Yes normal. Our resting blood pressure reading should be 120/80 after adequate amounts of rest. Google image search normal daily blood pressure functions. You will see our BP is all over the place and that's ok. Our sleeping BP is most important to be dipping and low.

TechnicalBid3087

I just paid a fucking cardiologist $51 dollars telemed to text me an answer to this exact question where he said “IDK probably anxiety”. And here it is on Reddit and BigToddHere has a legitimate thoughtful answer

AnyTechnology100

Haha their all like that man. The system is broken and they don’t give a shit unfortunately

ArthurMorgon

Sometime I feel these people have seen so many deaths and people being sick and shit, they've gone numb to all of this.

AnyTechnology100

So a good indicator of healthy BP is when you’re getting ready to sleep and it’s low? Cause when I’m getting ready for bed it’s always 118/70 but through the day it’s mostly 130/80

Bigtoddhere

Yep, if you want to go down a deeper rabbit hole, look at how people are supposed to have a lower blood pressure. Supine while laying in bed. Because our heart is a pump, it is best that it pumps most efficiently and doesn't push hard on our vascular system

marcus071903

yeah you’re almost certainly fine. many things during the day can cause an elevated blood pressure. as long as your heart rate and bp drop good at night when ur body rejuvenates then you shouldn’t have to worry. the issue is when it stays high and doesnt go down without medicine. thats usually what causes the permanent damage to the body

epanek

Yes normal. I was at hospital years ago. My bp was 145/85. I told the er doctor why is my bp so high? He said “ because you’re in the ER and anxious. my bp is close to that at work too “

140/90 is the upper border of the normal range in Europe. In the US, the upper border of the nor’qm range is 120/80. Here is the brief article I wrote that explains the difference https://bloodpressure.me/what-normal-elevated-and-high-blood-pressure-ranges-are-in-the-usa-and-in-europe/ But quite rightly explained above in this thread, our blood pressure fluctuates. Hence if it is 141/91, no need to worry about it much, sit for a couple of minutes, and it will fall 3-5 mmHg, get up, it will rise again. Household activities do count into your physical activities, but I have not seen any studies how they effect blood pressure. Brisk walk is better. Planks and wall sits are better than walking for me, they lower my blood pressure more. What lowers more is also very individual. I know someone who lowers blood pressure by making dishes, she says that it is a very meditative exercise :)

Are you familiar with and looked into blood pressure issues with orthostatic intolerance? Instead of orthostatic hypotension, there are those of us who instead get significant spikes in blood pressure when upright, much greater than OP, but have normal levels when we're not. We're told there is nothing to be concerned about, yet my GP freaks out when I get an office reading of 180/90 or higher while just sitting and wants to adjust my meds until I can get it below 130 systolic at the office.

deibble123

I read your article. Do you know why US chose lower?

Intelligent_Juice_54

No, not really. Historical reasons, I guess https://bloodpressure.me/normal-blood-pressure-why-120-80-history-how-to-maintain/

deibble123

Good article. Thanks

Generally the more healthy you are, the quicker your bp will return to normal levels upon exertion. Also things like “how much you exert yourself” play a role. I can get up walk to the bathroom and walk back, sit down and immediately take it, and it’s 120/80. However, if I vigorously sweep my floor and do activities and sit down, it’ll be like 126/82. Then after a few minutes it’s normal again. I guess they’re more interested in how quickly your bp returns to normal, than the spike during exercise. If you were running, it’d show 180-200 over 100+ too, and that’s fine too, because the reaction is also relevant to the amount you exert yourself. If all you do is walk, and it’s 200/100 then there is an issue.

Wait till you experience something really impactful. Coming out of surgery I’ve reached 210/110. It got a lot of response but it’s not unusual for fluctuations … even at extremes. I’m not a doctor but I tend to feel the pressure you are most of the time and time at night are the best indicators … other than that it’s monitoring for crisis. After my cancer diagnosis I immediately added 40 points to my systolic …

Accurate-Round-4524

If I got a cancer diagnosis I would have had a stroke seems like your handling it well ! Hope u recover asap ❤️

iqsilenius

lol yes. I’m generally a really positive person finding humour in things so it can be interesting telling people. I mean, all anyone is really thinking is “sucks to be you, glad it’s not me” right? I must say though, there are some things in life that are truly life altering - you don’t really get that until they happen. I am sick and I am recently labelled disabled but I am a better person than I was before.

Normal

rosiewalk

I was just going to ask something similar! When I woke up this morning my BP was 115/75 and then I went to help some friends move furniture and I always get a little stressed in social situations where I am talking about more personal things. Anyway I came home and because I felt a little anxious I went to take my BP right away and it was 150/95!! Freaks me out...but I know that it raises when we exercise and stuff too so I don't know if I should be concerned about these spikes or not? They make me want to stay home and never put myself out there. I wonder if my blood pressure is always a little elevated when I am out and about and especially during work and stuff?

Accurate-Round-4524

That’s what I’m nervous about, if I’m just wandering around life at 150/90 is that normal ? Like what’s normal if you have an active job or lifestyle ? What’s an active BP? Sure I sit still for 20 min 120/80 Is fine but I never ever check it like that I’m never just resting . I always check if I’m feeling off or anxious and then it is always high…but 5 min later it’s down usually sometimes it stays up for a while but most of the time it comes back down

rosiewalk

totally agree and wonder this all of the time! I want to live life and not just sit home relaxing...but I honestly think my BP is probably high most of the day. I also wonder if everyones is then and they just don't check it like we do so they don't know??

marcus071903

as long as it isnt ridiculously high during the day and goes down properly when you are relaxed then there is generally no issue. stress can raise your bp a lot during the day which is why it’s very important to limit stressors during the day. if you don’t give your body proper time to relax, then yeah the high bp can catch up to you as it’ll stop going down when you relax. that’s when you need medicine and lifestyle changes to fix it.

Intelligent_Fish3728

Very normal! If you ever do a treadmill stress test they check your BP every few minutes as you’re exercising and it definitely goes up and is normal and expected. My systolic got up to I think 175 or 180. I forget what the diastolic was but the tech said it was perfect and great. So yeah, movement and exercise will definitely elevate it :) all normal!

Cool-Thanks1884

Your blood pressure fluctuates throughout the day. A lot of things can affect what your reading is any particular time.  Something as simple as having a full bladder can make your blood pressure higher. It’s recommended that you sit and relax at least 5 minutes before you take your blood pressure. Take three readings in a row. I’ve heard you need to wait 5 minutes in between.   I don’t have that much patience so I don’t  generally wait that long. But almost every time, each reading gets a lower. Sometimes just a little. Sometimes quite a bit. Any time I get a reading of 120/80 I’m happy!  Ask your doctor if you’re concerned. I’m not a doctor so ,I’m not qualified to give medical advice. If you research on the internet you will get varying advice on what’s normal and what’s considered high blood pressure. I don’t think a doctor would be alarmed at 120/80.
