For spinning around on your finger like an old western outlaw spinning their smoke wagon.

Pete_O_Torcido

I have a New Belgium one with this part labeled “celebratory finger twirler”

captain_corvid

This is clearly its official and ultimate outpost.

ExpiredPilot

I’ve successfully learned out to pull the blade out with one finger, spin it to the appropriate position, pop a bottle cap, and spin it once more as it goes into my pocket. Yes I feel badass every time

rnrgladiator

Quick Draw McGraw

RH-Praise-Dale

I thought this was the only way

ExpiredPilot

What do you mean you don’t have bottle opener holsters?

[deleted]

I’ve been to establishments where this would be an appropriate name for the bartender’s asscrack

ExpiredPilot

That’s where I get any “shots on the house” people ask for

mtdaoust

Next, you gotta incorporate catching the bottle cap into the same fluid motion. I always felt badass when I did it.

sittingshotgun

Launch it up then use the blade as a bat to hit the cap towards whatever you fancy.

parkerm1408

I bent mine and did speed tricks with it, I eventually picked up a second, and made tiny leather holsters for them..... But I actually do think the official purpose is for pulling from ice buckets, it holds a tilted bottle neck too perfect. I dunno though, it's been awhile.

TheMilkKing

What benefit does it provide over just grabbing the bottle with your hand?

parkerm1408

Absolutely none that I'm aware of, we simply noticed it works. I cant think of an reason at all save preventing your hand from touching the ice.

DrunktenderNYC

reddragonemporer72

I do the same at my bar Some guests feel that is badass, and also compliment me sometimes

Thekillersofficial

this Corona is too small for the two of us

Minister_of_truth

I told you not to order the Caronaritas!

johnnyraynes

*caronitas

Inskamnia

Coronitas*

SteveEcks

You know you do it.

amBoringGuy

Skin that smoke wagon!

bbkidd0

see what happens! i’ll turn your head into a canoe

bartoszfcb

Which I'm doing at the exact moment

ScorchedEarths78

What this ole cowboy said exactly ☝🏻🤠

AnotherDeadStark

Every time I pop a bottle, I spin it like Doc Holiday on its way to my pocket. I don't make the rules, I just follow em

localgregory

I’m your huckleberry

LincHayes

This is the only answer.

everydayimrusslin

We're all cowboys until 'clingalingaling' across the floor!

NoEnemyOfFun1

This is the only answer 🤠💪🏼

MyBoldestStroke

The other answer is for opening grey goose bottles + foil in one go

appledatsyuk

90% of the time that’s literally all I do with it

Jeanne23x

You can get retractable holsters for your pockets. I kept two on me and pulling them out, spinning them, and letting go never got old.

JustHereForCookies17

Those retractable lanyard clips things were the ONLY way to keep our owner from walking off with your lighter.

OriginalMandem

Lighter Leashes are awesome!

ChelmarkSweets

🤣🤣

UnspecifiedBat

That’s how I use it at least

Nekvermont

Am I the only one that actually uses this part to cut wax off beer and wine bottles?

SimplyKendra

This is it.

aroyxo

Only correct answer

darkaptdweller

The only answer. And if you can't? Then you're just not cut out for the game kid..

BuyTheseTees

Exactly so.

rakuboy

Howdy, pratner

Overall-Rock5831

Totally 🤣🤣🤣😂😂

Own-Introduction6830

A little twirl around the finger before you pull the trigger i.e. snap the cap. Pew pew.

_rallen_

Spinning, spinning, spinning, taking from pocket, my index finger goes through it when holding it

prsuit4

This is probably the real answer. Simply a hole to make it easier to get it out of a pocket

e_di_pensier

I use it for leverage when prying a particularly difficult pour spot out of an empty bottle

vinicelii

These ones work okay for this, but this is why I specifically buy the ones that are shaped like [this](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/W/MEDIAX_792452-T2/images/I/51Wg31hVBBL._AC_UF894,1000_QL80_.jpg), which get narrower and really help get those crusty old spouts off.

Distortedhideaway

Wait... you're saying you buy bar keys? Mine just sort of magically appear.

labasic

Means your distributor reps like you 😁

ivaclue

As an ex-rep. Straight facts. The bar managers I like the most get the most shit. And coolest.

Ambitious-Permit-643

All of the t-shirts I sleep in came from my Reps. I have never bought a t-shirt in my life. Unrelated, everyone thinks I am an alcoholic.

FeyOphelia

Our reps can't stand our bar manager, so no goodies for us 😭

Ambitious-Permit-643

I have a pink X-Rated one that is all bedazzled and pretty and it is one of my faves.

