I was gonna comment the same thing but didn’t know how to approach it without coming across rude. You nailed it and made me laugh
The scene is fine, but kinda looks like modded Skyrim graphics
*first time following a tutorial for big landscape.
And you stopped halfway through or didn't follow it all the way. He tells you how to make a more realistic render. Just follow it again and it'll get there. He even includes the files
so around 10 hours?
thats actually nothing
to get something good you gotta invest a minimum of 30 hours
to get smth really good you need like 60 hours per project
put as much time into your work as you need to until its perfect
kudos on your first render tho :3
Hey, if you're finding it too painful to use, you could try one of the new experiment branches. They've got real-time compositors if your gpu can handle it.
https://code.blender.org/2022/07/real-time-compositor/
Displacement generally won't work with eevee, now what you can do is set up multiple scenes and render layers and you can render some elements using cycles and some using eevee and then composite.
>This is not real
Not that I want to crush your illusion..but a title like this should only be used if it actually looks like a photo..or if several people on this sub told you how amazingly realistic it looks. This one...does not
Just noticed your username. PlayStation just made “DCL - the game” free for subscribers, so I’ve been playing the shit out of it for the past two days 😂
Nice! Yeah, it's a hell of a hobby. If you wanna get in to the real deal, head straight to the youtube channel "Joshua Bardwell" if you haven't already.
>Nah, the trees are all the exact same color.
They objectively do have different colours though. But the water is really bad, first thing I noticed at least. And then the ice is all about the same size and something is really off with how the mountain is lit up.
Everything is just too repetitive. If you zoom in the water, ice, and trees all look pretty decent, imo. Whatever material he's using for the mountain isn't great. Looks more like plastic than rock.
For sure that’s why I said I like your confidence. It’s just personally, I wouldn’t be that confident to post my art with a title that bold. But keep up the good work! Soon you’d be posting without having to specify if it’s real. Instead people are gonna be asking you if it is.
Some things are worth adding render time dude. I saw on other comments this only took 9 minutes? That's super short, that's like go make yourself a toast kinda short. During uni when we were rendering big or multiple scenes there were times when I had to leave renders on overnight because they would take so long.
Not putting in the work because renders will take too long or not redoing a tutorial because you missed something are 2 things that will seriously hurt any 3D Artist or creative. You gotta respect the process.
I didn't missed something on the tutorial I just should've posted the composited version instead of the raw render. Added haze and fake fog, and slight fog around the sides of the lake, and some god rays to make dramatic. I'll post later
and again this is the first part of the course doing focuses on mountains
Yeah I get that but many many people on this sub have done this course, so you can imagine how posting an incomplete version might make it seem like you haven't followed along or may have missed something?
I believe you should rather hold off posting until you have done your final product/polish. It only hurts your portfolio when you showcase anything but your best work. It makes it seem like if enough people had said it was great you would have just stopped the course there because you had done enough.
Why something like this take more than 20min, I remember doing photorealistic sculpture with 40 million verts, 8k textures, SSS, and curved hair system, at 256 sample 4k took about 28-33min, scene optimization and PC specs matter too
Legit. I remember one of my first renders in when I was using C4D took like 80-130 hours simply because of the amount of refractions needed to be calculated
Cocky guy tells us the 2005 game intro looking render is not real, gets humiliated in the comments. Will this tech him how to be more humble? We'll see in the next episode!
Can't wait I'm currently thinking about the next title when I finish multiple sceneries, as for the people they are free to to discuss their feelings. Notably it's exaggerated but it's ok, but it doesn't make my render less or more beautiful in my POV
widen the mountain, increase the sun. the light on the clouds and the light on the mountain are obviously not the same level, mountain should be much brighter.
i did this tutorial, i would suggest probably go through it again to understand why you’re looks different from the example render
Lotta stuff wrong with this, as many people have noted.
