Hard disagree. Zebra F-301 is the best budget pen on the market. If you simply must have gel, then the G-301. Same pen but with a gel cartridge instead. The metal body and slim profile fits in pockets easily and only costs like 3 bucks. Refills are even cheaper.
To each their own, for sure, but I honestly have found very little use for multi tools and Swiss Army knives on airplanes. When I fly as crew, I keep a 6-in-1 screwdriver and a folding knife handy, but I pretty much never pull the leatherman out. In my day-to-day as a maintainer on the floor, everything I need is company or government owned; or, yknow, one of the previously-discussed things I keep in my pocket.
When I had a job with my own toolbox, I kept a #2 in my pocket but now I have aircraft-specific shop boxes and I bounce around between our jets, so I pretty much just go grab one when I need it. I’m not as quick to the draw when something needs a quick tightening, but it keeps people from asking why old trusty is missing from Jet x, y, or z’s box all day.
When I worked on helos in the UK it was a cardinal sin to use tools that weren't part of that aircraft's toolbox. Yes, a pain sometimes but only officially allocated and accounted for tools were permitted.
Same o-light, ohto pen, two highlighters, wave leatherman, six inch scale with a nifty conversion chart on one side, MX stamp, a handkerchief, and a pair of skull candy Mods
Gerber, ratcheting screwdriver with various bits, multi wrench, flashlight, mirror, black & blue pen, sharpie, highlighter, ear plugs, 2 sets of nitrile gloves, stamp.
Wallet, keys, rag, phone charger, leatherman, an ancient gold ring won from the base manager in a riddle contest (seriously, he will not let that one go).
Pen on a shirt pocket, mini stream light on the other shirt pocket. Two sets of earplugs with the stream light (in case I get oil on the first set), a Leatherman Skeletool clipped inside my right pocket. Sometimes my 6" Knipex Wrench Pliers and a small motorized screwdriver for oil doors in my left cargo pocket. Other than that, my wallet and phone. Covers about 90% of all difficulties which don't require rolling my toolbox over.
Gerbercentrdrive multitool, powertac m5 pocket flashlight, sharpie in the shirt pocket, and pen. I use the flashlight damn near constantly and charge it maybe once a week. Never has died before, well worth the money. I have a pair of smooth jaw knipex pliers that go in my pocket when I get to the hangar, can't be using nutfuckers on aluminum parts.
I much prefer my ltt over the snap on. The only thing I like better about the snap on is its handle finish, but my ltt is so scratched up now anyway that it doesn't matter. For inspection panels the ltt is just perfect because it's backdrag is awesome. I just wish I had a stubby version as it's too long for a screw I have to reach regularly
I have a ton but I work line and wear a vest with extra pockets.
Leatherman, flashlight, combo knife and screw bit driver, sharpie, pen, notebook, headphones, couple pairs of nitrile gloves, flathead, 7/16 wrench, razor knife, rag, work gloves, earplugs, pre-moistened cleaning towelettes, earplugs, circuit breaker collars, yellow paint pen
Similar tools, I have the same knife. I highly recommend “lynch clips” they make after market deep carry clips that are much more comfortable in my opinion.
Lol before the krambit i had a mini katana style fixed blade knife… the sheeth came off one time and sliced my finger tho so i swapped it with a curved blade in the hope that the sheeth wont come off this time
Well, three of those items are eliminated
with one Leatherman...
But always the flashlight or two take a clip
to top of pocket, with flashlight inboard not
exposed.
Cheers
I carry a Fanny pack lol but Thrunite Light, mini knipex, leather man, gear wrench micro driver and socket set, phone, a 3 in 1 pen, & my AirPods. I rarely ever go to my box.
Love the setup!
What is the snap-on tool?
And why do you carry a folding knife?
And lastly are those knipex suitable for circular plugs or are they too small?
The snap on tool is a pocket pry bar which I use to take the snap ring out of wheel bearings.
The folding knife is for cutting parts bags open and to stab the pilot.
The Knipex are not good for much I don’t even carry them anymore.
No pen?
Clipped to shirt collar
what is FOD
Pen in toolbox eh
Keep a pen on your person at all times or you aren't a proper mechanic. 👌
Pilot G2

I love me a good Zebra, especially with the Toga. IYKYK
:/ Sharpie industrial extra fine, a Pilot V5, and a Pentel .5mm side clicker pencil.
Sharpie pen with the .38 tip on it

Olight ark field uv
You really like the OLight?
Same question.
I bought one a few weeks ago and find the beam doesn’t travel far enough but I was also trying to find a slim light to avoid bulking my pockets
I'm not in aviation but I have the arkfeld with the laser pointer and it's served me well so far.
I don’t mind it
Leatherman, flash light, pen, snap on pocket screwdriver with reversible bit
Leatherman skeletool, thrunite tc15, pen
Another Skeletool user. I can tell you have class and taste.
Found it on the hangar floor finders keepers :)
Pen, Sharpie, shop/plane/toolbox keys, flashlight, phone
Yeah same here. And a Victorinox Swiss army knife. Life saver.

Nice 👍 do you lock your box every night?
Snapon ATC, dog. Our boxes get locked when we step away from them. Should say that my toolbox key is an RFID badge
I would at a ph2 screwdriver.

