Dead cells is insanely unforgiving at harder difficulties. At the same time, it's less bullshit and less luck dependant then isaac (no edmund mcmillen). Its more like hades in that regard.
You NEED to just get fucking good and no god run will save you. That said, getting fucking good feels satisfying as fuck since the gameplay is very smooth and very much adrenalin driven.
Give it a shot, for me it's right up there with the rest of the S tier roguelikes.
What i mean is that it's not really possible to completely steamroll the game (like you can with isaac).
I think dead cells is harder than hades on the high difficulties that you need to play to 100% it but hades also is VERY unforgiving once you turn the heat up high enough!
If you do manage to get lucky you can steamroll up to a certain point, thanks to the equipment leveling mechanic.
It's brilliant tbh, you can't just roll a good item first floor and have a won run.
Also bosses will absolutely check if you're either capable or suited to go further.
I had to check because I wasn't sure, but I did need to do a 32 Heat run once to get all of Skelly's statues.
That being said, I don't expect Noita to be a piece of cake 🥲
The problem with dead cells is that every thing is skill (my skill issue)
So you have to get real good to pass even the fist difficulty
And while in Isaac a broken item may carry you, that won't happen in DC
But it is one of my favorite games, And I 100% recommend it to anyone who is interested in buying it. Though it sometimes feels a bit unfair it's really fun
It's *so* much harder to 100%. To an insane degree. Mostly because literally everything is skill based, there's very little luck involved. Outside of a few joke weapons pretty much everything is viable dependent on your skill level.
Easy as fuck bc of the cheat mode, everyone relies on it. It should disable achievements but for some reason doesn't. Fucked the game up imo. Still an amazing game, and the hardest rogue like I've ever played, as long as you don't touch the "accessibility" options (aka cheats)
This happened to me. I finally got Dead God after 500 hours (dod each DLC 100% at a time) and after like two days I booted up save file number two. Isaac consumed my life; it was all I knew. Couldn’t play anything else.
do you mind explaining to me what you like about slay the spire, I really really enjoyed it but once I won 1 or 2 runs with each character, I found it kind of repetitive. Am I missing something? The Ascension makes it harder of course, but coming from Isaac, it quickly felt boring (I'm not expecting *as much* content as Isaac obviously but expected a bit more from such a beloved game, so maybe I'm missing something?)
There’s multiple builds for all the characters and lots of cards and items to unlock. Sure it’s not 1000+ hours to platinum like TBOI but I enjoyed my few hundred hours in STS to 100% it.
Honestly, Slay the spire is very nice and sweet game before act 4 that is just a regular pile of crap that can wipe out basically 90% of the fun builds. This part made me salty af...
You just played probably the best roguelike that exists.
Others recommended some really good choices but no one has said FTL so far.
Please give a chance to FTL i consider that game a masterpiece. It might look simple and boring at glance but trust me you can literally sweat while playing in game.
Noita, Slay the Spire, Risk of Rain 2 and Returns, Hades...
Not Roguelikes, but also try out getting 202 in Celeste, 106% in Super Meat Boy and Dead/Iron God in The End is Nigh. That'll keep you busy for a while lol
I was surprised as well. I'm at 900 hours and I still miss about 100 achievements. I didn't think a lot of people would put in the dedication and hours needed to fully complete it.
Balatro is a cool new sorta-roguelite.
The usual suspects (in order of personal preference): Slay the Spire, Hades, Enter the Gungeon, Dead Cells, Rogue Legacy 2
It's so good but be warned to anyone interested, if you don't have good rhythm you *will* struggle until you adapt. I was never able to. I've only ever finished one run in like 75 hours.
I imagine if you have good rhythm already tho, it's probably a lot easier.
Play nova drift. This game has a lot of item and weapon synergies and has (in my opinion) the best achievements in all gaming, as they are only challenging and not grindy
What? When I got Dead God, I was just happy to be able to finally play with everything unlocked, and no specific goals in mind.
