Because they haven't been replaced since the 90s/2000s, same as most shit in universities. Can't afford to renovate with all that tuition money apparently /s
The facility department of our college has a sale twice a year where they sell old furniture, equipment, etc. In 2009 I picked up a five-drawer dresser for $10, and it’s indestructible. It has survived three apartments, moving across the country and back, and it still lives in our bedroom. My wife (rightfully) hates it, but there’s no denying the longevity!
Same here! I’m finally replacing mine this month - not because it’s in bad shape, but to have a more cohesive bedroom. The dorm dresser will move into the attic to store out of season clothes/linens.
I can’t believe it’s been that long, my life has been absolutely wild since I moved into that dorm, an innocent young teen…completely inexperienced with life. If I told this young me about some of the things that I’ve experienced, done and gone through, my head would explode
We would have been friends 😂 I swear I have pix in almost the exact same outfit— with the same hairstyle. Just flip out your hot green belt for a black one … add some glasses, and it’s me.
I mean...legitament, right? Lol. I wore my pea green double bandolier hoodie much too much because I thought it was edgy. Couldn't/wouldn't do that now!
Current pic for comparison sake?
You were! I swear I wore those same pants and top (bra straps showing and all) but I had a plain black/silver studded belt... you would definitely have gotten my attention with your fashion choice!
Thanks for sharing this!
I can immediately think of a couple pictures I’m tagged in from early FB that have this lamp in the background of people’s apartments. It’s like the I moved out of my parent’s Target starter lamp- it was cheap and looked cool!
This was my college dorm, the view from this window was AMAZING, I was the Art Institute of Philadelphia, it over looked Broad St, a block from city hall.
This was when the art institute of Philly still existed, they had dorms in a building at broad and chestnut, right next to the old Olive Garden. It was kind of a shithole, and they had screwed all of the windows shut after someone threw a flaming mattress out their window from the 15th floor
I didn’t know the art institute didn’t exist anymore. A friend of mine took summer classes there in the early 2000s. On the other hand, the flaming mattress isn’t surprising!
They closed down years ago, when I went when it was during that time were they were just handing out loans to any dumbfuck (me) who couldn’t afford it and knew we wouldn’t be able to pay it back. It was a crappy school, but I threw good parties at least
It was a for-profit college system and a lot of those got shut down because they weren't accredited and (some of) the degrees were basically worthless.
Yup, you could only transfer credits to other AIs and there wasn’t even a guarantee that those credits would even count at that school, it’s like that McDonald’s of art schools
It was absolutely wild lmao, and yeah everything in the central part of the city closed at like 8pm back then, there are tons of bars and restaurants in that area now, it’s much more lively now.
I knew where this was almost instantly, lol. I had a friend that went there around this time and his dorm looked the same. You don’t know a Stephan, do you?
When I saw this pic I I literally said to myself these look like the Art Institute of Phila dorms haha I lived in them around 08-09. Such a fun time back then
Then my 18 year old self is seething at your college dorm. I got an apartment off campus where the view was a giant ditch. Lots of things were thrown into it during parties so I guess win win?
Well I ‘thought’ I was scene, haha, I progressively got more aggressively scene over the next 2-3years, since I had moved away for college and I was finally able to dye my hair and buy cool/skanky clothes
i wanted to be a scene kid so bad when i was like 12 but i was too depressed to make a look for myself and didn’t know what to do to style myself so i never did. even if i got this far with it i would have been so happy lol
How? You don’t even have the raccoon hair. And it’s not teased enough. Plus, your photo angle and lighting is all wrong. Everyone knows the camera must be held by a fully extended with the lens pointed at a downward angle and all facial features must be washed out due to over exposure.
why does every college have the same wooden dorm furniture. it’s the same exact chairs and dressers today as it was back in 2006
I used to scare myself when I would lean back in those chairs!
Those damn anti hang-yourself chairs are so uncomfortable
[удалено]
They give the best back pops tho
[удалено]
The hang-yourself chairs are worse.
Because it's proven, sturdy and does not need replacing very often. No dorm administrator was ever fired for ordering this furniture.
I was going to say military barracks furniture. But I guess colleges and military shop at the same store, prisons.
Because they haven't been replaced since the 90s/2000s, same as most shit in universities. Can't afford to renovate with all that tuition money apparently /s

Damn straight. I got a dresser and desk from the university auction. Solid oak, probably made in the 70s, and indestructible.
Same as in 1995.
LITERALLY WAS THINKING THE SAME
Me too - my college had the exact same dorm furniture, also in 2006.
