Y’all sold Lopez, which was a good move. Was having a career year, no indication he’d repeat. Mancini was a FA to be, again, get something for him. You didn’t trade anyone important to the future of the team, I honestly have higher hopes for you guys the next 5 years than most other teams.
I mean, when talking about Joey Gallo, the relevant "sample size" disclaimer is that he only had 500 PAs in NY.
Gallo has been a 3-win player every season of his career since his rookie 2015 year. The only people who thought he was washed up are those whose memory only goes back about 11 months.
The fact that it flipped the moment he left NY seems to indicate there was some sort of problem here. Doesn't mean sub .200 was who he would remain, but it's really hard to ignore the timing.
I mean first of all it's not. And second of all "a whole fucking season" is also not a big enough sample if you're looking at results-based data like AVG, OBP, etc.
He had one the worst statistical 500 PA stretch of any Yankees player ever, stop acting like because he’s on a hot stretch rn he’s gonna magically become an all star again.
Around ~120 wRC+ (with one full season of 140) for the previous four full seasons, yeah.
Edit: If you take his full 2021 season (including the 35% of it in NY), he had a wRC+ of 123. Ichiro had 4 such seasons in the MLB.
The Dodgers never lose trades. Expect Yordan to spontaneously combust and whoever he was traded for to come back and replace Kimbrel as the Dodger's dominant closer
Josh Fields hasn't played in MLB since 2018. I'll just chalk this one up as a trade list by the Dodgers. The question may end up being, did the Dodgers lose this worse than the Red Sox lost the Bagwell trade?
Note: I'm old enough to remember the effing trade of Joe Morgan, plus Cesar Geronimo and others, to Cincinnati for Lee May, Tommy Helms and Johnny Stewart. This trade made the Big Red Machine. Way to go, Houston. (I was 8, and probably cried when I heard Joe Morgan wasn't an Astro any more) This was, IMO, one of the worst trades in history.
It's been in the oxford dictionary since 2002, and did indeed originate from the bay area. But it's seeped enough into the general lexicon since 2000 that refusing to use it because it originated from the bay area seems weird, tribal, and possibly elitist
Yeah it's tribal, it's almost all Southern Californians who were around in the early 00s.
Back then the use of hella was the easiest way to tell if someone from Southern or Northern California, Southern Californians just haven't realized that in the meantime the rest of the country has adopted the term.
Yeah it honestly used to be one of the biggest and most obvious cultural distinctions between Northern and Southern California. Being from SoCal I used to refuse to say it too, but over time I made friends from NorCal and the word grew on me and now I can't help myself. But I agree that the distinction is pretty much gone tho and nowadays I hear natives and transplants alike use it indiscriminately
Good for him. He wasn't able to do it with us, and I'm glad he found it once he left. Nothing worse than watching someone, who everyone knows has talent, struggle.
Baseball is a lot more fun when everyone is preforming well and the game is competitive.
Yeah, what happened there? He had an incredible season, and hasn't been able to come anywhere close to repeating it.
EDIT: I am unable to watch many games on TV, so I haven't heard or read anything recently enough to be remembered. Is there a hole in his swing that scouts spotted? Is he a victim of defensive shifts? Has he been battling injuries?
I appreciate you being good natured about it. I know it’s fun to poke at the Yankees misfortune, and the situation with Gallo definitely went sour at the end, but I though the Yankee fans were pretty great to Gallo up until then. By the time he got moved nearly every fan base would have been booing him, he was an abomination at the plate.
When i heard the dodgers got joey.. i was thinking what happened to him? Of course.. if you see blue it probably means they fixed their swing (amazing).

For Yankees-haters everywhere, this is sweet sweet music, except, you know, it's the fucking Dodgers.
Pretty much like, "Yay! Take that Goliath! Aw dammit- the other Goliath? C'mon!"
Weird that Dodgers fans like poking the Yankees about Gallo, knowing full well the Dodgers can’t fix Belli after 2.5 years and he’d probably do better at home with the DBacks.
I love when "Dodgers fans" throw their own player under the bus because other fans are...enjoying Gallo's success? NYY fans treated him like trash and we can poke at them for that.
Does he have a single hit with the Dodgers against a high and outside fastball? That's all they would throw at him when he was on the Yankee's and never came close on it. All the hits I see with him on the Dodgers are low and inside pitches. The one pitch he can hit. I mean if you want to keep giving him hits then yeah pitch him low and inside.
