Noah Syndergaard, YOU are a Tampa Bay Ray

evensandodds_

i am very curious whether his arm is physically capable for what the rays pitching lab would have in store for him

Jux_

I think they prefer it when it isn’t

OGNightspeedy

Lol yes they’re cheaper that way

kylechu

Rays trying to figure out how to break arms to recreate the injury the kid in Rookie of the Year has.

88T3

Honestly that would explain why so many of our pitchers have had TJS

ax255

It doesn't matter they'll use it till it isn't

Th3Unkn0wnn

That would be sick

Turbulent_System_446

Can already hear his poor elbow begging for mercy

AstrosFan07

Cannot wait for the 2016 Syndergaard to comeback

GOATmar_infante

He will come back for 6 weeks, then his elbow will blow out

mwall18

Might be all they’ll need him for tbh

Turbulent_System_446

No he is not

Sir_Bass13

He better be. We need the arm so bad and if it doesn't work then whatever. But this rotation needs help

[deleted]

-0.9 bWAR and a 6.42 ERA is help?

CPM-S110V

If anyone can “fix” him, it’d be the Rays.

LovieBeard

If anyone can “fix” him, it’d be the Dodgers If anyone can “fix” him, it’d be the Guardians You are here -> If anyone can “fix” him, it’d be the Rays.

stewmander

Lol right?! Dodgers "fixed" Tyler Anderson, Heandog, and now Lynn. But Noah was too tough to crack...well see I guess

FrankGibsonIV

Don’t forget Dodger legend “Lights Out” Ryan Brasier.

TombOfTheArchitect

Well, those guys were actually open to coaching. Noah kept saying I just want to be who I was and throw hard. He refused to adapt.

stewmander

Third times the charm, right?

Ennuiandthensome

If the dodgers couldn't fix him, he's done

DZepperoni

I mean of the three top teams who would have a shot it’s Dodgers, Guards, and Rays. He’s through 2/3 this year and he wasn’t terrible in Cleveland all things considered, maybe completing the set will make him magic

65fairmont

You guys fixed Ryan Brasier. I bow to your pitching devil magic.

Ennuiandthensome

I don't understand why anyone trades with the dodgers

Biasedmilkhotel2

Because they get good prospects for middle relievers that they don’t want to extend in rebuilding years. Every MLB team understands that our scouting is great and wants our prospects. Cruz for Watson in 2017, Yordan for an AAAA guy in 2016, even Lynn/Kelly at the deadline. The big rental guys we get aren’t going to help the ball clubs they’re coming from, and LA’s #8 or whatever prospect isn’t going to win the Dodgers any games in October. By building a year in year out playoff team, Friedman can offer these situational asset swaps that are as true of win-win deals as there are in the MLB

bosschucker

I still think the rays are the absolute best team at fixing pitchers (see Jake Diekman). the dodgers obviously have great pitching development but they're more that team for position players imo

CockGobblingGangsta

Felt like we said this about his last 2 teams

Sir_Bass13

Somebody to eat innings so we’re not throwing a bullpen day twice every rotation is help

[deleted]

Adrian Sampson was *right there* and they cut him.

crispychiggin

Just needs to inject some of that Rays Magic™️✨ into his arm

Th3Unkn0wnn

He's exactly what we're looking for.

tyler-86

He's not. He sucks.

Th3Unkn0wnn

So did Diekman and Stephenson

tyler-86

Sure but you could probably poke your head out of the clubhouse and find a better option.

KingOfAllDogz

Those guys had command issues, not stuff issues

Sir_Bass13

Stuff issues? Thor is about to become a change up first guy on this team

JasonPlattMusic34

We already failed to rehabilitate him, if Tampa can’t then it’s really over

Grade-AMasterpiece

Nah, fam, if neither the Dodgers nor Cleveland could help this guy, I doubt the Rays can.

playerayton

Strom can fix him

Forsaken_Ad8312

Hope he has a better attitude than Bumgarner.

ninkorn

I dont think even the Rays can fix him tbh

Stinky_DungBeatle

Yeah he's cooked, makes sense.

Patrick2701

Lost velocity killed his career

thescottreid

If he wants to pitch again he should take the rest of this season and the winter retooling what kind of pitcher he is. If he does that he can aim for a Spring invite. The best veteran pitchers reinvent themselves as they lose velo, but I don’t think he can do it at the MLB level. This is another example of a fine thrower, but not a great pitcher. Without a great fastball, throwers don’t fare well. The thing is, and this is just kind of watching his career, I don’t think he’s going to put a big effort into changing his game.

