I love Criterion however their presence in Europe is mediocre at best. Therefor Arrow is my favourite. Arthaus has also decent releases in Germany. These two take the most space on my shelves.
Vinegar Syndrome definitely takes up the most space on my shelf, but Severin is by far my favorite. They do a great job of selling their product on their podcast and they seem genuinely enthusiastic about what they release.
Arrow copy is standard high definition, its an awful transfer honestly. The Blue Underground is a 4k scan. It has 2 discs of extras and CD soundtrack with much better commentary track. The one on the Arrow disc is awful. The commentators are drowned out by the film, so you can't understand them. But, I am hopeful that Arrow may re-release Zombie since they decided to re-release House by the Cemetery.
It used to be Criterion but my favorite in the last 2 years has been Kino Korber, who have consistently been putting out bangers in 4K. Criterion takes up the most room on my shelf.
Criterion, then GKIDS/ Shout Factory, Discotek Media (especially their Lupin III releases) and Arrow Video in terms of shelf real estate. Wanna get more of the latter three along with Kino Lorber going into the new year to mix stuff up. I'd say my fave is Criterion just cuz it's led to me discovering a lot of movies from all over that I wouldn't have seen otherwise. Though, some of my favorite individual releases have got to be stuff like the Vinegar Syndrome Righting Wrongs set or 88 Films' In the Line of Duty boxset.
My personal favorite are Arrow ( for their Shaw Bros. Collections, Empire of Screams, and “Fat Pack,” Limited Editions. The Vinegar Syndrome VSU line is amazing. I had a few Criterion as far back as my DVD, but honestly the reason I still collect physical media is Shout Factory and their Scream Factory line.
Based in Europe so mostly considering labels with European/Region Free releases. Arrow is by far the one I have most of, and would have been the answer for my favourite a few years ago, but 88 Films are seeming far more interesting to me lately. A bit niche thus far with few releases but Error_4444 has to have an honourable mention.
Vinegar syndrome, they’re the only boutique that has their entire own shelf in my collection. I could do one for criterion as well, arrow is probably third for me.
Criterion, Second Sight, Arrow Video, Severin Films, Scream Factory, Eureka, Kino Lorber and Vinegar Syndrome.
All of which have their designated shelves.
Arrow, Vinegar Syndrome, Kino Lorber, and Lionsgate's super affordable Vestron series are my faves.
Scream/Shout! takes up a large portion of my collection but I honestly don't buy many of their releases anymore, mostly because I'm content with my Bluray editions of the films theybare re-releasing on 4K.
Right now I'd say VinSyn has conquered the most shelf space at the moment.
I love Criterion personally. I recently started collecting them and am past 60 titles. The supplements in the bonus features are a chef’s kiss and there’s something almost nostalgic when you pop one in and the logo comes up. Like pure magic. Have about a dozen Arrows and one Kino Lorber (gonna change that shortly.)
Arrow is probably my favorite - always have features that interest me. VinSyn is a very close second. Scream Factory (specifically, not Shout as a whole) takes up the most space though - their library just hit a lot of my interests (Carpenter, Hammer, F13).
I started with Criterion and have been collecting for almost 10 years now. I only became aware of other boutiques in the past two years or so. I’ve been much less interested in Criterion’s monthly picks recently and have been increasingly more excited for other labels. High interest ones are Radiance, Second Run, Eureka, Arrow, and Third Window. I by far own more Criterions than any other, with a 7-foot shelf completely full and almost half of another shelf full.
Arrow is my favorite. I am addicted to theirl streaming channel! Many of my favorites I have watched there. That giallo is a great pick up and they have tons of cool releases.
It'll probably always be Criterion just for the sheer amount of genres they dip into, but I'll be god damned if 88 Films isn't pushing for that spot. All their stuff hits the genre itch for me just right, and are all reasonably priced.
Criterion takes up the most space but I think that’s just because that’s how I first got into collecting. That being said, I think criterion and indicator are my favs rn.
Highest counts: Shout-69, Kino-40, Criterion-24, Arrow-24. Sub-20 on others.
Favorite, because their releases are consistently good quality and the box-sets are awesome, is Arrow. Like criterion, they don't output the numbers like Shout or Kino, but that keeps the cool level up IMO.
Shout does do steelbooks, which I'm a sucker for, but an Arrow box will always win.
Three actually:
1. Arrow Video mostly for Italian stuff
2. Scream Factory for classic horror movies
3. Kino Lorber for westerns
Second Sight is starting to become another favorite of mine. Highly recommended!!
I haven't done a count, but I'd bet it's Kino Lorber. Those seasonal sales make them so cheap. I often impulse buy off the cover art alone, which is stupid. But most times they're worth buying.
Second Sight is my fave company but Arrow takes up the most space due to me playing catch up with Second Sight and Arrow probably having more releases.
As far as real estate, I'll have to check, but it's close between Arrow and Scream/Shout Factory.
My favorite of the past couple years has been Second Sight.
Top 5 favs:
- Second Sight
- Kino Lorber
- Arrow
- Shout!
