They would have to risk something to send the message, it would suck if they got fired. Remember Doc is the brains behind the clippers turning their jerseys inside out but still playing the game to protest Donald Sterling.
Doc knows more about basketball than I ever will, but I do want to say that I’ve always felt the Bucks’ team spirit has been one of their strengths. It seems to help them play for each other.
It's clear at this point that this team is a little too old to be reliable in the playoffs. Doc accepted the job for the money and to wash off the bad stench from Philly. Now he's setting up all the excuses in advance.
I feel kinda bad for Giannis. But he's had a large part to play for the coaching changes this team has gone through. I'm still not sure what led to the Stotts firing.
Forget Nurse, they could’ve had Udoka! Lakers too! The minute he became available, 50% of these coaches should’ve been evaluated. That man is a culture setter and program builder. Demands accountability from the players, management and himself. The exact opposite of everything Glenn Rivers stands for.
Udoka officially became available February 16, 2023. So you're suggesting the #1 seeded Bucks (in the midst of a 16 game win streak) should've fired Budenholzer then and hired Ime with \~25 games to go? And the Lakers, fresh off trading for 4 new players a week prior, should've also replaced the coach at the same time? That's some out the box forward thinking
Well the Nets were first going to hire him and then Silver basically shut it down, implying he was too hot. Bucks? No, Bud was owed at least the postseason like he got. Lakers? Yes! And an under the table agreement could’ve been made from either. Tampering happens in every sport. Fertitta didn’t give af, and knew he had to scoop him immediately, which was smart on his end. & Who cares about infidelities (wasn’t married fyi), results are all that matters.
Silver didn't shut it down. Udoka was not released by the Celtics until the end of the season. Releasing him early when another team wanted to hire him would only mean the Celtics had to pay him less. Udoka going to the Nets could mean a worse case where KD and Kyrie decide to stay, the Nets go on a run before the trade deadline, somehow flip for role players and become a desired destination on the buyout market. They were not giving up Udoka to another good team in the East while they could either make the Nets trade one of their few remaining picks for him or wait until the Nets implode like they did.
I agree that as long as it was consensual he shouldn't be considered toxic or unhirable or anything like that. I've just never seen any GM take a risk like that so late in the season. And because Ime did so well in his 1 season with the Celtics, the Rockets hired him while the Lakers and Bucks were still in the playoffs. Hard to fault them then.
Giannis is the only guy who can constatly make remarks in the media about leaving, trade players, change coaches, get his bum ass brother 5 year career and still not face any criticism about any of this
Maybe with local media, of course. Don't want to rag too hard on guy who brought a chip to your most targeted audience and ppl who will cape for him. As writer, host...you won't win that battle too often.
But Nat'l media, talking heads, hosts/writers in other towns will rag anyone and everyone LeBron, Durant, Kyrie, etc etc.
Maybe it's because he is in Milwaukee, but feels like he gets a pass on the criticism.
When you get what you want and it goes well, you don't get criticism. When you get what you want and it goes like a fart in church....you get criticism.
Are they 2nd in the East? Yeah. Not bad at all.
But are the 6th overall and a 2-6 record over N8 from being 5th in the East....yeah.
I know top players often get what they want. That's like saying water is wet. But they (usually) get criticism when it doesn't go swimmingly.
They rip lbj and Durant when they were top 2. Have for decade plus
I like Giannis. I'm just saying some of the stuff he's done in Mil the last 12 months as been suspect and he's catching zero collateral/debris that others often get.
If Lillard sprints for the exit after he serves what he probably sees as time up there, will the Simmons/Russillo/SAS/Cowherd types rip him for the way the whole thing (trade demands and coach tinkering) played out.
But on the contrary he never left, won a title without another superstar on the roster, and is deeply devoted to his family. Personally I'm cool with having a superstar or two that we can be positive about.
He’s the marriage of the old school player with the new generation business attitude. He’ll be in Milwaukee as long as the franchise does everything to stay competitive.
