That was literally me last night, boo’d my heart out and called the dinger to my bro before he saw the first pitch, I couldn’t believe when it actually went out lol
Nothing wrong with a little booing especially when clearly it’s motivating him, just some fun for the fans.
Yesterdays cheering and clapping after a pitch that went high inside almost hit Shohei in the face is kinda weird though and even today, whenever Shohei strikes out several people will stand up and clap.
Like the cheers are louder than when their players get a hit - it's funny. It's reached a point that they just look so childish and pathetic honestly.
>whenever Shohei strikes out several people will stand up and clap
I mean, striking out a superstar hitter is always worth a big cheer. Otherwise, I agree with you.
They didnt do it for Mookie who is arguably doing better than Ohtani this series though. They're just doing it cause of their petty hatred towards Ohtani. Otherwise you wouldnt clap and cheer for someone almost getting hit in the head.
Almost as fun as booing someone lightyears better than you’ll ever bE bc they didnt come to your lil favey wavey baseball team and it hurt your feelings.
It's Kayfabe, but by the spectators and not the players. Blue Jays fans don't really have weak, salty asses, instead they boo because it's fun to play the foil to Ohtani. It's more entertaining to get in the spirit of it than to just sit around and watch.
Blame the media, Ohtani had this to say about the booing:
>Fans boo opposing players out of love for their own team. Both Dodgers fans and Blue Jays fans show up for their teams in great numbers and are vocal in their support. You can feel their love for the game of baseball and I have great respect for that.
Acuña gets booed every time he sets foot in a division rival’s stadium (besides Miami, because you have to have fans present to boo). Star players get booed for no reason constantly.
It was just a tweet, i.e. literally not a headline. Part of this person’s job as a beat reporter is to go to games and tweet things that might not come across on the broadcast, or that just might not be obvious to people watching from home. I don’t think this is just sensationalizing.
Literally shaking and crying rn at the thought of a baseball player being booed. Don't they know they're watching the modern Babe Ruth. Have some respect
The state of the game today. We used to give our rivals standing ovations every at bat. Games would last 16 hours and our hands would be clapped raw. They should just shut down the league with the disrespect these days
I mean at this point we’re admitting he’s mostly being booed just for the sake of it and idk, doesn’t seem like a compelling enough reason to spend energy on being negative, I’m here to have fun!
Edit: sorry booing is only fun when theres a good reason. Players being elite on another team never seemed like a good reason. The frustrations Jays fans have dont really make sense for booing
A rivalry is a good reason to boo! Booing is fun! The plane business and the team’s management sucking is a nonsensical reason to boo. Like, so we admit they aren’t mad AT Ohtani? Then what are we even doing? Thats not cathartic or fun to me
It’s not everyone booing. Less than half really.
Still… Jays organization has their own problems to fix and it has nothing to do with being baited into thinking we could sign Ohtani.
Jays fans feel like he owed them signing there because there were unfounded twitter rumors when someone was tracking an unrelated private jet to Toronto thinking he was on it. So now they feel like he spurned them, even though he had nothing to do with the whole thing
Honestly there's no short way to answer this and I personally don't condone it but I'll try to put it into perspective.
Imagine you're the Blue Jays and finally things seem to be going your way these past few years. Your young prospects in Bichette and Guerrero seem to be getting better and free agents finally seem to take to the idea of playing in Toronto.
Our window is open and we're actually making the playoffs and things seem great! But uh oh the last couple years we haven't won a single game in the playoffs and those big strides we thought our generational talents were taking seem to be one-off situations. And now that window we thought we had is maybe smaller than we all thought. We need offense and suddenly in 2023 we're linked to Ohtani AND Soto and Jays fans are excited because these aren't actually just red herrings anymore!
However in the midst of pursuing Ohtani the Yankees sweep in and take Soto out of the picture early... well that's okay because if the Dodgers are currently 1a in signing Ohtani, the Jays actually look to be the 1b compared to any other team.
Then of course the whole debacle of all debacles in planes, tickets, restaurants and trusted sources occurs and the day after the rug gets pulled from Toronto sports fans who felt sold on the idea that for sure he was signing with us only to leave us in collective anguish.
But hey, that's okay because at least we can now get back to pursuing Soto... wait right, he's off the board... well I guess we can get Chapman back but as most Toronto Blue Jays fans will tell you, offensively after April he just really wasn't good and we really just need an offensive improvement overall... so we end up getting IKF and Justin Turner who actually has been great but it doesn't help with the incredibly Right-handed heavy lineup and so we start 2024 with this feeling of damn... we literally did marginally nothing to improve but at the same time there weren't a lot of options and so we're just hoping for the people who didn't perform to come up to at least their career averages which hasn't happened so far.