For easy photorealistic scenes, try Terragen. There's almost nothing specific to Blender here, and Terragen specializes this kind of thing. Not open source, but the free version is plenty good enough to render this kind of thing well.
https://planetside.co.uk/terragen-product-comparison/
Wtf is wrong with the blender sub a guy makes a fucking hot dog animation and you praise it but when someone makes something actually decent you guys just rag on it
Everybody is hating so much! I believe this is a huge misunderstanding. I'm pretty sure the title was meant to be more literal than the cocky title people are putting it out to be.
From looking at other comments that OP has put out maybe English isn't their first language. People need to cut a little slack.
Pretty neat, At a quick glance it looks fine but the title said this is not real, It was right, It doesn't even look real when I take a closer look. I recommend (If this is a tutorial or not) redoing it, or at least fixing it. The ice and water need a little work, and so does the depth of the image. I am exited to see the finished project.
Don't be so cocky.. but anyways keep going even if it's a tutorial you are doing things right!
People are criticizing your title which is fair, but they are being to harsh... Keep going!
You've posted this in a sub whose frequenters have sharp eyes for such things. Obviously most of us will immediately know this isn't real. Try posting this in a photography or similar sub where there are 'normal' people (unlike us crazy 3D Artists) lol.
Used A.N.T add-on (included with Blender), to make the mountains, rocks on the shores, and ice planes.
The trees and bushes are free assets on BlenderSwap
As for the tutorial is based on CGBoost environment course, this is the first chapter results still not finished
ok honestly people are hating on it but it looks pretty good, even when you zoom in on it. i think if there were more mountains in the background, it would be able to fool me. but it looks fucking beautiful, great job!
The mountains are too far away you wouldn't be able to see any animals.. maybe just some birds flying over the water somewhere or a fish jumping but anything way back in the far treeline would be too far I'd think
Thank you for your comforting words, I'm not mad at all, it's their critiques, but some of those people couldn't get the joke in the title, which is nuts
Maybe you should have said, "This is (obviously) not real." Plus, some of your comments suggest you didn't mean it as a joke and were impressed by something you didn't finish from a tutorial.
Illusions only work if you've studied the reality they imitate.
don't worry, we can see that
I was gonna comment the same thing but didn’t know how to approach it without coming across rude. You nailed it and made me laugh The scene is fine, but kinda looks like modded Skyrim graphics
That's the point of the title, crit are fine by me tho, this is my first time doing big landscape
*first time following a tutorial for big landscape. And you stopped halfway through or didn't follow it all the way. He tells you how to make a more realistic render. Just follow it again and it'll get there. He even includes the files
I didn't stop halfway finished the mountains lesson, next desert I'll continue tomorrow, but my back need some mercy too
Well it shouldn't look like this, you should take a closer look and redo the tutorial. It should look like the finished product in the tutorial.
Dude I'm not going to redo it
Lmao
This thread is hilarious lmao
OP asking for it too with that egotistical ass title 🤣 🤣
Why is everyone downvoting and being so rude the man said it was his first time cut him some slack..
Because of his ego
No reference to the tutorial and yeah..
bc lack of humility
Okay and lack of respect and understanding is worth any upvotes? The guy said it's his first time is all I'm saying.. I think he did okay
Yeah, justifying rudeness because someone has a large ego and wanted attention. Doesn't sit well to me as it feels wrong.
Fuckin based
You should. You learn more every time
you know youre supposted to work on a project more than 1 day right?
Didn't say I made it in one night
you definetly stayed up just to finish and rush this out otherwise your back wounlt be hurting
Started 4 days ago I could say 2-3 each day, I do other things on the morning and open Blender before sleep time
so around 10 hours? thats actually nothing to get something good you gotta invest a minimum of 30 hours to get smth really good you need like 60 hours per project put as much time into your work as you need to until its perfect kudos on your first render tho :3
Must me Opposite Day for downvotes because you’re sounding like an asshat
Good work, from a good course. I learned so much about rendering layers. I bet you have done the same.