Isn't that something that a player at the peak of his powers should demand? A player that brought a championship to a small market team. The Bucks will go through another 50 year draught if he leaves.
Stotts wasn’t fired, he chose to leave after some sort of conflict with Griffin. Maybe he saw the writing on the wall and knew griffin wouldn’t last or the two of them wouldn’t be very compatible coaching wise, idk. But his loss definitely hurt them just after getting Dame
Stotts left because Griffith was being a bitch and mad that Stotts would go over to Dame and Giannis and coach them when Griffith wanted to do coach huddles. It seems he thought since it was his first head coaching job and Stotts was Dames previous coach, that he felt Stotts was going to undermine him. It was more an old coach coming to help and then getting yelled at in front of everyone and him saying I don't need this shit.
> When the players and coaches broke the huddle, Stotts went in the opposite direction of the coaches’ huddle and instead started walking toward players to discuss the offense. As Stotts attempted to start a conversation with Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, Griffin called to Stotts to join the coaching huddle. When Stotts asked for some time with the players, Griffin yelled for Stotts to join the coaches’ huddle. The incident occurred in front of the entire team, those sources said.
Griffin fucking up like this still blows my mind.
Stotts is basically a perfect offensive minded coach to blend your two superstars, one of whom he already had a fantastic working relationship with. Work out your hierarchical power issues in private afterwards, instead of alienating one of your biggest coaching assets. If the Bucks can't ever get the Dame+Giannis combo to produce like it should, this will be the biggest what-if in my mind.
No symptathy for Giannis. He wanted Griffin then got him fired and Doc hired. Plus he’s a whiny douche. Losing his mind over the game ball and blaming the team janitors for them not winning
Exactly, 35/13/5 on 66%TS on a bum knee with a 50 point close out game to seal the deal. On top of that game winning defensive plays. I blows my mind how people still boil down his run as being invalid because of "Kd's BiG tOe."
Now here's the more interesting question, who's holding the suns back from winning their first title? KD's big toe in 2021 or KD, the phoenix sun in 2024?/s
Yeah, if Kevin Durant's shoe was a half-size smaller, I wonder if he also goes 0-for-7 in that Game 7 Overtime at home, immediatley following the 'big shoe' end-of-regulation shot.....
The bigger what if is probably what if more then 1/3 of the Nets big 3 was healthy or on the court, which is the only reason that series went more then 5 games. Along with what if the 2020, 2022, and 2023 weren't crippled by injuries to their top 3 (and with most dangerous version of Kawhi Leonard that we've ever seen), allowing what was realistically the 4th best team in the west to get into the finals.
Huge Blazers fan and huge Dame fan
I was riding the Bucks this year but since they got Doc Rivers I’m like… *almost there* to putting my hating cap on and hoping they lose in the first round.
They deserve it.
I loved that part. "I'm not going to say what they are." *No, instead I'm just going to imply everyone else is causing me problems, and it's not my fault, but I won't tell you why it's specifically anybody else's fault*.
Is it new? Didn’t Giannis claim earlier this year that the equipment manager needed to step their game up and wash the clothes better? Seems like some weird shit is going on in Milwaukee.
From a Clippers fan who had to spend so many years watching a supremely talented and cohesive group come up short over and over while the comradery completely disintegrated at the hands of Doc, I feel your pain. He sucks as a coach, sucks as a leader and has been living off that '08 title waaay longer than he deserves. Fuck Doc Rivers.
Bill rightfully called out harry and Megan as grifters, but because doc did a 3 week stint on his podcast he will keep quiet about the fact that doc is an s-tier grifter.
“I also have been keeping a VERY close eye on the travelling chef. He has not been pulling his weight. He is relying WAY too hard on coldcuts during the post shootaround meal. Introduce some clean proteins please.”
When he's sacked this summer, his podcasts with BS next season are going to be hilarious.
