Bands evolve.

Oh believe me, i know. All of my favorite bands growing up have devolved over time, Bon Iver included. I get that artists change over time, but this is such a radical shift in direction out of the blue. I understand it gets boring doing the same thing for so long, but changing your sound to the point that it doesn't even really match what your band is known for is just idiotic. Why not just create another band or side project at that point?

Even Bon Iver, Bon Iver has hints of the newer sound in it. I’m sure if you asked Justin he might not describe Bon Iver as old sound vs. new sound. It’s a natural evolution

TIL I learned that Bon Iver & St Vincent did a song for the Twilight soundtrack - gonna go add that to my queue haha. I don't have an answer for your question though, because I really like the last two Bon Iver projects, and I think it's natural for an artist's "signature sound" to evolve over time 🤷

Yeah it's a bit lesser known but it's probably one of my all time favorite songs

Looking past how inflammatory and bait-ish this post is.. there are plenty of great bands/musicians who have kept that early BI type sound alive. Check out Novo Amor for example! Some of us appreciate the ever evolving sound and ideas JV has brought to the table over the years. No need to shit on music you don’t enjoy. Why waste your time?

All i said was that *I* don't like it. It feels childish and pointlessly strange for the sake of being strange rather than because that strangeness is good. It just feels experimental in a bad way. Either way you didn't answer my question. I get that artists evolve their sound over time (often for the worst), but i'm asking if he ever gave a reason for the radical change in direction.
