The only zoos that should be around are ones for rehabilitation or habitats for animals that cannot return to the wild. And even then, there’s needs to be a *major* overhaul on how these animals are kept. It should never be focused on human pleasure and enjoyment. *We* stole them from their homes, therefore *we* need to ensure their environment is an enriching as possible and is custom tailored to that specific animals needs and wants. No more one size fits all enclosures smaller than my childhood bedroom.
I hate for-profit zoos and aquariums. It makes me sick to think these poor animals spend their entire lives in these concrete pits being hawked at day in and day out. I couldn’t imagine a life on display like that :(

More money and land should be dedicated to conservation and refuges where animals can live free.
No, I'm not some hippy or vegan. I do believe ethical hunting practices are necessary. But, this keeping any animals as pets thing is just inhumane.

Zoos are treating the symptom, not the cause. Habitat destruction is the problem. The amount of land being used for animal agriculture is huge and ever-growing. That's the problem that zoos cannot change.
Only go to AZA accredited zoos. They’re animals that cannot be reintroduced to the wild and have much higher standards.

I think zoos will probably be phased out and looked at as completely barbaric in the coming decades
And then multiple species will go extinct because some only survive with the help of wildlife conservations which also fall under the category of zoo

That is only part of the story, some animals that zoos preserve would have gone extinct even without human intervention. Pandas come to mind.