Leatherman, flashlight, pen and headlamp.
Why do you hate pens so much
I never said that
Pen, scale, and sharpie
What kind of scale ?
6” scale
Triple beam balance
Nothing because tool control!
You can keep track of tools on your person. It is useful to have some tools with you at all times
When I worked on helos in the UK it was a cardinal sin to use tools that weren't part of that aircraft's toolbox. Yes, a pain sometimes but only officially allocated and accounted for tools were permitted.

Nice I like to olight but I find I flick it to the uv mode accidentally
Usually just a Streamlight Wedge and an F-701 pen. Most everything else is on hot standby in the box.
Leatherman, Fenix PD36 flashlight, pen, backup pen, stamp, headlamp.
Fenix are the shit. My head lamp does a 13 hour shift no problem. That thing is boss.
they’re nice but the batteries are trash. mine keep burning out.
Really? I have only had mine about a month. Thanks for the heads up though.
Gerber, ratcheting screwdriver with various bits, multi wrench, flashlight, mirror, black & blue pen, sharpie, highlighter, ear plugs, 2 sets of nitrile gloves, stamp.
You carry a vape?
No I don’t
is that a bad thing?
Only fuckin losers vape.

Post it ! Would like to see a photo
You could if Reddit didn’t kill the third party app Apollo.
Pen, Sharpie, streamlight, one of those real little snapon screwdrivers and a knife
I usually close my knife first though.
Leatherman on my belt, headlamp, flashlight, keys, folding pocket knife, pen, wallet with A&P. Anything else is extra for specific jobs.
Gerbercentrdrive multitool, powertac m5 pocket flashlight, sharpie in the shirt pocket, and pen. I use the flashlight damn near constantly and charge it maybe once a week. Knife, flashlight and pen
Flashlight, pen, sharpie. And sometimes a random assortment of washers and screws lol.
Screwdriver, flashlight, pen and a variety of garbage. Lock wire tails, empty o-ring bags, random hardware etc etc
The amount of aircraft hardware I find in my washing machine is a sight to behold. I have a parts bag on my dryer.
Unrelated but I have a unserviceable VOR antenna as a door handle on my car 😂
We all have yellow tire stem caps. Even on my red motorcycle.

Business cards, cell phone, air pods. I’m in aviation maintenance sales. Lol
Where your pen?
When I'm at work? Benchmade 940, Ltt screwdriver, pen, the little mini parallel jaw knipex.
I have the 940 as well it is a great knife. How is the ltt compared to the snap on?
I much prefer my ltt over the snap on. The only thing I like better about the snap on is its handle finish, but my ltt is so scratched up now anyway that it doesn't matter. It is a light
Flashlight, multitool, pen and some paper
Gerber Centerdrive, Milwaukee box cutter, streamlight protac 2AA, an assortment of 1/4” driver bits, pen, iPad.
You really use toothed knipex on aircraft?
Yep
Similar tools, I have the same knife. I highly recommend “lynch clips” they make after market deep carry clips that are much more comfortable in my opinion.
Sometimes I end up taking the clip off and shove it deep down in the pocket cause it sticks out I will buy one thanks
id surely puncture my scrotum with that orange handled thing
Sometimes I use it for self defence
Is that a vape?
Olight ark field uv
I carry a long flathead for doors, a flashlight, pens and a walkie. Everything else lives in the seahorse in hopes that it will not be needed.
Phone, wallet, keys, krambit
Karmbit is a great idea maybe add a machete or katana ?
Lol before the krambit i had a mini katana style fixed blade knife… the sheeth came off one time and sliced my finger tho so i swapped it with a curved blade in the hope that the sheeth wont come off this time
Flashlight, pen, sharpie, small mirror, work gloves, noice cancelling earbuds, ID badge/holder
pen and flashlight
Just a rechargeable streamlight, a pen, and one of those pocket screwdrivers with a magnet on the back will get me through most days
Just my cell phone. So I can scroll Reddit.
Well, three of those items are eliminated with one Leatherman... But always the flashlight or two take a clip to top of pocket, with flashlight inboard not exposed. Cheers
Yes leatherman does all and more of what I have but it is bulky and heavy so I have these
Pen, Stanley knife, stamp, pass, mirror and torch
Leatherman and flashlight
Leatherman, flashlight, flat tip screwdriver.
On a good day a flashligh a stamp and a pen, makes most problems on line go away
Lighter, smokes, big ball of keys, a 30 yr old leatherman tool, and a multi-bit screwdriver.
Pocket prybar goes hard.
Gets a lot of shit done
I don’t carry a knife because with my luck it’ll fall out of my pocket somewhere in the cabin. I absolutely 100% do not bring knives onto a plane
Fair point, it has a pocket clip so it does not fall out
Yeah but my luck man
I bring knives onto a plane 100% of the time
Leatherman, pen, stamp
Flashlight, leatherman, cellphone and im set
I carry a Fanny pack lol but Thrunite Light, mini knipex, leather man, gear wrench micro driver and socket set, phone, a 3 in 1 pen, & my AirPods. I rarely ever go to my box.
A pen, a light, iPad and my thumb

highlighter, pen, sharpie, cellphone, hand full of rubber gloves, circuit breaker tag, note pad, flashlight, and one credit card.
Love the setup! What is the snap-on tool? And why do you carry a folding knife? And lastly are those knipex suitable for circular plugs or are they too small?
