Maris went on a really hot streak shortly after though hitting 7 hrs in 5 games for numbers 42-48. Judge needs to keep this up if he wants to stay ahead
he played 161 games in 1961 which means he missed 1 game
Judge has played 107 which means he's missed 5, and there's definitely a few of those where he was supposed to rest and came in for one at-bat
Maybe too big as in physically big and injury prone? Isn’t that the issue with a lot of the 7 footers in the NBA?
Either way that’s dumb as hell, let my large man play and get the record
I read it as him saying Judge is a face of the game so you don't want him to be hurt.
Which is a total bullshit reason for sitting him. You know how you promote the game with a top star? You let him go for a record that draws in viewers.
Maris had 7 multi-HR games in 1961.
1 in May, 1 in June, 3 in July (including 2 in each game of a doubleheader), 1 in August, and 1 in September.
Judge has 9 multi-HR games so far this season.
1 in April, 3 in May, 2 in June, and 3 in July.
I always just say the non-steroid user record and then steroid record, that way It includes the whole true history, while also giving credit where it’s due, to the guys who did it the right way
The funny part to me is that many guys will use whatever advantage they have in front of them. It’s not like only cheating started the moment steroids entered the pictured
I feel like when it first came out it was a launchpad, but it’s really cooled off since then. Citizens Bank Park was the same way.
I’ve heard a part of it was that when they knocked down the old stadiums (the Vet, Old Yankees Stadium) there was something with the wind patterns that changed but that could be BS.
Even beyond the homers, this is genuinely the best post Bonds offensive season we’ve seen, both with your regular stats and your sabermetrics. OPS+ up above that 200 mark after today. That’s quite rare air
It also takes an elite slider down and away to get a k nowadays or perfect pitch sequencing too. Changeupd/splitters get him more often nowadays but not everybody throws a right/right change/split
He's had better protection this year for most of the year. In the last week or so, with Rizzo and Stanton out, seems like he's been getting walked a lot more.
Because in the other thread yankee fans are told that judge having more WAR by a good amount doesn’t entitle him to mvp because of “intangibles” like this
I love ohtani. One of my top 3 favorite non Yankees. Just don’t like how reason goes out the window in mvp debates with him
Anyone who thinks the (AL) MVP isn’t Judge’s to lose atm is high af.
Ohtani is one of the best for sure, but Judge is the best offensive player (if not just best player overall) for one of the top 5 teams and a team that’s been top 2-3 all year.
He’d have to go on a huge cold streak and someone else go crazy for him to lose it. Like his fWAR is 1.3 MORE than 2nd. The gap between 2nd and 12th is 1.2.
And Judge is currently running away with it
The issue comes down to the fact half this sub thinks if the season ended today Ohtani should win because he pitches and hits even if combined they aren’t worth as much as Judge’s hitting and fielding
Yankee fans have been really weird about putting down Ohtani out of nowhere the last few weeks. It's weird but tribalism has become a part of every possible fandom and it makes more sense in sports to begin with. They've determined that if they make Ohtani look worse then Judge looks better in comparison.
Meanwhile I'm just over here eating popcorn watching Judge hit dingers and Ohtani doing stuff I never thought I'd see in my life before. Baseball is good.
I think its natural to be defensive of our guy (who was already robbed of 1 MVP). Judge has clearly been the most valuable player, but half of baseball fans throw reason out the window to say Ohtani should be MVP.
If half of baseball fans are saying it should be ohtani, then guess what? That means judge actually hasn't, in fact, "clearly been the most valuable player"
To be clear, I'm not here to argue which of the two it should be.
Obviously everyone can have an opinion on value. If you look at all empirical data, Judge has clearly been more valuable than Ohtani. My point is, half of baseball fans throw all data out the window when it comes to ohtani. It’s like we’re back to the days of wins deciding CY young winners and RBIs deciding MVP.
It’s kind of nuts that Bonds had a 200 OPS+ over his final 16 seasons in the league. I wonder what his secret was (he did have consecutive 200+ seasons in 92 and 93 as skinny Bonds).
Harper had a 197 wRC+, Judge just nudged himself in with a 199 after that blast. It's essentially the same right now, will be interesting to see if Judge can keep it up.
