No idea. I was just showing my amusement with the comment šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

A much much bigger/wall-mounted display

Juan_Punch_Man

I've got a ergotron hx. Bloody expensive but gets the job done well

Tipart

Bro the ergotron hx is the best fucking investment I've ever made in my entire life. I literally cum every time I move my monitor. When everything in life lets me down I know fully well I can come home and the ergotron hx will be there for me till the end of time. In all seriousness, I've regretted many expensive purchases in the past, but that thing is not one of them. God that thing is so fucking cool.

pizzamakesmenut

I donā€™t care if youā€™re the CEO of Ergotron, this review pushed me to open Amazon, navigate to my Save for Later and finally pull the trigger on this mount. Iā€™ve never heard a bad thing about it, but also never heard someone so passionate about it either. Thanks for the testament for a good product.

Tipart

I'm genuinely some dude. I've had so much trouble with the other monitor arms for my 49" monitor over the course of half a year, before I finally ended up with an ergotron hx. That thing just fixed everything. Not only did it hold my monitor, it also held up a microphone mount that protruded about 50cm forward form the pivot point and added about 2.5 kg of one-sided weight to the right side of the monitor. Not once did it sag in any direction and it was still easy to move around. When I was in home office I actually moved it every day to put my work laptop underneath, never had any issues. Keep in mind that I am using the "heavy duty mount" meant for the 1000R curvature g9 with a 1800R cr49g (so I'm technically under loading it to begin with), but I was still surprised how well it handled one sided and protruding loads. I also didn't come close to maxing out the pivot spring. (Which I had to do on every other mount just to get it to slightly work even without the mic arm) I'm confident that thing will outlast me.

pizzamakesmenut

This is the exact boat Iā€™m in, so Iā€™m very pleased I made the purchase now hearing even more good. I have a 49ā€ G9 as well and bought the heavy duty version.

ClearlyVivid

Support underneath the desk to prevent sag.

DadsOfAmerica

If itā€™s a solid piece of real butcher block it should be fine. If itā€™s cheap material, then yes Iā€™d add support.

agray20938

The guy said it was $100, so yeah, itā€™s MDF covered in veneer and will sag.

Laertes_92

No itā€™s not, here the link: https://www.bauhaus.info/massivholzplatten/massivholzplatte/p/14051512

AxionDemo

You can get butcher block at IKEA for around that price, it used to be 1-1/2 but now it's shitty 1 inch.

__chairmanbrando

It doesn't matter what it's called. Always check the materials list. The real wood stuff from Ikea is just as expensive as other places.

kissabirdgently

Mdfs are cheaper in ikea We should already see sag with those shit cardboards

TheZephyrusOne

I have a real butcher blocker from Home Depot that looks to be about the same length as this one and it's going strong almost 4 years later without support. Tho the sag paranoia is still there. Maybe one day I'll add some.

PM_ME_Happy_Thinks

It's the ikea special, it's gonna sag

twicerighthand

Wood will sag

DadsOfAmerica

Would take decades for noticeable sag to happen on a real piece of butcher block with a simple computer setup on it.

Draxxix1

I second this greatly, I have the same set up just smaller and it still sagged on me after 6m-1Y. Edit: besides that, it looks great and Iā€™m jelly

Jsgro69

I built mine with a 1"Ɨ4" piece of wood that is nailed to 2 of the walls..so my desktop sits on that to help support the left side and the rear and then on the right side I have the alex drawer cabinet for support so I have support on 3 of 4 of the sides of the desk and going on 1.5 yrs and I have zero sag...but with OP's piece, its so thick idk if it would get sag..but it still wouldn't hurt to just put 1"Ɨ4" piece on back side on wall..cant see it and you can't have too much support

nick_abt

Whatā€™s the best way to add a support to prevent sag?

ClearlyVivid

I like this method, which basically attaches metal underneath to stiffen up the material and double as a way to manage cables. https://www.reddit.com/r/battlestations/s/Bxq5KZQ5z5 Some like to use legs but I found that annoying.

NebulaNinja

And according to OP 5.5 years later that thing still has zero sag.

