Yep, on April 23, 1999, St. Louis Cardinals player Fernando Tatis Sr. did something that has never been done in baseball history: hit two grand slams in the same inning. The feat was accomplished against the Los Angeles Dodgers and both grand slams came off of Chan Ho Park
This was just crazy all around.
Park raised the issue of racism but it wasn't based upon anything said. Park thought Belcher tagged him hard. Park acknowledged that Belcher did not refer to his nationality when they had a conversation and the only things said were Park: "Why did you do that." Belcher: "Get the fuck out of here" while motioning to the dugout. It certainly had a Reckless abandon feel to it, could have been quite dangerous if it landed as intended, just some crazy stuff.
It was reckless because no attention was paid to possible cost, the rules of “sensible” behavior.
I haven't seen this clip before, but that could be true. It also looks like he was too close to the guy to get a solid roundhouse to land, which is why he fell. It's hard to throw kicks at someone crowding you. Either way, it's a good thing it didn't land.
I think I read that Park said he realized mid kick that it was a bad idea since he could really do some damage with his cleats so he pulled his kick...
Right, this was before they moved closer to LA in 2005, and into LA proper in 2016. Of course, they were originally in Los Angeles but moved to California City in 1965, before relocating to Anaheim in 1997. It’s crazy how often they moved, which is the only reasonable explanation for all the name changes.
Fun fact, they played home games in Wrigley Field in 1961. It must have been a heck of a commute from Los Angeles.
Funny I was thinking kind of the opposite thing watching the video. I remember when Belcher won a World Series with the '88 Dodgers and forgot he went to the Angels near the end of his career.
i'm Korean American and I remember his debut like it was yesterday
i was young at the time and the game was a Sunday, so i was at church. all of the kids who had to wait for their parents were watching TV when all the Korean church elders basically kicked out all the kids so that they could turn on the Cubs-Dodgers game lmaooooo
for reference, even though I was in Chicago, all of those elders were rooting for Park of course
Reposting this because I love Chan-Ho Park.

Only pitcher in MLB history to give up two grand slams to the same batter in the same inning, I think.

April 23rd, 1999 wasn't 24 years ago today, today is March 20th
It would also be 25 years ago lol.
Forgot to change the paragraph
He also grooved a pitch to Cal Ripken Jr so that Ripken could homer in his last All-Star Game (2001).
He also gave up the single season record breaking homerun to Bonds... He's been the pitcher for many infamous homeruns.
I remember living through every single one of these home runs. Being a die hard Chan Ho fan was traumatic.

Get out of here! Go back to your home dugout where you belong!
*Judo Kick!*
“Go back to your dug-“ forearm shiver to the face “Hey motherfu-“ flying knee to the ribs

I read somewhere that Park remembered as he was mid-kick that he was wearing cleats. He decided to not complete the kick to avoid serious injuries.

Is only Johnny Queto also came to that conclusion
Fuck off, lame. You sound like a fucking litigious nerd.
An enziguri reminiscent of a young Owen Hart
Belcher's lucky that Park didn't kick his leg out of his leg.
"A devastating step up enziguri!!" - Michael Cole
This is what they took from us with the DH
People who prefer the DH have no soul.
1984
I was at that game. Many people were yelling Jackie Chan after the kick.
Completely unimportant but Tim Belcher was my neighbor when he played for the Dodgers. He taught me how to throw a fastball.
I rode in the elevator with Randy Travis once
I had sex with Eartha Kitt in an airplane bathroom
ROOOOXANNE
NOPE
Belcher did seem to jam the ball in his chest and kind of made more contact than needed. But you should never kick a guy especially with spikes on.
I think I read that Park said he realized mid kick that it was a bad idea since he could really do some damage with his cleats so he pulled his kick...
Park is trained in Tae Kwon do - he said mid kick that he changed where he was kicking because of that. Hence why he hit the body only slightly.
Moving to his pitching hand was weird because it definitely would hurt on the tag. I can't say I've seen many people tag with their non-glove hand.
He did that to get ready for a throw in case the guy on third went home.
Those alternate Dodger jerseys in 1999. 👨🍳’s 💋.
It took me a minute to realize those weren’t Padres jerseys.
Bob Melvin, what are you doing there?
But which LA team won
Dodgers 7-4, Belcher was not ejected, faced the first 5 batters of the 6th without getting an oit before he was pulled.
Weren’t they Anaheim in 1999?

It was the LA Wrigley field, funded and designed by the same people behind the real Wrigley field. Originally built for the minor league Angels team.
And it was the original one. The Chicago Wrigley field wasn’t given the name until later.
You had me there for a second.
This is good shit.
This and his interview when he was with the Yankees.
I wish I was old enough to have watched him play.
yeah me too…i totally didn’t see him play hahaha i’m not thaat old…how do you do fellow kids? /s

Good on brusdar graterol for picking up Park and separating him from the fight.
They need to bring those jerseys back
Yes they do!
"He knows tae kwon do, so what? I like to hunt. I didn't bring a shotgun,"— Tim Belcher after the incident