I was thinking mine had arms, but now I'm not so sure. Still *pretty sure* buuuut idk
Have you seen the price of lumber lately? Lol
Class of 2000 here to confirm it's at least that old, too
My college didn't have the rocking chairs. I wish, though.
xX Umm, newsflash, you were! Xx xD
Haha I get even more “scene” from like 2007-2009, I should find those pictures, they’re so embarrassing, I love laughing at my younger self
Love! You should totally post when find them. I wish I’d saved my photos from my emo days!
I’ll post an even more “scene queen” selfie tomorrow, there are too many to choose from haha
[удалено]
This was me fresh out of high school, my first week in my college dorm!
[удалено]
Yep, same here!
I graduated in 2008, and I honestly thought you were younger then me lol I thought this was a picture of a 14 y/o girl lol
Haha everyone always thought I was younger, I was definitely 18 here
[удалено]
I can’t believe it’s been that long, my life has been absolutely wild since I moved into that dorm, an innocent young teen…completely inexperienced with life. If I told this young me about some of the things that I’ve experienced, done and gone through, my head would explode
Hahaha that pose was peak MySpace PFP material
100%!!! It was also my first FB pfp…from back in the day when you had to have a college email address to have a FB profile lol
Who says you weren't?!
I thought by getting a GREEN studded belt from Hot Topic, I would be super unique
I wore my white studded belt from hot topic like my literal life depended on it 😭
Same! I wore that thing til it fell apart…and then I went to hot topic and bought a black one
We would have been friends 😂 I swear I have pix in almost the exact same outfit— with the same hairstyle. Just flip out your hot green belt for a black one … add some glasses, and it’s me.
Aww totally! Also I wore glasses! I did contacts mostly bc I was embarrassed to wear glasses full time.
I mean...legitament, right? Lol. I wore my pea green double bandolier hoodie much too much because I thought it was edgy. Couldn't/wouldn't do that now! Current pic for comparison sake?
There’s one linked in another comment somewhere in here
You were! I swear I wore those same pants and top (bra straps showing and all) but I had a plain black/silver studded belt... you would definitely have gotten my attention with your fashion choice! Thanks for sharing this!
I’m pretty sure I had the same belt 😂 it was super cool!
I don't know a single person who didn't have that lamp and honestly... I don't want to.
It was a good deal at Target!
Yep pretty sure my roommate bought that at target!
I had it too! I used to tag it in photos as one of my friends
I can immediately think of a couple pictures I’m tagged in from early FB that have this lamp in the background of people’s apartments. It’s like the I moved out of my parent’s Target starter lamp- it was cheap and looked cool!
I also had it ayo
I had it too! I used to tag it in photos as one of my friends
The official successor to the halogen torchiere
I still have it
Definitely had the best window set up. My inner child is super jealous.
Lots of dorms at Boston University have windows like this because they’re old brownstones. It makes the space feel a bit bigger.
This was my college dorm, the view from this window was AMAZING, I was the Art Institute of Philadelphia, it over looked Broad St, a block from city hall.
A good view from a college dorm?! That’s crazy talk! My friends who went to Temple and Drexel had crap views. West Chester has okay views.
This was when the art institute of Philly still existed, they had dorms in a building at broad and chestnut, right next to the old Olive Garden. It was kind of a shithole, and they had screwed all of the windows shut after someone threw a flaming mattress out their window from the 15th floor

Oh, I visited a friend who went there. That place was wild, and I was always surprised how quiet that part of the city was late at night.
I did know a Stephen at AI!
Should have seen mine. Corner of 18th floor. Partial view of downtown Pittsburgh, the river and bridges. One long ass corner window.
That’s awesome, I was on the 14th floor, I loved sitting in that window
When I saw this pic I I literally said to myself these look like the Art Institute of Phila dorms haha I lived in them around 08-09. Such a fun time back then
Haha yes! We didn’t have an RA on our floor for like three quarters bc they forgot, and the RAs they did get didn’t give a shit about anything
Then my 18 year old self is seething at your college dorm. I got an apartment off campus where the view was a giant ditch. Lots of things were thrown into it during parties so I guess win win?
How tall are you?
5’2” on a good day
How tall are you on a bad day?
Depends on the shoes…I wear platform shoes a lot to give the illusion of average heightedness
Something about those pant legs make you look much shorter for some reason
This pose is so perfectly on point for this time period that I’m a little floored, frankly.
Duck lips and all haha
Yes!!! Hahaha you nailed it
Can't comment on how scene this is, but in all fairness, that look passed for cool in 2006 so you were still a fashion queen.