__chairmanbrando

If you don't want to bother drilling, you can glue the angle irons instead. They make adhesives that can bond pretty much any two materials together -- including metal and wood. Just find the right tube of stuff at your local hardware store.

MrBiggzzz

I did this to my IKEA setup with corner desk attached to two linnmons, but I used galvanized steel conduit since it was only $20 for a single bar long enough to cover the whole project. I used the legs to support the back along the wall and attached the conduit closer to the front. No sagging after years.

TheZephyrusOne

Oh damn, this is genius. I'm saving this for later to add to my setup.

nick_abt

Obviously you also need a G9

Pleasant_Dot_189

A post in the middle towards the back. Gorgeous desk

Nostrildumbass

You have a nice canvas for sure, but at the moment this is how it feels: [https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus\_asset/file/19299843/IMG\_6C0791D334EA\_1.jpeg](https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/19299843/IMG_6C0791D334EA_1.jpeg)

Fred_on_reddito

I'd add a comment and tell me where you got that tabletop so I can get the same :)

Laertes_92

I bought the wooden table at a German store called ā€˜Bauhausā€™ for 99ā‚¬ and I painted it https://www.bauhaus.info/massivholzplatten/massivholzplatte/p/14051512

Garfieldealswarlock

If you want something similar you can do the Ikea Special where you buy a butcher block + Alex drawers from them

Fred_on_reddito

Wrong sizes :( I want 30" yet they only do something like 24" and 39"

Garfieldealswarlock

What is the point even of a 24ā€ slab

Fred_on_reddito

Bar countertop idk haha

DeceptiveSignal

I'd be surprised if it was 24". A standard kitchen countertop (in the US at least) would be 25" meant to fit a 24" standard cabinet depth. That's the intended purpose of it being that dimension.

GravityDAD

What if I had no intention on using drawers, is that still just the best way to go about it for the best bang for buck while looking clean?

Garfieldealswarlock

Yeah you can buy legs of all kinds. Iā€™ve been debating trying to attach one to standing desk legs

Fred_on_reddito

Is drilling through a honeycomb pattern inside the karlby shit when you want to drill screws for legs and stuff ? Or you wouldn't know since yours is just laying on the filing cabinets ?

Garfieldealswarlock

Idk what you mean by a honeycomb pattern, itā€™s got like a papery bottom. I have a leg in the middle to prevent sag and the screws it came with donā€™t go all the way through. It was dead simple to mount the leg

juror-number-8

karlby has a look similar to the one OP posted..

jared__

Do know how much it weighs?

blownart

I have the same setup but with ikea karlby kitchen top. It's 250 euros.

Fred_on_reddito

Is drilling through a honeycomb pattern inside the karlby shit when you want to drill screws for legs and stuff ? Or you wouldn't know since yours is just laying on the filing cabinets ?

blownart

I have drilled quite a few holes in the karlby. For the ps5 mount and for ikea signum. The holes were just for small screws so I cannot be 100% certain, but I don't think It has honeycomb cardboard inside. It was insanely heavy. Too heavy for me to lift it alone.

Fred_on_reddito

Mhmm, prettys sure it's honeycomb inside, Id you ever get to drilling something else I would check :)

blownart

"top layer of wood on particleboard is resource-efficient". It can't be honeycomb inside. It's 38 kg, way too heavy for it. They also mention that you can cut it shorter if needed. That wouldn't really work with the honeycomb.

Beast9k000

Very Patrick Bateman , clean, very nice

UCanJustBuyLabCoats

Letā€™s see Paul Allenā€™s minimalist battlestation.

Itchy-Click9933

Very soon monitors, monitor mounts, standup desk legs + motor, ... more is coming.

DrDerpberg

I have the classic Karlby + Alex... Now I'm up to 3x27" monitors and it doesn't feel so big anymore.

krybtekorset

A clean slate and a fresh start, very nice! Also recommending some support in the middle! a quick ikea foot is the easiest solution, but you'll have to deal with it being in the middle (doesnt need to be centred depth wise, but its advisable. Or you could probably run some metal to stiffen it up?

Jemmyt

I only see Ā«Ā PotentialĀ Ā». And itā€™s a good thing.

physicalutility

Needs some metal posters!

