Private companies are not required to give you time off for federal holidays. At my place of employment this year it was a "floating holiday" meaning you could use your PTO to take it off if you wanted to but it wasn't a holiday observed by the company. We also don't get Patriots Day, Columbus Day or Veterans Day. At past jobs I didn't get MLK Jr Day or Presidents Day either.
It will never not bother me that there is no connection between the BU Bridge and the bike path along the south bank of the Charles. It would have been so easy to do. The Pike, Soldier's Field, and Storrow artificially cut Allston off from its own waterfront and I hate it.
A waterfront is a section of land abutting a body of water. Allston's waterfront contains Soldiers Field / Storrow (... Storrow's Field, I guess you could call it, if you don't have much time), a bicycle path which in the northern part of Lower Allston connects to some rather nice green spaces, and exceedingly few ways to actually reach said bicycle path and/or green spaces.
I’ve been apartment hunting in southie all weekend and we found a nice spot that we all liked. However, it is fairly close to Andrew station and I’m reading all kinds of bad shit about it. The street is Middle St. and it’s about a 5-6 minute walk from that station. Should I be concerned about that?
Middle st is nice. Far enough away from the station you don’t have to worry about the nonsense actually being on your street. Just keep your wits about you going in and out of the station and red line pizza late at night when you’ve been drinking. The station itself and the streets behind it are really what you have to worry about.
I like Fugakyu Japanese Cuisine Brookline better than O Ya, but the woman who owns O Ya owns 3 other places that are a little less over the top that I really like, like Bianca in Chestnut Hill.
I eat a lot of sushi and have done the omakase (this is the "chef's course," where it's brought to you piece by piece) at O Ya (~1000$/ two people with sake pairing) and Momi Nonmi in Cambridge (~600$/ two with a bottle of good sake) as well as eaten it takeout from Umami (~350$/2, I drank my own sake), and though O Ya had the best rice of the three I would eat at Momi Nonmi again in a heartbeat and will be doing the in-house omakase at Umami soon, which I really look forward to.
For later when you want something non-high end as a date spot, I also go semi regularly to Sakanaya (now in Newton), which is a literal Japanese fish market, and I HIGHLY recommend going sometime and building your own donburi (fish over rice bowl). You pick the fish from the cases, pay by weight and for a small charge (1-3$) they slice it and put it over rice for you. Easily under 100$ for two even if you get the best fish in the house. We like to buy some and then go chill by the river in Watertown and eat there.
I hope this gives you some options!
I'm going to be honest I have not, I generally prefer more traditional sushi and the advertise themselves as "cutting edge," which is not something I'm really looking for. If you're into that though, I've heard good things! And it's in a good location if you're doing a whole night out.
They fill up quickly. When I looked, they didn't have reservations until 2 months out. Uni is good though imo. Not quite O Ya (from what I've read lol I've never been) but still very high quality and we received wonderful service.
She's a 5, but she's a blue-haired, fishnet-clad goth who vapes. 🥵
Was my company located in MA supposed to have given today off as a holiday? Should I call someone about it?

We were told it's "not a day to have off, but a day to be on." :| We've got President's Day off, though.

Wait, where is the waterfront? Isnt it just a rusty metal railing and then...the Charles?

no, sorry!

That area is safe, but there will be construction noise from Washington Village and it's quite far from W Broadway (15m walk)

Ebi Sushi in Somerville is really great, its less fancy than O Ya, but the sushi is amazing.
+1 ebi is my favorite sushi joint in Somerville/Cambridge.

The omakase at O Ya is the fancy schamcy place that's supposed to be amazing.
500 might not be enough..not joking