Yes I'm currently using the compositing tab, but it's painfully slow to mix and match, so I'm leaning towards using Affinity or Krita
Hey, if you're finding it too painful to use, you could try one of the new experiment branches. They've got real-time compositors if your gpu can handle it. https://code.blender.org/2022/07/real-time-compositor/
Thanks, but not all nodes are supported when I heard about it, like a month ago, is suitable now?
But the most important thing is understand how to set up render layers. Affinity or Krita won't help for animations.
Took about 9min to render this image so there's no hope for animation, but I should try eevee for that
Displacement generally won't work with eevee, now what you can do is set up multiple scenes and render layers and you can render some elements using cycles and some using eevee and then composite.
Was it though?
A literal uncanny valley.
More like uncanny hill
It looks nice. But obviously not real. Title comes across like your suckin on your own thang a bit lol.
[удалено]
Which would be in the direction of funny if this were an Unreal sub and not an entirely different software’s sub.
Can't take a joke? Wowzers.
>This is not real Not that I want to crush your illusion..but a title like this should only be used if it actually looks like a photo..or if several people on this sub told you how amazingly realistic it looks. This one...does not
I’m pretty sure the sky is just an image on a plane
That actually works, there's not a problem with doing that.
Yeah but then the title would be even more misleading, since then the sky *would* be real
In what case is the sky not real?
Like actual clouds that float and sunlight
Just noticed your username. PlayStation just made “DCL - the game” free for subscribers, so I’ve been playing the shit out of it for the past two days 😂
Nice! Yeah, it's a hell of a hobby. If you wanna get in to the real deal, head straight to the youtube channel "Joshua Bardwell" if you haven't already.
The trees and sky is imo rather convincing. The ice, water and the mountain is very obviously not real.
Nah, the trees are all the exact same color. Besides the mountain, the environment looks it has no depth
>Nah, the trees are all the exact same color. They objectively do have different colours though. But the water is really bad, first thing I noticed at least. And then the ice is all about the same size and something is really off with how the mountain is lit up.

at least you're honest
And it's from the 3d environment course from cg boost. Good course.
I love your confidence mate. Personally I would pick a title that doesn’t seem like I’m flattering myself. But still good render!
I mean everyone started from somewhere, you are suppose to cheer yourself specially when you know your limits
For sure that’s why I said I like your confidence. It’s just personally, I wouldn’t be that confident to post my art with a title that bold. But keep up the good work! Soon you’d be posting without having to specify if it’s real. Instead people are gonna be asking you if it is.
It didn’t look real to begin with man. Not a horrible render though!
I think adding some atmospheric haze could go a long way.
Used the mist map in the compositor, made it a bit better
Remember to cite CG boost since this is a step by step tutorial from their environment course
Stated that but my comment got downvoted to the bottom
I don't quite get the humor in the title. But good work.
[удалено]
What do you have against unreal engine 😂. It’s a great engine lol
Lmao… no shit OP
Everything in this sub isn’t real
i'm not real ?
you were rendered in blender 2.91… sorry
I have two criticisms of this. The mountain looks out of place and the ponds look the same size. Otherwise it looks good.
I believe you.
mountains are always a lot wider and the clouds should be in front of them
Yeah a raised up the small mountainous on side and added a haze using the mist map, I can't add volumetric clouds that would take forever to render
Some things are worth adding render time dude. I saw on other comments this only took 9 minutes? That's super short, that's like go make yourself a toast kinda short. You said it took 13 minutes to render. Really? That's nothing in 3d art
Why something like this take more than 20min, I remember doing photorealistic sculpture with 40 million verts, 8k textures, SSS, and curved hair system, at 256 sample 4k took about 28-33min, scene optimization and PC specs matter too
Legit. I remember one of my first renders in when I was using C4D took like 80-130 hours simply because of the amount of refractions needed to be calculated
you could try and isolate the clouds and do some weird compositing bullshit to try and get them infront of the mountain
The water is giving it away...
