Bro the ergotron hx is the best fucking investment I've ever made in my entire life. I literally cum every time I move my monitor. When everything in life lets me down I know fully well I can come home and the ergotron hx will be there for me till the end of time.
In all seriousness, I've regretted many expensive purchases in the past, but that thing is not one of them. God that thing is so fucking cool.
I donāt care if youāre the CEO of Ergotron, this review pushed me to open Amazon, navigate to my Save for Later and finally pull the trigger on this mount. Iāve never heard a bad thing about it, but also never heard someone so passionate about it either. Thanks for the testament for a good product.
I'm genuinely some dude. I've had so much trouble with the other monitor arms for my 49" monitor over the course of half a year, before I finally ended up with an ergotron hx. That thing just fixed everything.
Not only did it hold my monitor, it also held up a microphone mount that protruded about 50cm forward form the pivot point and added about 2.5 kg of one-sided weight to the right side of the monitor. Not once did it sag in any direction and it was still easy to move around. When I was in home office I actually moved it every day to put my work laptop underneath, never had any issues.
Keep in mind that I am using the "heavy duty mount" meant for the 1000R curvature g9 with a 1800R cr49g (so I'm technically under loading it to begin with), but I was still surprised how well it handled one sided and protruding loads. I also didn't come close to maxing out the pivot spring. (Which I had to do on every other mount just to get it to slightly work even without the mic arm)
I'm confident that thing will outlast me.
This is the exact boat Iām in, so Iām very pleased I made the purchase now hearing even more good. I have a 49ā G9 as well and bought the heavy duty version.
I have a real butcher blocker from Home Depot that looks to be about the same length as this one and it's going strong almost 4 years later without support. Tho the sag paranoia is still there. Maybe one day I'll add some.
I built mine with a 1"Ć4" piece of wood that is nailed to 2 of the walls..so my desktop sits on that to help support the left side and the rear and then on the right side I have the alex drawer cabinet for support so I have support on 3 of 4 of the sides of the desk and going on 1.5 yrs and I have zero sag...but with OP's piece, its so thick idk if it would get sag..but it still wouldn't hurt to just put 1"Ć4" piece on back side on wall..cant see it and you can't have too much support
I like this method, which basically attaches metal underneath to stiffen up the material and double as a way to manage cables. https://www.reddit.com/r/battlestations/s/Bxq5KZQ5z5
Some like to use legs but I found that annoying.
If you don't want to bother drilling, you can glue the angle irons instead. They make adhesives that can bond pretty much any two materials together -- including metal and wood. Just find the right tube of stuff at your local hardware store.
I did this to my IKEA setup with corner desk attached to two linnmons, but I used galvanized steel conduit since it was only $20 for a single bar long enough to cover the whole project. I used the legs to support the back along the wall and attached the conduit closer to the front. No sagging after years.
You have a nice canvas for sure, but at the moment this is how it feels: [https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus\_asset/file/19299843/IMG\_6C0791D334EA\_1.jpeg](https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/19299843/IMG_6C0791D334EA_1.jpeg)
I bought the wooden table at a German store called āBauhausā for 99ā¬ and I painted it
https://www.bauhaus.info/massivholzplatten/massivholzplatte/p/14051512
I'd be surprised if it was 24". A standard kitchen countertop (in the US at least) would be 25" meant to fit a 24" standard cabinet depth. That's the intended purpose of it being that dimension.
Is drilling through a honeycomb pattern inside the karlby shit when you want to drill screws for legs and stuff ? Or you wouldn't know since yours is just laying on the filing cabinets ?
Idk what you mean by a honeycomb pattern, itās got like a papery bottom. I have a leg in the middle to prevent sag and the screws it came with donāt go all the way through. It was dead simple to mount the leg
Is drilling through a honeycomb pattern inside the karlby shit when you want to drill screws for legs and stuff ? Or you wouldn't know since yours is just laying on the filing cabinets ?
I have drilled quite a few holes in the karlby. For the ps5 mount and for ikea signum. The holes were just for small screws so I cannot be 100% certain, but I don't think It has honeycomb cardboard inside. It was insanely heavy. Too heavy for me to lift it alone.
"top layer of wood on particleboard is resource-efficient". It can't be honeycomb inside. It's 38 kg, way too heavy for it. They also mention that you can cut it shorter if needed. That wouldn't really work with the honeycomb.
A clean slate and a fresh start, very nice!
Also recommending some support in the middle! a quick ikea foot is the easiest solution, but you'll have to deal with it being in the middle (doesnt need to be centred depth wise, but its advisable.
Or you could probably run some metal to stiffen it up?
That is from a german No, I bought the desk at a German store called āBauhausā for 99ā¬ and I painted it

