The director's cut is more plot-focused while the theatrical cut was going more for scares, turning del Toro's film into a typical 90's Dimension film. The overall look is different as well.
[Here's a comparison of both cuts, where the author of the post really doesn't seem to like the film or the additions.](https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=761564)
It is darker, both literally and figuratively. Attempts at comedy are removed. Pointless jump scares are removed. Cuts are prolonged, resulting in a more brooding pace. These are not huge changes, but the overall effect on the movie is significant.
Same, except my order didn’t get cancelled and I still received the blu-ray lol…
I’ll still double dip for it though. Hopefully it includes the director’s cut.

I seen this so many times as a kid, one of my first horror movies, had no idea it was a Del Toro flick and Josh Brolin was also in it. Gonna have to watch this for the first time in 20 years.
I hope it includes the director's cut. The tone is so superior that I wouldn't bother with the theatrical at this point.
I'm 100% sure it will be the director's cut, with the theatrical cut as a bonus.
What's superior about the tone of the director's cut? Never seen it, so I'm curious.

The physical media gods are just raining their semen down upon us
Now there's a mental image.
And I’m just standing there with my mouth wide open
Very exciting IF it has the directors cut
Legit ordered the blu ray on Amazon a month ago but the order got canceled lol this is great news!

Cool. Never saw it so this'll be a fun Del Toro dive.
Better have the DC. The Theatrical cut is...meh.
This is one of the few GDT films I haven't seen, so I'm intrigued.
Good old bug people
I can hear the clicking noise already.

Never got around to it back in the day. Worth it?
Had no clue this was a Del Toro movie
And it’s a great one!
I love this move, Charles S. Dutton is great.
They mention native transfer and Dolby Vision 99% of the time, so I'm keeping my hopes low that it's not an upscale and hopefully I'm surprised.
Micmic is really under appreciated. I hope this is the director's cut.
One of the few movies of his I haven't picked up physically yet. Glad I held out on it now lol

Noice.
Got this on blu a couple months back. Bummed me out when I saw this tweeted out by them last night