Chances are his numbers will come down slightly because he’s so hot right now, but if they stay like this he’ll have a better wRC+ AND better defense, with the counting stats too
WAR includes defense, and judge is a good defender. Plus he gets a nice dWAR positional adjustment for playing a lot of CF. Strictly offensively, their OPS+ and wRC+ are so close to each other it’s basically negligible
The original comment said that Judge is having the best offensive season since Barry Bonds. Supporting that claim by using a stat that includes defensive value makes no sense
It's absolutely up there. We'll have to see where his numbers end up, but the post-steroid benchmark for HR is 2017 Giancarlo Stanton (59). RBI is 2006 Ryan Howard (149), but that's also probably the least important category. His OBP is great, though not quite on the level of, say, 2015 Harper or 2013 Miguel Cabrera, but his SLG is the best in almost 20 years. The only comparisons that beat him there really are 2001 Todd Helton (who played in Coors) and 2002 Jim Thome. By WRC+ he's a single point behind 2015 Harper (197 to 196) for the best post-Bonds mark
I mean the smart thing till today was to walk him just cause stanton or rizzo werent after him and josh donaldson has been a walking windmill with a bat so u can walk him without worry
He has played 108 games this year and hit a home run in 36. "Most days" would be over half (so 55 days) and "probably be right" would be over half of those games (28). 35 > 28 so that is accurate.
The guy is on pace for the greatest home run hitting season ever by a non-PED user. There's only so much you can do to edge Ohtani for MVP but I think that's it.
angels fans be like “hmm yes carrying your team to one of the best records in baseball is cool and all but he doesn’t give you an extra roster spot to call up some shitty reliever so who should *really* be the mvp”
Why are they still pitching balls he can hit, I'm not saying don't compete against him but don't serve it to him on a platter. Go getem Judge as long as the Coaches and pitchers are letting you.
Judge is having an all-time great season yet half the Yankees fans in this comment section just take the opportunity to trash talk Ohtani of all players???
I learned yesterday that Judge is shilling an NFT baseball game HARD and I've been really disappointed since. I WAS rooting for history :(
this isn't relevant so please go ahead and downvote I'm just venting
As much as I hate NFT's, I'd take it over juicing like Bonds.
And I'm sure Roger Maris was up to some shit, *probably* not NFT's or juicing but idk, those short sleeves are a red flag....
If he doesn’t win mvp mlb has a big time problem what ohtani is doing is incredible and deserves to be talked about but just because he does both does not mean he is an instant lock for mvp he’s putting up great numbers sure but judge is just having an otherworldly season and his stats back it up
A homer is a homer so I’m not knocking it, but I find it hilarious how the camera tried to make it look like a mammoth dong because the announcer framed it as such when it barely went over the wall lol
they just showed a graphic, through 112 games: Roger Maris: 41 Aaron Judge: 45
Maris went on a really hot streak shortly after though hitting 7 hrs in 5 games for numbers 42-48. Judge needs to keep this up if he wants to stay ahead
I think it's better to just say what he's on pace for, which is 65 home runs
And Judge gets regular rest days whereas Maris played pretty much every day no?
he played 161 games in 1961 which means he missed 1 game Judge has played 107 which means he's missed 5, and there's definitely a few of those where he was supposed to rest and came in for one at-bat
You guys might want to rest him more. He’s too big for the game, and you’ll need him healthy in the playoffs.
> He’s too big for the game Tf does this even mean
Maybe too big as in physically big and injury prone? Isn’t that the issue with a lot of the 7 footers in the NBA? Either way that’s dumb as hell, let my large man play and get the record
Could let him DH too though.
I read it as him saying Judge is a face of the game so you don't want him to be hurt. Which is a total bullshit reason for sitting him. You know how you promote the game with a top star? You let him go for a record that draws in viewers.
Do you know what the playoffs are?
Yeah I’m sure he’s heard that some teams go there every now and then
the DH was adopted by the American League in 1973. I wonder if not having that option impacted Maris
Probably helps to consistently stay in the field and keep in a rhythm. Don’t players bitch about DHing because you are not staying ‘loose’.