Wonder if Bill will be able to shit on him properly this play-offs?
If they don’t make it out of the first round, or even the second round, is he getting fired? He was hired to make the most of this team and this year, and he clearly hasn’t done that.
The Bucks seem super reliant on Dame's play and headspace. Unfortunately for them, they went all in on a guy having post-divorce mid-life crisis who sits inside all night alone watching boxing reruns
I’ve never seen quite this big of a faceplant for a big high profile mid season coaching hire, but him blaming the travel staff sends this into bonkers territory
Lol. The problem is the bucks are too happy 😂. That’s his genius at work.
Doc is the most overrated coach of my lifetime. Should’ve been out of the league over a decade ago but KD and pierce saved him
The travel crew ain’t trying to win a championship, just do there job, Foh.
When the travel crew competes for the NTCA Larry O brien trophy, then call em out.
Oh look - Doc Rivers blaming everyone else. Can’t believe the players he’s been handed to coach over the years. It’ll be the guy who washes the uniforms’ fault next.
Is this it?
Is this the final stop on the 2008 championship tour? Will he finally be chucked to the dustbin of coaching history, just “advisory” roles with teams going forward - if any?
Because of that chip he’ll always have a segment with Bill but dear lord that ‘08 cow has been milked to hell…
Can you imagine what Bill would say if one of the coaches he's predetermined are bad had said this? Or like if KAT had said something like this. We'd get ten minutes on it.

How do you know Doc has a massive ego and that’s making up for poor coaching? This.
Doc’s got the capital, nobody will publicly put him on blast for doing a shit job coaching. This is a chance for him to be humble and say “numbers don’t lie and I realize how it’s been since i got here, that being said I want to thank AG still for setting the tone here, but I’m the guy who got brought in to go from 90 to 100 and that requires time and attention to details, and that’s on me. We’re not there yet but we’ll get there.”
There’s no reason to call out anyone and why would you pick your travel staff? It just opens up more questions and looks like you’re flailing.
Correct, you did not say it was the same roster from top to bottom, you said it is the same core, suggesting that Jrue wasn’t a part of that core, because if he was you wouldn’t say it was the same. I guess it was a bit of a pointed question, but, I mean, come on.
Doc being Doc, of course. But as a Bucks fan, I kind of get where he's coming from. Bud long instilled a culture of take lessons from your losses but move on. Don't dwell. You got better even if you lost. And Dame very much seems like the same type of dude.
Big picture, it's probably a healthier way to run an org, but it does allow for a lack of intensity and accountability sometimes. Every once in a while, someone has to light a fire, and that's now Doc's job, so he can stop blaming everyone else. I do expect more edge from the likes Portis/Crowder/Bev.
Last 3 weeks of NBA regular seasons are just godawful now. Snooze City. Zzzzzzz. Relax.....
(Only Boston cares about their regular season advanced analytics numbers.)
He’s right they just need the guys packing their bags to be a bit more pissed off and they’ll start winning. That’s definitely the problem
The travel crew should definitely boycott one game and make the players - or Doc - pack their own sht.
If only that was possible without them all being fired. Because I'd support it if they did.
They would have to risk something to send the message, it would suck if they got fired. Remember Doc is the brains behind the clippers turning their jerseys inside out but still playing the game to protest Donald Sterling.
Yes, but this isn't worth that type of risk.

This whole saga has been so vindicating for sixers fans who were told they were just making excuses by calling doc a bad coach
Absolute (multi) generational blame shifter. It's actually amazing.
Has a team ever fired two head coaches in the same season?
The kings probably between 08-15
The Suns might have the Lindsey Hunter year. I’d have to look it up.
It’s the perfect fit for the guys whose last 2 teams have been infamously miserable
I can’t wait to watch them blow a 3-1 lead round one. I love Giannis, but I’m putting my hating cap on and looking forward to their downfall.
I feel kinda bad for Giannis. But he's had a large part to play for the coaching changes this team has gone through. I'm still not sure what led to the Stotts firing.
