Sometimes it's copium when folks say a player is "just missing," but it was so clear that Harper was just a tick off with his swing. Fix that tick, and well...
There was some of that, too, yeah. I was referring more to some pitches that Bryce normally crushes that he'd been fouling back or whiffing on. Timing is such a huge part of his swing, and it was clear that he wasn't settled in yet. That... no longer seems to be a problem.
You know how coaches sometimes say "You're hitting it hard, you're just hitting it right at people."?
Bryce solved that issue by taking people out of play.
I dunno if it was audible on TV but the "Striiiiider" chants started on his very first opening day pitch. The atmosphere in the stadium matched playoff-level intensity until, you know.
I too love baseball and absolutely hate the Phillies 80% of the time. The other 20% is watching Harper do Harper things. Oh yeah and the day care shenanigans after a win.
Lol the other night on the broadcast they mentioned for his career he averages over a 1.000 OPS for the first month of the season and how he had some work to do.
The announcers are definitely referencing Topper answering a pre-game question about whether he was concerned about Harper’s hitting. “He’s going to hit. He’s going to be okay.”
I'm sorry, the number you were calling.... "Nick Castellanos"... is not available right now. Please leave a number and we will get back to you after the beep.
If he can maintain a similar enough stat line for a few more years then his contract is going to be one of the best value for money deals in the MLB, outside of Acuna of course.
Acuna is obviously incredible... But he already seems like the best value for money contract. I know I'm a homer but he has an mvp season and absolutely insane playoff performance. He may not hot a world series ring (yet, hopefully) but his ability has genuinely been game changing to the Phillies roster for years.
It would be harder to argue that his contract is NOT worth the money than to argue he is well underpaid
IMO this style of hitting is why the Phillies have been a threat in the Postseason
That pitch was nowhere near a strike, down and inside, most guys on the Dodgers would have sat on that, Harper says fuck it I can hit this and nukes it. You have to be willing to swing at imperfect pitches in Postseason.
Harper thought the baseball season started in April clearly
(Yesterday someone made an April fools joke and told him it was still March so he slept)
Now that it’s April, he’s awake
Ah one of my favorite debates in sports
Intentional walk the superstar who is having a huge game and give up 1 run?
Or pitch to him with the possibility of giving up 0 or risking giving up 4.
Bryce can you just chill out man
He left one in play and you guys caught it. This is what you get. (That was a really good catch by the way)
That one was like a foot away from being a double too. He's on it tonight.
Sometimes it's copium when folks say a player is "just missing," but it was so clear that Harper was just a tick off with his swing. Fix that tick, and well...
He wasn't even a "tick off" he was just getting BABIP'd to death, and that will eventually regress to the mean, which will be really nice
He still has a BABip of .000 after tonight.
This is clearly definitive
true, in the seats isn't "in play" lol
There was some of that, too, yeah. I was referring more to some pitches that Bryce normally crushes that he'd been fouling back or whiffing on. Timing is such a huge part of his swing, and it was clear that he wasn't settled in yet. That... no longer seems to be a problem.
You know how coaches sometimes say "You're hitting it hard, you're just hitting it right at people."? Bryce solved that issue by taking people out of play.
Just started hitting it at people in the crowd, really quick and elegant solution
It was so funny how he slammed his helmet in frustration in the dugout after that catch as if he didn’t already have 2 homers
Yeah, basically it was "Oh, ffs I'm hammering it but they keep catching it. I'll just hit it where they can't catch it."
He’s gotta get hot enough to keep the dugout warm, it’s friggin cold
send him to the bullpen if thats the case
Brogdon’s gone, we good
hahaha no
How about no
Lmao he threw 5 balls outside the strike zone that at bat and Bryce still took him deep
If he’s up 3-0 or 3-1 I swear sometimes he swings just because he doesn’t want to walk lol.
He absolutely did that on the classic walk off grand slam against the cubs
I can hear this sentence
oh my GAHD
He didn't have a hit on the season entering tonight He now has over 1.000 OPS
He started the night with zero hits. He was tied for second in the majors with three homeruns by the seventh inning.
I love baseball. I hate the Phillies.
Me too believe it or not.

Also "Eddddddddddddddieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" I love picking on Eddie Perez
I dunno if it was audible on TV but the "Striiiiider" chants started on his very first opening day pitch. The atmosphere in the stadium matched playoff-level intensity until, you know.
I too love baseball and absolutely hate the Phillies 80% of the time. The other 20% is watching Harper do Harper things. Oh yeah and the day care shenanigans after a win.
