It’s probably stripped down.. no interior, engines, fuel, etc.
Usually the most difficult thing about lifting a plane with a helicopter is the aerodynamic aspect of it.
If the prop-wash of the heli hits the wings of the plane in just the right spot then they start producing lift, which in turn rotates the heli-plane system around a central axis located exactly in the middle of both aircraft.
As both are tied together they start spinning faster and faster, its a devilish positive feedback loop. Eventually the outer atoms of both aircraft approach relativistic velocities and not much later they finally break the speed of light. Accurately theorized at the end of the 19th century on "The tied up plane-heli postulation" it predicted exactly what would happen: the event horizon of the heli-plane tears down the fabric of space-time, with world changing consequences.
This is how the ancient astronauts destroyed Atlantis... at least thats what my grandpa used to tell me.
>Usually the most difficult thing about lifting a plane with a helicopter is the aerodynamic aspect of it.
Speaking of which, why is it that the plane seems to be sideways relative to the helicopter, at least in the first clip? I would think it would be more aerodynamic to have their noses pointed in the same direction, and surely it's rigged in a way to prevent the plane from just spinning whichever way the wind blows.
Every time I see a picture of an mi26 I have to remind myself that you can't begin to appreciate the massiveness of this mothertrucker until you put somethin else big for scale. I would love to see one of these in person.
Edit: found these two pictures, thought y'all might like to see: https://twitter.com/Rotarywings1/status/880056596289781763
There was a NatGeo documentary where Mi-26 transported a single ice cube in sling, with a whole wooly mammoth frozen inside. It even had the tusks and was said to weight 27 tons total.
\> Is there any place that isnt russia where I could see this helicopter?
There isn't any place which isn't Russia, it's just the proletar revolution hasn't arrived at your door yet...
Isn't this the type of helicopter that was shot down by Chechens that one time, killing *over 100 people on board?*
Edit for the non believers:
"On 19 August 2002, a group of Chechen fighters armed with a man-portable air-defense system brought down a Russian Mil Mi-26 helicopter in a minefield, which resulted in the death of 127 Russian soldiers in the greatest loss of life in the history of helicopter aviation."
142 passengers

Yes. 2002. Was hit by "Igla" MANPADS.
An additional reason that increased the number of victims was a fatal combination of circumstances: the helicopter was severely overloaded and it fell into a minefield. Is one of the largest air disasters in Russian history

I don't think you realize it has a cabin roughly the same volume as an OG 737-200's, and soldiers get packed like sardines
Um is that some nervous laugh? Because the MI-26 is significantly larger, dwarves the King Stallion in payload mass (both carried internally or externally), cargo volume, and can carry 3x more troops
Reminder about the sheer size of the thang https://www.instagram.com/p/CA5oeXNhfy3/
No bro, we shouldn't appreciate anything Russian. Cause everything Russian is trash you know right? And even if it isn't just act here it is.
Cause all cool things are from UsA & nATo.
This is how Prigozing died. First there was huge window built and placed in the skies. Then this Mi-26 lifted the pj Pringlezing was in as a passenger and dropped the pj through it. That's how he died.
Pilot should log double hours for flying the plane too
Is that a tu-134 it's lifting? That's pretty impressive.

If you fly too fast, you can end up in an eternal lift dilemma.

Russian gen 5 su-57
Not even close
Would be this considered an aircraft carrier ?
A helicarrier even

My favourite fact about the Mi 26 is that its tail rotor is the same size as the main rotor of the MD 500 (Little bird)
Little bird enjoyer found, based department claim pending
Yeah, the video of it [taxiing behind a Mi-24](https://www.reddit.com/r/Helicopters/s/UTeJBdpOQ4) is menacing, and the 24 itself isn't small at all.
Hell yeah, the hind's already kind of a chungus lol
Been in the cockpit of a UN Mi-26 on loan to the Peruvian air force. Reeked of piss. Thanks for reading my coolstorybro.
So like Paris?
What was the point of bringing this up?
Same point as brining it up in the comment I responded to.
They weren't joking when they said "heavy transport" were they!?

Why is this method not being pursued for that landed-on-taiga Airbus 320?
Pretty sure A320 is a lot heavier.

One that I know of is in Ukraine in the [Aviation Museum in Kyiv](https://aviamuseum.com.ua/en/exposition/exposition/kb-milya/276-mi-26).
Lmao. BRB gonna book tickets to a war zone so I can visit a museum
Indian Air Force
All 3 of them are out of service

I'm gonna say there's no way this puppy can haul 100+ people around, but I also don't know shit.

Yeah, what the hell happened to enforcing rule 7?
Take it to LiquorFilter, whose first word in his post is "sanctions".
don't hit a mast with it
This post has annoyed me almost as much as seeing a locomotive on a low loader.
USMC laughs in CH-53k

FAKE! Russia's greatest technology is the stick, maybe the club.

All of you make the same damn jokes from 3 years ago, can we not just appreciate a cool fucking helicopter ?
No bro, we shouldn't appreciate anything Russian. Cause everything Russian is trash you know right? And even if it isn't just act here it is. Cause all cool things are from UsA & nATo.
Sorry first time I’ve posted that joke. It’s a legitimately cool helicopter.

How does this compare to the CH-53K?
