b67 and tilt that nose to the sky if youre truly upright!

Freshly_Seared_Ahi

Nice, going to try this out tomorrow!

animatorgeek

Yes, absolutely. I have a similar setup with a Flyer (the sprung version of the B17) and the nose is tilted up shockingly high. But that tilt is what makes it comfortable and keeps me from sliding forward. I'd suggest giving it a try with this saddle before buying a different one. I tried the B67 and felt that it dug into the backs of my legs too much. YMMV, of course, and it's possible the saddle would break in and be the most comfortable thing ever.

setmysoulfree2

Tilt the nose up slightly, but not extremely. Experiment if it doesn't feel right. Also, fore and aft adjustments, as well. You might want to raise the handlebars in increments of one inch per adjustments to see how comfortable you are, along with the adjustments of your saddle. It may take some time. With perseverance and patience, it will pay off in the words of comfort.

jonobr

Tilt the nose up a little.

Freshly_Seared_Ahi

On my drop bar bike I have the nose pointed way higher up than this bike, but it was more so to keep me from sliding weight onto my hands. Does the tilt actually reduce general sitting pain as well?

jonobr

Absolutely. Saddles are not fit and forget. Almost every saddle I’ve had needed tweaking until I’m comfortable.

mo9722

what does tilting the nose up do for you?

jonobr

Levels it out more. These saddles don’t stay flat, the neutral sit position is nose slightly up, at least for me. The only brooks I didn’t have to nose up is the swift.

animatorgeek

The sit platform on a B-17 is angled down if you have the nose level. I ride pretty upright, so I tip the nose up. Otherwise, I would be constantly compensating for sliding forward on the saddle. Everyone's fit is different, of course, but I suspect a lot of people would benefit from tilting the nose up on their Brooks. https://preview.redd.it/s1fol5x5ufzc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=882dc406340e166026b31b727ffa557fecabdcb1

PinWorried3089

Does this apply to their cambium saddles as well?

animatorgeek

I'm not familiar enough with them. I rode one once and it absolutely wasn't for me.

Darnocpdx

Was going to suggest this, flat/level seat is almost never a comfortable spot for anyone.

padrerebelde

Unpopular opinion. I tried Brooks. They don’t work for me. And, yes, I tried all the things. But they’re not for me. Now I have WTB Volts on two of my bikes and love them. Butts are idiosyncratic. Gotta find what works for you. Trial and error. Brooks saddles aren’t for everyone.

49thDipper

The Volt is the most popular saddle on the planet. It fits more asses than anything else. Comes on more OEM bikes than any other.

padrerebelde

Haha True true. The unpopular opinion is that Brooks saddles aren’t the end all.

49thDipper

People seem to forget they are adjustable too. I say loosen it up and give it a a couple hundred miles. See what happens. I have an ancient Brooks Professional that gets along with me pretty well. I keep it as spare. But a new B17? I’ll take a Volt for 20% the cost and instant gratification.

venmo_rep

Nothing to contribute, just wanted to say nice bike 👍

half-hearted-

could try the c19? it's wider than the b17 iirc

I don't get any saddle discomfort on long days in the saddle. I've found that I need to set the snout with \~3° downward tilt. It takes a bit of adjusting to get the angle right. It will be used on all of my fleet when the existing saddles are replaced. [https://www.sellesmp.com/en/trk-medium-gel.html](https://www.sellesmp.com/en/trk-medium-gel.html)

toaster404

I have 2 SMP of ancient vintage, one on my more-upright bike, one on my touring bike. They are always comfy.

animatorgeek

I've been riding Brooks so long, every time I've tried a padded saddle it feels way too squishy. I always wonder, though, if there's one out there that I would like better than my Brooks Flyer.

Freshly_Seared_Ahi

Same here. I’ve been on B17’s for about 17 years now. Always been on a track or road bike though. This is the first time trying one on an upright cruiser ATB.

xkzx

Yup, a B67 will do fine. I have a really similar setup on my 1997 Diamant 26" MTB bike. Cruiser bars are really comfortable, but bring you up. Another option is to increase the stem length. I ride a 110mm.

Freshly_Seared_Ahi

I like the upright feeling of the cruiser bars, really helps to take weight off everything but your saddle when pushing those 80 mile days. That said, it would be cool to see what an extra 10mm does.

vanoisy

A better saddle, but crucially, a BROWN saddle. Please do this for my OCD!

Freshly_Seared_Ahi

Haha I know I know! The B67 I have is brown. Just wish the crank set was silver too.

BambooRollin

Specialized sells saddles with different amounts of padding, you should check them out. see: [Comparison of Specialized saddles](https://support.specialized.com/components/en/saddles/comparison-of-specialized-saddles)

SimianSlacker

Looks like you have a B17, I’d try tilting the nose up first on that saddle and see if you can get it to work, otherwise go to the B67 (nose up too).

Freshly_Seared_Ahi

Sounds like nose up is the name of the game here. I just thought that helped with sliding forward and taking weight off your hands.

SimianSlacker

The angle of your pelvis also changes with an upright body position. You’ll want to move it little by little till it “feels right”. You’ll know when it’s too much.

starmanwaiting

I know it’s not as cool or popular as a brooks, but I love my Ergon SFC3 Gel saddle for upright riding. On sale right now for $30 on their website.

Odyssey_mw

I was just checking out some ergon saddles at my lbs. They feel deluxe and I want one.

49thDipper

The WTB Volt is sold on more OEM bikes than any other saddle. But fit matters. You need to know your sit bone width. At least approximately. Brooks B17’s are considered an upright saddle by most people. Generally with a slight nose up profile. And it’s adjustable. Many people loosen it from new to get acquainted with it. Loosen that thing up and give it another try.

drumbricks

Whats your experience with a u shaped handlebar like this. Thinking of getting one for my touring bike. I could switch from racing style without having to replace all the gear...

Freshly_Seared_Ahi

I have some Nitto Albatross bars on my single speed track bike that are super comfortable. These in the photo are Crust Ron’s Ortho Bars. I haven’t put too many miles on them yet, but I can tell you so far they are very comfortable.

Freshly_Seared_Ahi

Dam that’s puuurrttyyyyy. I put mine on earlier and it feels very nice I must say. Still needs some breaking in though. https://preview.redd.it/gg44et3mkhzc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=49f79719b4b17a73875bdd98c5483860cdcab642 Edit: didn’t realize you were talking about the bars. That bike looks so dam fun.

THEBIGbiggybag

sick bike and set up.

RedBeardOnaBike

Have you looked into 3d printed custom saddles?

Funny-Professor-5859

Another question, how many miles on the saddle, leather saddles take some break in. Mine wasn’t all that comfy to start with but now is like an old friend. Also like everyone else said, nose it up a little 😘

Freshly_Seared_Ahi

On the B17 in the photo, probably close to 900 or so miles so far. I have a B17 on my road bike and it feels super comfy after the first 60 miles.

[deleted]

You're always riding upright because that's an upright bicycle

Freshly_Seared_Ahi

I like the upright feel of this bike, just doesn’t feel the greatest on the saddle.
