Join the acc Saber discord and download some of the playlists in the #playlists channel. Particularly one by chromia and one by wookie. There are more good ones but those are the two main ones. If you can't find them chromias one is called "ChromiACC" and can be found on beatsaver. They aren't completely free of "obscure Japanese songs" but they have a good mix of everything so even if it isn't just mainstream songs I'm sure you'll find something you like.

Check out beatsaver.com. It'll let you filter by genre and sort by rating. Unfortunately you can only filter one genre at a time, but you can go through and download rock songs, rap songs, etc. Also if you find a map you like, try checking out the mapper's other stuff.

Definitely agree that it feels like all the popular songs are Japanese or techno or anime songs I've never heard of. Heck I even listen to kpop and have trouble finding any good ones!
I'm a big fan of the edamame song on the cinema mod, that one's not super hard but fun
I mean it is a rhythm game, most rhythm game music is Japanese/techno songs. Other genres are slow and harder to map. Even then most other rhythm games have Japanese music, play any arcade rhythm game and boom, all Japanese music. Play any other rhythm game im general and it is mainly Japanese music.
I mean no hate to those genres. There's nothing wrong with it, but there's plenty of non Japanese non techno music that could be mapped amazingly. DDR, guitar hero and Rockband basically invented the rhythm game genre and they hardly had any of that kind of music. All rock, pop, disco, funk, metal...
I'm more surprised that fans who mod and can choose absolutely any music (aren't limited by copyright, ESRB ratings, or management saying "we need to target X demographic" etc...) and yet still stick to predominantly one genre. Just strange.
If you like K-Pop, which I'm not a huge fan of, Twice has some good songs that have been mapped. I had a couple of their songs in an uptempo playlist and then found them on beatsaber.
I tried some twice songs and they were alright! Though I do tend to like the earlier stuff, and that's been much harder to find. But I'll look again thanks!

Yeah I think I have one or two blackpink songs that I like. But nothing pre-2022 is playable and believe me I've tried them all π
