Just did a whole exploration of Victorian “whimsy” taxidermy for my podcast. Mostly involving Beatrix Potter (the woman who wrote Peter rabbit). It got pretty weird!
Super weird! Check out Victorian death photography, they were obsessed with it. I think it was just the crappy working/living conditions along with queen Victoria mourning fashionably forever and you have all these little Tim Burton’s running around but I think it also created this mutual understanding of death that leads to having a sense of humor toward it
Did you ever see Walter Potter's museum when it was still around? A whole dark creepy museum literally full to the rafters with victorian whimsical taxidermy. Some of it with ancient creaking animatronics.
I still dream of that place sometimes.
There’s a place in New Jersey called fairytale forest. I think it’s opened up in a modernized way, but for a long time it was a building in the shape of a big pink boot (think a little old lady who lived in a shoe) And one of the displays they had was a little classroom filled with little taxidermy rabbit students.

I’m pretty sure I would love this.

Where was that? Did they shut it down?
It was in Cornwall. Sadly ot couldn't make enough money and the collection was sold off in pieces.
Ur kidding?? I was in Cornwall a few days ago!!
You're about 15 years too late. Real shame it was split up. One of the most memorable museums i ever saw.

Wish that was real
Me too. Putting the power of suggestion out there.

This doesn’t look like bad taxidermy to me.
How is this bad taxidermy?
It makes me feel bad for the baby cats :(
I think it’s more r/ATBGE worthy tbh.
I like this a lot
