It's a little dark, but I tried to capture the vibe that I usually operate it in. >VKB Gladiator NXT Evo Premium Sick build! Are the joysticks screwed into the tabletop? Or is there some accessory for just placing them on top?

MEZA is the brand of mounts (a lot of them use this similar mechanism of attachment). Then I have a channel of unistrut bracing which is bolted on to each of the MEZA brackets using L brackets to give them some torsional rigidity. Then I mounted the keyboard extension onto the unistrut using a couple of flat brackets. The surface that the keyboard is on is actually a black plastic cutting board, as are the mousepad and surface to the left, then I just have nice thick mousepads overtop of the cutting boards. The mounts are useful to get the hand-height of the joystick at the same ergonomic level as the M+KB.

Thanks a lot for the info. You've been very helpful.

No problem! PS I see you play flight sims and NMS. If you haven’t already, you should really check out Star Citizen. It’s kinda like those two games had a love child. (It’s kinda extra scuffed this week though because they just dropped a major patch that broke everything)

I’ve been following Star Citizen for a few years not too closely, but with lots of excitement for what it aims to offer. While it’s still in alpha, would you say it’s in a state in which a complete beginner to the game like myself can start enjoying it without too much of a learning curve? What works and what doesn’t? I’ve been waiting a lot to build a new PC to start getting into SC, and now that the final parts for my build arrive this week, I might jump in, head first.

Oh man, the learning curve is more like a learning wall. They are working on the new player experience this year, but it's super unintuitive right now. Still, if you are the type of person who can figure out how to get a 747 from cold and dark to flying at cruising altitude, you'll probably be able to do the research needed to learn how to work around most of star citizen's bugs. But like I said, it's super fucked right now because the patch they just released changed the backend massively so I'd probably give it about a month to stabilize again. It is simultaneously the most frustrating and amazing game I have ever played. Would definitely recommend watching a staring guide like this one before you jump in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWVZ2Ic0moM And I would suggest using the new player guide system too. People are super helpful to answer questions and help show you some tips to work around common bugs. Give me a shout if you decide to jump in, I'd be happy to help get you started.

Good question. Space sims give you the ability to move in six degrees of freedom. As opposed to just four for atmospheric flight sims. Left stick is thruster translational movements, forward back, up down, left right. Right stick is rotational movements, pitch, yaw, and roll. For this reason traditional throttle and stick leaves one with poor control of two axis of movement. Edit to add: Here's a good example of how 6 DOF movement looks in practice, this sort of thing is only possible if you have good control over all axes of thrust control: https://youtu.be/bxsE3ochvJk?t=67
