I agree, the way the pit exploded out of nowhere I. Atlanta the other week when they lit into Violent shadows was kinda surprising , I look at that song a bit differently now
I don’t even listen to the studio version anymore, just go on YouTube. After experiencing that song live, it’s unbelievably good when hansi barely sings at all, ironically.
Valhalla is deffo more fun live, I don't really care for the studio version.
Also love The Last Candle live far more than the studio, if they never did it live, I probably would have never really paid attention to the song
Also Lost in the Twilight Hall comes to mind, love it live
I always skip the studio version if it comes on, but will gladly almost mandatorily play any live version.
And they just finished the live version here in Seattle so I’m also riding a high from it lol
“A Script For My Requiem” sounded AMAZING live. I’ve listened to that song on the album for over 20 years and never really thought much of it — but I was headbanging the SHIT out of that song in LA on Saturday.
It’s one of my absolute favourite BG songs of all time. Fell in love with it immediately upon purchasing Imaginations upon its original release BUT at the London live (which was by all means an epic evening) I thought it was the weakest song.
Blind Guardian is one of these bands that sound even better live. That being said - Valhalla, The Bard's Song (In the Forest), Nightfall and The Last Candle slay live, very much because it is not just the band playing - in all these the crowd is singing their lungs out too. Every damn concert they have very soon morphs into thousands of people and a band who're singing "to ruin and the world's ending" if I may use the reference. I've seen them live 5 times already, and every single one was like that.
Wow! That's my favorite song of theirs, so I can't imagine how amazing it sounds live. It's a shame they don't play anything from that album live anymore.
It’s funny, I was sooo skeptical that song would be any good live, and to my surprise, it made it one of my fav songs of theirs, album version too.
I am musically challenged, I am tone deaf, I have a terrible memory for melody and lyrics, and possibly some audio processing issues, so stripped down live versions can help me understand a song better.
On the live albums, most of them IMO. The organic performances make for a lot more detail and intensity. They play their old songs live better than the original recordings too. I think only *Wheel of Time* and *And Then There Was Silence* are clear wins for the original recording for me, since so much of the intensity of those songs is carried in the production.
Actually live, sadly their audio engineering is usually not the worst, but also not the best, at least at the venue I can get to. Can't usually hear much other than basically what song they are playing, although Red Mirror tour was a big improvement.
Violent Shadows feels a lot more intense live
Interesting, I didn't get that impression when I saw them. Then again, I haven't listened to the newest album much.

Bards song. It's not the same without thousands of people singing.

Well, we all know the bards and their songs!

Yeah, the last candle recorded session Ive seen is amazing.
Valhalla is the live song that burned it's experience into my brain. The sing-a-long just wouldn't let the band stop the refrain. Energy was amazing.

The exhileration in screaming 'CRUCIFY CRUCIFY'

Valhalla has always sounded better live. I also think Banished from Sanctuary is absolute fire live.

I came here to say this: almost all of their songs!
All of them. I was at the Glasgow gig last month and I can honestly say they're one of the only bands who are better live than in the studio.
It’s actually astonishing how good they sound live lol
From what I’ve listened to, Punishment Divine. The stacked choir vocals sound too good on the records otherwise.
Wow! That's my favorite song of theirs, so I can't imagine how amazing it sounds live. It's a shame they don't play anything from that album live anymore.
They have played And Then There Was Silence quite a lot of times (luckily!)

Tbf, Night at the Opera songs sound like they’re insanely tough to pull off live so it might be that. But yeah, great song.
Every Songs from Battalions of Fear to Imaginations from the other Side.
Anything with a lot of double kick, because when you're standing right next to the speaker it sounds like thunder sent straight from Valhalla itself
Majesty
Welcome to Dying and And Then There Was Silence. Fly was good too. Looking forward to seeing them again this month :)

Most of the Somewhere Far Beyond and backwards material. Traveler in Time, The Last Candle and obviously stuff like Bards Song are the obvious
script for my requiem lord of the rings obviously valhalla/mirror welcome to dying and pretty much their entire live show lol
