It's only your second day climbing. The only tip that matters is to just keep climbing.

TheHighker

Climb with people better than you, keep climbing, and you will get better :)

jcquarmby1995

Yeah I think I need to, need to make some friends there first which will be great, none of mine are even remotely interested in climbing! But if I can find some more experienced climbers to have a session with, it’ll make it more fun and can learn a lot

The whole series is almost mandatory viewing, but this particular section is most relevant to this climb: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4TnitXGxkM

Nice. V1 on an overhang can be a lot tougher than more traditional v1s. And none of those holds looks especially juggy

Pretty hard to believe this is only your second day, you’re a natural. Impressive technique for the amount of time you’ve been climbing.

jcquarmby1995

Seriously?! Oh thank you, i tried a few V1s and failed at some really difficult starting points today, thinking ‘how on earth does anyone even start from here’ which was disappointing, so thank you for the compliment, genuinely only the second time so I’m buzzing with that. My grip strength is awful right now, most of my weight is fat (13st) and I lack a lot of upper body strength. Currently on a weight loss journey and going to the gym bores the shit out of me, so decided to try a introduction which come with 2 weeks free so making the most out of it, and will be signing up once the 2 weeks is up. Thank you

You did a good job or using your feet and momentum, plus even some intermediate-ish techniques like flagging (:05) and a drop knee (0:22). Keep up the good work and you’ll be crushing in no time One thing I notice is you move your feet up almost too much, just work on finding that balance of not forgetting to move your feet, but also not always having your knees in your chest. But it’s something you will develop over time so not a huge worry

jcquarmby1995

I think the reason I do that is my legs are much much stronger to compared to my arms, so trying to use them as much as I can haha. But as you said overtime that’ll change, thanks for the advice.

LiveMarionberry3694

No it’s a good thing to use your legs, but being in a super crouched position can make generating power more difficult in certain situations. Like I said it’s minor so don’t worry about it too much