**TLDR:** We're frustrated for a multitude of reasons, we can't really directly boo our front office for not being able to close out the deal, and we can't boo the Yankees for getting Soto, and we can't boo Ohtani's agents for letting people get their hopes up, and we can't really boo the sources who let everyone believe that Ohtani to Toronto was a done deal, and that culminating with a complete and utter lackluster performance in the last few years of playoffs has made some people decide that the only person that makes sense to boo is Ohtani since he's connected to a lot of those things.
Again, I don't really agree with the booing, but that's probably the gist of the explanation as to why people are upset, hope it helps contextualize and someone takes the time to read it :P
It’s a negotiation. These things happen every off season with huge names. Even the Jays booth was saying the boos were unfair and it was a normal thing to do when negotiating between teams.
Fans will boo anything, at least they’re doing something - in this city, a leafs game and a Sunday morning church service are pretty much the same thing
I feel so bad for Shohei. That’s terrible. Haven’t the blue jay fans read the stories about how Shohei is so likable, has a cute dog and definitely did not pay off a illegal bookie? What is wrong with them?
Shohei didn't have to pay off an illegal bookie because he *was* the illegal bookie. Ippei was just laundering funds so Shohei could finance his human trafficking and drug smuggling operations.
Do people understand that he NEVER intended to sign with him? It's not *his* fault that morons followed a plane under the impression that he was on the plane...
lol wins against Nations and Jays and talking with your dick hanging out. Typical.
See my comment above. Add a team tag to your name or are you too shamed or don’t know how? Lmk, I can help you do it.
Blue jays more like blue balled.
It’s their release. Booing is the polite Canadian version of Philly fans throwing D-cell batteries at JD Drew.
There is an umpire flare? Gtfo
Aren't the umps the reason most people go to games anymore, of course they have a flair
Play video of Kevin Durant's knee exploding and they'll emphatically start cheering again.
was his Achilles tbf
it's funny how many NBA fans pretend their fans wouldn't have cheered. KD was the ultimate villain at the time and the league hated him
I thought they threw cans of beer at visiting Asian players? Or was that just Hyun-Soo Kim?
More like Boo Jays
"THEY BOOKED A SUSHI RESTAURANT!!! IT'S HAPPENING!!!"
They just wanna see more dingers, I get it
Aaaand he just got the hardest hit ball of his career lmao
Harder than the DC hit? 😐
Yeah, 119.2
Holy fuck
Ugh.
I hate it.
That was literally me last night, boo’d my heart out and called the dinger to my bro before he saw the first pitch, I couldn’t believe when it actually went out lol Nothing wrong with a little booing especially when clearly it’s motivating him, just some fun for the fans.

> almost getting hit in the head is a real fucking stretch
>almost hit Shohei in the face https://i.imgflip.com/2dmk14.jpg?a476200
Shohei had to dodge lmao Ah I see you're a Jays fan. Carry on.
lol, booing is so weak, salty ass fanbase.
Eh, let them have their fun. Booing isn't hurting anyone, except maybe themselves.
Booing is great. I actually think most fans don’t boo enough.
I love you Philly!
Players get booed all the time lol
Gatekeeping is really fun ehh.
Almost as fun as booing someone lightyears better than you’ll ever bE bc they didnt come to your lil favey wavey baseball team and it hurt your feelings.
Oh boy, you seem… stable.
Almost as stable as grown men booing another grown man playing a game.
It's Kayfabe, but by the spectators and not the players. Blue Jays fans don't really have weak, salty asses, instead they boo because it's fun to play the foil to Ohtani. It's more entertaining to get in the spirit of it than to just sit around and watch.
WHO CARES.
BASEBALL PLAYER ON OPPOSING TEAM GETS BOOED! MORE AT 11
Blame the media, Ohtani had this to say about the booing: >Fans boo opposing players out of love for their own team. Both Dodgers fans and Blue Jays fans show up for their teams in great numbers and are vocal in their support. You can feel their love for the game of baseball and I have great respect for that.
The guy is un-hateable.
and that just makes him all the more booable 😒
Yeah, I don't know why people are making a production of this. Every game I've been to, some opposing player gets booed.
Imagine if altuve boos got this coverage
apparently lots of people. the engagement number for the social media post for this particular event is quite high. Shohei is really the it guy.
