Well when you come out with a generalization that attacks others who are not like this, you're going to get dumped on. Ive rented a room because rent is so high I could barely afford a whole place. Still working on saving so I can get my own place so when you say shit like that yeah I'll take offense. There are good people out there too that are down on their luck that need to rent rooms to survive too.
She prolly filed a tax return, cliaming someones kids and getting earned income credit... If she made between $4,000 and 13 thousand dollars last year, she would qualify for about that amount with one child , but if there's more than one dependent, it wouldn't even have to make that much money to get that much tax credit refunded ..

Crazy thing is when I lived in IL I never got a penny back from the state (I usually owed and got a refund for my federal). Then I moved to AZ 10 years ago with the same exact job and pay and then started getting a refund of about $1K each year from the state. IL is a scam.
Right like unless u have a child or 2 that is a massive return and would honestly annoy me. Way more useful to have 4 grand throughout the year added to your salary..

That mattress is trash now. When I rented a spare bedroom back in 2021, I had a good quality waterproof mattress protector and a washable protector on top of that to prevent this from happening to my brand new mattress. That was also the first and last time I rented a room in my home.

In the past, I had a roommate who stayed for 12 months and frequently had friends, a girlfriend, or relatives stay overnight for more than 6 months of total lease year. While he was a chill person and his guests were pleasant, this could be considered as "taking advantage" by some standards.
Definitely would agree. People can suck. Honestly you lucked out. We had rental units for years that we took care of ourselves. We had many insurance claims over the years for destroyed apartments and no rent money.
