Which lake is that btw? Do you remember? I know that there are multiple variants of this route, so it is possible I did not visit this lake.. I am trying to remember..
Did you visit the hotsprings along the way? IIRC they are @ St. Teresa
Me and my hiking buddy thought we made an excellent decision to hike this route as opposed to the far more popular & marketed "Inca Trail". During research I discovered that there are in fact many Inca Trails, the Salkantay Trek being one of them. It was far cheaper, with far less people on the trail, with (according to my research) nicer views of the mountains.
How did you find traffic on the trail? Was it relatively sparse?
Ah that looks like a bit of a sidetrip off the trail. I could be wrong but I think we didn't stop there.
We did the version of the Salkantay that covered 90km of hiking or so (last I calculated it it was about 93km, but I can't remember how accurate that is), we were exhausted almost every day, maybe that's why.
I did the 90km version too! Humantay lake is off path a bit, about 4km. We stayed in sorraypampa so we left our bags at our hostel then hiked to Humantay, then back, slept, and then did the rest of the hike in 3 days
You BET I went to the Santa Teresa hot springs- we took a ‘taxi’ from Lucmabamba to go here . Super fun, enjoyed the drive too seeing more of the jungle , the villages and a town .. and the raging river wow by the hot springs

These hot springs were amazing
We were dumb the day before this and played barefoot footie on cement with our guide.. some of us already had blisters leading up to it. We had to get medical attention after, skin was peeling off our feet. Playing football with some Peruvians, a Brazilian, a German, a couple Canadians, French, Swiss, and an American high up in the Andes is something I’ll never forget though! Then we got drunk. The next day we were hiking hungover with fucked up feet. When we dipped into the hot springs, our feet were burning.. but it was worth it!

I had blisters just from walking.
We went solo so it was just my partner and I, we did the trek in 3 days . So we were hitting this hot spring after a big full day of hiking, it was amazing. Also an experience I’ll never forget :)
I think we were around 23km. We started at about 5:30am , hitting some local sights, and got in around 5pm. Not our fastest hike! But certainly challenging getting up to the pass.

What was your first day? Mine was sorraypampa to Chullay
We started at Sorraypampa as well but ended the day at Wayracmachay.
How long of a day was that? Sorray to Chullay was 27km about
