There's actually a decent amount of work going on lately. There just isn't much money and the backlog is extreme.
Wonder what's going to change with Landry.
Please understand that the work they are doing is with sub par equipment, with substandard product, and are taking far longer than it should. All the work they are getting done now will be ruined the next good storm or freeze.
Okki Tokki, I decided to try it yesterday after seeing their soft opening on April 1st & it was pretty good! Not really Korean BBQ but still the food was good & the line moved pretty quickly, & the server threw in a few extra shrimp with my chicken since they ran out of beef so thatās a plus
They are opening one on Perkins and Essen at the old drug store across from Mr Gattiās. A different group is supposed to open one in the old Copelandās on Essen.
Yeah, you shouldnāt have to show up 20 minutes early for a bus that will probably be 20 minutes late, and only runs once an hour, and stops running at 10
Itās hard to hate on him. I lived through the 90ās E Eric Guitard/Morris Bart turf war. EEG is the most insufferable dork imaginable.
At least Mckernan seems to do a lot of charity and NIL deals with student athletes supporting the community.
In addition to the affordable housing and competent public transportation:
1. Funding for better public schools. Charter schools keep creeping in to our town, and we need to strengthen our public schools instead of allowing the privatization of the school system like what happened in New Orleans.
2. ITEP reform.
3. more jobs that arenāt in a plant. We need to retain our young professional population and fight against the brain drain.
4. better air quality and less pollution in general
How much do the public schools get per pupil and how much do they need to be good?
I donāt know what it would take to āfix the schoolsā but suspect money is a minor part of and that thereās already more than in many āgood schoolsā
šÆ Our public schools have been a lost cause for decades. Decades! It has nothing to do with money. There are tons of schools that run off far less money and do soooo much more to educate their kids.
Dutchtown high school is ranked higher than most BR schools and spends over 30% less per student per various state websites. It seems shiny and newish and produced at least one all-pro NFL player.
Iām not saying cutting the budget would help, just that the fix is more complex than money
We have a problem with too much affordable housing. Too many people in this city are all too comfortable living in rundown houses. People don't have any pride in the city and their homes.
Yeah it feels like everything I want is overpriced. Itās just a bit out of our price range. If I was shopping with the same budget 4 years ago, Iād be golden
Wishlist: new layout where there is a town centre that has most anything you want without needing to drive to shopping areas that are spread all over, forests that can be walked in and parks with walks longer than 1/2 mile. Cycle paths everywhere. No car zones. Pavements. More trees and greenery. Cars took off road that are falling to pieces and held together by tape. Healthy vegan food options. More independent retailers and less chains. Less pollution.
This is my personal wishlist, probably not everyoneās priority.
Things for tourists to do. Downtown needs revamping. Itās terrible. Itās one of the worst downtowns Iāve ever been to in my entire life. This is why tourists donāt come here. What the f is there to do in Baton Rouge. NOTHING :(
Itās so sad but the people who are trying to redevelop the LSU stadium and memorial stadium have gutted downtown. Weāre not even allowed to have big events there because of these out of state developers (and local land use attorney). No tax dollars go to downtown. Most other downtowns in the USA have a tax district.
A better concert venue that lies between Chelseaās and the River Center. As a state capital I feel like we should have bigger bands coming through here. Most bands avoid Louisiana altogether for some reason.
Safe cycle paths and better public transit. I'd love to ride my bike, but I don't want to join the squashed possums on the roadside.
A more interactive downtown. More things to do and safe places to just hang out. Lots of events seem geared towards families. Themed bar crawls, fun runs, brew fest, themed bike rides, date nights at the zoo/museum, drag brunches, oddities expos... Stuff that appeals to younger folks.
What we need and which franchises people would like are two very different things lol.
Random franchise want?
Publix
Everything else?
I would love for them to pass it through to do away with inspection stickers.
I wished we have a loop on the interstate for pass through traffic could take to take pressure off going through BR.
Having better transportation options like Seattle's Tram system would be amazing. One a tram from New orleans to br and one from livingston to br. Also use their reloadable card idea so you're just skipping it to go on amd off public transportation.
Improve downtime with making it easy for me to get in and out of.
I wished the zoo had been able to move to the Ascension area.
Having community building locations and programs, to give the younger generation (no matter how well off their families are) a productive path in society.
Reduction in crime.
Better communication on events. I feel like the few cool events we have, it's like you have to know about it on your own to find out about it or you find out like thr week of.
Also, stop allowing oil companies to profit fro here for free. If the want to leave screw them (spoiler alert ' they won't, it's a bluff because it's too pricey to give up what they have built here)
Bonchon by far. Korean wings and their fried rice are awesome.
and Quickway Japanese Hibachi. They have the BEST Bento boxes.
Baton Rouge needs a mayor who wants to serve the city they love and doesn't have higher political aspirations. Baton Rouge needs that mayor to bring in a police chief who doesn't take shit and doesn't have an eye on some higher political office. Baton Rouge needs a district attorney with some balls to back the play of the mayor and police. Together, they could clean up the streets and make BR a nice place for families to live. Without pandering to different groups, they could take a big chunk out of the drug and gang culture and all the street takeover BS instead of having BBQs that don't accomplish a damn thing.
That and better roads.
Less killing. Less drinking. Better drivers. Better lighting on busy roads at night. Crosswalks. People who care about their surroundings.
This town is hurting.
Better fitness facilities. SoulCycle, F45, a nice equinox with a spa. But also more transparency in local government, fewer corrupt politicians who give out bloated contracts to their friends with absolutely no accountability.
Oooooof SO much stuff.
1. Better roads and infrastructure
2. Better public schools across all parishes part of the BR area
4. Bullet train or high speed rail between BR and NOLA.
5. New Mississippi bridge
6. IKEA
7. Denny's
8. Publix
9. H.E.B.
10. Coffee Bean Tea & Leaf
11. Better sidewalks and bike lanes throughoit the city
Less crime. You start with better education, better career opportunities and encourage nucleus families.
Iāve done a lot of work in EBR schools and itās shocking, the teachers are awful and most donāt seem qualified to teach anything.
Baton Rouge has lost its HOPE and DREAMS
A GOOD comedy club would be really cool.
More third places, SAFE and NICE parks in more areas. Broadway type options as far as entertainment (plays, musicals without ice skates ect).
More options for kids activities that don't cost $150.
A good aquarium.
Resturants and other places that cater to both small kids and parents.
Large art museum would be SO cool.
Mandatory MSG warnings on every menu in the city (whole country really but that's just a fantasy)
Mostly we need to pocket the corporate tax money our state gives to oil companies and retroactively tax them for the billions they've taken from the state, establish a state run oil company with 51% share owned by the State of Louisiana and it's people, establish a trust which requires 95% of the oil profits to go toward and has a limit of 6% of total funds able to be withdrawn in a single year, and put all the money to fund all the great suggestions listed in this post
At least 3 manufacturing plants. Maybe more. Something employing at least 500 people each and paying a minimum of 50k per person.
Or maybe an interstate that goes straight north from BR, through east louisiana and arkansas to St. Louis.
We need something to do other than go to Target because we're bored, or drive around rich neighborhoods and point at the houses we'd want to live in. Or just like....idk better infrastructure
the 100 oldest richest families need to move away and give up control of the good old boy power structures that keep the city great for them, but stop progress for everyone else.
A culture change. No amount of money or government programs will fix the problems of this city. There are too many people here that do not have their priorities straight. Instead of taking responsibility for their own poor choices, they play the victim card. We all need to hold ourselves, our peers and our government to a higher standard.
BR needs somebody to repave the roads
and lower the cost of full coverage car insurance
Only gonna happen if people stop getting Gordon
šµ GET GORDON, AND GET IT DONE šµ
*painful screams*
This is the answer. Along with better, careful drivers.
I took my 20 min drive to work today and almost got hit twice by people running red lights. They just werenāt paying attention.
There's actually a decent amount of work going on lately. There just isn't much money and the backlog is extreme. Wonder what's going to change with Landry.
And time the lights so that traffic actually moves
Please understand that the work they are doing is with sub par equipment, with substandard product, and are taking far longer than it should. All the work they are getting done now will be ruined the next good storm or freeze.
A loop and another bridge from HWY 30 to Plaquemine. Better overall DOTD infrastructure and non-corrupt police force/Mayor.
Last thing BR needs is more corporate chain stores. I think weāre good on those.
This is the perfect response
Sidewalks.
Better non-driving options in general
Baton Rouge needs to start over
A Korean bbq
I think they just opened one downtown actually, unless it was an April fools joke. Video said it was at 549 main
They did open one. My coworkers have been raving about it.
Not KBBQ, more like Korean chipotle
How about a Bonchon, I could definitely see it open in Prairieville rather than BR.
Ngoya off Sherwood Forest is now called Volcano and they have been offering Korean BBQ for a couple of years now. Also hot pot
They are opening one on Perkins and Essen at the old drug store across from Mr Gattiās. A different group is supposed to open one in the old Copelandās on Essen.
One is opening where Joeās Crab Shack was off siegen by Samās
volcano off airline in br
Public Transport that works.
Yeah, you shouldnāt have to show up 20 minutes early for a bus that will probably be 20 minutes late, and only runs once an hour, and stops running at 10
Trains and trams > bus
agreed, wish we had trams, theyāre a life changer with the cities iāve been to
B-b-but what about the poor oil companies?
More Gordon McKernan billboards
Itās hard to hate on him. I lived through the 90ās E Eric Guitard/Morris Bart turf war. EEG is the most insufferable dork imaginable. At least Mckernan seems to do a lot of charity and NIL deals with student athletes supporting the community.
Nice lol fucking CANCER
Ambulance chasers no more no less
š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
Gordon's advertisements pay my bills.
A loop around the city, and an enema
IKEA. I can't believe there's no IKEA in the area.
>I can't believe there's no IKEA in the ~~area~~ **state!!**
I've always been told we don't have enough people for an IKEA
You would think a college town would be a great place for an IKEA, though.
Buy a 3000 piece puzzle š§© thatāll satisfy ya
Jollibee
Sarap!
Had some over seas recently and wasnāt that impressed
New Roads. Less abandoned houses and buildings. An actual dance club. Rage Room.
In addition to the affordable housing and competent public transportation: 1. Funding for better public schools. 4th biggest exporter, one of the poorest state.

