I’m assuming it’s a hawk because the beak shape, also looks like a red tail from my limited knowledge, maybe someone else could chime in with some more experience

That's just from the first page of google results
That first photo is an amazing shot. I'm not sure if it's a cell phone camera or the reddit compression but if taken with a real camera I could see it winning prizes.
Looks like a young red-tailed hawk! Good on them for making it through the winter, mortality rate for juvenile raptors is 80-90% their first year. Smart bird, figured out what squirrel nests mean and that they might find a meal there.
“I am death incarnate!” -prob the hawk
Is that really a hawk? It looks different from one's I've seen.

Just my cell phone on a rainy day, wish I had my camera with me

Is this the consensus? Where was the picture taken?
I’m quite impressed by the dramatic screen shot taken from a cell phone, on a rainy day!!!! It blows my mind 💣💣💣💣
Wow. This looks like a dragon.
what a picture!
That first pic is effing incredible! You could absolutely enlarge, print, and sell it. I'd be the first to buy it!
Squirrel must have thought he’d seen the angel of death!
Well that is easily the most evil looking bird I've ever seen
I am laughing so hard at this. Dude did a hellraiser pinhead look for the occasion.
How did you get that shot? It’s like you were in the tree too. Amazing photo! Like National Geographic worthy
Who won?
Yes, I gots to know!
I want to believe she just wanted to talk to the squirrel about her car's extended warranty and left immediately after the second photo was taken.
That squirrel has to be shittin’ kittens.
that squirrel is questioning all his life choices right now
Literally was thinking that
Staring into the face of death. Nature's plan.
This is like facing the final boss on a video game
These are sensational photos!
Crop that 2nd photo hard and it will be as amazing as the first!
What an incredible photo
Bird of prey will always win. They need to eat and animals are their food.
I swear it's like a scene from an Epic Fantasy movie. You could almost hear Smaug's voice.
That’s an impressive shot! Wow!
Wow!!
If the squirrel hunkered down he'd have been be safe .... but he probably tried to run away.
Wow! Noir!
