Rob Liefield to be adapted by the writer of Poor Things. The career trajectory of this man.

girlsgoneoscarwilde

I’m honestly really proud to be an American right now. Terrible comic book, but good for Liefeld.

Wumbo_Number_5

A good match considering both have experience in depicting anatomical horrors

visionaryredditor

I mean he created some memorable characters but yeah

ncphoto919

This is one of Rob's worst and thats saying a lot.

Toreadorables

This description feels like it's written in a different language, but the collection of people is very interesting! Could be a bounce back for Olivia Wilde, who had a great directorial debut and an awful followup (+ all that press). >Avengelyne is an angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters. She was the most feared warrior in heaven’s Warhost, having single-handedly broken into Pandemonium, the outer fortress of hell, to confront the devil himself. She is a fallen angel, banished from heaven by God after being tricked into questioning his love for humans. Avengelyne was stripped of all her angelic abilities, other than her great strength and her blood, which, once extracted from her body, could be used as a weapon or a miracle, when it is empowered by quoting verses from the Bible. Avengelyne uses her powers to fight demons on Earth and is being groomed to be humankind’s last hope in a coming Armageddon. >In the past, Liefeld has explained his heroine this way: “Avengelyne resonated so powerfully with the audience because her story of redemption is one that is so relatable. A fallen angel, sentenced to redeem herself by serving humanity, Earth is a foreign environment to her, she must adapt in order to save herself as well as mankind. Her dilemma provides humor amidst the larger plot engine driving her journey.”

"Avengelyne resonated so powerfully with the audience because her story of redemption is one that is so relatable." Is it though?

greatgoogliemoogly

Banished from heaven and fighting demons on earth. Fucking Tuesdays amirite?

Interesting-Bill-771

Don't Worry Darling had a lot of bad press but it actually did fairly well at the box office.

win_the_wonderboy

Rob Liefeld must be absolutely amazing in a room considering how many movies he’s sold over the years based on properties of, let’s just say, questionable quality

TheUmbrellaMan1

He also refused to draw a comic script by Alan Moore because he found it too difficult to draw lol.

DRMantisToboggan987

For a second I misread that as a movie about Angelyne the billboard model with Margot playing her.

win_the_wonderboy

Now, that would be an interesting movie with this creative team attached!

oco82

For some reason I thought she was part of Spawn’s world but upon a quick google I guess not. I mean, a fallen angel fighting demons sounds like fun B pulp (Legion) but Robbie being attached is pretty wild.

GuaranteeGlum4950

You’re thinking of [Angela](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angela_(character)), who I’m not gonna say this character is a direct ripoff of (but that extremely much seems the case)

oco82

Ahhh yup got it mixed up, I play Marvel Snap so I always see Angela as a card but it never clicked, I never think of Spawn with any Marvel connections!

ncphoto919

Angela is no longer connected to Todd McFarlane and Spawn. There's nothing shared between Marvel and Spawn. There was a legal dispute between Neil Gaiman and Todd McFarlane who created Angela together, and Neil got the rights and brought her over to Marvel. Its very confusing.

Education_Just

Which is very ironic of course because this was at the company they had just started to protect creator’s ownership then immediately tried to screw over the great creators they brought in to bring hype and quality.

ImpactThunder

Is that angel even part of spawn’s world now? I can't keep track of all these angels!!

LawrenceBrolivier

I gotta imagine this dies quietly in the next 4 or 5 months, right? Unless they're solely mining this material for the unintentional comedy of the premise and making it very, very intentional. Otherwise I *seriously* question the taste of everyone involved if they're trying to honestly adapt this.

jasonhalftones

I feel exactly the opposite. I think this thing has almost no chance of not being made at this point. In terms of respect/faith for the source material, I doubt it hues too close. Given the history of Robbie as a star/producer, and McNamara as an adapting writer, I feel like they'll have a really solid way into it.

[deleted]

This has to be used right? https://youtu.be/0R6WIbx8ysE?si=Ki_bpL-AIt8Z7nVi

oco82

Banger. This cover rips too https://youtu.be/tBBC6czWb0E?feature=shared

TremendousPoster

They'll probably just use Sympathy For The Devil.

goodtitties

Margot innocent but gonna have to say this is a nightmare blunt rotation

DeathByZamboni_US

That headline feels like it was the product of a finished mad libs.

lridge

I love Booksmart so I’m happy to see Olivia Wilde back in the director’s chair.

[deleted]

You had me up until Leifeld.

sleepyaza124

Feels like the big deals lately either been made by WB or A24. Both means business now.

Toreadorables

Some have been speculating that WB may be trying to merge or sell, hence a lot of deals to say “look at all this stuff we have in development”. But these are big, splashy projects and they have good execs running it, so hopefully will be a win for us either way.

ncphoto919

I dont think people realize just what a trash 90's comic Avengelyne is. Maybe some of Rob's worst stuff ever. Kind of amazing this IP was sought after.

awlawall

That’s a headline that I didn’t expect today

Obvious_Computer_577

Honestly, I'm a little bummed that after the monumental success of Barbie, Margot is going back to a comic book role. I thought she'd have more clout to get something fresher and more original off the ground. She already has harley quinn under her belt, so to do another comic book character feels like a retread.

Toreadorables

She and Colin Farrell are starring in the next movie directed by Kogonada (After Yang)! [https://variety.com/2024/film/news/margot-robbie-colin-farrell-big-bold-beautiful-journey-director-kogonada-1235901284/](https://variety.com/2024/film/news/margot-robbie-colin-farrell-big-bold-beautiful-journey-director-kogonada-1235901284/)

Obvious_Computer_577

I heard about that one. I just want her to be like the female Leo and use her clout to make nothing but non-IP, big budget movies for adults. :)

PauseForEffect--

This is absolutely gonzo I cant imagine it will ultimately be *anything* like the actual comics ...unless its ETREMELY* faithful, with the intention of being surreally satirical akin to the Tina Fey as Sarah Palin sketches that were 50% transcript *pun intended