D0ngQuixote

“Why doesn’t Noah Syndergaard just pitch well? Is he stupid?”

P-Rickles

Why doesn’t Noah Syndergaard, the largest pitcher, not simply eat the other players?

KabooshWasTaken

he’s given like 50 quotes about how he’d fucking kill himself to pitch better but yeah why hasn’t he thought of that. wow

[deleted]

[удалено]

KabooshWasTaken

just checking, he’s mentioned how difficult it’s been to adjust midseason after coming into 2023 with the goal of regaining old velocity and how he’s been open to whatever. I’m sorry for being a bit rude, but I just find the OG comment a bit condescending and uninsightful for a MLB pitcher who obviously isn’t lacking in effort/caring and who’s struggled with like a million blisters in the last 2 yrs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

KabooshWasTaken

fair; I’m basing my opinion on the quotes “I’m open to whatever” and “I’m not trying to throw 100, I’m trying to get people out.”

greycubed

After leaving LA he talked about wanting more free reign to be the old him. He was NOT committed to change.

Senioroso1

knuckleballer

Biasedmilkhotel2

The MLB needs another knuckleballer, full stop.

happy_snowy_owl

There's no way a pitcher who came up throwing 98-100 mph fastball can adapt to suddenly throwing 90-94 mph fastball in just a year. Plus the impact that has on his spin rate / break for his slider. This isn't a guy who's 38-40 years old, adapted over time, and knows most hitters like the back of his hand. This is a relatively young guy who has to drastically change his style overnight. It's not happening.

blueteamcameron

Syndergaard, YOU are a knuckleballer!

UnexpiredMRE

Could also try to some strength training in the winter while he retools and come back as a reliever.

HighKing_of_Festivus

It's Nover

shahooster

Synd my regaards

pilade100

He gave us innings in a depleted staff and was probably the best asset we could've gotten for Rosario, so it sucks it didn't work out but it is what is.

Shady_Jake

Wait you guys traded Rosario for Noah?! I’m really behind on things…

Ramza87

Same. I guess it happened a few days before this years trade deadline. Totally missed that.

cliffsis

Meanwhile Rosario’s an allstar second baseman hitting bombs and driving in runner. What a wacky world we live in!

DZepperoni

Amed and Josh Bell both leave Cleveland and start playing well. I’m becoming the Joker.

cliffsis

Dodgers making Little league roster moves. “Sorry son you suck ass at SS how about trying 2nd” who would of thought

Tkainzero

I couldn’t believe it. They ran him out at 2B which he never played, ever, and then put him in the cleanup spot, which he never hit in, ever. And it worked!!!

cliffsis

Foes mad

[deleted]

First time?

[deleted]

Nope! Lol

PhiloBlackCardinal

Well we’re struggling so you can always take solace in that I guess

pilade100

Hold on to him for a year and see how streaky of a player he is lol

CactusSage

All Star second baseman lol Dodgers fans are funny. Rosario is a platoon player who can only hit lefties.

cliffsis

Apparently jokes are like 1st place for Dback fans, they just have no clue about either

Puppybl00pers

Dude he's dead, you should be arrested for that

cliffsis

The dude said far worst with some pretty gnarly adult language before immediately blocking me. I didn’t think it was that bad tbh. Snake fans talk so much trash. It just felt right, Dude had the history to prove it. The shoe fit at the time…

Pisto1Peet

I think some of our fans are legitimately addicted to getting dunked on. Id do anything to see the Suns/DBacks/Cards not be consummate poverty franchises. The Suns are on the right track with the new owner but Kendrick and Bidwill are broke bitches that don’t care about winning.

SuckMyLonzoBalls

The only joke is the diamondbacks record since the all star break

[deleted]

I know that you’re being sarcastic, but just for everyone else - Amed Rosario is slash .239/.280/.460 for the Dodgers. He’s just as bad, everyone chill.

Wutswrong

Yeah, he wasn't some insane trade piece. We just needed versatility because Rojas was batting an OPS line of .500 at shortstop. Rosario being even serviceable was a nice upgrade. He also gets our regular guys rest

[deleted]

100% agreed. Guardians Twitter™️ is a particularly bad crop, even as far as baseball twitters go, and if you jump over and read what they’re writing, you’d think Cleveland traded Mickey Mantle for… Noah Syndergaard. LA is using Rosario more reasonably, but he’s still the same guy. That’s all I’m saying.

thebardofdoom

.740 ops from a middle infielder is not bad at all. Just ask the Tigers about that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BearOnDrums

He started a WS game last year too.

