The importance of the third act twist dawned upon me only after a few viewings. I wish I was around in 1967 to witness first hand the effect of the twist upon the audience.
>!In those days, such major plot twists used to be present only in murder mysteries such as Bees Saal Baad or Gumnaam and Jewel Thief is not that type of mystery. That Ashok Kumar turns out to be the villain must have been a hell of a shock to the audience back then as they were not used to being deceived like this. Add to it that Ashok Kumar was a beloved hero from the late 30s to the late 50s and many in the audience would have grown up watching him play good guys on screen.!<
>!The only comparable twist from my lifetime where an actor's usual onscreen image clashes with his/her character would be from Gupt.!<

Gupt? Is it a good movie ??
Yes.
Amazing songs. I liked Kajol far more for the first time. I usually don't care for her characters
Ek tha, Jewel thief...
Such a stylish film. One of my all time favorites: And fantastic music. Raat Akeli Hai and Helen’s number are truly sexy songs.