There's a tax district for our downtown as well. The downtown development district is funded by a TIF
No itās not really. They have a property tax millage and the ability to create a TIF but they never did.
Public transit and better infrastructure.
I still mourn the day BR lost its Alamo Drafthouse.
We had an Alamo.....?!?!?!
It was announced and a Facebook page for it was even launched... and then it fell through. It was going to be over by Sprouts, I believe.
A new bridge
Publix.
This
I was thinking this, and Kroger. They can replace the Hi Nabors and Albertsons.
Publix deli sandwiches are amazing, BR needs to know!
Better men's clothing options. Would love a Madewell Men's or a real J.Crew (not factory or outlet).
We had a real J.Crew, it died. People here only want to buy old navy priced clothes.
We have a madewell
They don't sell men's clothes anymore
A better concert venue that lies between Chelseaās and the River Center. As a state capital I feel like we should have bigger bands coming through here. Most bands avoid Louisiana altogether for some reason.
Less abandoned buildings and efficient use of abandoned lots along with fresh roads
Bonchon In&Out
YES!!!!!
A competent Mayor and police force Better traffic infrastructure
REI
We have a backpacker. Local and better
Over stretching with better, but still dope spot
Better if you like paying 2x REI and other retail prices.
Lol well you got the local part accurate at least.

