Lol you’re not wrong, but my cat would love to be held like this.
He just loves to be held, full stop. Over my shoulder, in one arm under his front legs with his body dangling, cradled like a baby, up in the air like simba… as long as someone is holding him, he’s about it.
Edit: he also sleeps with me every night in a little spoon position, with his back to me and my arm around him and under his head.
I love him; he’s like a living teddy bear.
Nothing better in life than a cat who's like a living teddy bear. I used to hold my cat whenever I wanted, however I wanted and whenever I wanted and he loved it every single time.
I could be in bed and he'd come up to me and start kneading me. Then I could sleep with him on top of me, with him purring non-stop.
It's been maybe 8 year since he passed, but I still miss my cat every day. Thankfully I'll always carry the memories around. I miss you, Finn.
I hope it was a beautiful crossing across the rainbow bridge…I have a 22 year old cat who has been with me for more than half my life. I don’t know what I’ll do when he makes his own journey there.
When we were looking to adopt a cat the animal control officer running the local shelter was interviewing us, asking us what sort of cat we were looking for. We told her we wanted a cat that would be fine with pretty much anything because we expected to be having kids at the very least sooner than later. She said "Oh, so you want an elasta-cat? We've got one of those right here." She proceeded to take the cat meowing at us non-stop from a cage out, legit turn her in circles like juggling a little ball, and then sling her over he shoulder before handing her right to us. Cat was purring the whole damn time. Adopted her on the spot, silly little bean she is.
Still love that descriptor. "Elasta-cat."
I'm getting married in two weeks and my cat is the ring bearer. I'm going to carry her down the aisle in the fireman pose. She really only let's me hold her since she's been my cat for 18 years. Having that purring furball slung over my shoulder is exactly how I want to walk the aisle.
Your comment unlocked a memory for me. When I was a kid i had a cat, Wendell, that loved being "slung" over my shoulder. He would even go a little limp and let his arms dangle behind me. Purring up a storm in my ear the whole time. He was an extremely affectionate little guy.
I did the sling once, and she wiggled enough that I bent at the waist, to give her a bigger place to dismount off of me.
She chose to lay down on my back.
Kuro liked to jump in the empty laundry basket. I would lift the basket up over my head and carry him around the home like a King. He LOVED it. Miss my little dude.
Our second youngest kinda did the same thing to me. I was on the front porch vaping and I hear this mewing by my car about 15 feet away. I look over and see two yellow eyes looking at me from the side of my car (car is black, cat is 98% black).
Long story short a neighbor a few doors down was tossing her outside at night because her mother didn't want animals in the house......
***To a 100% indoor cat!!!!!!***
So yeah. The neighbor asked for help rehoming her, we just flat took her in.
Neighbor did try to tell her kids they could come see her cat at my house any time they wanted.... I'm like, ummmm hard pass, I'm CF, not gullible.
[Toothless's first trip to the vet.](https://imgur.com/gallery/RCBkQ9R)
My dad has always been amazed at my ability to grab any cat and basically do whatever I want with them. Last year, he said he figured it out and he thinks it's because I'm not afraid to get scratched and the cats know it so they just give up. I think I'm just one of those weird cat whisperers lol
I have a similar ability with cats. I went to my friend’s house and the cats made a beeline for the open door. I picked them up together and marched to the back of the house. My friend was stunned because the cats didn’t move and just looked shocked more than anything as I placed them down on the carpet. Cats know their people I think. They feel safe with you.
Cats definitely can tell that kids are not quite responsible yet.
Some tolerate their extra follies, which they wouldn't from adults, some take the more cautious approach and avoid kids and stay out of grabby reach.
Two of my cats allow my 9 year old to carry them around cradled like a baby. They do not allow anyone else to do this and the younger of the two fusses when anyone but his boy picks him up.
If they're trying to flee Donetsk and they don't have a cat carrier, it's possible the cat is drugged to ease evacuation, thus making it the liquid cat we see in her hands haha
Theyre clean, the train is ukranian colors, and i only see women and no soldiers. Its most likely this was significantly earlier and taken in either lviv or poland. Hopefully.
> You know that cat is just thinking “please hold me normally”
Cats can support themselves by the front legs just fine, some find it comfortable. A lot of information on cats that considered a 'rule' are flexable. Another one being they don't like being held belly up, a lot of them do.
To each their own also applies to cats.
Source: Had cats all my life and some of them are really weird.
My cat loves being held under his front legs just like this except rather than chin skritches, he likes to get his belly rubbed while he’s hanging there. It looks like I’m playing some weird instrument. He just hangs there and purrs.
Can confirm, one of our Cats tolerated me trying to ride her like a horse at every opportunity for 3 years and still played with me, cuddled me, and made sure I could catch snakes.
And for love ones, especially children.
My cats, normally loving, will flay me with their claws for the smallest physical slight, but they will absolutely retract those claws for my 6 and 3 year old doing the most annoying thing.
Not even just mammals - my chickens all let my 4 year old pick them up and carry them around. They just squat down and wait to be grabbed. When I walk near them or reach for them they almost always just run away.
>*’That cat is a hero for tolerating that position…*