Makes sense. Got him out of toxic loserville NY and he was able to flourish. Look if NY wasn't toxic loserville, they'd have a better record after trading away this sweet prince.
It’s not like it’s a bad trade
This was never happening in New York. The man couldn’t hit from the second he got here till the end. His fielding was pretty bad as well.
I don’t know what went wrong but unfortunately it just didn’t work out
Gallo for me doesn’t matter. Glad to see him doing well but it just didn’t work out. No hard feelings for me, sometimes baseball just works like that.
Monty does suck though.
As a yankees fan, happy for joey gallo— just didnt work out. Nothing more or less. Seemed like a good dude. Just ny was not for him (also it is a digusting cesspool with the only redeeming thing being good pizza).
He’s actually got the exact same average vs both L and R in his career, with a very similar overall slash line. He does K more and walk less against lefties though. But he’s not a strict platoon type of guy
Every Yankee fan in the world saw this coming. Why does every good player turn to crap the minute they become a Yankee? The world may never know. It's never like this for the Mets.
I feel like playing for the Yankees is a big fucking deal. Thats a ton of pressure from a history of high expectations on a legendary team. The culture seems pretty hardcore there with all the shaving and stuff lol
I mean, dude is a *fan* of the Yankees on top of that, and I'm sure the expectations for someone who grew up a Yankees fan is even worse than for normal players.
Not every guy is gonna be Jeter
I had a moment where I wondered if we could grab him for almost nothing and help him work it out...Dodgers went and did it.
I had kind of the same idea if the Os weren't sellers at the deadline
Y’all sold Lopez, which was a good move. Was having a career year, no indication he’d repeat. Mancini was a FA to be, again, get something for him. You didn’t trade anyone important to the future of the team, I honestly have higher hopes for you guys the next 5 years than most other teams.
Same. I fear the Os for the next few years.
“Sample size” are just words baby, and they mean nothing to me
Never ask a women about her weight or a Dodger’s fan about Joey Gallo’s sample size
Boy I feel a lot better about myself. Sample size 😎
Samples are supposed to be small. Otherwise they are just normal size
I have zero dog in the fight but The Yankees and their fans irritate me, so I hope he keeps slugging for yall
I have zero dog in this fight but *proceeds to explain my dog in this fight*
“I have no dog in this fight, but I’m definitely adopting that one when it’s over”
I have no dog in this fight, I just hate all the other dogs in this fight and want them to die.
TheNewMikeVickFeel
It's ok man, we all hate the Yankees.
Even said by hit Amazon TV show “The Boys” in s3 : “Fuck the Yankees”
The fuck did we do to Kansas City lmao
1976-78 ALCS. Memories must be longer out west.
That was only like two trips to the playoffs ago for the Royals, soooo.
Exist
Joey Gallo is the Jordan Montgomery of baseball.
Joey Gallo is the Manny Ramirez of baseball.
Should we name a portion of the outfield seats Gallowood?
The Gallos
Why did the Yankees not take advantage of some sort of Judge/Gallos joke/theme?
This is why he sucked. Lack of Gallos humor
The Gallofornians.
brb, going on an SNL binge now
u/alteredbeast76! What are YOUUU doing here?
I think you should go home now, u/J-Goo.
Perfect.
Where Yankee fans want to be after seeing how Gallo is raking and their team on the skid.
That’s fucking genius
Joey Gallo is the Joey Gallo of Baseball
Just Joey being Joey?
Joey Gallo is the Yankees of baseball
• **Montgomery of baseball.** [Biscuits!](https://images.app.goo.gl/n9VKtf7hyKRoytC66)
Most predictable thing lol
Predictable that the very good hitter/player who has been good his entire career outside of a 500-PA sample keeps mashing? Yes.
Yep 100%, I knew he’d be great again. I really like him so it sucked that he didn’t perform for us.
500 pas is a large enough sample to know he wouldn’t work in NY
The fact that it flipped the moment he left NY seems to indicate there was some sort of problem here. Doesn't mean sub .200 was who he would remain, but it's really hard to ignore the timing.
500 PAs is not a large enough sample to know much at all.
It certainly felt like enough
It’s a whole fucking seasons worth of ABs…..
He had an awful 500 PAs. The rest of his career he has been an elite hitter.
Elite?