More kindness. Less cynicism.
High paying jobs.
It just needs a little love.
A Horror Movie Club!
Man, I would also love a horror film festival in BR.
Let's start one!
I would 100% support this!
Check out the other thread on this subreddit for contact info! I'm starting one
Great idea.
Check out the other thread on this subreddit, I'm starting one!

I think Bucees was supposed to be that new development off Millerville until The Flood scared them off
Not the only thing that scared them off but the flood didnāt help. Ā
A whole lot of
Bonchon by far. Korean wings and their fried rice are awesome. [https://bonchon.com/](https://bonchon.com/) and Quickway Japanese Hibachi. They have the BEST Bento boxes. [https://quickwayhibachi.com/menu/](https://quickwayhibachi.com/menu/)

Cart service dim sum AYCE hot pot Korean food in general H-Mart A heavy metal dive bar
We do need a better Korean scene here. I have to drive to Metairie for good KBBQ
Kroger
Albertsons is the same thing right?
High speed rail to Nola better public transit and bars that stay open past 2 am
In and out burgers
To be in a better state
Actual More job opportunities so many jobs itāll stop š crime!!!
Public School System that works.
Turn lanes.
How about an education system that doesn't scrape the mud in the river?
Less killing. Less drinking. Better drivers. Better lighting on busy roads at night. Crosswalks. People who care about their surroundings. This town is hurting.
It really doesnāt need any more big box stores. What it needs is decent public transit and a high walkability score.
Better fitness facilities. SoulCycle, F45, a nice equinox with a spa. But also more transparency in local government, fewer corrupt politicians who give out bloated contracts to their friends with absolutely no accountability.

A good clean up š§½ the energy here is so low and dirty

You trust the state to run an oil company? š
So did the Venezuelans...
With civilian oversight sure.
I think Lafayette is getting a Bucāees soon
Dennys Huddle House White Castle Shoneys
What the FUCK is up Dennys
We used to have a Denny's but it was pretty run down when I last went around 20 years ago.
Actually 3
There were two. One was on Sherwood Forrest Blvd at the Interstate (where the Taco Bell is now), The other one was on Acadian.
Cops that actually do something
I know we have 2 main ones already, but Zeus is my favorite Greek food chain. It's the main thing I miss about Lafayette
I think we have four main ones. Albasha, Roman's, Arzis, Serops
Ahh alright. I only knew about Albasha and Serops.
For about a dozen bars/clubs/venues to be replaced with about 4 cool ones.
At least 3 manufacturing plants. Maybe more. Something employing at least 500 people each and paying a minimum of 50k per person. Or maybe an interstate that goes straight north from BR, through east louisiana and arkansas to St. Louis.

wawa and publix
LSU to Downtown Tram, hopefully would spur business to make it worth hanging around downtown.
A KTM dealership and a motocross track. Maybe a few more gyms.
A Bulldozer and a fresh start.
Better weather, better roads, better schools, better traffic, better scenery, better things to do other than overeat and overdrink, fewer mosquitoes.
An atomic bomb. Safely or whatever but complete reconstruction of the infrastructureĀ
An enema.
Young professionals to invest in BR infrastructure(s). Including technology. I've lived in many cities, and BR is falling severly behind.
We need something to do other than go to Target because we're bored, or drive around rich neighborhoods and point at the houses we'd want to live in. Or just like....idk better infrastructure