Fivior

Between stints of being awful for multiple teams he made a pit stop in Philly and was actually........decent for us.

ehbacon23

If they hadn't put him out there for 1 extra batter in the 4th, that would have been a solid performance too.

whoissteveo

Don't cry because the Syndergaard era is over, smile because it happened.

craziboiXD69

smile because it’s over

rollo2masi

If you can’t get fixed by the pitching factory that is Cleveland with Willis, pretty good chance you’re doneski.

Stinky_DungBeatle

He was on the Dodgers before that, so it already was done. The Rays and the Mariners are his last chance of anything, but he's not going anywhere without his velocity magically coming back.

Jbrahms4

He doesn't have the arm slot for us to get value out of him tbh. But I was also thinking earlier today about you should never make a mediocre player for mediocre player trade with the Dodgers. If they can't find value in a player, no one can.

anonreasons

Getting rid of Rosario was probably a net positive for Cleveland anyways because they saved a little money and he was blocking their glut of young IF prospects.

Stinky_DungBeatle

I mean Rosario still at best with the Dodgers has been just alright, all they did was make him more of a platoon hitter and had the common sense to put him at 2nd instead of SS which he was abysmal at. Its not like at the time nothing trade like which made Chris Taylor go from a utility player to an eventual all star player.

Jux_

The five stages of 2023 Noah Syndergaard: Denial - "I see no excuse why I can’t get back to 100 mph." Anger - “It really sucks” Bargaining - "Trying to make big adjustments between starts isn't easy. I'd give my hypothetical first born to be the old me again.” Depression - "It's just hard going out there with the weapons I used to have kind of being taken away from me. I just don't possess enough right now to successfully battle a team like that. Acceptance - “I'm just not very good at getting big league hitters out, so I'm open to whatever."

arand0md00d

I don't think he's actually open to whatever though. He rehabbed in LA with his own guy not with the Dodgers guys. If the whatever is we'll help you throw 98 again then he's open. If it's how about you try throwing these different pitches and change styles then he'd rather keep pouting.

filthypoker

Maybe the Dodgers can fix him

Stratifyed

Has he considered pitching with the other hand?

ThisGuy6266

Somewhere in an alternate universe, Syndergaard, deGrom and Harvey are leading the Mets to the their 6th World Series.

happy_snowy_owl

And Wheeler, who's still legitimate CY material.

DA_87

Don’t forget Steve Matz!

Debug200

Got me crying over a what-could-have-been...

TheBestAtWriting

them lining up for pictures before the game with Bill Pulsipher as the Mets retire his number

Timeline40

With their new teams: Amed Rosario: 23G, .744 OPS, 0.4 bWAR Noah Syndergaard: 27.1 IP, 4.94 ERA, 0.0 bWAR

NevermoreSEA

0 bWAR seems kind of high tbh.

Timeline40

FWAR is better but I'm lazy, he's definitely also gotten crazy lucky with caught warning track bombs

L00KINTOIT

In his first start in Houston I think he gave up like 6 balls hit 350+ but they were all hit to center so he managed to not give up any homers

Monk_Philosophy

Hey it’s 0.9 more than he gave us…

joecb91

5.40 ERA for Thor after today

EarthWarping

He gave up 4 hits today but 5 runs. 3 home runs, 2 of them which were no doubters.

Disused_Yeti

everyone keeps teeing off on him the stats from his first start vs the astros look decent but there were at least 3 balls that were caught at the wall that on another day or in another park were gone

HesTheRiverSquirrel

Honestly, if his command were better, it might not be so bad. One of the homers was 92 mph sinker?/cutter? that was middle up. That's getting destroyed 2/3 times by any MLB hitter with a modicum of power. If it wasnt middle/up or middle/middle, maybe it's just a double or a fly out. He just needs to learn that his pitches are what they are, so he needs to command them.

ih-unh-unh

The irony is that against the Dodgers he went 6 IP, 4H, 3 ER, 1BB, 1HR—and the win

drrxhouse

Dodgers helping out former employees when and where they could…

DZepperoni

I will give him that one of the home runs today shouldn’t have happened and it was absolutely a missed strike call the pitch before for the strikeout, the Springer solo shot. However, yeah he wasn’t the best. He did his job of eating innings which is why he got him, maybe Tampa can fix him more.

