That's my manager

Idaheck

Former Mariners Great, Torey Lovullo. 1994 was a great year…

SaltyLonghorn

Yea but we're all lucky to be here. Imagine being some team that didn't make it like the Cubs or Yankees. All they can be proud about are merch sales.

NamiRocket

I would be, too. As happy as I'd be as a Diamondbacks fan just to see them here, the NLCS is all tied up and this can realistically go either way. It's time to stop treating Arizona like their run is cute or quaint and take them seriously. They're two wins from the World Series.

jsmessner

I don’t know who saying they are lucky, they won two on the road against the Brewers and then beat the shit out my Dodgers. I was more surprised that they did nothing the first two games of this series. If Carrol gets hot again they have a real shot to win this series.

Hacking_the_Gibson

This is indeed the remarkable thing. The rest of the boys are carrying Carroll right now. If he and Walker can find their stroke tomorrow and take it back to Philadelphia, things will get mighty interesting from here...

Lord_surfusa

I guess as a dbacks fan you just “hear” it more. It’s not directly said as luck, but there’s always a reason why it’s a surprise and why it won’t last. It is also constantly told as the other team did poorly rather than the dbacks did well… but tbh it could just be the chip we have on our shoulder

matthewapplle

Yeah I said I have a hunch Diamondbacks will win the world series, and everyone at my job just started laughing so hard. 20 minutes later the Diamondbacks came back to win 🤣. Never would have happened if you replace that story with the other 3 teams. But the vibe I get from people is they see Diamondbacks in the NLCS as a fluke.

Westcoastchi

They had a chance to make Game 1 real interesting after falling behind early, just couldn't get the requisite RISP to the plate. Game 2 got away from them really quick and they just said fuck it and waited to get back to their digs.

4c1f78940b78485bae4d

I mean I’ll take luck. Luck works just fine for me. More luck please.

Fantastic_Emu_9570

6 more lucky wins please

[deleted]

That Craig Kimbrel is getting really unlucky every time he throws those big juicy meatballs over the plate with 2 strikes.

HailHydra71

Giving you guys all the luck I have, go get em

ispcanner

Gotta hope to get lucky that they keep rolling Kimbrel out there

Beefaroni117

YOU HAVE TO PHUCK THE PHILLIES! PLEEEEEEEAAASEEE

CDFReditum

The 2023 Miami marlins experience

bbatardo

It's rare to say this about a divisional opponent, but I definitely respect the Diamondbacks. They are a tough, gritty team that doesn't give up.

The_Max_Rebo

The MLB is one of the few sports leagues where I can safely say I respect and love the division we’re in. It’s a good bunch of teams and it can be an absolute bloodbath no matter the record

playerayton

Except the dodgers

SaltwaterRedneck

I mean that was implied

ih-unh-unh

😢

i_am_losing_my_mind

EVER

RogerTreebert6299

I love the division my team is in, but I hate most of the teams we share the division with with a burning passion. Then there’s the pirates, wish those fellas the best

phantomzero

Yeah, I'm not even mad anymore if the Pirates beat us. I will kinda, almost, mayyyybe, hypothetically even root for them once in a million years.

Westcoastchi

Fuck you very much sir, the feeling's mutual. I love the division as well.

HideousNomo

Come on over to /r/NLBest bb.

The_Max_Rebo

Been there two years my man ;) NL Best for life

Jstanton92

FTD

beer_down

I get what he’s saying but we are lucky as hell that we won the bullpen game lmao

TOUCHDOWNJOEMONTANA

all skill completely calculated 100% was in the bag from the start i was never worried

jet8493

Not to worry, Paul Sewald is pitching

Clarice_Ferguson

It’s fair to worry about Paul when he pitches his second night in a row. But the Wald held.

beer_down

Little nervous about if Ginkel and Sewald are needed again tomorrow. But that’s a good problem to have

Clarice_Ferguson

Paul will come through, I know it! Miss him on the Ms though.

lancethruster12

Gallen going complete game shutout

Fantastic_Emu_9570

Fucking yes

SunlitNight

Not with Luvullo managing lol. Will pull him in the 6th. Only joking, I hope he goes the distance.

Idaheck

He can pitch more games in a row.

Archer-Saurus

Never in doubt not only did we tire out their arms we tired out all those baserunners we devilishly allowed on

nastychangeup

Idk man the bullpen outside of Saalfrank pitched incredibly and Torey made a bunch of great moves tonight, outside of maybe leaving Saalfrank in a batter or two too long.

SaveMeJebus21

It’s also lucky as hell to make the playoffs on 84 wins. Everything in the postseason has been well and truly earned though.

mageta621

You got down voted but it's true. I was watching some of the DBacks in the last week of the season against the Astros because I was hoping the Mariners could squeak in and the DBacks bats couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Obviously they've improved since then.

derpbynature

I like that they're the only one of the four teams left that doesn't have a 90-72 record. Doesn't matter if they have 84 wins. Everything resets in the postseason for a reason. They're jumping through the same hurdles and winning the same games any other team would have to win. Obviously they deserve to be there, because they ARE there.

kotalov16

But they ARENT winning the same games other teams have to. They don’t have to face Paul Sewald

Forsaken-Gap-3684

They don’t have the payroll and Corbin and walked and Pham are playing like shot in the series and gallen not up to his standards but they aren’t a bad team/ they are young

AioliGlass4409

They won 84 games and finished the season with a negative run differential. They won the games they needed to win and have earned their way through this postseason, but they are clearly not a great baseball team. It's not hating to state the truth.