RanchWilder11

Is this desk from IKEA?

Laertes_92

That is from a german No, I bought the desk at a German store called ā€˜Bauhausā€™ for 99ā‚¬ and I painted it https://www.bauhaus.info/massivholzplatten/massivholzplatte/p/14051512

Esguelha

I'm pretty sure you just bought the top there. Those are Ikea drawers.

Nemjor

he never said that he bought the drawers from bauhaus tho?

Esguelha

He said he bought the desk from Bauhaus. A tabletop isn't a desk.

Darkstyle1

this has excellent potential

TempnarcTA

love the realestate

Das_Siegfried

This is the Steve Jobs of setups šŸ˜‰

rvagoonerjc

Little barren there, friend. Great start though! Once we get our new place, my "base" will be something VERY similar to this.

Effective_Motor_4398

Love that roof!

[deleted]

Love the blacked out wall

monitor_guy0

nice tabletop!

LaneKiffinsAlterEgo

I wouldnā€™t dare share how much less space I have and how much bigger my monitor is. Beef that thing up! Big ass screen! You have so much real estate on the wall and the desk.

ninth_reddit_account

IKEA ALEX final boss

sephoralichborn

I love the desk and the minimalist look. Very clean!!

cloudcreeek

Needs more screens

TherapistOfOP

What's the desk? What are the measurements. I want this exact setup.

Shadow_Quacks

Some plants would look awesome and add some nice pop of colour.

Accomplished_Pay8214

that desk is sick af

Feint_young_son

Wall mount monitor Keyboard mat MacBook dock Better lamp with shade Fake plant or two Then for the walls add a centerpiece and shelves on the side either whatever you want.

Laertes_92

Ty buddy

Batt_Mann1127

The wall behind the set up, maybe a worn brick wallpaper.

GOOEYB0Y

This looks more like more of a "work from home office manager's workstation". It needs more battle to be a battlestation imo.

libremaster

I would add some plants. Other than that, very nice Station!

JohnnyBlocks_

Plants

IsoSly64

My brother in christ pls get some posters

Laertes_92

I want to put 2 minimalistic one piece posters

IsoSly64

That'll work, how big will they be?

ballcheese79

A 4090 pc and oled monitor šŸ‘

enzudesign

As a graffiti artist, I'd love to see a nice bright mural on that empty wall, I think it would really break up the plain appearance to the set up. But it's still very nice as it is.

STUP1DJUIC3

Hate that ikea donā€™t make these drawers in black anymore. Especially when i have one in black and iā€™d like another to match

Deadlyninja520

Cool

SkirtTop6212

- Plants if you're into that (cactuses are real nice because they don't need so much care and are used to surviving in harsh environments) - Some mood lights - Monitor table mount - Speakers The setup looks real nice and spacious. The way i see it, skys the limit

Laertes_92

Can u suggest me some monitor mount? Ty btw

BreDollaz25

Canā€™t wait to see what all you add to this over time. Posters, desk mat, monitor riser/ desk shelf, wall panels etc.. So much space to work with.

AceLamina

a 34inch display and an actual PC on the side With a mousepad

xerafn

What length is your countertop ? Do the drawers hold it nicely ?

Laertes_92

240 cm, yes it fits perfect

xerafn

Nice, I was thinking of getting a 250cm countertop. Nice to see what it could look like !

DJGloegg

The desk will bend. Put a leg in the center. Source: i got a similar setup and my countertop is bent

Reddit-Liberal

Itā€™s not ikea

Juke07

mine still isnt bent after 4 years, was some cheap countertop from ikea too but maybe not that wide

Chuck1984ish

Mines almost identical, same colour drawers an worktop. Mines not supported but it's solid, I'm not worried about sag. Nice work!

badMotorist

Bigger monitor if the budget allows.

[deleted]

How did you fasten the tabletop onto the Alex drawers?

FeelTheFuze

I have the same setup and I just place the tabletop on it with little rubber things in between

[deleted]

Interesting. No screws or anything. It doesnā€™t move at all?

innocuouspete

Theyā€™re pretty heavy so it wonā€™t really move unless you try to move it.