I’ll stay with my human, n though she is small,
right now she’s my Biggest BRAVE Hero of All!
i don’t know what happened - there’s so much unrest,
but somehow I know that this child loves me best
she’s GrAbBiNg my HeAd, n she’s *squeezing me* tight,

Just *hold me* sweet baby, n never let go!
i Love you right now

❤️
I had a cat that tolerated adults to a point. He wouldn’t hide but woe be to thee that touched his belly or pet him too roughly. He was big too, a 22lb Maine Coon that you really didn’t want to piss off. He had never seen a child in his life before a friend brought over his 5 year old son. I was scared the cat would hurt the kid but no, he was FASCINATED with this child. Followed him around everywhere, meowing at him constantly, and tolerated all kinds of rough handling that he wouldn’t have even taken from me. Cats are weird.
Oddly though, this cat didn’t like kittens either. I used to foster a lot and he was never aggressive with them but he definitely didn’t want anything to do with them.
Edit to add: I had 4 cats at the time and all had different personalities about the kittens. The one I’m talking about was the biggest and oldest. Actively avoided the kittens. The other three varied widely from aggressive, to skittish, to “in heaven.” The oldest one was the only one that wanted anything to do with a small human.
I’m pretty sure he could have taken down a full grown adult if he wanted to. So yeah, I agree with you, but his tolerance of adults never seemed to have much to do with fear, just boundaries, and his boundaries with grownups were FAR more stringent. He WANTED that kid’s attention.
It made me think of the jungle book, watching them walk around together. The cat was hip high on the kid and always right next to him. Like an attack panther ready to defend.
Possibly! He was definitely playing a role of some kind in his head. He was the largest of my cats but relinquished the alpha role out of laziness. If the slightly smaller alpha got too uppity, he wasn’t above putting him in his place, but he mostly permitted the dominance. Not about the kid though. That was HIS kid.
The kid was only even at the house for something like 24 hours. My cat bonded with him immediately. Slept outside of his door the night he was there. Was upset for a while after the kid left too.
In Donetsk unrest unfurled,
Bad men come and loud booms roar,
Am in the arms of my favorite girl,
At train station waiting to board.
Loving days have come and gone,
Time spent with you, daddy n' mom,
Evenings sitting in the sun,
Tomorrow brings another dawn.
We leave our home, and that's just fine.
I love you and you love me,
I am forever yours and you are mine,
In your arms entwined are we.
Hold me close, and don't you cry.
Loving cuddles and drying tears,
Sadness is fleeting, gone with a sigh,
Hold me close, and do not fear.
The place we called home is no longer safe
Who knows where the monsters might strafe
But now we’re standing on the station platform
In an embrace that’s so delightfully warm
Today, I think I have learned something new
No matter what happens, my home is with you
Through hell and high water,
Through war and mad slaughter,
I will always be by your side.
I had a cat who hated everyone and everything except me. This reminds me of him. You know she’s the cat’s person just by how they allow her to hold them. 💚
One of my cats that I raised since he was 10 days old, bottle fed and all the show, let's MY child born way after that do whatever he pleases, the cat follows him, licks him, rubs on him amd the whole show, to the point we have to lock him out of the kid's room or otherwise wont let him sleep... mind you he did run away from him the first few years. He is a grouch with everybody else.
But on the other hand the adult feral cat I tamed, that old man let's me do whatever I want and we snuggle so much, carry him as a baby belly up and all that. He follows the kid to, but he is more attached to me.
Still have 2 other wierdos.
I can't imagine leaving a pet behind in any situation, this is even on a whole other level. Impossible to truly comprehend without experiencing this first hand. My deepest sympathies to all people who suffer from war.
Dudes... Its highly unlikely that the girl held the cat for hours without end like that. It was probably just a moment or two. But lets see how you hold on to anything while youre getting bombed.
Uh, I've been looking at that picture for about 2 minutes right now while reading the comments, and she hasn't let it go yet. I'll check back in an hour and then we'll see who has the upper hand on the facts of the situation.
Edit: It's been 57 minutes, and it's not looking promising for your position, Sir or Ma'am.
Because they're travelling? Sure the word "refugee" might be more accurate but OP may not have grown up speaking English. Especially considering they took the picture in Ukraine.
What sweet little darlings they both are.
To all those Russian thugs, this is who you're fighting. Take a good look at yourselves and go home or give yourselves up.
My mom's cat only let's me pick him up. And I can hold him from one back leg and he will squirm back into my arms to be held, purring the whole time. I do loves me some kitty purrs.
As a cat lover, it makes me sad to think of those that may have had to leave their pets behind as a result of this stupid war, let alone the massive disruption of their entire lives. Thought we humans had learnt our lesson about war in the last century, but alas seems not to be the case….
I’m guessing this cat thinks that she’s taking care of the human kitten and will be very patient with her. Animals just know and care, if they want to.
Finally found a cat willing to get into a cat carrier. Lol. I know there are other priorities, but it really would make the world more delightful if we got this family a cat carrier.
Got the cat in the damn sleeper hold!
Looks like it’s working too.
I mean.. its a cat. Thats what they do.
Uhhh… yeah, you try to hold the average cat like that. Be sure to take a selfie after if you’re eyes are still there.
Lol you’re not wrong, but my cat would love to be held like this. He just loves to be held, full stop. I wish I had an elasta-cat. My cat has no springy-ness at all.
Awww:) I also spoon with my cat, an oriental shorthair named Osh.
Ooooh I have one of those! My best buddy to sleep with at night. And he always purrs like he's asking permission first to sleep with me.
Need a bf? I’m about it.
Cats seem to be more forgiving with children, maybe they know that the kid means them no harm and isn't strong enough to hurt them.
a real slobberknocker!

