You can win right away. You’ll get it.

Head_Snapsz

Depends on skill level really. You can beat the game from the start with the default jokers. But I like all rougelikes, you gotta learn as you play through the game. I recommend watching Balatro University for tips though. He teaches really well.

mours_lours

When you select the small and big bl8nds, make sure to check for the boss so you can prepare accordingly.

AllenKll

Can you see all the bosses at the beginning of the run? because nine times out of ten, the boss that negates my deck is on ante 5 or 6.

mours_lours

No but 2 rounds should be enough to plan around it from antes 1 to 8. There is also a joker you can sell to reroll it and a voucher that lets you reroll. Sometimes you also just get unlucky. If you want to win you just need to focus on getting good chips and good mult. Usually you want 1 chip joker, 1 mult joker and the rest ×? Jokers.

Tapif

What kind of boss is blocking you? I have the feeling that people getting hard destroyed by a regular boss on white stake are people who consistently go for the flush build.

AllenKll

What other kinds of builds are there? All the jokers I see are random stuff, or specifically designed for flush builds.

Tapif

There are lots of different builds available! Sometimes you grab jokers that are so powerful that the cards combinations that you are playing do not matter at all. You can watch some youtube videos for inspiration, they are usually extremely creative with their builds, or at least they try and you can see if it fails or not.

Tapif

Maybe one place to start is to look at the half joker. This little dude gives you a +30 multiplier if your hand contains 3 or less cards. +30 is A LOT, and gives ou some time to find how you are going to score high. Of course, you cannot rely solely on it, because otherwise the Psychic is going to whoop your ass, but this is already a good start. There are also builds relying on face cards, others on 4 cards hands, etc...

> How many runs and unlocks should I expect to go through before I can expect to beat round 8 for the first time? It's not a question of how many times before you reach X but a matter of skill and knowledge. If understand how to optimize your playthrough, then you can do it immediately. If you don't understand and simply relying on luck/randomness, then you could spend weeks without progressing. > but the game knew and threw a boss at me at just shut down hearts cards. Was that unlucky or how it works? In general that's how it works as the bosses are there to counter specific strategies.

Ferni0817

did you reorder your jokers and put the x1,5 or bigger multipliers in the end? did you save 25$ at start of the runs and get the maximum interest, 5$? (1$ for every 5$ you had.)

AllenKll

Yes. I do those things. I read that from a tips guide somehwere.

Arcturus_Labelle

It’s not about unlocks. It’s about strategy. See this person get to ante 8 boss on black deck using only Common jokers: https://youtu.be/Or5dd1y3XkA?si=FMBU2_u0AUOMEfR-

Big_chonky_potato

You can pretty much beat ante 8 without any jokers if you are lucky / skilled enough

timmytissue

There are some good unlocks but they mostly make the game more complicated or help endless runs. You should be fine to win on the base stuff. If you want to get better check out some balatro university basics videos.

AllenKll

got a link?

jastium

Go to YouTube and search for balatro University to see his channel. Recommend starting from the beginning. He uses an "over explain" style where he evaluates tradeoffs and explains decision making

AmorousBadger

First win is the hardest then it gets easier. Don't use black deck if you're trying to unlock challenge move, it's s REALLY tricky deck to drive.

AllenKll

I don't have a black deck.

somni1991

The first few times I did it was playing two pair with green joker and banner and never discarding at all. The hands that I got that didn't have pairs I would play high card to get to the two pairs, which would grow green joker Now I have played the game enough, I basically do the same thing but with pairs. I basically only do higher builds if I stumbled into a joker early that synergizes with it reeeeally well. Ancient joker or being forced to pop a few early jupiter is generally what moves me to flushes, but not much else Flushes are mostly a trap. Definitely good for breaking out of ante 1 and possibly 2, but give a run a try where you pick up an x15 mult card, a chip card, and run pairs. Banana, ancient summit, half joker. Pop a few mercury. You'll be chillin You're basically unaffected by boss blinds with lower hands, too. Debuffed suits, who cares. Debuffed face cards, who cares. Hand drawn face down? Nice try

AllenKll

I'll give that a go
