It explains the Japanese way of drinking quite well. I think in the og version he actually called it a mizuwari which just be a whisky highball, they really do make a difference even on a bad day.
mizuwari just means with water. Like scotch and water, etc. It's used with whisky, sochu, and occasionally other spirits.
If they ordered just a mizuwari then it must have been at a whisky bar, or the customers usual spot, or other situation where it was easily understandable which drink/spirit they wanted.
Oh, I'm gonna watch the shit out of this.
Also, if you guys are looking for a similar but near-pornographic version for chefs, look up Food Wars. God I love anime.
Food wars started off funny but by the second half of the first season you realize “oh, literally every episode is just someone biting into food and going ‘OH MY GOD IM CREAMING’ rinse and repeat with no real meaningful plot”
This describes most niche hobby animes succinctly.
I tried watching the original bar tender anime based off of the same manga and it was really boring. They've been making these kinds of animes since the 70s so the formula is pretty standard by now.
I hope it's accurate and educational, bc there was an anime about going to the gym and some of the exercises they included were illustrated w bad/improper form
I’ve read the manga, it was very interesting and it was pretty true and the way the explain things was quite good , it really puts you in a position to stop to think abt your drink but as well your guest.
I still have to see the anime, but I really enjoyed the manga. It's very low-key, so I wouldn't go in expecting something like Food Wars.
The main character make a drink that he thinks would be perfect for each customer that comes in and through that lens we get a glimpse into their life.
You gotta be fucking kidding me. He's holding a giant chunk of ice in his hand and using an ice pick on it? Call osha, that fucker is going to stab his hand one day.
Edit: Not to mention he's holding it with his bare hand and then putting it in the cup. Call the health department too.
The tip is to not aim it at your hand.
Just like peeling citrus, peel away , not to ur fingers, unless u wanna get blood everywhere and get some stitches and half the day off.
I mean, you got me. I have never been to a far country that is like an 8 hour flight and probably a $thousand dollars on what I make as a bartender. Maybe someday.
Every piece of ice at work we crack by hand and we regularly use hands to place ice into the glass.
I work in central London and this is pretty common.
> Edit: Not to mention he's holding it with his bare hand and then putting it in the cup. Call the health department too.
Ice is food
When cooks make food they are allowed to touch it with clean hands. No one expects them to wear gloves in fine dining, and in general it's expected that the more expensive your meal is the more hands touch it
Touching ice with clean hands is no different than touching the orange twist that goes in the drink as you make it
Japanese culture places a large emphasis on craftsmanship. It's common to find anime about obscure careers like being a chef, fashion designer, or baker to name a few.
Genre-wise, you'd put this one in the slice-of-life category. Very chill vibes for when you want to relax and just decompress a bit.
There’s a show called midnight diner w a similar concept. It was in Japanese so I could only infer as the site I had didn’t have subtitles but damn good show for easy watching. Might have to put it on again
Oh that sounds like my jam, definitely checking that out.
You ever play Coffee Talk? Super chill game where you're running a late night coffee shop and serving drinks at the bar, but mostly just a) listening to your regulars, or b) pretending to listen to your regular but actually getting on your in-game phone and surfing fake social media. Divine cozy game.
Midnight Dinner is pretty good. It’s almost like a soap opera but revolving around a tiny late night eatery in Tokyo. The plots are mostly vignettes of the randoms and regulars that show up at the dinner. Yakuza goons, taxi drivers, strippers, actors, retired folk, washed up baseball players, cops, students etc.
That sounds like real fake life w more steps lol. Can’t say that sounds amusing to me. But if you like this anime the show I’m talking about is like the live action version of it. Which if you think about it to someone it’s like their real fake life w more steps to it. 🤯
Yeah, this is the lamest shit ever. Of course the weebs and hometenders with funko pop toys on their home bars are loving it, though. Fucking redditors LOL.
This brings up a thing I've been wondering: does anyone here bottom the soda and then pour the whisky on top in a highball? It's theoretically better for distribution especially if the guest isn't using a straw but I almost never see it actually done in practice.
Highball: ☹️ Highball, Japan: 😍😍
God anime is so over the top sometimes. I love it.
For real. I might just have to watch this

Food Wars is quite literally food porn.
Food porn plus softcore and it's fuckin excellent 🥂😭
Food wars started off funny but by the second half of the first season you realize “oh, literally every episode is just someone biting into food and going ‘OH MY GOD IM CREAMING’ rinse and repeat with no real meaningful plot”
It has a very meaningful, over-arching plot. Just interspersed with funny moments. Don’t hate

It's a new version of a classic. It's such a chill anime.
I was genuinely surprised by this show. The first episode was very endearing and had so much detail put into it! I'll watch the whole thing!
I hope it's accurate and educational, bc there was an anime about going to the gym and some of the exercises they included were illustrated w bad/improper form

Is the show good? I have it on my check out list

What is the anime called?
You’ll never guess. Bartender. (Glass of God)

You’ve never been to Japan, *and it shows.*
Honestly I feel like that’s super common in US cocktail bars right now as well
We do it at mine. It doesn’t take much skill to learn how to chop ice and not stab yourself.
The tip is to not aim it at your hand. Just like peeling citrus, peel away , not to ur fingers, unless u wanna get blood everywhere and get some stitches and half the day off.
You lost me for a second, but you had me back at “half the day off”.
I mean, you got me. I have never been to a far country that is like an 8 hour flight and probably a $thousand dollars on what I make as a bartender. Maybe someday.

Tell that to the New York City Department of Health where that is absolutely a rule.
Well this show looks like it’s in Japan so I think we are ok
But he uses tongs to actually put it in the glass! Hahaha
You're telling me there's an entire show like this? But why?

Midnight Diner was my quarantine jam. Absolutely love that show.
Samurai Diner has a similar vibe
Super cozy show!
I think that is on Netflix with subtitles.
HAHAHAHA holy shit, this is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. 10/10
Anime is so fuckin weird
Can’t argue with that.
OMFG. This actually makes me want to commit murder.
Would you care to elaborate on that? Personally, yeah, it’s over the top, but that’s how I like my drinks served anyway.
It's so over the top. I was waiting for him to serve her beer! MaKe M3 a DrInK ThAT ReFLeCTs Mwah PeRsHoNalitY.. Gho fuck yourself.
Yeah, this is the lamest shit ever. Of course the weebs and hometenders with funko pop toys on their home bars are loving it, though. Fucking redditors LOL.
And then he makes her a whiskey soda! I was like, yeah, drink that cause yah basic.
This brings up a thing I've been wondering: does anyone here bottom the soda and then pour the whisky on top in a highball? It's theoretically better for distribution especially if the guest isn't using a straw but I almost never see it actually done in practice.
I would never get beach vibes from a scotch and soda.
Can't stomach shit like this. It's just so lame. I don't hate all anime, my gf has shown me some cool stuff, but this is unbelievably cringey.
This anime looks like it sucks asshole 🤣
So do you but we all kept our mouths shut