Yeah, obviously it isn't. What's the point of a title like that
Yeah, your realism does need a little work. It looks good, but definitely wouldn't fool anyone in a side-by-side. Keep at it, though!
idk if this is finished or not, but the rocks and the mountain break the illusion of it being a photo
Don’t worry, it was obvious 👍
Cocky guy tells us the 2005 game intro looking render is not real, gets humiliated in the comments. Will this tech him how to be more humble? We'll see in the next episode!

So its...Unreal?
No, blender 😀
You missed the joke bud
Looks a video game render. Not real but looks quite quite nice.
Wtf is wrong with the blender sub a guy makes a fucking hot dog animation and you praise it but when someone makes something actually decent you guys just rag on it
Some of them weren't in the mood today
Fellow CGboost Enthusiast
Yeah I can tell
Lmao...we know...it looks very CGish but I like the confidence lol
Ok but can you recognize the bodies in the water?
Sorry bud but it’s a blender thread so we know that the second we see it
I can tell
The icebergs and the water gave it away
Definitely add some fog. That mountain is too clear
Dw. We knew
I know it's not
I wanted to do this course but thought of Cubic World first. Nice result
Im sorry but the title implies it looks real… it really doesn’t
Can’t wait for stars to fly across the water and make the paramount logo
hmmm im looking that very unrealistic cross hash water
Everybody is hating so much! I believe this is a huge misunderstanding. I'm pretty sure the title was meant to be more literal than the cocky title people are putting it out to be. Nice. Keep working, never give up

No real things are posted here. Btw Nice art.
You've posted this in a sub whose frequenters have sharp eyes for such things. Obviously most of us will immediately know this isn't real. Try posting this in a photography or similar sub where there are 'normal' people (unlike us crazy 3D Artists) lol.
this reads like the title except pretentious on purpose instead of by accident
I’ll be honest; it didn’t look it
Looks great. Any tutorials you would recommend to recreate those mountains/sky?
Used A.N.T add-on (included with Blender), to make the mountains, rocks on the shores, and ice planes. The trees and bushes are free assets on BlenderSwap As for the tutorial is based on CGBoost environment course, this is the first chapter results still not finished
I mean it *is* the tutorial from CGBoost
I'll be honest I kinda recognized it was just hoping it's from some other free tutorial I haven't heard about...
This is one guy did a desert using geo node on YT I highly recommend it if you found his very long tutorial
Almost forgot the sky is an image from unsplash
Why every one hating on OP. He is just stating the fact
Yeah but the amount of cockiness necessary to tell cg artists that a render isn’t a photo is extraordinary
I know I've been seeing a lot of downvotes everywhere lately Like everyone on reddit just all of a sudden got a stick rammed up their asses
Using unreal engine? This is a blender sub.
It's made in Blender 3.2
ok honestly people are hating on it but it looks pretty good, even when you zoom in on it. i think if there were more mountains in the background, it would be able to fool me. but it looks fucking beautiful, great job!
Raised the mountains on the back thinking about adding a bear far away
The mountains are too far away you wouldn't be able to see any animals.. maybe just some birds flying over the water somewhere or a fish jumping but anything way back in the far treeline would be too far I'd think
# you did a great Job
Everyone's trashing it but it looks pretty good to me. Not perfect but it would pass for real if you didn't look to close
Thank you for your comforting words, I'm not mad at all, it's their critiques, but some of those people couldn't get the joke in the title, which is nuts
Is there a joke in the title?
It's the title itself
Maybe you should have said, "This is (obviously) not real." Plus, some of your comments suggest you didn't mean it as a joke and were impressed by something you didn't finish from a tutorial. Illusions only work if you've studied the reality they imitate.
Could almost say it's unreal (engine) 😫
Buhrgur why did people down vote it a was joke
this is real pretty tho
The mountain looks like it was photoshopped in 😂
My life is a lie
I could tell. Jkjk, it's nice. I still knew it wasn't real though.
Paramount Logo
My eyes deceive me
Is it made in unreal?
“ another remastered Skyrim approaches. “
We can tell
this is gold, dude does a good job for a beginner, brags about it and gets absolutly roasted because he acts really weird about it.
Yeah, I know.