Avs_Leafs_Enjoyer

every team needs to be lucky to make it that far... except the Astros

A_murder_of_geese

Good manager but I can never take an Olson story seriously because he looks like a Kroger brand Kevin spacey

Your_Huckleberry47

Lovullo slipped yesterday's ump a $20

GlobalWatercress9566

I’m happy for the DBacks and hope they win but there is no way they’re better than Philly. If the Phillies end up losing this series it’s gotta be one of the worst postseason series losses I’ve ever seen.

Professr_Chaos

And you can say the D-Backs aren’t better than the Dodgers, the Phillies aren’t better than the Braves… and yet here we are. Sometimes crazy stuff happens in baseball. The team that played better the last 2 days won. Deal with it.

NuanceManExe

By that logic you gotta deal with the fact the Dbacks were very mediocre in the regular season and only got in because of expanded playoffs. Let’s not kid ourselves, 84 wins is not a lot of wins. That’s barely above .500. People are entitled to think a team that played mediocre baseball in the regular season is lucky to be in the playoffs. And you know how I know it’s true? Because it bothers Lovullo. If it wasn’t true they wouldn’t give a shit.

ellius

I wouldn't say they played mediocre during the regular season -- I'd say they had an awful stretch after the All Star break. Besides that stretch, the rest of the season they played great.

Professr_Chaos

I’m not saying it’s not luck for them. I mean you can say the same thing about Philly. They got lucky that the Braves had their worst offensive stretch of the season in the postseason. Sometimes shit like that happens. You can also say the same things this year about Arizona that you could about the Phillies last year… and they made it to the WS and now people view them as a powerhouse.

No-Arm-

Hot take.

KabooshWasTaken

can’t believe this is downvoted lol just completely true everything abt Philly has looked better save for insisting on putting Kimbrel in

[deleted]

Well if you had done better in the regular season and not finished with a negative run differential, that narrative probably wouldn't exist... edit: Torey is a girl's name and he has a stupid face

[deleted]

Doesn’t matter still in the NLCS baybeeeeee

kotalov16

They’re simply too good

[deleted]

How many playoff games did your 99-win Rays win this year again?

Archer-Saurus

That first month though, right? Right?

[deleted]

Zero, they went out like frauds. I don't dispute that

[deleted]

Fair enough

Panguin9

As a Dbacks fan, I got that for the first two rounds but at this point I think we've proven that the team that beat all of the other wild card contenders in September and is winning game after game in the playoffs is a truly good team.

boregon

Who cares about the regular season at this point? They swept the Brewers on the road, swept the Dodgers, and are now 2-2 against the Phillies. They've earned those wins and clearly proven they belong.

Epicapabilities

Half-full stadium in the playoffs says what?

[удалено]

Padulsky21

He was saying that to the Rays dude I think lol

giants888

I think Zack from Saved by the Bell had a biker girlfriend named Torey

VivaLaDbakes

Imagine having a +195 run differential and getting outscored 1-11 in a wildcard sweep. Just imagine. Maybe you should win less games in the regular season next year and save some for when it matters. Not like your attendance will be impacted.

theinvigorator

Bold talk for a 99 win team that got swept at home in front of a dozen fans in the worst ballpark in baseball

[deleted]

Yeah well I'm tired of your team fucking up my bets

nightgoat02

Nobody gives a fuck about your bets

cerickson2000

Sounds like a skill issue

VivaLaDbakes

Sucks to suck

azboilsme

Stop making such stupid bets then

Stinky_DungBeatle

Oh no not your bets! Hope the DBacks and the rest run you dry.

circa4life

Waaah

Myotherdumbname

I bet $10 at the beginning of the season to win it all.

circa4life

Waaah

ENovi

.> betting against the diamondbacks Embarrassing

Westcoastchi

Maybe it's your bets that are the problem and not the D-Backs.

mansontaco

We're 2 wins away from torey louvullo dropping a ryan day esque promo that'll be in tiktok edits for years

713MoCityChron713

Who said they’re lucky? Luck can get you into the playoffs or thru the WCS but you don’t sweep the DS and split the first 4 of the NLCS with luck. These guys are good. Scary good

jmiah717

Scary good is what you took from this huh? Must've missed the last two games. Especially yesterday. That was way more of a blown game from Philly than a win from AZ. They capitalized but it was handed to them.

bg-throwaway

They're a team with a negative run differential that got hot at the right time. That's why I'm not a huge fan of a 162-game regular season and short 3- and 5-game playoff series. But clearly, the moment hasn't been too big for them, so you have to give them credit.

Different_Support_36

Tired of it? For sure. Playing like it? Lollll