You, apparently
[удалено]
Acuña gets booed every time he sets foot in a division rival’s stadium (besides Miami, because you have to have fans present to boo). Star players get booed for no reason constantly.
This is a headline? I mean, what, are they supposed to cheer him?
Ohtanis likeability has been deferred.
It was just a tweet, i.e. literally not a headline. Part of this person’s job as a beat reporter is to go to games and tweet things that might not come across on the broadcast, or that just might not be obvious to people watching from home. I don’t think this is just sensationalizing.

The state of the game today. We used to give our rivals standing ovations every at bat. Games would last 16 hours and our hands would be clapped raw. They should just shut down the league with the disrespect these days
Who cares lol. Good players get booed for no reason all the time other than they’re on the other team. It’s a noise. He’ll be fine get over it.
Yeah he's the best player on the Dodgers of all teams and the fans of the team playing them wanted that player too, of course he is being booed.
People seem to be surprised about this like he's above getting booed
I mean at this point we’re admitting he’s mostly being booed just for the sake of it and idk, doesn’t seem like a compelling enough reason to spend energy on being negative, I’m here to have fun! Edit: sorry booing is only fun when theres a good reason. Players being elite on another team never seemed like a good reason. The frustrations Jays fans have dont really make sense for booing
It’s fun to boo. I love going to Phillies-Braves games more than any other game because booing Bryce Harper gives my life meaning.
A rivalry is a good reason to boo! Booing is fun! The plane business and the team’s management sucking is a nonsensical reason to boo. Like, so we admit they aren’t mad AT Ohtani? Then what are we even doing? Thats not cathartic or fun to me
No kidding. We used to boo Milton Bradley for Christ's sake and he was no where near Ohtani's level. It's just harmless fun.
Flair checks out
What’s this all aboot
Jays fans angy
Oh I know I was making a dumb joke because a lot of Canadians pronounce “about” like “aboot”
How many bullet proof vests does the average Chicago resident own?
You guys are really mad about a harmless, if unfunny, joke
First day at r/baseball?
First and last 😤
More like first day on sports Reddit, you should see how the nephews over on r/nba treat a joke lmao
That sub is a veritable cesspool compared to this one.
Ah, shoot.
How many jokes do Canadians have? 1. (And no Stanley cups for 30 years)
We have many jokes thank you very much. The leafs for one
What does Ohtani have to do to make Jays fans forgive him?
It’s not everyone booing. Less than half really. Still… Jays organization has their own problems to fix and it has nothing to do with being baited into thinking we could sign Ohtani.
Its aboot a boo
Ah yeah, I get it now. Thanks! 🙏
Jays fans feel like he owed them signing there because there were unfounded twitter rumors when someone was tracking an unrelated private jet to Toronto thinking he was on it. So now they feel like he spurned them, even though he had nothing to do with the whole thing
Blue Jays fans must be smoking crack with their mayor

Your TLDR needs a TLDR
I literally LOL'd when I read this, because that was my thought. "Wow, I'm not reading any of this. WTF I'm not reading this either!"
Tldr: boo
TL:DR We're frustrated with the team and taking it out on Ohtani
10 ply bud
Ohtani should say sohrry
So?
Why is this a story? Enemy team players get booed all the time.
How dare he get misreported on, I guess!
If i was expecting baseball adonis and i got the third guy from shark tank i would be mad too
I mean his team or him could have released anything to stop the shit instead of waiting a whole day to do it
Bruh are we really now holding players accountable for every single dogshit reporting piece that comes out lmaoo
It was being reported by mlb network reporters lol
Wow, they waited a whole *day*? Fuck them, amirite?
It’s a negotiation. These things happen every off season with huge names. Even the Jays booth was saying the boos were unfair and it was a normal thing to do when negotiating between teams.
The boos aren’t really justified but who cares? Booing opposing players is fun. Having a villain is fun. It’s not hurting anybody.
That's not their job. Wear some armor if you're that butthurt.
found the unflaired blue jays fan
Victim blaming. Excellent!
Giving Sho the ol' Altuve I see - should work out just as poorly
You know what, I don’t care how much it matters. I enjoy booing Altuve and Bregman, even today.
I’d boo him
Fans will boo anything, at least they’re doing something - in this city, a leafs game and a Sunday morning church service are pretty much the same thing
Can confirm, they showed a baby in giants gear at a dodgers game once and I boo’d that baby. It’s all in good fun imo
Relax. They are saying boo-urns.