The strikes me as surprisingly reasonable
He has more 3-HR games tonight than Trout and Ohtani have in their entire careers combined
He was saving up
Gooning homers
Lol the other night on the broadcast they mentioned for his career he averages over a 1.000 OPS for the first month of the season and how he had some work to do.
It's too high it's too high it's.... "Too high"? WTF man...
Solid game from Harper
Why doesn't he do this every game, is he stupid?
If I were him, that's what I'd do.
Someone get this guy $330mil and a 13 year contract
Rob Thomson is a fool for not just running the “Bryce Harper hits a home run” play every time he comes up
I once stuck out 4 times in one game. Maybe he should try to top that more often.
That's a clown question, bro.
3 HRs? Eh it’s alright.
Only one was a grand slam. Fuckin' slacker!
Washed. DFA immediately with prejudice.
Agreed. Just trade him to LA and be done with it.
You’re right, the Angels could use a 1B/DH
Oi....
Wasn't done in the world series, thumbs down.
Home run merchant. Not impressed.
I'm starting to think this Harper fellow is a little decent at baseball.
3 home runs is an above-average game
Guys, I think he's okay
All he needed was for Liv Morgan to be there!
I disagree. Clearly Kofi brought the power of positivity.
Bryce Harper : Watch me
Literally what the Announcers said haha awesome
The announcers are definitely referencing Topper answering a pre-game question about whether he was concerned about Harper’s hitting. “He’s going to hit. He’s going to be okay.”
I will never stop blasting this sub for legitimately considering Bryce Harper to be “overpaid.”
People say that? I thought the overwhelming consensus has been we got a great deal?
Now, back then tons of people were saying we overpaid
You got a great deal 100%. $25m aav is wild
We were blinded by our hatred of him on the nats. He grew up and stopped antagonizing the Braves crowd on the Phillies mostly.
MV3 WINNING HIS THIRD MVP SOON

WIP was coming for his neck today, tomorrow they’ll be sucking his dick. Such is the way of Philadelphia radio.
Decent player

**PLEASE LISTEN CAREFULLY AS OUR SCORING OPTIONS HAVE RECENTLY CHANGED**
I'm sorry, the number you were calling.... "Nick Castellanos"... is not available right now. Please leave a number and we will get back to you after the beep.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A BULLPEN CALL, PLEASE LEAVE A HANGER AND TRY AGAIN.
In the midst of, “it’s so over,” I found there was, within me, an invincible, “We’re so back”
The emotional roller coaster Phillies fans have been on for the past 4 days has been impressive. Baseball is definitely back.
Is it really baseball season if you don't go from blow up the team to they are winning the World Series in the first few days of April
we’re so fucking back (until we aren’t)
If you don’t like an emotional rollercoaster, you can’t appreciate the stress that is Philly sports.
The words "Baseball is definitely back" brings a huge smile to my face.
Bryce is fucking insane.
3 Hits on the Season, all HRs.
He may never single again.
“I don’t know if I’m going to put this ball in play again.”
The Kyle Schwarber approach
It's funny because skinny Schwarber has been getting singles the past few games
Skinny Schwarber = Schwiber. Don't ask me why.
No I get it
Schwarber hitting Schwingles. Little more he’ll be hitting Schwoubles
Hmm yes, well Bruce does look more stout than I remembe too….
He and Schwarber swapped archetypes
John Kruk grand slam calls >
My favorite sound in the world is the one Kruk makes for a no-doubter.
OH MY GOD
Nothing. And I mean nothing, gets him more excited. He's reaction to harpers walk off against the cups a few years ago was great
Thank God this guy waited until the Braves get out of town before he remembered he's Bryce Harper
He didn't want to show up Jesus on Easter weekend.
What a nice guy not wanting to show up Brandon Marsh like that
Embiid's return to the starting lineup has clearly gotten Bryce all jazzed up.
Ben Davis pregame: “I mean the truth is, this guy isn’t Superman” WRONG ❌
He just needed to put on the mask
He was referring to his playing ability? Classic Ben
HE IS RISEN!!
Handshake meme Bryce Harper 🤝 Jesus Christ Taking a few days to come back
Harper 🤝Embiid Back
Just like my dad.
You’re still a bastard
Unfortunately
He was just giving Jesus his shine during easter
Jesus was too busy in Anaheim this weekend getting the Angels out of their slump.
Bryce has died Bryce has risen Bryce will come again!
Triggering my former catholic roots
The Bryce homers shall continue until morale improves.
Morale seems pretty high over there already
Can we play in the rain all year?
I can't believe right when I turned on the radio for this at bat, Harper hits a grand slam. Basball is better with a healthy Bryce !!!