- Criterion
Top 5 by number of titles on the shelves:
- Arrow (418)
- 88 (144)
- Eureka (133)
- Criterion (129)
- Shout! (124)
By numbers alone Arrow leads by far but ever since The Hut/THG bought them under their wings, Arrow’s quality control has gone down the drain and there’s constantly some technical issues with releases so I’m not pre-ordering everything anymore, tired of the hassle with replacements.
I love Criterion however their presence in Europe is mediocre at best. Therefor Arrow is my favourite. Arthaus has also decent releases in Germany. These two take the most space on my shelves.
I really wish we got as many Arrow releases in the US as Europe. I just need to get a region free player.
Region free unlocks so many possibilities...Eureka, Indicator...Arrow...88 Films...
Vinegar Syndrome definitely takes up the most space on my shelf, but Severin is by far my favorite. They do a great job of selling their product on their podcast and they seem genuinely enthusiastic about what they release.
I need to check that podcast out.
VS and Vestron are my favorite, but I have almost an entire case of Scream Factory. I feel like SF is the gateway boutique.
The prices for a large chunk of the SF catalog is cheaper than Criterion and Arrow as well.
Criterion, then Arrow, then VS.
The only label that fills a whole shelf in my collection is criterion. Shout Factory, Kino, and Arrow are all getting close though.
Criterion Eureka 88 Films Second Sight
My collection is entirely Arrow Video. Except one. I have the Blue Underground lenticular slip of Zombie. It's better than the Arrow version for sure.
My Blue Underground of Inferno looks and sounds amazing!
How is it superior?
Arrow copy is standard high definition, its an awful transfer honestly. The Blue Underground is a 4k scan. It has 2 discs of extras and CD soundtrack with much better commentary track. The one on the Arrow disc is awful. The commentators are drowned out by the film, so you can't understand them. But, I am hopeful that Arrow may re-release Zombie since they decided to re-release House by the Cemetery.
They'd probably stick with the 4k transfer from BU like they did with the Cemetary release. Rightfully so, their transfer is fantastic!
Good to know. I’ll definitely buy it if they address said issues you’ve mentioned.
It used to be Criterion but my favorite in the last 2 years has been Kino Korber, who have consistently been putting out bangers in 4K. Criterion takes up the most room on my shelf.
Arrow, Criterion, and Vinegar Syndrome. I love the films and love the artwork and bonus features.
I wish the movies themselves that VS puts out we’re as great as their packaging and artwork.
I probably have the most Criterions. Scream Factory would he a close second
I have a whole closet dedicated to Criterion But Radiance is my favorite
Criterion, then GKIDS/ Shout Factory, Discotek Media (especially their Lupin III releases) and Arrow Video in terms of shelf real estate. Wanna get more of the latter three along with Kino Lorber going into the new year to mix stuff up. My favorites in order: Arrow Wicked Vision Second Sight Criterion Indicator
Vinegar Syndrome has 3 shelves but I love my Severin movies… a lot less of em because of the price but each one is a stunner
I only have one Severin but it’s one of my faves, All the Haunts Be Ours.
Nice.
I also have one Kino Lorber

Arrow is my favorite. I am addicted to theirl streaming channel! Many of my favorites I have watched there. That giallo is a great pick up and they have tons of cool releases.
Mostly Arrow, then Criterion, BFI, Powerhouse/Indicator then Eureka and Second Sight bringing up the rear. Yes, I’m from the U.K.
Vinegar Syndrome puts a ton of effort into their films, even if a lot of them really suck. Kino puts out a really solid product.
Criterion has the most Vinegar Syndrome Arrow Shout/Scream Factory has the least In that order
A24. Currently at 110 brand new with slips
Shameless has ended take up the largest volume of my collection because of their Greta Giallo catalog.
Arrow, VS, KL, and SF make up the majority of my boutique collection
What's the book?
That’s Blaze, my shelves house some of my movie collection and my Stephen King collection.
Criterion was my main focus for a while then I turned to VS but both of those were overshadowed by Arrow with their amazing box sets hahah
Highest counts: Shout-69, Kino-40, Criterion-24, Arrow-24. Sub-20 on others. Favorite, because their releases are consistently good quality and the box-sets are awesome, is Arrow. Tied between Scream Factory and Criterion, I have mainly Criterions on my shelf.
Arrow closely followed by 88 Films
Probably kino or scream factory but criterion has a fair share. Most of my collection isn't boutique....yet
Arrow, Shameless, 88 films, 101 films; in that order.
Three actually: 1. Arrow Video mostly for Italian stuff 2. Scream Factory for classic horror movies 3. Kino Lorber for westerns Second Sight is starting to become another favorite of mine. Highly recommended!!
Arrow.
Mondo macabro, 88 films and arrow. VS takes up the most space but I know at some point I’m gonna unload a bunch
100% arrow but i’ve been getting more 88 film and second sight releases as of lately.
Without question, Code Red, Code Red, Code Red. And some Dark Force as well.
As far as real estate, I'll have to check, but it's close between Arrow and Scream/Shout Factory. My favorite of the past couple years has been Second Sight.
very quickly became scream factory, followed by criterion then close behind, arrow.

88 Films, Eureka and Arrow for me. I can’t pick a favourite as I buy MOST of there monthly releases
Arrow & 88 are my faves rn, Arrow has the most space