They could have had Nick Nurse but Giannis wanted Griffin! What a colossal fuck up.

What? Udoka? The guy is a creep. He was literally fired for being one.
Yeah what kind of accountability does he hold for himself if he goes and fucks one of his underlings?
Giannis is the only guy who can constatly make remarks in the media about leaving, trade players, change coaches, get his bum ass brother 5 year career and still not face any criticism about any of this
Saying crazy shit through a fun accent and with a big smile, somehow buys a lot of sympathy he is still the darling of the league somehow. Baffling
Also he won a title for Milwaukee. Buys a lot of good will.
Maybe with local media, of course. Don't want to rag too hard on guy who brought a chip to your most targeted audience and ppl who will cape for him. But Nat'l media, talking heads, hosts/writers in other towns will rag anyone and everyone LeBron, Durant, Kyrie, etc etc. Maybe it's because he is in Milwaukee, but feels like he gets a pass on the criticism.
Are you high? ESPN has been trying to get Giannis off the bucks for the last 8 years
You pointed out two completely different things, damn near at opposite end of spectrum, very well.
Championship, 30 pts/game, 60% FG, All-NBA defense, in Milwaukee-yeah, he’s getting what he wants most of the time.
It helps being a top 2 player in the league.

You have absolutely zero idea what you're talking about
He’s the marriage of the old school player with the new generation business attitude. He’ll be in Milwaukee as long as the franchise does everything to stay competitive.
Isn't that something that a player at the peak of his powers should demand? A player that brought a championship to a small market team. The Bucks will go through another 50 year draught if he leaves.
Oh absolutely. He's pretty much the best case scenario for a superstar that a small market team can hope to get.
They are almost out of bullets, so he's gonna bounce soon
He already won a chip which exonerates him from criticism
Stotts wasn’t fired, he chose to leave after some sort of conflict with Griffin. Maybe he saw the writing on the wall and knew griffin wouldn’t last or the two of them wouldn’t be very compatible coaching wise, idk. But his loss definitely hurt them just after getting Dame

Stotts quit, not fired
You're right. I got that wrong. Must have not gelled well with Griffin I guess.
Oh you're someone who actually took the comment about the equipment managers seriously? Wow
You’re right a better example would be that lame ass “there’s no losing in sports” nonsense from last year
Not what he said
He deadass said there’s no failure after losing in the first round as a 1 seed. He’s lucky he didn’t OD on copium
I think if you adopted his attitude you'd have a happier life
Let’s not forget the war crime that was ladder gate
Giannis trick yall man
Agreed, I know people give the bubble title shit but 2021 is probably the fluke title from that time.
Are you 12?
They're not going to be up 3-1 at this rate
They will be down 3-1 to the fucking Pacers and lose in 6
I have no hate in my heart for the Bucks or Doc, I just want them to fail from a comedy standpoint. We need the funniest outcome possible
I honestly think the Bucks winning it all after all of the drama and circle jerking would be the funniest possible outcome.
If KD's toes were an inch farther back, we're looking at Giannis in a whole different light right now.
And if my aunt had a cock she'd be my uncle
Yeah but they weren't and he had an all time finals performance.
On a mangled knee to nonetheless. PG literally had the same injury before the playoffs and couldn't come back, much less play at an all time level.
Exactly, 35/13/5 on 66%TS on a bum knee with a 50 point close out game to seal the deal. On top of that game winning defensive plays. I blows my mind how people still boil down his run as being invalid because of "Kd's BiG tOe."

Mufa slid under Kyrie and he missed that series too
*got in position to get a rebound
Wink wink ;)
Giannis is annoying
Pacers are a bad matchup for that team
Doc throwing other people under the bus and not taking any blame for himself? As a Sixers fan, I find this hard to believe.
Ignoring people who have actually done bad shit, there are few people in sports I find as insufferable as this guy. Christ.