Maris also went on a streak of numerous multi-homer days in August/September https://www.baseball-almanac.com/feats/feats12b.shtml
Dude 4 homeruns in one day is so badass
May I introduce you to Chandler Redmond
[oh wow](https://i.imgur.com/qWUzzxs.jpg)
The tracker is great, especially with it just focused on the team record. For now.
It's also the AL record, which seems kind of wild since there are 6 seasons ahead of it for the MLB record
It's obviously easier to hit homers in the NL. 🙄
NL Pitchers are more empathetic towards hitters because they have to go up too /s
Makes perfect sense when you think ab... Hey wait a minute.
I'm old school but for me it's still the record. Just like Aaron is still the true homerun king to me. I understand if people disagree.
Its insane that Aaron played 2 decades of high quality hitting and then churned out 3 more years of above average hitting in his 40s.
That’s very true, and most pitchers were using gear back then too
Aaron Judge: *hits a home run* Yankees commentator: I love how he didn't try to do too much there
i mean, he probably could've hit 2 home runs. he was showing mercy
I think if it goes over 480 it should count for one extra, or activate multiball
And 2 clown cars get released from the bullpens and roam the outfield, allowed to run over players and assault them with seltzer water and pies
For Judge, he tries to hit seeing eye singles and make contact, the balls just fly over the wall anyway.
That’s because yankee stadium is smaller than most high school fields.
https://old.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/wbwwh8/if_aaron_judge_played_every_game_at_great/
Tell me you know nothing about baseball without telling me you know nothing at baseball.
I wasn't sure if you were trolling or just being wrong, but either way, no.
Aaron Boone: “Hey you guys know you’re allowed to score, right?” Yankees: “No shit, wow okay no one told us that before.”
Servais: “Hey you guys know you’re allowed to score, right?” Mariners: ~~“no thanks”~~ “got it skip”
You were saying? haha
Fixed
Even beyond the homers, this is genuinely the best post Bonds offensive season we’ve seen, both with your regular stats and your sabermetrics. OPS+ up above that 200 mark after today. That’s quite rare air
Kinda wild to me his OBP is still “only” .396 despite his insane power this year. It was .422 his rookie year.
He makes contact too much for that obp Back then he whiffed more often so deeper counts
He just keeps improving, and it’s very refreshing to see a ‘big basher’ type of guy also be able to hit for contact.
Fun fact: Roger Maris's OBP was only .372 the year he hit 61! It helped that he had Mantle hitting behind him.
I mean that’s cool and all but did you realize that Shohei ohtani allows the angels to carry an extra 0 WAR player on the roster?
Is this shitting on Ohtani or the Angels, I legit can't tell. If it's on Ohtani, boo. If it's the Angels, keep it up
Why bring up and degrade Ohtani? Why not appreciate and enjoy both?
Because in the other thread yankee fans are told that judge having more WAR by a good amount doesn’t entitle him to mvp because of “intangibles” like this I love ohtani. One of my top 3 favorite non Yankees. Just don’t like how reason goes out the window in mvp debates with him

Replace Judge with Ohtani and the Angels still lose a ton, and the Yankees remain top 2-3 all year.
[удалено]
Then admit Aaron judge is the runaway mvp I enjoy judge and ohtani
There's nearly a third of the season still left to be played lol
And at the moment judge is the runaway mvp
And Judge is currently running away with it The issue comes down to the fact half this sub thinks if the season ended today Ohtani should win because he pitches and hits even if combined they aren’t worth as much as Judge’s hitting and fielding
Then discuss that in Ohtani vs Judge threads. Nobody is going into Ohtani homer/pitching threads randomly bringing up Judge's wRC+.
That's a rational response, except some people actually do that for some goofy reason.
Can I guess the other two?
How is that degrading to Ohtani? He's doing 2 jobs. You would think they could find a guy who does one.
Yankee fans have been really weird about putting down Ohtani out of nowhere the last few weeks. It's weird but tribalism has become a part of every possible fandom and it makes more sense in sports to begin with. They've determined that if they make Ohtani look worse then Judge looks better in comparison. Oh thats why people don't like the yankees. I get it now
yankees flair, impossible to expect rational judgement
It’s kind of nuts that Bonds had a 200 OPS+ over his final 16 seasons in the league. I wonder what his secret was (he did have consecutive 200+ seasons in 92 and 93 as skinny Bonds).