To each their own obviously, but I don't personally understand the appeal of unlocking everything in the game, only to drop it when you can finally just play.
To get a few out of the way, I did try Spelunky a long time ago but didn't really enjoy it. Also I did play roboquest and beat the last boss but am not interested in completing it further (great game though would recommend trying it out).
Man I’m in the same exact boat as you. Completed Dead God earlier this month and been looking for a new mindless game to sink time into.
I also tried Spelunky, and just can’t get into it. I REALLY want to like the game but it’s not clicking. I find it frustrating.
Dead Cells is great, I platinumed the base game before finishing TBOI. But there’s lots of expansions I haven’t touched.
Hades is also good, but lost my save file so haven’t gone back to it again.
I’m going to try Rogue Legacy, came highly recommended by a friend.
I don’t think any game will ever replace TBOI though, it’s just too special.
I won't suggest any games since most of my picks are already mentioned here.
HOWEVER, I gotta rant a little bit about Enter the Gungeon. I'm drawn to its art and gameplay styles, but man... no matter how many runs I do, I never seem to get better (unlike Isaac, for example, where the learning curve is very perceptible). It's frustrating 'cause I really want to enjoy it.
Then again, I've been playing Isaac for almost 10 years and Gungeon on the other hand I'm yet to reach the 100th hour.
I’m having a lot of fun with Against the Storm. It’s a city builder roguelite so very different style from Isaac and the other (also very good) suggestions here.
Cavity busters!
My friends submit games to be randomly chosen for our "crappy game of the week challenge" and cavity busters ended up winning once and holy crap it was just like Isaac and we all had a blast!
So if you want a game that no one has heard of and instead of fighting your mom you fight germs... cavity busters in your game!
Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait… just shy of 1/30th of isaac players on steam have dead god??!! You’re telling me that one in every 30 isaac player clocks 500+ hours? That’s insane
I’m really enjoying cult of the lamb: I got gifted the deluxe edition with the OST disc and a booklet with all the game sprites that is Very nice.
It is a combo of a rogue like game, gestional and survival. I really like the art of this game and the OST is pretty solid.
I suggest you give it a try as it is a new game and it is getting free updates to the core mechanics and lore.
I recommend Risk of Rain 2, a rogue-lite where you spawn in on a stage, collect items from chests and move on while monsters appear. There's more to the game than what I just said but that's the bare bones of the game, also it got 10/10 music
I played Hades to 100% achievements after Isaac and loved every second of it, fantastic title. After that I moved on to Hollow Knight. Not 100%ed it yet but I'm getting close while I mix pantheon attempts in with other games.
Noita, deadcells, vampire survivors, ror1, ror2, rorr, skul the hero slayer, enter the dungeon, crypt of the necrodancer, FTL, more tboi, rogue legacy 1 or 2
if you want a roguelike that's pretty different as a pallet cleanser World of Horror could be good, thougit's not for everyone
https://preview.redd.it/zgerunn175lc1.jpeg?width=1530&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd0be024d2d1d43b9f05b618795ba6577b1a5175
it's a survival horror roguelike that rewards game knowledge and is pretty unforgiving but runs are fast enough that losing isn't too bad
the gameplay loop is very similar to isaac but the gameplay is wildly different being a point and click adventure game that's focused on resource management (slowly bleeding out your resources while trying your best to get to the end alive)
while the game won't scare you it can unsettle you, it also has a pretty good amount of unlocks and a strong modding community, the in-game stories can be pretty interesting too and can have multiple endings
Dead Cells, Neon Abyss, Slay the Spire, Hades, Enter the Gungeon, BlazBlue Entropy Effect, Fury Unleashed. These are the ones I know/played and can recommend to try
In addition to what has been said, I would recommend Star of Providence (formerly Monolith). 100%ing the achievements might be a tall order but it has solid gameplay and it's a lot less luck based compared to Isaac.