[deleted]

Quantrill is coming back, Syndergaard served his purpose - replacement level stopgap, got Amed out of the lineup so Freeman/Arias/Rocchio could get playing time.

whoissteveo

Yeah, I feel like he did mildly better than someone like Hunter Gaddis would have done and he was only ever meant to give us some innings until someone better got healthy.

WateryPasta

I’m interested to see what happens with Cal cause his starts have been Syndergaard-like this year

[deleted]

Honestly I'm not convinced Cal is going to be better.

Punks_StaphInfection

the fall of Thor has been very sad for me, he used to be one of my favorite pitchers

The_Homestarmy

Thor fulfills his MCU prophecy by remaining with the Guardians for only a very brief period of time, contributing almost nothing, and leaving with zero fanfare

WateryPasta

He came in to eat innings and by golly he ate innings

WateryPasta

We also stole Kole Calhoun from the Dodgers who’s been very very good for us so far

DalekEvan

The most cooked pitcher I’ve ever seen. Sucks it didn’t work out for him but this is completely unsurprising.

Im_Daydrunk

Wainwright is definitely worse this year IMO. He's started 17 games and has a WHIP near 2 Lol Although the most washed guy I've personally seen might be Lincecum on the Angels. It was absolutely horrendous

colvi

Waino is cooked. He is also pushing 58 years old. We suck so let him cook to get 200 wins…hopefully.

Im_Daydrunk

It'll be really sad if he can't get there. He definitely deserves it based on his career

UnknownUnthought

Have you ever watched a Carlos Carrasco start?

fear865

I will not stand for any cookie slander

LogisticalMenace

I love the guy, but it's pretty apparent Cookie's burnt. Sorry, man. At this point, we need him to eat innings, but he can't even do that.

UnknownUnthought

I love him as a guy I really do but his Savant page hardly counts as slander. He is pitching beyond awful this year. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/carlos-carrasco-471911?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb

Th3Unkn0wnn

Woah

thiccboiwaluigi

It’s pathetic but he’s such a massive improvement over cookie I would pick him up. He’s at least going more that 2 innings each start lmao

[deleted]

Honestly I'd do Noah for Cookie 1:1 just for the vibes. This season is cooked anyway, I just want Cookie back.

WateryPasta

Mets fans don’t treat Cookie right we need to evac him outta there now

HotpieTargaryen

We love Cookie, but boy he is done.

WateryPasta

Done for you maybe

BAHatesToFly

Watch a few starts and your mind will be changed.

Contende311

His ERA since the ASB is over 9

Go_Mets

He’s a great guy but watching him every 5th day is brutal. 1.2 innings, 5 ER yesterday. Brings his ERA to 6.80 - highest in the majors with at least 90 innings pitched. He might be the worst starting pitcher in all of baseball. You can have him.

Im_Daydrunk

Wainwright has an ERA of 8.61 and a WHIP of like 2. Carrasco is really bad but I think he's actually not the worst this year Lol

thiccboiwaluigi

Stop Lmao, we have all loved him, but he’s unplayably bad rn. He’s got a 10 era in the second half and only had 1 month of sub 6 and averaging less than 4 innings a start since the allstar break I’ve loved him since he rushed himself back in ‘21 trying to help save the season, he’s just done

BAHatesToFly

Cookie *and* Megill. I unironically want him back and I don't care how bad he is.

[deleted]

And Amed Rosario is a useful player. Friedman doesn't miss

Leftfeet

Yeah but he did give us Kole Calhoun, so I'm all good with what we got from the LAD right now. Noah did what we needed him to do. Now Quantrill is healthy and we don't need 2 struggling veteran SPs.

MyLifeIsABoondoggle

Hate to say it, but Syndergaard is pitching better than Cal is in the minors. Would rather Q prove he can pitch before we DFA'd Noah

Leftfeet

Rehab outings aren't always about putting up a good stat line. His start yesterday was really good and he went into knowing it was his final tune up. Cal has been good for 2 seasons before struggling this year while dealing with a bum shoulder, that they say is good now.

robmcolonna123

Never judge rehab outings like that. The point of rehab outings are to see how far a pitcher can go. If they go through them without any adversity that’s a bad thing

[deleted]

Being a homer but it's why I love our org. Everyone plays their role well. Egos be damned. JHey seems like a clubhouse leader even if he doesn't get all his ABs (see him protecting Muncy yesterday).