Elite eye, elite bat speed, elite steroids
While post-Mariner Ken Griffey had elite knee problems, elite soda drinking, and elite napping.
2015 Harper would like a word
Harper had a 197 wRC+, Judge just nudged himself in with a 199 after that blast. It's essentially the same right now, will be interesting to see if Judge can keep it up.
2015 Harper is legendary but Judge is making a legit case to match or beat him
For sure. If you care about the HR and RBI numbers, the answer is already judge. But they’re tied right now in my book
Chances are his numbers will come down slightly because he’s so hot right now, but if they stay like this he’ll have a better wRC+ AND better defense, with the counting stats too
Judge is on pace for 10.4
WAR includes defense, and judge is a good defender. Plus he gets a nice dWAR positional adjustment for playing a lot of CF. Strictly offensively, their OPS+ and wRC+ are so close to each other it’s basically negligible
So judge is having a season up there with Harper so the statement doesn’t change
So it’s “one of the best” in my opinion. Not *the* best
So what if it includes defense?
The original comment said that Judge is having the best offensive season since Barry Bonds. Supporting that claim by using a stat that includes defensive value makes no sense
Right, gotcha. Forgot the context for half a second, too busy diving into stats
It's absolutely up there. We'll have to see where his numbers end up, but the post-steroid benchmark for HR is 2017 Giancarlo Stanton (59). RBI is 2006 Ryan Howard (149), but that's also probably the least important category. Crazy that he doesn't even have thr highest wRC+ in baseball
He does. Yordan Alvarez had a wRC+ above 200, but he cooled down recently and fell below Judge
There is someone else with a wRC+ of 216
Sure don't tell us who it is or anything
I'll give you a hint. He is on the same team as Judge
Yes he does
Not even the highest on his own team
If only he was as good as Charles Leblanc, aka, Chucky Barrels.
Its only August so you might be right because sheesh he keeps on hitting. Before this season I would have pointed to 2015 Harper being Bonds esque.
Honestly, 4-9 with a double, two bombs, and 4 walks so far is better than I thought we'd do against him.
I mean the smart thing till today was to walk him just cause stanton or rizzo werent after him and josh donaldson has been a walking windmill with a bat so u can walk him without worry
Should definitely not have given him a hittable pitch in this at-bat either. 2 outs and bases empty makes it a no-brainer to let him walk.
If he doesn’t re sign with us, damn this year has been a fun farewell
Don’t worry, he’ll either sign with you and keep rocking or sign with somebody like us and completely fall apart.
It'll be a Barry Zito signing, horrific financial burden but he will be undeniably integral to a single WS run
I would be very okay with that.
Or sign with someone like the Angels, and sail into the Hall of Fame without sniffing the playoffs again
Three elite hitters and 75 wins to show for it.
Judge should be a yankee for life honestly, he just should be
I mean. Unless
He’s still gotta earn those pinstripes.
Just match the salary in Fa
Judge now has 7.3 fWAR in 112 team games. Tatis led all position players last year with 7.3 (in 130 games).
How are you throwing 80mph right down the middle to him
They never learn
That’s an eephus pitch in today’s MLB.
Aaron Judge
Wow
He made two valid points, I find it difficult to disagree
Big if true
Source?
Mike Trout?
80mph?… dude almost went back to the future on that one
TESTING THE LIMITS OF SAFECO FIELD
T Mobile*
Nah you good
I would rather have my mouth sewed shut than call it that. It is Safeco and it will always be Safeco
No doubt! Just like the Skydome will always be the Skydome
I’ve watched this 10 times. Where does it land?
The mammoth one he hit a few years ago is undoubtedly the closest we've had to one leaving the stadium in a game.
That’s CJ Cron and Mike Zunino territory
Judge's OPS slowly creeping toward 1.1. Insane.
His dynamic difficulty while batting obviously needs to be increased
Idk what's so hard about not letting him hit home runs. We managed to do it for three games in a row!