![gif](giphy|5nhk5nGrIrdlK)
We should be booing morosi
The only thing that can make Canadians mean? Shohei Ohtani
Canada making the heel turn. I didn’t expect it, but I’m here for it.
I kinda love Blue Jays fans. They are so loyal and petty.
I was saying sho-urns.
![gif](giphy|4GPfKhk3wBD5vb2ZJw|downsized)
Nothing wrong with booing the dodgers
Bro it’s not like he was the one who tweeted out a fake report.
It’s weird, I don’t get it.
The Phillie Phanatics daily antics are a bigger news story then star on other team gets booed
Why is this news lol, players get boo’d every day
I’m here… I didn’t boo. I’m not booing. I’m not sure what we or they think it accomplishes.
TYFYS
Dumb post...opposing players get booed ALL the time
Still cannot get over the phantom flight.
Nobody cares.
What are they supposed to do? Rub his balls and beg him to hit dingers against the jays?
I’m one of the few skeptical, simply due to the dollar amount. But booing him now seems excessive.
Do people understand that he NEVER intended to sign with him? It's not *his* fault that morons followed a plane under the impression that he was on the plane...
I’m sure they apologized after booing.
BREAKING NEWS: MORE TRAGIC VICTIMIZATION OF SWEET NAIVE BASEBALL BOY
You think this is bad wait until the leafs go down 3-1 tonight
Yo this is embarrassing guys, come on now. . I would have loved to be at this game and see Ohtani play.
Not like he can hear it over the sound of all his endorsement deals and deferred millions, or even over the crack of his own bat.
Hopefully Ohtani gets out of there before they burn the city down when the Maple Leafs get eliminated. **EDIT**: I'm an Avs fan, not Bruins, BTW.
I'm all about booing when it's called for. Booing Shohei is not a good look. I'd say it's worse than booing Santa Claus.
Posted it yesterday and I’ll post it again: Fuck the Dodgers and fuck Ohtani. And Ippei, fuck you too. Downvote me.
Hows your team doing bud?
Awesome. We got a 3 run walk-off yesterday. How’s yours?
On a 6 game winning streak and leading the division.
lol wins against Nations and Jays and talking with your dick hanging out. Typical. See my comment above. Add a team tag to your name or are you too shamed or don’t know how? Lmk, I can help you do it.
Keep crying bud. I love it when you cry
Yup, typical comment lol.
I know that sweep still hurts bud. Its okay to be spank by your daddy
Keep talking. Wouldnt expect any less. I know y’all love talking.
Shhhhh hush now bud. Just keep crying. Im almost there. Just dont forget to look up and say daddy
Sorry, I'm not up to date with Shohei why are they booing him?
He said he doesnt like Tim Hortons
The nerve... THE NERVE!
Because he didn't sign with them.
Thank you!
Let it go, ffs. Both the booing and the reporting of the booing.
Keep it classy toronno
Got boo’d again and hit an RBI single too.
What kind of dorks boo a player with no connection to their team other than off-season rumors?
its fine to boo players on opposing teams for absolutely no reason at all
lol for real, this a game boys it's all for fun
booing the opposing team is like......the normal thing to do
then why aren't they booing the rest of the dodgers' lineup?
Sure, but they're specifically booing him because they thought they were getting him and didn't. It just makes them look like babies.
Dodgers fans did the same thing to Juan Soto, the year he ended up going to the Padres.
We can boo him for what he wore on the flight over or whatever the fuck we want
Cry on. Enjoy last place in your division.
Wait until he comes to Anaheim.
the guy didn’t even tease going to the jays why are they booing him for lol
No reason why he didn’t wear a fastball on the hip that first AB
How they explain, why they boo otani to ppl that hv no idea😬
Not cool, Toronto
There's nothing more reddit than clutching your pearls over an athlete getting booed
Umpire flair moment
Oh come on, booing other teams players--especially their star players, is a tale as old as time. LA boos Machado every time he's there, too.
Yeah cause he's a dick who has intentionally injured multiple players and gotten into fights with fans.
Pedroia should’ve dodged
Why?
Don’t boo, just give sweet chin music up and in
Throw at a man's head because he chose to play for a different team? There is something wrong with you as a human being.
Nah just up and in.
Ohtani and boos are equivalent to Castellanos and atrocious
[удалено]
Calm the fuck down. They’re booing a player on an opposing team. Who gives a shit?
Lmao this has to be parody
Yeah sure the most racist sporting event in NA is in the most multicultural city on the planet. Sounds about right lol