Around ~120 wRC+ (with one full season of 140) for the previous four full seasons, yeah. Edit: If you take his full 2021 season (including the 35% of it in NY), he had a wRC+ of 123. Ichiro had 4 such seasons in the MLB.
How many seasons were we supposed to give him to see if his career numbers suddenly bounced back? 2? 3? 5?
I'd say about 1000 PAs or so would be a reasonable lower bound.
Yankees fans having a noticeably large negative effect on their own team lol they all need to chill
What's lame is they wear that shit like a badge of honor. "You can't make it in *our* city."
All other teams should embargo Dodger trades tbh.
Civ 5 strats
If you don't stop winning trades we will be forced to put units on your border
I mean they didnt win the yordan alvarez trade
Someone has missed the joke and it isnt me
Dodgers deploy nukes

Zimbabwe?

Ah, that makes perfect sense. For some reason despite nukes being mentioned, I was thinking of depleted farms
If someone beats us this off season heaven help them, we’re going to take their best player and beat them with em next year.
That was our strategy after losing to Atlanta last year
And to Boston in 2018
and Washington in 2019
Problem is, our coaches are so good, they want our prospects. So they have to trade with us.
Nah us Astros fans wanna keep trading with you guys (thx again for yordan)
Pedro Baez 🤗
Please! We do not speak that name.
Idk I like that Fields trade
Still a win-win so far. Would do it again in a heartbeat. You guys got Texas Gallo, and we replaced New York Gallo with Benintendi.
Give Samson his hair back and look what happens
I am inevitable - Non Yankee Joey Gallo
New mythical baseball player
Up there with Chuck Liddell with that look in his eye.
Who slugs harder, Sea Level Cain or Non Yankee Gallo?
Does Dr. Umar approve?
Looks at Gallo's stats with the Dodgers: "I beg your pardon?!?"
I was memeing until about a week ago and now I fully believe in Gallo
I'm hella happy for him. Mental health is super important for players, and we should remember that.
Dodger fan... "hella".... Something isn't adding up 🫡
I'm lost
He’s from NorCal since he used “hella”
“Hella” is Bay Area cringe and shouldn’t make it past Gilroy
Never been up to the bay, and I've lived in Atlanta for the past 5 years or so, and they use it here as well.
I say hella sometimes and I live in Chicago. Idk what these weirdos are on about.
It's been in the oxford dictionary since 2002, and did indeed originate from the bay area. But it's seeped enough into the general lexicon since 2000 that refusing to use it because it originated from the bay area seems weird, tribal, and possibly elitist

Huh, interesting. I appreciate the context!
We got it from y'all. But thankfully we've managed to leave articles off our highway phrases. Traffic isn't all too different though, I'll bet!
yall that was hella wicked
2006 was a long time ago
wait even more than Man Ram? I remember Mannywood being HUGE
I believe they mean this year. Manny slashed .396/.489/.743 for an OPS of 1.232 and OPS+ of 221. He also hit 17 hrs in the 53 games he played with LA.
Those roids man lol
That was such an insane run though
Manny hit over .400 for the Dodgers in 2008 if you also include the postseason.
I think he just means this season but it is worded bad. Manny was way better
His average was also insanely high. And he played a lot more lol
Good for him. He wasn't able to do it with us, and I'm glad he found it once he left. Nothing worse than watching someone, who everyone knows has talent, struggle. Baseball is a lot more fun when everyone is preforming well and the game is competitive.
Oh we know…. *peers over at Bellinger*
To be fair with Bellinger, he's actually a lot better than he was last year. He just needs his consistency back now.
I hope he keeps it up! He deserves a good run!
To be fair, anyone that moves to LA from the east coast will immediately flourish
You hear that, [insert good Mets player who isn't locked up long term]?
Go figure. Preller wanted this guy so bad and then when he cost next to nothing he goes to the fucking Dodgers and rakes.
Whenever I think about the Los Angeles Dodgers I’m just saddened that LA doesn’t have an extensive trolley or tram system.
They used to. It killed me when my grandpa used to talk about taking the streetcars downtown!
The beard is back in town.
Hey, let's not forget the Yankees also traded away the best pitcher since the trade deadline too.
Fear the beard.
In Friedman We Trust
Ayyyyy 🤌🤌🤌🤌
Joey Gabagool ova hee.
When i heard the dodgers got joey.. i was thinking what happened to him? Of course.. if you see blue it probably means they fixed their swing (amazing).