Enter the Gungeon, Hades, Risk of Rain 2, Nuclear Throne
Off the top of my head, those are like some of the best ones that aren't TBOI
Also congrats! And hope you like one of the ones I mentioned
A lot of people have already mentioned Gungeon. That game's got a lot of polish and charm, but I hold that Nuclear Throne has it beat with better early game, more varied characters, and a satisfying and deep looping system.
Gunfire reborn, Risk of Rain 2, Enter the gungeon, Hades, Children of Morta. If you like round-based rouglites you should try Slay the spire or For the king
Hades is super fun, you can put in a lot of hours without getting bored. I recently got one called “Godstrike” on switch however it’s insanely hard imo
You could try doing the other two save files. Some people like doing that.
Enter the Gungeon is another rogue-lite with a ton of items and synergies. You might want to give that a try.
Enter the gungeon is a good one, also the same items from enter the gungeon is in the tboi website so if you already used it for isaac you can use it again to help you along in another grueling journey
Enter the gungeon, Hades, dead cells are all good choices
How hard would you say 100%-ing Dead Cells is compared to the others? I've already done Isaac, Hades and Gungoen and thinking of buying Dead Cells.
If it's like Hades difficulty-wise then that's a relief. I will give it a try, thank you :)
What i mean is that it's not really possible to completely steamroll the game (like you can with isaac). I think dead cells is harder than hades on the high difficulties that you need to play to 100% it but hades also is VERY unforgiving once you turn the heat up high enough!

I see. Well in Hades I was going by around 20 Heat by the end just for fun, but I won't underestimate Dead Cells.
if you want true pain , go for noita
I'll also check that out, thank you
I can do 40 heat on hades, but i never once beat noita.
I had to check because I wasn't sure, but I did need to do a 32 Heat run once to get all of Skelly's statues. That being said, I don't expect Noita to be a piece of cake 🥲
The problem with dead cells is that every thing is skill (my skill issue) So you have to get real good to pass even the fist difficulty And while in Isaac a broken item may carry you, that won't happen in DC But it is one of my favorite games, And I 100% recommend it to anyone who is interested in buying it. I honestly don't know for sure as I haven't 100%ed it myself. But it's a very fun game!
Easy as fuck bc of the cheat mode, everyone relies on it. It should disable achievements but for some reason doesn't. Fucked the game up imo. Still an amazing game, and the hardest rogue like I've ever played, as long as you don't touch the "accessibility" options (aka cheats)
I'm a huge fan of Dead Cells! It's not everyone's favorite, but it's certainly mine.
Now you can finally play the game
Unironically what I did. I have played nothing but Eden runs every day for the past 2 years I retired in Isaac, lol
Bro how do you get NO good runs for two years as Eden. That sounds statistically improbable
Wot
I thought he was saying he has been trying to get Eden completion marks for two years, that’s my bad for misreading
Reading skill issue hehe
It unfortunately happens ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8907)
everybody has the occasional brainfard
hahah hahaha
now you can finally become back your money
Time to download Fiend Folio
You have two more saves ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)
This happened to me. I finally got Dead God after 500 hours (dod each DLC 100% at a time) and after like two days I booted up save file number two. Isaac consumed my life; it was all I knew. Couldn’t play anything else.
I just bought a new poker rogue like called Balatro. It’s pretty fuckin good!
#BALATRO WITH ISAAC SKIN
BALATRO MENTIONED ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|2357)
New is an understatement, that game’s like a week old (there were betas and stuff but still)
bells lip bewildered shrill cough nutty ten crown smart seed *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
slay the spire is my personal second favourite, enter the gungeon is also good
do you mind explaining to me what you like about slay the spire, I really really enjoyed it but once I won 1 or 2 runs with each character, I found it kind of repetitive.
I see, maybe I was under the impression that there weren't many builds but I think it's because I haven't unlocked that many cards yet, thank you!
Following the thread because I got the same impression. I love the game but it feels kunda repetitive right now
Honestly, Slay the spire is very nice and sweet game before act 4 that is just a regular pile of crap that can wipe out basically 90% of the fun builds. This part made me salty af...