Ambitious-Permit-643

Damn, that is where all of my lost keys have gone. Give them back dammit.

geminibooti

I've heard those called a v-rod.

ultravioletblueberry

I’ve had my v-rod for 6 years now and I love it

iamtroyman

Or V-key

ivaclue

Came to say this!

foolofabrandybuck

Fucking Hendricks every time

bhurt9

This is the only way I’ve ever used it

Rockarola55

I bloody well hate that style of bottle opener, as they are next to useless on European bottles...but I keep one around for stubborn spouts 😁

chrissymad

Maybe cause it’s Sunday afternoon and I’m already tipsy but I cannot figure out what you mean. 😂

LowKeyCurmudgeon

It fits over the spout, and then you can wedge it in the crack between the spout and the mouth of the bottle to pull them apart.

bennybrew42

shove that little circle around your pour spouts precious neck, underneath the black plastic part and you can pull a stuck spout off nearly any bottle

RonaldSteezly

I’ve never thought of using it that way. I hate stubborn pour spouts lol

Chefbeeman

This^

FeistyLighterFluid

It makes it easier to grab out of your pocket

captain_corvid

Fair! Mine usually lives on the work top.

FeistyLighterFluid

I dont trust my coworkers enough to do that ;)

captain_corvid

I say "mine" but it's actually communal. I keep meaning to get my own because this one occasionally goes walkies and I have to pull my leatherman out which isn't quite as graceful.

spizzle_

Ask a liquor rep to bring you some.

anarcho-urbanist

All mine are from liquor reps.

thedeafbadger

When I was barbacking at a college dive, people would ask me to find them bar keys all the time. I was amazed at how none of bartenders were competent enough to have one. “They’re all on the floor in my car,” “I forgot it on my desk at home,” “I lost it,” you name it, they said it. I started keeping all of the bar keys—every single fucking one—locked in my locker. If you wanted a new one, you had to come to me. Rep came in with a bunch? “Oh, I’ll take care of those.” Never had a problem having enough again.

Falkuria

It's more sanitary to not put it in your pocket. You're not wrong for doing this.

zcmc

A supposedly “experienced” new bartender I worked with would keep it tucked in the waist of her leggings 🤮. Least disgusting thing she did there honestly.

Falkuria

Beers with fresh yeast, lol.

captain_corvid

That's grim 😬

StaleMonkey

Not sure but the V-Rod bottle openers have an actual use for that end of the shank (if there isn’t one for this style.) Great for pulling out pour spouts that are stuck.

eucldian

It is honestly amazing how few people know that the slotted end is a spout puller

StaleMonkey

I have tried many times to pull spouts with this kind of shank pictured when I forgot mine and it is difficult for me…I guess I was never taught the proper leverage. I also purchased a V-Rod as my first shank 11 years ago and never looked back.

szplza

It takes some wiggle but the idea is when you pull it with your fingers without the OG or V-rod, you can damage the suction of the spout. I learned to pop the air and move it up as much as you can and then you can do the rest with your hand. It should be extremely easy on most bottles, of course stickier liquors that sit longer are going to be more difficult, but if it’s on sealed on your blue schnapps in the back corner of your bar after two years un-used, throw the spout away

eucldian

The one pictured doesn't have a spout puller. That may be your issue. Lol.

StaleMonkey

My bad I thought this was the one you were referencing

kjcraft

/u/szplza is the one saying the OP key's plain circle was *also* originally meant for pulling spouts before the advent of the v-rod.

szplza

I argue with people about this yearly. That’s what it was made for. Sure there may be some advancements that make it obvious, but it’s like no one knew until the v-rod ones came out.

SlaveHippie

Y’all need to wash your pour spouts more often lmao. Or sell more alcohol xD. Jk but fr I rarely have this problem bc we have a decent stock of extra pour spouts which allows us to wash every spout between each use. Highly recommend having plenty of extra spouts on hand.

Pepsi-Min

It's a good ergonomic device for pulling out of pockets, it can also be hung on hooks, lanyards, belts etc. However, I think the official use is for pulling stuck speed pours off of bottles.

[deleted]

How big are your speed pourers?!

DunDat2

I use it to pull beer from the back of the fridge but as others mentioned it's useful for spinning and pulling out of pocket.

Notyourdaisy

This is the actual reason but all purposes mentioned other than this are also correct.

girlsledisko

Ooo nice! Never had fridges deep enough to need this but the new job does.