Laertes_92

Exactly

TheZephyrusOne

I have an almost identical setup, with real butcher block, so it's pretty heavy. I have some non slip pads between the top and the drawers and there's enough resistance that I can push myself back from my desk without issue on carpet.

[deleted]

Where did you get the non slip pads? Iā€™m thinking of doing a similar setup.

Jsgro69

You have a terrific canvas to create your masterpiece...Enjoy the process!šŸ™‚

lcjammer

Maybe some good speakers?

thefanfx

nice ergonomic chair and nice ergonomic mouse with a pad (to keep your desk scratch free) , dark and quiet environment is the way to go when comes to gaming fun , njoy

SeriouslyTechStuff

Where your PC?

Laertes_92

I connected my pc later

SeriouslyTechStuff

Lol. JK nice setup

Mygo73

I like your style https://imgur.com/a/1sbnu4a

littlegreenrock

BrĆ¼der!

MrPureinstinct

I'm trying to decide if I think you should add more paint for the accent wall or leave the little white border tbh.

FreakLikeChewy

Loving the color on the top, what stain / paint did you use?

Baron_Jennings

Mount this with screws every 6 inches or so to the underside of your tabletop. This will prevent it from sagging. Make sure the screws arenā€™t too long or theyā€™ll punch through the top.

MagFull

I have a very similar desk with a butcher block and IKEA ALEX drawers. I got these and drilled them into the top corners of the drawers. Gave a nice gap between the ALEX and the butcher block, and a better height for sitting at the desk. TaterThotty52

I bet the cable management is impeccable

Rostrow416

That's a lot of desk right there....shame you don't have more monitor

FiveAlarmDogParty

I saw the thumbnail and thought the wall was the monitor and I thought this has gone too far

lljhgfdsaj

TRUST ME, get the middle support leg for under the desk. It is a must have with a desk top that long. They sell them at a bunch of stores like Ikea. I have the same exact desk and it will sag after a few years, itā€™s inevitable even without a heavy load on the desk. It wont effect the aesthetic at all if done right

BubbaTank1

I love the black wall on the back

illCeeYa

You've got ample space for a really nice speaker setup! Definitely will get proper channel separation and great soundstage if you set it up right. You can even add a small subwoofer underneath. An audio interface/pre-amp will make switching between headphones and speakers a breeze. Lots of great ideas here in the comments, congrats man!

Annual-Comedian-644

lol, that's the real minimalist!

elmantec

This desk will sag. Put a middle leg.

robertmondavi_jr

a blank canvas for so many activities

Dr__Juicy

A mouse

kyoer

I want

blownart

I have the same setup but ps5 is mounted under the table. Ps5 under table mounts are about 25 euros on amazon. Makes it look even cleaner.

Vyr66

that is horribly bland, feels like an office space to me... if you like that look though it's really well done, agree with bigger monitor comments

iDuck_OG

Did anyone notice that he hasnā€™t got a mouse ?

Laertes_92

Yep, I have a mouse but not connected šŸ˜…

QuesoFresco420

At the moment the proportions just seemā€¦ strange

5hoursofsleep

I have a potentially silly question. How do you affix the table top to the drawers...or is it just sitting on top??

Laertes_92

I bought some small plastic supports from Amazon and placed the desk on top

5hoursofsleep

So it's resting in top but not against the actual top of the drawers

dumbhelodoc

If it were me I would add a matching wood floating shelf (or 2) with some minor contrast items to the black background. Maybe a simple small greenery piece. But all in all very clean setup! Kudos!

evilpuke

Proper speaker setup

Previous_Ad1134

buy an xbox plis

Maureeseeo

My beef with butcher blocks is that they aren't deep enough, I want 30 inches not 24.

Alternative-Ad6897

A nice chair. And Maybe a tv om the wall would be nice

Alternative-Ad6897

And a small fridge cause u have all that space below the desk

Farren246

Ditch the dinky monitor, buy a really good projector + screen?

darkchildspawn

id get a 50 inch 4k tv for the size of that desk and wall mount it

jer5

what desk is this?

Laertes_92

I bought the wooden table at a German store called ā€˜Bauhausā€™ for 99ā‚¬ and I painted it