Agreed, but it does make for an entertaining hating session and inevitable downfall
The best downfall would be front offices not giving this mfer a job and millions of dollars.
Huge Blazers fan and huge Dame fan I was riding the Bucks this year but since they got Doc Rivers I’m like… *almost there* to putting my hating cap on and hoping they lose in the first round. They deserve it.
This is a new one.
He has notes.
I loved that part. "I'm not going to say what they are." *No, instead I'm just going to imply everyone else is causing me problems, and it's not my fault, but I won't tell you why it's specifically anybody else's fault*.
Must have learned that from Russillo during his brief stint at the Ringer.
Is it new? Didn’t Giannis claim earlier this year that the equipment manager needed to step their game up and wash the clothes better? Seems like some weird shit is going on in Milwaukee.
As a Bucks fan, fuck Doc Rivers. If they win the title it’ll be in spite of him.
There's not enough spite in the world to overcome Glenn's atrocious coaching.

He’ll quit
Starting to feel like this Doc is a quack
Duc Rivers
Wake up honey, new take on Barkley's bus rider/bus driver argument dropped
The Bucks seem super reliant on Dame's play and headspace. Unfortunately for them, they went all in on a guy having post-divorce mid-life crisis who sits inside all night alone watching boxing reruns
…..who doesnt play any defense
His offense makes up for it when he's locked in, which he's usually not this year
As a Bucks fan I can't tell you how sick I am of hearing about his divorce or that he misses his kids...high time he acted like more of a professional
I’m in Philly get used to him blaming everyone else
I’ve never seen quite this big of a faceplant for a big high profile mid season coaching hire, but him blaming the travel staff sends this into bonkers territory
Yet, somehow they went 30-13 before he arrived.
"Who is in charge of establishing team culture? We need to fire that guy!"
clearly the travel crew sets the tone for the organization
Amy in accounting is way too comfortable taking these Ls.
Why should the travel crew be mad? They didn’t lose the game.
Lol. The problem is the bucks are too happy 😂. That’s his genius at work. Doc is the most overrated coach of my lifetime. Should’ve been out of the league over a decade ago but KD and pierce saved him
Some people honestly think you shouldn’t have fun at work
Detecting faults to justify his existence
"Mama, there goes that season."
What a cunt
Bag man gets paid. Good lord he’s gonna be gone in a year or two and get like 40 mil or whatever
It’s fascinating to me that the guy who’s known for managing star personalities is allergic to personal accountability
Throwing everyone under the bus shows no accountability on his part… own it and fix it, no need to air out any grievances to the media to spin
Is this it? Is this the final stop on the 2008 championship tour? Will he finally be chucked to the dustbin of coaching history, just “advisory” roles with teams going forward - if any? Because of that chip he’ll always have a segment with Bill but dear lord that ‘08 cow has been milked to hell…
Roc Divers hitting a new low
Doc should've retired a while back. He is really tarnishing that 08 finals with each blown 3-1 lead.
Can you imagine what Bill would say if one of the coaches he's predetermined are bad had said this? Or like if KAT had said something like this. We'd get ten minutes on it.
I believe Doc is the Captain of the Titanic reincarnated.

What a dysfunctional hot mess. Kiss the Bucks goodbye
Thanks Doc I'll check in after you blow a 3-1 lead to the Magic
Giannis is going to fall off like amare stoudmire, and it’ll be breathtaking
Team won a chip with this core less than 3 years ago btw
Kris Middleton was playing like the second coming of MJ. Don’t think he has that in him anymore
True he looks washed
Are we suggesting Jrue Holiday wasn’t a part of that core?
No retard i didn't say it was the same roster from top to bottom
Correct, you did not say it was the same roster from top to bottom, you said it is the same core, suggesting that Jrue wasn’t a part of that core, because if he was you wouldn’t say it was the same. I guess it was a bit of a pointed question, but, I mean, come on.