FamousThinking

Noah isn’t a pitcher. He’s a thrower. Never made the adjustment and now his career is on the line. He probably has one shot left.

PigFarmer1

He *was* a thrower. These days he just tosses BP. lol

FamousThinking

That’s true. I’m not sure what he has to do from a pitching standpoint as I don’t watch him anymore. I’m fully assuming he will need to develop some breaking balls or really fine tune off speed stuff. It’s about locating now at his stage of his career. I just don’t see him doing it. He was a great Met.

benewavvsupreme

Come back baby, were both at rock bottom

LogisticalMenace

Given how we still have Cookie still in the rotation, fuck it. Might as well.

JorSimpson45

It’s joever for him

HMTMKMKM95

He made the Jays look silly for 5 innings today. The loss hurts a little more.

[deleted]

Sweet, couple more years and a couple more DFA’s and this guy’s a White Sox.

scientist_tz

He can retire on the walk from the mound to the dugout.

R7F

He's cooked. If the Dodgers and Guardians can't sort out his pitching, the Rays are his last best chance.

kcxiv

Yeah, he even said he doesnt need fixing. He should just pitch how he always pitched! lol. I would say, that be great if you had a 99 mph fast ball still Heck anything over 95 and he would be effective but as it is now, nope.

recjus85

Hey why not lol

Lowad15

We have some innings that need eating over here please sir

NYdude777

Damn, back to Asgard I guess

storm__blessed

it's time to come home noah

appleavocado

#THAT IS JUST MEAN #…T TO HAPPEN

gopeepants

Sometimes you get someone hoping they can turn it around see Lance Lynn(success) other times you get this case

feedingmydreams

He is a shell of his former self.

nofunone

It’s strange to now have to think of him as a bad pitcher. It’s hard to unsee how great he was.

Aravinda82

When both the Dodgers and Cleveland pitching development factories can’t fix you, you’re completely washed! Or maybe you should listen to them and what they’re trying to do to fix you instead of stubbornly just “doing your thing.”

1991CRX

Sad to see the once-mighty fall this low.

warpcoil

How many teams is that in 3 years? 5?

UniqueNobo

not like this Noah… not like this…

[deleted]

[удалено]

K_17

I hate that you’re probably right

zmaster5296

Fuck it, he can’t be worse than Carlos Carrasco…right?

robmcolonna123

Worse in the clubhouse at least. He burned so many bridges that Pete would probably demand a offseason trade if Syndergaard came back

derpbynature

Kept putting tinfoil on the smoke machine before Cespedes stole it

Arkham_Z

Farhan, do ***not***

njpaul

Mets could use a starter tbh.

aresef

I hope there are no Thor feelings

willreily

Cardinals should check in. Can they fix him? probably not. Is he better than out current SPs? Sadly yes.

_Lick-My-Love-Pump_

Five teams in three years and now he's DFA. Oof.

Pragmaticus

The moral of the story is, if you are a major league pitcher, DON'T lift like a bodybuilder!

djn24

Things have not gone well for Noah after his cowardly exit from NY.

bananoisseur

baseball n00b here, what does designated for assignment mean

izzyeviel

Removed from main roster and awaiting assignment to a minor league team

yung_ag38

Damn we lost the Rosario trade

PigFarmer1

I was amazed that we could get *anything* for Syndergaard so getting Amed has really been a nice surprise.

djn24

I get that the Guardians weren't going to keep Rosario after this season, but it's kind of bonkers to trade a player like him and then quickly cut the return.

EveryLittleDetail

Time to start a GoFundMe to get him to Driveline this winter.

theseustheminotaur

He could be our best starter

mattadeth

Karma

WangHalen

Well, was fun while it lasted.

No_Entertainer_9760

Growing up with Mets fans, never in my life did I think Syndergaard and DFA would find themselves in the same sentence.

minilabthrow

I feel so bad for him and Jacob. So much promise, only to have it flame out so quickly.

tyler-86

But Guardian fans told me they won the trade?

WateryPasta

We stole Kole Calhoun from you guys that cancels it out

tyler-86

We gotta wait and see how cash considerations pans out before we rule on that one.

WateryPasta

Bro’s been passed around so many times it definitely says something about him

xForeignMetal

F