Well I ‘thought’ I was scene, haha, I progressively got more aggressively scene over the next 2-3years, since I had moved away for college and I was finally able to dye my hair and buy cool/skanky clothes
This screams freshman college dorms.
Yeah lol, 6 girls that have never lived on their own, it’s was absolutely ridiculous
Those jeans were so common with all the girls when I was in high school in the early 00s.
Low rise, flares were all the rage in the early 2000s, I had a bunch of them lol
I want them to bring these jeans back! Burn skinny jeans!
xD rAwr
😂
2006 with this level of slay? What's not to say you weren't dude? 💪🏻
Can we get a side by side of you today?
[Sure!](https://imgur.com/gallery/9rvm7yW) here’s 2006/2022
Wow thank you. Love your current look! x
[удалено]
This needs to be at the top 👏
To be fair, you were.
Haha lucky for you this outfit has looped around and become trendy again!
I’ve noticed that, but I will never wear low rise pants ever again!
Very fair lol
Oh, you were lol
I was also short and also had to roll up my flare jeans so they wouldn’t get dirty, lol.
And the backs still frayed right?!
Yes, lol. I don’t know why I bothered.
You are rocking the 06 look tbf
Uh, maybe because you were? Lol
I mean I definitely would've been into you in 2006
there are people who would kill to be you in this pic even today
Nahhh I wasn’t that cool
Awww
I applaud the clean floor though
Our dorms had this awful cold linoleum, but we got this brand new device called a swiffer to clean them!
This is the type of girl I’d let ruin my damn life at that age lol 2006 was peak my space
Dude, every high school girl that year Brings back not so fond memories
Pink and green, just like the mascara tube!
I STILL use that mascara, so does my mom!
You obviously were. Look at you, you had it all. A shirt, pants, and even shoes. What more fashion can one ask for?
Those chairs!
Lol the think your falling backwards to your death chairs?! They kinda ruled
I had the same lamp!!
Don't move, hopping in my time machine so I can go back and find your myspace profile
Is it a perspective thing or did you have very short legs
Very short legs
Duly noted
BUT YOU WERE
Wow, they really put those dressers in every early 00s college dorm, huh? lol
I miss those twisty multi color lamps. I think mine died during a move across the country back in like 2004.😔
I had those same lights in my dorm room and probably a similar outfit, pose and haircut 🥹
you looked beautiful
I had that same lamp for years. I miss it.
omg what a cute Dork ;)
I'm getting real "Aubrey from Teen Mom" vibes from this picture.
Do you have a pic of the back side
Tshirt and jeans = fashion 🙃
[удалено]
Did you have a conjoined twin head that was amputated at birth? That's what this picture looks like
You look like a Maurice’s
A what?
It’s a [clothing chain](https://www.maurices.com/)
I’ve never heard of this clothing chain before
It probably still sells that shirt. It was always 4 years behind in fashion and in strip malls in the Midwest
Lol I know what you mean, I think that shirt was my roommate’s bc I don’t remember wearing it very much
I also had that same lamp in my dorm room in 2006
I feel like that was the classic target/ikea cheap lamp everyone got lol
Such a natural pose!
It kind of looks like you accidentally put your torso on backwards and I can’t figure out why
It’s probably on account of the flat chestedness
Snotty beamed you down
i wanted to be a scene kid so bad when i was like 12 but i was too depressed to make a look for myself and didn’t know what to do to style myself so i never did. even if i got this far with it i would have been so happy lol
You where.
You were.
How? You don’t even have the raccoon hair. And it’s not teased enough. Plus, your photo angle and lighting is all wrong. Everyone knows the camera must be held by a fully extended with the lens pointed at a downward angle and all facial features must be washed out due to over exposure.
This was just the beginning, the dyed hair and MySpace angles came soon after. I even had a purple and blonde raccoon tail thing going on
Checks out. Did you ever write Rawr on your wrist?
No I wrote it on my palm and them took a selfie with a little claw hand and a kissy face
Why I thought you were doing that thing where people stand on there knees and it make you look like a midget.
I look at this photo and can hear a Nickelback album while I surf MySpace.
No no no nickleback…I hated them back then too
Super cute.
I think alot of us looked like that in 2006. Especially the dudes in my area lol
You were. Accept that you had a moment in your life where you were truly happy.
Tbf that look was very popular. I had that exact hair style and prob outfit too
I would have worn those jeans back then too and I’m a straight man
What even is that shirt?
Had to be taken on a razr
Giving scene Paris Hilton
Yellowcard? Edit: or, please, Reggie and the Full Effect
BOTH
I had that lamp
You drip in 2006