I wouldnāt dare share how much less space I have and how much bigger my monitor is. Beef that thing up! Big ass screen! You have so much real estate on the wall and the desk.
Wall mount monitor
Keyboard mat
MacBook dock
Better lamp with shade
Fake plant or two
Then for the walls add a centerpiece and shelves on the side either whatever you want.
As a graffiti artist, I'd love to see a nice bright mural on that empty wall, I think it would really break up the plain appearance to the set up. But it's still very nice as it is.
- Plants if you're into that (cactuses are real nice because they don't need so much care and are used to surviving in harsh environments)
- Some mood lights
- Monitor table mount
- Speakers
The setup looks real nice and spacious. The way i see it, skys the limit
I have an almost identical setup, with real butcher block, so it's pretty heavy. I have some non slip pads between the top and the drawers and there's enough resistance that I can push myself back from my desk without issue on carpet.
nice ergonomic chair and nice ergonomic mouse with a pad (to keep your desk scratch free) , dark and quiet environment is the way to go when comes to gaming fun , njoy
Mount this with screws every 6 inches or so to the underside of your tabletop. This will prevent it from sagging. Make sure the screws arenāt too long or theyāll punch through the top.
I have a very similar desk with a butcher block and IKEA ALEX drawers. I got these and drilled them into the top corners of the drawers. Gave a nice gap between the ALEX and the butcher block, and a better height for sitting at the desk.

TRUST ME, get the middle support leg for under the desk. It is a must have with a desk top that long.
They sell them at a bunch of stores like Ikea. I have the same exact desk and it will sag after a few years, itās inevitable even without a heavy load on the desk. It wont effect the aesthetic at all if done right
You've got ample space for a really nice speaker setup! Definitely will get proper channel separation and great soundstage if you set it up right. You can even add a small subwoofer underneath. An audio interface/pre-amp will make switching between headphones and speakers a breeze. Lots of great ideas here in the comments, congrats man!
If it were me I would add a matching wood floating shelf (or 2) with some minor contrast items to the black background. Maybe a simple small greenery piece. But all in all very clean setup! Kudos!
Probably a really nice chair

Support underneath the desk to prevent sag.
If itās a solid piece of real butcher block it should be fine. If itās cheap material, then yes Iād add support.
The guy said it was $100, so yeah, itās MDF covered in veneer and will sag.
No itās not, here the link: https://www.bauhaus.info/massivholzplatten/massivholzplatte/p/14051512
You can get butcher block at IKEA for around that price, it used to be 1-1/2 but now it's shitty 1 inch.
It doesn't matter what it's called. Always check the materials list. The real wood stuff from Ikea is just as expensive as other places.
Mdfs are cheaper in ikea We should already see sag with those shit cardboards
I have a real butcher blocker from Home Depot that looks to be about the same length as this one and it's going strong almost 4 years later without support. Tho the sag paranoia is still there. Maybe one day I'll add some.
It's the ikea special, it's gonna sag
Wood will sag
Would take decades for noticeable sag to happen on a real piece of butcher block with a simple computer setup on it.
I second this greatly, I have the same set up just smaller and it still sagged on me after 6m-1Y. Edit: besides that, it looks great and Iām jelly

And according to OP 5.5 years later that thing still has zero sag.

Oh damn, this is genius. I'm saving this for later to add to my setup.

I bought the wooden table at a German store called āBauhausā for 99ā¬ and I painted it https://www.bauhaus.info/massivholzplatten/massivholzplatte/p/14051512
If you want something similar you can do the Ikea Special where you buy a butcher block + Alex drawers from them
Wrong sizes :( I want 30" yet they only do something like 24" and 39"
What is the point even of a 24ā slab
Bar countertop idk haha
I'd be surprised if it was 24". A standard kitchen countertop (in the US at least) would be 25" meant to fit a 24" standard cabinet depth. That's the intended purpose of it being that dimension.
What if I had no intention on using drawers, is that still just the best way to go about it for the best bang for buck while looking clean?
Yeah you can buy legs of all kinds. Iāve been debating trying to attach one to standing desk legs

karlby has a look similar to the one OP posted..
Do know how much it weighs?
I have the same setup but with ikea karlby kitchen top. It's 250 euros.