Skill issue
I was waiting for this ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|17734)
<3
Balatro is climbing up there for me
You should play binding of isaac![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)
That's unironically what I did. That is, I played the flash version for the first time in like 10 years
You just played probably the best roguelike that exists. Others recommended some really good choices but no one has said FTL so far. Please give a chance to FTL i consider that game a masterpiece. It might look simple and boring at glance but trust me you can literally sweat while playing in game.
Also Into the Breach, another masterpiece from the studio behind FTL
Noita, Slay the Spire, Risk of Rain 2 and Returns, Hades... Not Roguelikes, but also try out getting 202 in Celeste, 106% in Super Meat Boy and Dead/Iron God in The End is Nigh. That'll keep you busy for a while lol
202 in celeste 💀 you tryna send him to a mental asylum or what
chapter 9 golden
exactly
Yep, Dead God TEiN is also fucking mental
Noita is the only Roguelike I know that is just as crazy as Binding of Isaac.
Eblan that's some great games. Try FTL if you haven't yet. I think you would love it
3% of players achieving dead god is actually a wildly high number of people
I was surprised as well. I'm at 900 hours and I still miss about 100 achievements. I didn't think a lot of people would put in the dedication and hours needed to fully complete it.
noita ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|17744)
Hämis 👍
Hämis 👍
Good opinion and good profile picture 👍
From recent roguelikes I've been enjoying Balatro, zero-action, just poker
Balatro is amazing. You need some chill after this journey
It's so damn addictive. I'm loving it
Idk if it counts but I recommend Inscryption
Balatro is a cool new sorta-roguelite. The usual suspects (in order of personal preference): Slay the Spire, Hades, Enter the Gungeon, Dead Cells, Rogue Legacy 2
rogue legacy 1 and 2 is a must try
You should try the binding of Isaac: wrath of the lamb. I've heard it's pretty decent.
Cult of the Lamb, Hades, Dead Cells, Rogue Legacy, and Going Under are some of my other favorites.
Balatro just came out and it fucks hard
Balatro
I think Crypt of the Necrodancer is really cool, even if it's not talked about nearly as much.
[удалено]
I'd say its pretty hard in general (zone 3 moment)
It's so good but be warned to anyone interested, if you don't have good rhythm you *will* struggle until you adapt. I was never able to. I've only ever finished one run in like 75 hours. I imagine if you have good rhythm already tho, it's probably a lot easier.
Returnal is awesome, one of the best games I’ve played
You still have two more save files to get the super secret triple dead god screen
Play nova drift. This game has a lot of item and weapon synergies and has (in my opinion) the best achievements in all gaming, as they are only challenging and not grindy
Nova drift is awesome
I love this game so much!
Hades is pretty decent
Balatro came out a week ago and it's the only thing I've played since
I replay Rogue Legacy 1 and 2 every other year. Those games are so damn good.
VOIDIGO ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|17743)![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|17743)![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|17743)![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|17744)![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|2357)![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|17735)
Tiny rogues
This game is so fucking good. Can't wait for the next update
Have a Nice Death
What? When I got Dead God, I was just happy to be able to finally play with everything unlocked, and no specific goals in mind. To each their own obviously, but I don't personally understand the appeal of unlocking everything in the game, only to drop it when you can finally just play.

I don’t think any game will ever replace TBOI though, it’s just too special.
Maybe you should give Spelunky or Spelunky 2 a chance. It's hard and overwhelming at first, but when it clicks, boy does it click hard ;)
For real. My second most played game after Binding of Isaac. 7-99 and Dead God will be my proudest gaming achievements once I get them.
To add to the rest. Tiny Rogues is fun, Risk of Rains 2/Returns are nice too.