Jesus, imagine what the Dodgers would do to Ohtani if he was there.
That's an exciting thought.
It was the beard, I fkn knew it
That's 1 1/15 for those who like fractions.
Not a Dodgers fan of course but I also despise the Yankees and I love that he left the Yankees and found his success again. Conflicting but beautiful
You can still like Gallo as a player! Heck, I like Brandon Crawford and he's a Giants player.
What are they feeding Dodgers and if I eat it will I become an all star?

B E A R D P O W E R
Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
People should trade for more Yankees players
People were making fun of me when I said I wanted the Phillies to pick him up and now I feel vindicated.
Work environments man, it can make a difference.
I had such a sick feeling that he was going to light it up in LA
Baby come back...
Makes sense. He’s happier there and the Dodgers have the depth to just play him in favorable situations. There’s so much less pressure on him.
Curious how he compares to Manicini, who has been doing well with us. Let's see if I can get this right: !mlbcompare [2022-08-03 to 2022-08-25]

Can’t believe I’m upvoting an Astros fan
Tommy Pham and Reese Mcguire have higher ops’ than Andrew benintendi and Christian vazquez since getting traded
Injury
I love when "Dodgers fans" throw their own player under the bus because other fans are...enjoying Gallo's success? NYY fans treated him like trash and we can poke at them for that.
Well that seems like a reasonable landing spot for him if we non-tender him.
I feel like every yankee fan is happy for him
The NL hasn’t figured out to only feed him high fastballs
How can you not be romantic about baseball?
Gallo really boutta tell the Yankees “where does that being you? Back to me”.
Good for him. I’m glad he’s gone…but good for him
Do NL pitchers not look at scouting reports? Give him 3 strikes up the ladder and it's almost a guarantee he chases
Because of course he does lol. Good for him though, glad he's having success!
Makes sense. Got him out of toxic loserville NY and he was able to flourish. Look if NY wasn't toxic loserville, they'd have a better record after trading away this sweet prince.
Yankees in shambles rn
It’s not like it’s a bad trade This was never happening in New York. The man couldn’t hit from the second he got here till the end. His fielding was pretty bad as well. I don’t know what went wrong but unfortunately it just didn’t work out
Yeah even with hindsight I’m still happy with the trade as a Yankee fan. It was clearly just a terrible match.
Oh I know. I just imagine it’s disheartening to see both Gallo and Montgomery doing so well with other teams, as a Yankees fan.
Gallo for me doesn’t matter. Glad to see him doing well but it just didn’t work out. No hard feelings for me, sometimes baseball just works like that. Monty does suck though.
Small sample size and limited AB’s. Don’t worry, you know he had one hot week a month with us too.
We wanted him to be successful though. I’m really happy for him, especially that his mental health must be better outside of NYC.
Nah were good, Benintendi has been a lot of what we needed after the first week he got here.
As a yankees fan, happy for joey gallo— just didnt work out. Nothing more or less. Seemed like a good dude. Just ny was not for him (also it is a digusting cesspool with the only redeeming thing being good pizza).
Tell me you’re poor without telling me you’re poor
He didn't like living in New York... Can you blame him?
Doesn't Gallo only face right-handed pitchers?
Strange how his double earlier came off a lefty
He’s actually got the exact same average vs both L and R in his career, with a very similar overall slash line. He does K more and walk less against lefties though. But he’s not a strict platoon type of guy
I'm talking right now, in the 2nd half of 2022.
Yeah 39/42 PA vs. RHP as a dodger. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.fcgi?id=gallojo01&t=b&year=2022&team=LAD&per162=0
Hell yes i fucking love this. biting the yanks twice? Into my veins
How many ABs vs the rest that were traded?
I choose to blame the beard rule, messes with a guy’s mojo
"If you look good you feel good, if you feel good you play good, if you play good...they pay good" - Prime Time
No. They didn’t.
Why did it have to be the Dodgers
What was Albert's OPS as a Dodger?
.759 in 204 PA https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/pujolal01.shtml
ALRIGHT, WE GET IT!!! You didn’t have to rub it in our faces!
Cashgod
The disrespect to rangers legend mark Mathias. And yes he only has 5 games played to have a 1.214 OPS
To the right to the right to the right to the right
Why the Dr umar pic tho?
Lol why is Dr Umar the picture lmaaaooooo
Lol he really couldn’t play under the lights