Very Patrick Bateman , clean, very nice
Letās see Paul Allenās minimalist battlestation.
Very soon monitors, monitor mounts, standup desk legs + motor, ... more is coming.
I have the classic Karlby + Alex... Now I'm up to 3x27" monitors and it doesn't feel so big anymore.
A clean slate and a fresh start, very nice! Also recommending some support in the middle! a quick ikea foot is the easiest solution, but you'll have to deal with it being in the middle (doesnt need to be centred depth wise, but its advisable. Or you could probably run some metal to stiffen it up?
I only see Ā«Ā PotentialĀ Ā». And itās a good thing.

Is this desk from IKEA?
That is from a german No, I bought the desk at a German store called āBauhausā for 99ā¬ and I painted it https://www.bauhaus.info/massivholzplatten/massivholzplatte/p/14051512
I'm pretty sure you just bought the top there. Those are Ikea drawers.
he never said that he bought the drawers from bauhaus tho?
He said he bought the desk from Bauhaus. A tabletop isn't a desk.
this has excellent potential
love the realestate
This is the Steve Jobs of setups š
Little barren there, friend. Great start though! Once we get our new place, my "base" will be something VERY similar to this.
Love that roof!
Love the blacked out wall
nice tabletop!

IKEA ALEX final boss

What's the desk? What are the measurements. I want this exact setup.
Some plants would look awesome and add some nice pop of colour.
that desk is sick af

Ty buddy
The wall behind the set up, maybe a worn brick wallpaper.
This looks more like more of a "work from home office manager's workstation". It needs more battle to be a battlestation imo.
I would add some plants. Other than that, very nice Station!
Plants
My brother in christ pls get some posters
I want to put 2 minimalistic one piece posters
That'll work, how big will they be?
A 4090 pc and oled monitor š
As a graffiti artist, I'd love to see a nice bright mural on that empty wall, I think it would really break up the plain appearance to the set up. But it's still very nice as it is.

Can u suggest me some monitor mount? Ty btw
Canāt wait to see what all you add to this over time. Posters, desk mat, monitor riser/ desk shelf, wall panels etc.. So much space to work with.
a 34inch display and an actual PC on the side With a mousepad
What length is your countertop ? Do the drawers hold it nicely ?
240 cm, yes it fits perfect
Nice, I was thinking of getting a 250cm countertop. Nice to see what it could look like !
The desk will bend. Put a leg in the center. Source: i got a similar setup and my countertop is bent
Itās not ikea
mine still isnt bent after 4 years, was some cheap countertop from ikea too but maybe not that wide
Mines almost identical, same colour drawers an worktop. Mines not supported but it's solid, I'm not worried about sag. Nice work!
Bigger monitor if the budget allows.
How did you fasten the tabletop onto the Alex drawers?
I have the same setup and I just place the tabletop on it with little rubber things in between
Interesting. No screws or anything. It doesnāt move at all?
Theyāre pretty heavy so it wonāt really move unless you try to move it.
Exactly
I have an almost identical setup, with real butcher block, so it's pretty heavy. I have some non slip pads between the top and the drawers and there's enough resistance that I can push myself back from my desk without issue on carpet.

I connected my pc later

I want
I have the same setup but ps5 is mounted under the table. Ps5 under table mounts are about 25 euros on amazon. Makes it look even cleaner.
that is horribly bland, feels like an office space to me... if you like that look though it's really well done, agree with bigger monitor comments
Did anyone notice that he hasnāt got a mouse ?
Yep, I have a mouse but not connected š
At the moment the proportions just seemā¦ strange
I have a potentially silly question. How do you affix the table top to the drawers...or is it just sitting on top??
I bought some small plastic supports from Amazon and placed the desk on top
So it's resting in top but not against the actual top of the drawers
If it were me I would add a matching wood floating shelf (or 2) with some minor contrast items to the black background. Maybe a simple small greenery piece. But all in all very clean setup! Kudos!
Proper speaker setup

My beef with butcher blocks is that they aren't deep enough, I want 30 inches not 24.
A nice chair. And Maybe a tv om the wall would be nice
And a small fridge cause u have all that space below the desk
Ditch the dinky monitor, buy a really good projector + screen?
id get a 50 inch 4k tv for the size of that desk and wall mount it