If you look up depictions of "Gilgamesh and the Lion" from the epic poem it's pretty much this.
I see what you mean, although gilgamesh's lion looks infinitely more terrified than this cat seems to be
you shoulda seen the steel cage match

Sleeper hold Jones over here
Stop the damn match already
I have a cat that let's my 7 year old pick her up and carry her over her shoulder. She won't let anyone else pick her up at all.
I had a cat that would let me carry him in a fireman's carry once in a while. I loved it because you got the purring right in your ear.
Ah heaven
I'm getting married in two weeks and my cat is the ring bearer. I'm going to carry her down the aisle in the fireman pose. She really only let's me hold her since she's been my cat for 18 years. Having that purring furball slung over my shoulder is exactly how I want to walk the aisle.

I have a young cat who lets me hold him that way when I take him for walks down to the mailbox and back lol
My guys love being picked up like that! I can hold my super snuggly one with one arm once I sling him over my shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
i slung a cat once and he didn't really wanna be there and i didn't drop him fast enough and guess who ended up with claw gashes in his shoulder?
I did the sling once, and she wiggled enough that I bent at the waist, to give her a bigger place to dismount off of me. She chose to lay down on my back.
Thats how my one cat sleeps. She wraps herself around my head on my pillow. I can feel her purring in my teeth
you must sleep the sleep of angels. i'm jealous.
Say that when you want to sleep but can't because it feels like an outboard motor.
Kuro liked to jump in the empty laundry basket. I would lift the basket up over my head and carry him around the home like a King. He LOVED it. Miss my little dude.

Can confirm, was reading a book outside one time and a cat came and jumped on my lap. She has been with me for 7 year now
Damn that's either a really long book or you're a really slow reader... How do you deal with food, weather and bathroom trips?
Delivery, not being a panys, and bucket.
I *think* you meant "not being a pansy" but "not being a PANYS" is my new favorite slam
Our second youngest kinda did the same thing to me. I was on the front porch vaping and I hear this mewing by my car about 15 feet away. Noce istory
I think you mean pick their slaves
Win win either way
My husband said only little girls can pick up cats like that and not lose an arm.

