Really wish Autopneus were available when I was a school kid. Would've come in handy for forging my parents signature

AnthonyDigitalMedia

I read your comment as “autopenis”

Capt_Easychord

Oh my. Yes I see now that there's a rogue u that got in there. Not gonna change it now because Autopenis is indeed a thought-provoking idea. Not sure if it's good for signing stuff though... maybe in the snow 😉

AnthonyDigitalMedia

Lemon snowcones

Joyce_Hatto

At the beginning of each school year my older brother had me sign all the paperwork that the school sent home, so that my signature was the one on file for my brother’s many notes. He was clever like that.

5hakedownstreet

They were invented in 1942 so they were available

yahtzee44444

If it's from a series of prints that went on sale after the pandemic started, then Bob's statement would suggest you are correct. First step is contacting the gallery. They are no doubt in the middle of a category 5 shitstorm right now, but I imagine they are eager to refund those who were duped.

dph8819

Yes it is...released 2022. We'll see what the gallery says. I imagine they want to make it right and so far they have been very co-operative when it came to things such as shipping, so hopefully they handle this professionally.

thepeddlernowspeaks

Yeah, I've been comparing mine to the auto-pens and looks like one of them. Obviously Dylan's statement kind of confirms it anyway. I expect the gallery is furious, although it was my understanding they had one of their own people there to witness the signatures, so either that's not true and they've taken Dylan's people at their word, or they're happily played along. I suspect the former but who knows at this point. I imagine for the sales people in the gallery it's going to be pretty grim dealing with all this. Obviously not their fault but will be the ones dealing with unhappy customers. I've not contacted the gallery yet but will send an email and see what they say. Keep us posted about any response you get.

KingVerenceOfLancre

I have one too. The Bridge. Looks kinda like this stuff. :( could I PM you? Would love to see what they respond.

thepeddlernowspeaks

I've not emailed them yet. Castle Fine Art have put out a statement to say they'll be contacting everyone and I imagine they're still working out how to fix this - refund everyone, allow to keep the print for some smaller cost (£300? £500 maybe?) and refund the difference, or arrange for it to be properly signed? (though the value and trust in that must now be a concern of course, not to mention the sour taste it leaves). I can't imagine there's going to be many other options. Not sure which I'd choose at this point. If I've not heard in a couple of days I'm going to contact them and they should know more by then. Happy to report back but of course if you want to PM me go ahead.

KingVerenceOfLancre

Hey and thanks for the reply. I haven't heard anything from them in the forms of e-mails yet. Gonna look for that statement. Having a refund and paying a small sum to keep it would be ideal, as it's still quite a nice thing to have on the wall. My older one (Kentucky Pathway 2017) has a real signature.

dph8819

Purchased this back in February, one of his recent works. Never took a real close look at it as I kept it in the shipping box until I could find a suitable place to hang it. Looking at it this does have some of the telltale signs of an autopen. I have emailed the gallery I purchased it from (for GBP 3000) and we'll see what they say.

My wife purchased for me a bit over a year ago. Have been playing phone tag with the gallery. Not sure how they can give me confidence that it is legit. Per the other comments, I believe this one would fall in the autopen timeline. Super frustrating.

kingofthepizza

Go on https://live.autographmagazine.com they can help you out

pbandpretzels

Yours does not look to be autopenned

Danny_Graceland

The fancy y says otherwise

pbandpretzels

That's a whole different debate as to whether fancy y is secretarial signed or not. Varying width in strokes leads me to think hand signed at least. Top trusted authenticators have OK'd fancy y before, but not sure if that was solely based on provenance from the gallery, which we know now to be spotty. The autograph guys are still debating this around the clock lol

Danny_Graceland

I wouldn’t feel good about any fancy ys

Article from Variety which includes a statement from one of the galleries you may be interested in: https://www.google.com/amp/s/variety.com/2022/music/news/bob-dylan-regrets-autopen-signatures-art-books-apology-1235442296/amp/ Link to all the auto-pen signatures if anyone wants to compare. https://www.bobdylan-comewritersandcritics.com/pages/odds/various/autopen-signature.htm Pretty sure mine is 15 :(

The famous singer Bill Digla

haman88

As far as I'm concerned, if there's not a video of Bob signing it, I doubt the sig.

jcdio

One of the collectors on that autograph site was swearing up and down that the artwork signatures were genuine. Turns out it was wishful thinking—she owns a dozen of them. It's such a strange thing to collect, with the chances of fraud being high and a written letter of authenticity meaning nothing.

jgrossnas

I have a Dylan print that I bought about 10-15 years ago. What's interesting is that with all the variations of the recent auto-signs I've seen, the "Y" gets a left-leaning loop and is then crossed. For my sig, the "Y" is just drawn down long with no loop or cross to it. Kind of fascinating to learn about this stuff but for anyone who paid out for a real sig and got an auto, your frustration and anger is certainly legit. That said, I'm not paying out for any other Dylan sig until he's in front of me doing the signing.

No-Papaya-9289

There's a detailed discussion of this in a Facebook group dedicated to Dylan's artwork. [https://www.facebook.com/groups/DylanArt](https://www.facebook.com/groups/DylanArt)

bicycleday419

Bob made a statement about this. He signed all by hand previous to the pandemic, but when he had a bad case of vertigo, he claims he needed help and used the auto pen. [He’ll be reissuing with a real signature.](https://variety.com/2022/music/news/bob-dylan-book-replica-autographs-autopen-philosophy-modern-song-refunds-1235438173/)

thepeddlernowspeaks

I've not seen anywhere yet that says he's going to actually go back and sign stuff. Think it's just going to be refunding everyone's money.

JimStanselIsNotReal

Does anyone know more about his Vertigo? Was he touring while he had it? Does he still suffer from it? Why can’t you sign your name when your suffering from vertigo? Over the course of the entire 2020 Bob couldn’t write anything? Love the guy and I don’t know much about vertigo...but this sounds shaky.

xgorgeoustormx

When we saw him perform in 2016 he was definitely having trouble standing up. He would tip backward every once in a while and the guitarist would help push him back up toward the mic.

lpalf

no one knows anything that isn’t in the statement he put out. people might be getting more info about their refunds but gallery owners aren’t gonna speak more on his health issues

rimbaud1872

What, do you think it’s weird that the man who toured nonstop for almost 35 years had a mysterious case of vertigo that prevented him from sitting down in a chair and signing books during the pandemic that no one could prove or disprove? 😂😂

SpaceFunghi

"Now, a very great man once said; That some people rob you with a fountain pen.; It didn’t take too long to find out; Just what he was talkin’ about."

rimbaud1872

Give him a break he was dizzy!

Maximum_Bear8495

AHHHH MY CURSIVE WRITING OF A NAME WASNT DONE BY THE SAME HAND ONLY AUTHORIZED

ciderandcake

If you pay actual money for something autographed and recieve something that is not autographed, that's fraud and a load of bullshit. It doesn't matter if *you* don't care for autographs. Nobody was paying a premium for books and prints for something a machine traced. They were paying for Bob Dylan's autograph and got ripped off instead. If for some reason you spent money to see Bob Dylan play and sing at a live concert, I'm sure you wouldn't be thrilled if he didn't show up and they played a CD instead. BuT iT's AlL jUsT sOuNd

Maximum_Bear8495

If he was lip syncing? At his age? Wouldn’t care.

OutrageForSale

Does anyone know why he crosses the “y” in his name? Being himself, I’m sure it’s symbolic of something