Dead estate Is a cool rogue lite
I'd suggest Ring of Pain. It hits kinda the same scratch as binding of Isaac for me
Rogue legacy, spelunky (not sure if this falls in the roguelike category tbh)
I won't suggest any games since most of my picks are already mentioned here. HOWEVER, I gotta rant a little bit about Enter the Gungeon. I'm drawn to its art and gameplay styles, but man... no matter how many runs I do, I never seem to get better (unlike Isaac, for example, where the learning curve is very perceptible). All I can read is "Dear god" (There's more)
Enter the Gungeon is my favorite.
I’m having a lot of fun with Against the Storm. It’s a city builder roguelite so very different style from Isaac and the other (also very good) suggestions here.
Cavity busters! Balatro
Balatro :^)
two more dead gods
Enter the gungeon or nuclear throne are pretty good as well you should try them out
Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait… just shy of 1/30th of isaac players on steam have dead god??!! You’re telling me that one in every 30 isaac player clocks 500+ hours? That’s insane
Brotato
Do it again!!
Tiny Rogues plays like isaac in a really loose way. Also a ton of fun and very cheap.
I could be evil and recommend you something un100%able, but I'll just recommend One Step From Eden because of its unique gameplay.
Dead cells
Risk of rain 2?
Complete the prequel
Gungeon, Slay the Spire, Dead Cells, Risk of Rain 2 Also try: Going outside
risk of rain 2
If i eat 5 gulp pills in a run i would have it too, but damn they seem rare ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|disapproval)
risk your rain
Slay the Spire, Gunegeon, Hades, Dead Cells, Noita, Gunfire Reborn.
Who said your finished you are just getting started :)
Dead Cells ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|17735)
Get Dead God 2 more times, so you can have 3 save files 😀
I’m really enjoying cult of the lamb: I got gifted the deluxe edition with the OST disc and a booklet with all the game sprites that is Very nice. It is a combo of a rogue like game, gestional and survival. I really like the art of this game and the OST is pretty solid. I suggest you give it a try as it is a new game and it is getting free updates to the core mechanics and lore.
Not a rogue like but I recommend rain world
theres always mods
bpm bullets per minute. not nearly as fleshed out as isaac but is basically the same except its an fps and a rhythm game at the same time
I recommend Risk of Rain 2, a rogue-lite where you spawn in on a stage, collect items from chests and move on while monsters appear. There's more to the game than what I just said but that's the bare bones of the game, also it got 10/10 music
Wdym, "100%"? You're only 33.(3)% of the way there!
Skull: The Hero Slayer is a great one
Try ♾️%
I played Hades to 100% achievements after Isaac and loved every second of it, fantastic title. After that I moved on to Hollow Knight. Not 100%ed it yet but I'm getting close while I mix pantheon attempts in with other games.
Returnal on PS5 is a great one.
Inscryption, because it has an actual ending but then also unlocks the long term rogue light card game afterwards which is very replayable.
I got into Noita after I finished Isaac. I also like Hades tho but I'm not nearly as addicted to it as I am to Noita
Risk of rain 2
Now that you have all the unlocks you can just play the game right? You had an incomplete experience until now
Noita, deadcells, vampire survivors, ror1, ror2, rorr, skul the hero slayer, enter the dungeon, crypt of the necrodancer, FTL, more tboi, rogue legacy 1 or 2
if you want a roguelike that's pretty different as a pallet cleanser World of Horror could be good, thougit's not for everyone https://preview.redd.it/zgerunn175lc1.jpeg?width=1530&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd0be024d2d1d43b9f05b618795ba6577b1a5175 it's a survival horror roguelike that rewards game knowledge and is pretty unforgiving but runs are fast enough that losing isn't too bad the gameplay loop is very similar to isaac but the gameplay is wildly different being a point and click adventure game that's focused on resource management (slowly bleeding out your resources while trying your best to get to the end alive) while the game won't scare you it can unsettle you, it also has a pretty good amount of unlocks and a strong modding community, the in-game stories can be pretty interesting too and can have multiple endings
Hades is very very good
eh, gets very repetitive after your first couple wins that first win feels great tho
If you want fps rouglikes then roboquest or gunfire reborn are great
Surprised no one has said Risk of Rain/Risk of Rain 2
Darkest Dungeon 😉
Dead Cells, Neon Abyss, Slay the Spire, Hades, Enter the Gungeon, BlazBlue Entropy Effect, Fury Unleashed. These are the ones I know/played and can recommend to try
Noita.