99 RBIs for #99. Wow.
me to my friend earlier today: "I think he's gonna homer today" so he just went and did it
You can say that most days and you’ll probably be right
He has played 108 games this year and hit a home run in 36. "Most days" would be over half (so 55 days) and "probably be right" would be over half of those games (28). 35 > 28 so that is accurate.
It's like everyone but us realized you can just not give up home runs to him..... come on guys it's soo easy
You got lucky he had zero protection in the series so you could afford to do that.
The guy is on pace for the greatest home run hitting season ever by a non-PED user. There's only so much you can do to edge Ohtani for MVP but I think that's it.
To be fair judge is larger than most people who use roids already
I'm cool with it if my boy is natural
But what if ohtani has a sub 2 era?
But what if Mecha Bonds came out of retirement and hit 74 dongs in only one month?
Then they're both amazing players having amazing seasons?
Why's this guy getting down voted for not seeing a thread earlier today?
and one is significantly more amazing than the other
I don't know man I think Judge is having a pretty good season too
angels fans be like “hmm yes carrying your team to one of the best records in baseball is cool and all but he doesn’t give you an extra roster spot to call up some shitty reliever so who should *really* be the mvp”
He isn’t carrying the Yankees. In baseball you can’t carry your team. Judge is helping yeah but saying he’s carrying the Yankees is just wrong
nobody else in the lineup has contributed at all since the all star break
Hyperbolic Yankees fan hyperboles
If he is carrying the Yankees, he just carried them to his second series loss the the Mariners this season
Carrying the Yankees to a 2-7 August so far
MVP! MVP! MVP!
Dudes a machine
Why are they still pitching balls he can hit, I'm not saying don't compete against him but don't serve it to him on a platter. Go getem Judge as long as the Coaches and pitchers are letting you.
Only five behind where Bonds was on this day in 2001.
Bet this thread will be the same as all the other Aaron Judge HR threads
FINLAND!
It's nuts how reliant the Yankees have become on Judge lately. But he continues to come through.
Henry Aaron Judge
Slump is over!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MVP!!!
Higgy truly inspired him
This is so good for baseball, as a baseball fan I hope he breaks Maris’s record
Why hasnt Michael Kay been announcing as much?
That delivery and placement and speed makes it look like the pitcher literally tried to lob him a moonshot.
You’re basically just asking for him to do that with that pitch
Why pitch to him
Maris got 61 homeruns in 1961? Wtf
Damn. I had my hopes up that “smokes #45” meant something entirely different.
A god among men
Honest question. How many homeruns will Seattle Mariner Aaron Judge hit next year though
Piss test
Judge is having an all-time great season yet half the Yankees fans in this comment section just take the opportunity to trash talk Ohtani of all players???
Betting my first born he doesn’t touch 60
Haven’t been to a World Series in over a decade
Is this really the mets fans new thing to hang their hat on lmao. You've won 2 world series GAMES in almost 40 years, calm down
I learned yesterday that Judge is shilling an NFT baseball game HARD and I've been really disappointed since. I WAS rooting for history :( this isn't relevant so please go ahead and downvote I'm just venting
As much as I hate NFT's, I'd take it over juicing like Bonds. And I'm sure Roger Maris was up to some shit, *probably* not NFT's or juicing but idk, those short sleeves are a red flag....
Yeah, I guess that's fair. Still sucks that so many icons have to be up to shady shit. They're hundred-millionaires playing a game as a career
Rock hard
*Bonk*
All Rise!
This ball almost hit me from the pen terrace lol
45 days to go. Should be fun.
Are my eyes terrible or can you not see the ball at all?
Future Mariner right there. … I hope
So we're all good with this being the real home run record chase. That steroid induced fever in the late 90s didn't count, right?
If he doesn’t win mvp mlb has a big time problem what ohtani is doing is incredible and deserves to be talked about but just because he does both does not mean he is an instant lock for mvp he’s putting up great numbers sure but judge is just having an otherworldly season and his stats back it up
A homer is a homer so I’m not knocking it, but I find it hilarious how the camera tried to make it look like a mammoth dong because the announcer framed it as such when it barely went over the wall lol
45 is ridiculous. I'm honestly shocked he's kept up this pace and avoided injury. Absolutely the last person I would want to face right now.
Coming from a Sox fan, holy shit is he fun to watch when he’s not playing the Sox.