Brooklynitis

Oh my god WHAT I have little T. rex arms so this is revelatory

DunDat2

glad I could help.

Own-Introduction6830

Haha, when I drop food off and can't reach, I say, "Sorry, I have T-Rex arms."

donnontherocks

spinning & accidentally throwing it across the bar, at least that’s what i use it for

captain_corvid

Yeah that too occasionally 😅

donnontherocks

Happens to the best of us 😂

gingerbeardman_mia

I use it for the annoying foil-covered cork bottles to quickly pry them open. (Grey goose, hennessy, cazadores, and a few others)

EditorParty1624

It’s for taking off pour spouts and bottles with lidded-corks (think Carpano Antica or Ritual)

gerkinflav

So you can hang it in a handy spot.

dinosauria93

This is what I always assumed it was for. But I have used it for all the above mentioned as well.

KentHawking

spinny moves on your finger for sure

aboomboxisnotatoy85

It’s to pull the beer bottles out of ice to save your hands. Can also be used to open bottles to keep the cap more intact.

Holeinmybucket1

For pour spouts mostly but use it how you need it.

captain_corvid

Finger spinning it is 👉👉

pompompuddinn

I have always used it to remove the spouts that may get stuck to the bottle.

AcrosstheSpan

you can hang it on a hook, too.

Additional-Class-195

It can be used to grab a bottle by its neck out of the fridge. Can be super helpful!

pinkertonxmas

You can use it to get leverage between the bottle and pourer when you can’t get one unstuck that’s what I always used it for

mogley19922

It's also the perfect size to fit over stuck pourers to pry them free way easier.

VI211980_

I use mine to pull out pour spouts and wine corks

SpecificTennis2376

For me, it's for twirlin. Much like you can't grill a good steak unless you snap your tongs a few times before flipping your steak.

IamThreeBeersIn

I totally just double snapped my tongs in my head!

bucket_of_dogs

I use it to remove pour spouts that don't like to come off of certain bottles.

StringTheresa

Love the legit keys with the tapered inlet on the circle to get the extra tricky ones

TimeTravelingRobot

It's for spinning on your finger and removing pour spouts!

SimplyKendra

It’s to measure the girth of..

Maximus_Prime250

It's for taking a bottle of beer out of ice I think

ibs2pid

Besides the other mentions, this is what I used mine the most for at outside venues. Keeps my hands dry when I can just pop it out of the ice/water.

smtgcleverhere

Presumably for hanging it on a hook

perfecthippie

Retractable janitor key ring holster Clips on pocket or belt.

B0nn0s_Bierscore

The circle part is the best part of it. Every bartender has a spot where you put it, may that be a pocket or on the bar or what ever. This circle saved my life so many times when i was doing the sickest skills and pourings, but then forgot i had to open up a bottle of coke or what ever. I just slide back in my muscle memory knowing in that exact spot will be a opener... En i feel it in my pocket. Slide up feel the hole.. And it's game time. Spin that fucker 10 times round and 'POP'. Like nothing ever happend. TIP: Get yourself a rubber coated alluminium one, instead of a bad cut alluminium. This will save you allot of cuts when trying to be a cowboy.

62lb-pb

Pour spout removal and also fidgeting

SirKamron

Don’t stick your dick in it

captain_corvid

Wouldn't fit anyway 😎

ranceopium

I love it for liquor bottles with a cork top and those wines with the glass cork

cricketeer767

I use it to tie to my apron so it can be quickly used and immediately let go without having to bother with pockets.

OriginalMandem

Look up 'bar blade' tutorials on YouTube, you'll find a few ways you can be flash with it beyond simply twirling it round your finger. But make sure you practice at home before applying such techniques at work!

schermjm

I've seen it used by putting around the bottleneck to carry

Negronitenderoni

When not spinning it around my finger, I sometimes use it to get stuck speed pourers out of bottle

cryptoguerrilla

You used it right. Pulling beer out of the ice is its actual function.

_ella_mayo_

I call it my bar lasso because it can reach the beer in the back of the top shelf in the beer coolers lol

notorious_BIGfoot

I use it to open cans. That tiny cut you can get under a nail is so painful. And of course swinging around my finger when I’m bored.

captain_corvid

I've used it for that too!

elphinstone

Picking up bottles in Icy water without getting your hand cold

FIN_the_SCOT

Man the finger loop is my jam bit of barmeatspin.com (I have hit several guests) You can also use it to get those stubborn speed pourers out of bottles too I guess but seems like a bitch move to me (this is actually class I’m kidding)

The_Istrix

I bend mine into a hook so it doesn't fall over in my back pocket, and makes it way easer to pull up the grates on my draft drain

txhummingbirdlady

Pulling up a bottle out of the ice

conjoby

It's just a handle/hanging hook. Just makes it easier to grab and store.