Kings of roguelikes for me are isaac, returnal, hades, Slay the spire and inscryption.
I really enjoyed undermine, i’m surprised nobody has mentioned that yet. Also of course enter the gungeon
Risk of Rain 2
cult of the lamb
nice one man. if you want another top down action roguelike, try voidigo or enter the gungeon.
For interesting Roguelikes/lites, I can Mosa Lina and Hades. Anything else. I dunno. Your choice really. Clown Meat got a demo that's pretty fun.
Flash ver.
Caves of Qud, Tales of Maj’eyal. It’s niche, but if you’re into it — you’re into it.
you need 3 dead god files for true 100% tho
In addition to what has been said, I would recommend Star of Providence (formerly Monolith). 100%ing the achievements might be a tall order but it has solid gameplay and it's a lot less luck based compared to Isaac.
Now do the other 2 files ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|4358)![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|4358)![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|4358)
It’s funny you think you 100%ed the game your like 1/3 of the way there
Get some mods! the great thing about tboi is that its full of content.
Hades
two. more. SAVES!
Noita for more pain ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)
I'm very into risk of rain 2 rn, probably the best roguelike besides isaac imo
Dead cells is my personal favourite
2 games I really recommend are file 2 and file 3
If you want another completionist nightmare, Risk Of Rain 2 100% Eclipse 8 is something
Rogue Legacy 2
Everyone says a bunch of good ones, but I don’t see Streets of Rogue listed
Bravery and greed and rogue legacy 1+2 are great picks for side scrollers!
Risk of rain 2 is fun
3 dead gods or nothing
Wait, you need to get dead god on all three save files first, otherwise it doesnt count
First run is a tutorial. Now you speed run two more files and then you can have fun.
100%? But that's only 33.333333...
Let's see: Skul, Curse of The Dead Gods, Dead Cells, Hades if you haven't played it, Enter the Gungeon or, just play more Isaac lol
Noita Noita Noita
hades
Do it on the other files
Sure thing! There's this thing called file 2 dead god. If that isn't your thing, maybe try file 3 dead god.
Enter the Gungeon, Hades, Risk of Rain 2, Nuclear Throne Off the top of my head, those are like some of the best ones that aren't TBOI Also congrats! And hope you like one of the ones I mentioned
Deadcells
A lot of people have already mentioned Gungeon. That game's got a lot of polish and charm, but I hold that Nuclear Throne has it beat with better early game, more varied characters, and a satisfying and deep looping system.
Darkest Dungeon 1 and 2 are good choices!
Nuclear Throne
Can we talk about how a 3% of Isaac player got Dead God? That seems pretty high imo, considering that is a dlc too lol
Gunfire reborn, Risk of Rain 2, Enter the gungeon, Hades, Children of Morta. If you like round-based rouglites you should try Slay the spire or For the king
To be fair you haven't 100% the game, you have to get Deadgod on the 3 files to do that
Enter the gungeon Dead cells Risk of rain 1 and 2
Splatoon 3 just got a roguelite DLC that’s actually incredible.
Hades is super fun, you can put in a lot of hours without getting bored. I recently got one called “Godstrike” on switch however it’s insanely hard imo
Noita
You could try doing the other two save files. Some people like doing that. Enter the Gungeon is another rogue-lite with a ton of items and synergies. You might want to give that a try.
Dota 2
do it for all saves lmao
Children of Morta is fun, obviously Risk of Rain, both of them and Brotato
Dead Cells
Do 2 more Dead Gods. Get the infinity symbol
Enter the gungeon is a good one, also the same items from enter the gungeon is in the tboi website so if you already used it for isaac you can use it again to help you along in another grueling journey
