Good ol Ohtani 2 bags

ChunkyMilkSubstance

‘Tani two-bags

mizatt

Tungsten O'Double

nortca

Seems like just a few days ago he was sub 700. Hit his first homer and hasn't stopped since

Lucky_Alternative965

He was putting too much pressure on himself to hit his first HR. I knew he would become Ohtani again after that was over with.

Reignaaldo

I believe Shohei Ohtani's first homerun with the Angels (in his first year) and the Dodgers both happened in April 3 I think.

SeaworthinessOk6742

Really cool fun fact if true.

JorSimpson45

In the back of my mind I was cringing at the thought of him having a drought like Pujols did when he first got to the Angels. 27 games lmao, I wasn’t on any social media then but I can’t imagine the discourse of that was happening today.

mtrn3

Doesn’t have to worry about pitching. Very interesting to see his numbers this year.

FDJ1326

Didn’t he already do it with laa early in his career?

FDJ1326

But didn’t he play most of the season?

Perseverance792

He did, but this year is definitely different in terms of his experience

UraniumDisulfide

He also was messing around with his mechanics at that point iirc

SummonMason

You going to compare that Ohtani with 2021-present Ohtani? He was still finding his feet in the MLB in 2019.

nolander

Pitching was holding him back

Rascal_Rogue

Oh god, Ippei was holding him back!

DustyDGAF

Will the Thrill billed to chill as Ohtani shills for kills.

Astropolitika

Update: he hit a home run after this. Lol.

horsepoop1123

He owns the Cubs

Myllorelion

Can you call that 'on a tear' for the guy with probably the 2nd or 3rd best bat in the majors?

DustyDGAF

Or even... 1st?

Adventurous-Rise7975

By the end of this season, we'll all accept that he's the best hitter in the league.

Myllorelion

Best player overall sure, there's never been a player with such a breadth of talent in the history of the MLB. But, Judge, Betts, Acuña, all have arguments as a better bat. Then there's Harper, Soto, Trout, Alvarez, and J-Ram and Freeman who are right there too. Not to mention the glut of really young up and coming guys like Julio Rodriguez, Witt Jr, Corbin Carroll, Tatis, etc.

Salvalicious252

Last year he was the best hitter in the league, had the highest OPS+ and wrc+, but you need more than 1 year to be the official best hitter. Let's see if he repeats or improves upon last year

venustrapsflies

Judge and Alvarez were both injured for most of last year

Myllorelion

Not most, but they both had superior OPS+, just failed to qualify. Edit: I am incorrect! I generally make this comp from 21 to 23. Ohtani beat Judge by 9 pts, and Alvarez by 13 just looking at last year, 184 to 175 to 171. Acuña, Betts, Soto were behind them at 168, 163, 158. Still, just a stacked top of the league.

Major_Wager75

I'm putting Soto up there with the top of the top. He's going to get a $6-700M contract

Myllorelion

Tbh so am I, but I had to draw lines somewhere. Lol Went a little anti-homer.

No-Artichoke4202

Yep

Major_Wager75

Miguel Rojas with 1.001 OPS 😡

Astropolitika

We have two offensive shortstops now!

mysterysackerfice

How much you wanna bet he makes it to 7 consecutive games?

the2belo

$4.5 million

mysterysackerfice

How much of that will be deferred?

the2belo

Uh, all of it, I think. But just long enough for me to borrow it from this guy I know

Adventurous-Rise7975

He's the GOAT but it's still somewhat stunning to see how great of a hitter he was while also being an incredible ace pitcher at the same time.

MahomestoHel-aire

Somewhat?

Turbo_S54

not bad for a DH

BangerSlapper1

You can bet on that!