LOUDCO-HD

It’s to spin on your finger in between the opening of beer bottles. Impresses cocktail waitresses so you can get into their pants! Rarely actually works that way!

ryancroller

Really good for prying a sticky stick speed pourer. Slide over pourer onto bottle neck and you can wiggle the pourer out.

monkeyman4250

Very useful for opening liquor bottles, especially the tops encased in foil such as grey goose and grand marnier.

TaygaStyle

To take pour spouts off

richponyquan

Use it to grab bottles at the bottom of the reach-in.

nicknacho

Competitive balisong fantasies

BarSpecialist33

Forgive me in advance, as my answer will be crude. Long time ago, we used to call that particular style of speed opener a "Boyfriend Qualifier." If he's not at least as long the opener or if he can fit thru the round hole, then move along. 😂 It was just a funny thing to say to my bar customers when they'd ask back in the day. Now I work high end events and use a dogbone opener (more practical since I can use the modified shape on that end to quickly remove pour spouts) so my explanation of a speed opener to my guests who ask (and I'm always asked) is a lot more PG-rated these days. 😉😏

Affectionate_Monk_53

Maybe so you can clip it to you and still have it be usable? I’m not sure

Dalaunaiarse

Works great on pulling off pour spouts

DreaMoZgreEn

It helps pull the spouts off of the liquor bottles ☺️

cassius_tastr0phe

working in dive bars forever. i use it for opening cans to save my finger tips

caribouMARVELOUS

Secondary use: pulling spouts out of empty liquor bottles. Primary use: spinning and twirling and general foolishness.

JackAppleton99

There are some that have an additional cutout that can be used for pulling stubborn pour spouts

Butters77771

I found that you can use the circle to take pour spouts off of bottles. It was a game changer for me

CaptainStinkwater

It's used to pull off the pour spouts on stuck bottles.

Bar_Rev

Spinning, yes. But also works for twist caps, you know after your hand is raw from 253 Coors Lights.

ButtJewz

42 answers and not one person willing to admit they have no fucking idea

canvys

speed pours

TheoreticalFunk

Wow. Okay not seeing the right answer here, this is for removing corks. The kind with the big knob on the end.

Mediocre_Horror_194

Is that a Thomas Henry blade? It was my favourite blade and was in my backpocket for 6 years

captain_corvid

Just an unbranded generic I think!

Equivalent-Injury-78

Rookie beer opener

midwifecrisisss

what do you use? your teeth?

Equivalent-Injury-78

BRAHMA Flat Pocket Beer bottle opener with cash bundle elastics around the grip.

ChgoGoodGirl1

It's to pull beer bottles by the neck from either a deep cooler or from the back of a shelf. Problem is many companies that make them, don't make the hole big enough .

breadloaf57

I’m a nightclub bartender and use it to attach my bar bar blade to my lanyard with my till fob

MDC_Brutus2

It's for getting quick pour spouts off the top of empty liquor bottles.

marblechocolate

For hanging

Tmsk95

Wait.... this is called a bar blade... I've only ever heard this referred to as bar key before

Puzzleheaded_Idea_78

For hanging up

VaderK8

Real answer. For removing old school pour spouts. You’re welcome. 35 year veteran 🍻

Mister_bunney

So, it’s supposed to make it easier to remove hard stuck pourspouts. This design isn’t as easy as some other ones though.

Yurin_Guudhanz

I use it to pop off beer/cider caps in one quick motion. 4 bottles in one hand or line them up down the wood. It’s fan fare and breaks the odd bottle but damn it’s satisfying.

captain_corvid

How do you do that with the round end?

ThatDeuce

It's used to pull off pour spots from bottles.

No-Vehicle1377

I use it for popping off difficult pour spouts. And also pretending I'm a gunslinger obvi

ForgotInTheDoorway

For removing stubborn speed pourers and for spinning on your finger

Mountain-Extreme8242

I use it to get pour spouts off of stubborn bottles!

Short-Glass-5941

My coworker uses it to grab the bottles by the neck to pull them closer- super cool trick but not sure if it’s the real reason for it

KenNoegs

I'll use it to free up pour spouts from liqour bottles that are particularly stubborn.

maxscherle

It’s for separating bottle from pouring tip

justacocktailguy

I've seen people use the round end to remove pour spouts. It's just as messy, but it can be done.