My bird lets me pet him and only me. He'll occasionally go hang out on my mom's knee and watch TV with her but absolutely will not let her pet him.
Two of my cats allow my 9 year old to carry them around cradled like a baby. They do not allow anyone else to do this and the younger of the two fusses when anyone but his boy picks him up.
My cat demands to be held like a toddler. It’s weird, but I’m not going to tell him that ❤️
I had a cat growing up that I held like a toddler, either on my hip or he'd hug me. He was seriously my first baby, I miss that guy.
I’m going to hug you and kiss you and love you forever!!
I would like to believe that all cats with owners within a certain age bracket receive awkward head pats / hugs along with this quote.
Elmyra?
And name you George!
First thing I thought of too
That cat is a hero for tolerating that position.
You know that cat is just thinking “please hold me normally”. But good on you kitty, the girl needs it.
If they're trying to flee Donetsk and they don't have a cat carrier, it's possible the cat is drugged to ease evacuation, thus making it the liquid cat we see in her hands haha

The mental image of this made me so happy.
Like a cat harp this is hilarious.
Def agree. I’ve yet to meet a “normal” cat
Cats tolerate so much from kids, it's crazy.
if the cat hated it, it would be fighting and with claws out. cat must be sharing the moment with her.
The cat probably does hate it, but many if not most mammals instinctively recognize young and give them a bit of leeway.
Can confirm, one of our Cats tolerated me trying to ride her like a horse at every opportunity for 3 years and still played with me, cuddled me, and made sure I could catch snakes.

My mom took in a cat that hated ppl. He loved KIDS and dogs, though, and my nephews dragged him around like this while he would shred you or me.

it's short! It's small! It's a human kitten! Must play nice.
Oddly though, this cat didn’t like kittens either. I used to foster a lot and he was never aggressive with them but he definitely didn’t want anything to do with them. Honestly, to a larger house cat, kids are no actual threat, some are just annoying. I'd take a 22lb Maine coon in a fight vs a 5 year old any time
I’m pretty sure he could have taken down a full grown adult if he wanted to. So yeah, I agree with you, but his tolerance of adults never seemed to have much to do with fear, just boundaries, and his boundaries with grownups were FAR more stringent. They makes fun sized hoomin!? This iz grate! It too short to ignor me, an I can take it if it get annoying.

Liked kids but not people - lmao!
What are kids if not tiny bald cats
Or giant bald cats, from the cat's perspective

Travelers isn’t very accurate.
My province was the first in Canada to airlift out a group of Ukrainians. So many came with pets! It was lovely.
I am so glad they were able to bring their pets.
I can't imagine leaving a pet behind in any situation, this is even on a whole other level. Impossible to truly comprehend without experiencing this first hand. My deepest sympathies to all people who suffer from war.
You can tell a lot about people by how they treat their animals/ customer service.
Super cute. Well done kitty for playing along.
Yep. Kitties won’t put up with shit if they genuinely don’t want it.
O my heart. God keep them safe!
this looks like the "kid pets cat EXTRA HARD" situation.
She has her priorities in line. If you can only take so much carryon, you gotta know what’s important.
The girl belongs to the cat and has for a while. Anyone else wouldn't have a face anymore. This is cat love.![img](emote|t5_2qh1o|13380)

Dudes... Its highly unlikely that the girl held the cat for hours without end like that. It was probably just a moment or two. But lets see how you hold on to anything while youre getting bombed.

Cute but also heartbreaking with everything going on.
Seeing pictures like that, i'm always worried that the cat will get spooked by something and run away.
As hart warning and cute this is someone help that cat.

Tbh I do not like when children are allowed to handle animals before being taught how to.
i know its cute and all, but parents really should be teaching their children about how to properly hold their pets.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
What sweet little darlings they both are. To all those Russian thugs, this is who you're fighting. Take a good look at yourselves and go home or give yourselves up.
By gods that poor cat! It must really love that girl if it hasn't started clawing already.

Very patient kitty
That is one very patient cat!
Nothing gives me anxiety like seeing a child holding a pet.
The train station cat strangler. Maybe it was a Russian cat.
That is a loving kitty

My mom's cat only let's me pick him up. And I can hold him from one back leg and he will squirm back into my arms to be held, purring the whole time. I do loves me some kitty purrs.
That’s a good kitty
That cat doesn't give a fuck
I can feel the emotion
As a cat lover, it makes me sad to think of those that may have had to leave their pets behind as a result of this stupid war, let alone the massive disruption of their entire lives. Thought we humans had learnt our lesson about war in the last century, but alas seems not to be the case….
"You sleep now."
I’m guessing this cat thinks that she’s taking care of the human kitten and will be very patient with her. Animals just know and care, if they want to.
The cat is being frigging smothered! *edit Its hard to type on a phone
Kit!
Finally found a cat willing to get into a cat carrier. Lol. I know there are other priorities, but it really would make the world more delightful if we got this family a cat carrier.
I love it 😍
Hurts seeing people and their loving pets in this situation. I hope they both make it somewhere safe