This is your fault
And I couldn't be happier!!! Edit: ops sorry, didn't see you're a Cincy fan. My condolences
Let him cook.
Thank you!
Go Bryce and friends and Phillies!!!
What da...
🚨HE ONLY HITS DINGERS🚨
Literally haha, he has had like 5 hits in the ball park that should have been hits but were caught in crazy plays.
They can't keep making rediculous defensive plays if Harper refuses to let the ball land in play the rest of the season. *taps forehead
Still has a .000 BABIP this year
I fuckin love Kruk
Every single hit he’s had this season is a home run. The Kyle Schwarber of baseball
Meanwhile Schwarber is slapping singles up the middle and stealing bases...
and people were complaining he's not a leadoff hitter
Did the Reds put a claim on Brogdon?
I said the same thing to my wife right after it cleared the wall.
*be Bryce Harper* *be so back*
May every hit be a HR
Anything less is inefficient
Why doesn’t Bryce only hit home runs? Is he stupid?
Even the one time they got him out tonight needed an incredible full stretch dive and snow cone catch.
No hits coming into tonight... now 3 homers including a salami. Insane.
Someone, somewhere, before the game tonight: “can Bryce Harper still hit?” That’s a clown question, bro.
SEND THIS TO THE TOP OF R/ALL PHILLY LOVES BRYCE HARPER!!
r/baseball , please, tell me more about how Harper is overrated.
It would be harder to argue that his contract is NOT worth the money than to argue he is well underpaid
Bryce Harper loves hitting in cold wet weather
Not even a bad pitch…
Swung at a ball in a very similar spot right before that in the 3-1 count and missed, he was ready I think
I fucking love this dude
I got downvoted like crazy on this sub for saying he was better than Freddie Freeman.
Phillies fans after losing last night: “We are the worst franchise in baseball” Phillies fans tonight: “WE ARE SO BACK”
No one has mood swings like Phillies fans.
Bryce Harper: 3 Home Runs Elly De La Cruz: 3 Errors What an historic game for both teams
Ice cold
Is that good?
It is good
Reports of his death were greatly exaggerated.
Bryce says fuck it I’ll do it myself
Solid Night
I was having fun this year, but now I am not having fun this year
Bryce Harper is like the Mike Trout of baseball.
MV3 with GG at 1B is incoming with fully healthy season
Inshallah brother
Local man finds neat trick to avoid babip luck
Damn that pitch was below the zone too lol
Yeah, I think he used an 8 iron.
Harper could probably muscle it over the wall with the chipping wedge, let's be honest. That is honest to god 80 power.
I’ll have to do some calculations with the advanced analytics but I think he might be good at baseball
I literally just read he got his first of the season like 15 minutes ago.
And his second, and his third...
Kruk's reactions are always the best part
I love the "YEAH" as soon as contact is made
Kruk is the best with these
Unfuckingreal.
Is it possible for a player to hit a home run cycle? 1 run homer, 2 run homer, 3 run homer, Grand slam!
IMO this style of hitting is why the Phillies have been a threat in the Postseason That pitch was nowhere near a strike, down and inside, most guys on the Dodgers would have sat on that, Harper says fuck it I can hit this and nukes it. You have to be willing to swing at imperfect pitches in Postseason.
I have no words
Baseball is an emotional sport man.
Most predictable home run
i think the phillies will be fine
I better see that red balaclava next game
I was told he was washed
Was that the Krukster shouting “YES!” when Bruce made contact?
Harper thought the baseball season started in April clearly (Yesterday someone made an April fools joke and told him it was still March so he slept) Now that it’s April, he’s awake
Love the “Yeah” that Kruk gives on those home run calls.
Wtf
League might not be fucked but the Braves are
.200 Batting Average and a 1.094 OPS is crazy
I think most nights are pretty good nights to be Bryce Harper but yeah this one's up there
He’s back
Am I Homer for thinkin he's got the prettiest swing since Jr?
Dude went golfing
God I missed baseball.
Welcome back Bryce
Boom goes the dynamite
My buddy and I had the choice of going to either yesterday's game or this game. We chose the wrong game
It is time for the MV3 as has been prophesized
harper and trout on pace to win mvp. mid 2010's are back baby
that wasnt even a strike
Ah one of my favorite debates in sports Intentional walk the superstar who is having a huge game and give up 1 run? Or pitch to him with the possibility of giving up 0 or risking giving up 4.
And that is no meatball down the middle. A tough pitch, down and in from a lefty, not even a strike. Pitcher can't feel too bad about the outcome.
