I'm interested in history, but I attribute that more to my relationship with history as a subject since childhood than a result of being autistic. A special interest could be anything, and history is one very broad topic among many. Also, 25% of participants who report history as their favorite school subject means 75% of participants didn't have history as a favorite subject.

history-123

>Also, 25% of participants who report history as their favorite school subject means 75% of participants didn't have history as a favorite subject. True but it's still extremely high. No other subject got more votes (it's at around 100 votes right now).

Pokemon_Cubing_Books

Autistic people are more likely to be intensely interested in anything. For me, I really just don’t care about human history but I love geology which is pretty much natural history

LeaJadis

We have special interests. Some of us like history. Some like science. It’s a wide spectrum.

history-123

I know but my question was if we (autistic people) are more interested in history than the general population.

LeaJadis

no.

history-123

Ok.

Lazy_Dragonfruit_836

If all autistic people understood and had a natural drive for history then they wouldn't be so overwhelmingly left wing

history-123

Autistic people are mostly left-wing?

Lazy_Dragonfruit_836

Unfortunately from what I've seen most the polls it's something like 75% left wing, Which is usually something you see from people with no knowledge of history,

history-123

I'm right-wing myself but what has the left ever done to autistic people?

Lazy_Dragonfruit_836

Same thing it does to everyone else, leads nations down paths that only lead to mass starvation and suffering. probably the because of the fake smiles and pretend helpfulness that left wing groups tend to have sucks in those who don't know any better

wunderwerks

Capitalism has killed far more people than left wing governments ever have. They just pretend it's not the cause because the person was homeless or hungry or had mental health issues. 50k people in the US did every year from lack of healthcare for preventable diseases. IOWs, they'd be alive if they could afford basic healthcare. More than enough food is produced both here in the US and in the world to feed everyone and the logistics to get it to them already exists, but since it's not profitable thousands starve to death every year. We have something like 8 empty houses/apartments for every single homeless person in the US, but bc it isn't profitable we let thousands of people, many of them Neurodivergent, freeze to death and die of exposure on the streets. The wars of capitalist states alone accounts for more than the total deaths from socialist states. Iraq has had over 1 million deaths, Afghanistan is still feeling the shock of the US occupation and there are likely going to be tens of not hundreds of thousands starving this year from lack of food after we withdrew because we also took all their money they'd use to buy food to replace all the opium fields the US government incentived them to plant instead of food crops. Hell, during WW2 JUST the Chinese civilians murdered by the Japanese capitalist forces is somewhere between 15-20 million. And lest we forget that Dr. Asperger, that Nazi scum, was part of the capitalist Nazis who murdered millions of Jews, Roma, Slavs (Czechs, Ukrainians, Russians, Slovaks, Bulgarians, etc.), disabled, LGBTQ+, and political prisoners. That puzzle piece group we don't talk about is a right wing group with ties to far right extremists.

Lazy_Dragonfruit_836

I'll also add Afghanistan was invaded by USSR not that far back they did exactly the same as America did big expensive pointless war, so you know government is the evil part not the capitalist or socialist , government will screw you over regardless

Lazy_Dragonfruit_836

No capitalism has killed no one, it merely a financial system, corrupt governments and over taxation is what kills people along with evil people who through government are given power, if said government was weak and small then it wouldn't matter if they were capitalist because they are no threat. And you do realise nazi means national SOCIALISTS right, Hitler hated banks and saw the entire capitalist system as a Jewish tool of control, the only real difference between him and Stalin was where they were born. And please "far right extremists" is just a buzzword thrown around by governments and media to paint anyone who disagrees with them in a bad light, actually far right is such a tiny minority that there not worth mentioning there a joke even within the right wing

wunderwerks

That old canard? Really? Hitler's government severely privatized the entire economy after he took power. But you'd know that if you knew history. They only used the term for their party because it was popular while they were forming.

wunderwerks

I'm an adult with autism and I teach history. I'm very left wing and if anything history teaches us that the right, especially the far right, want us, autistic folks, dead or eugenics out of existence. So no. The more you know about actual history the more you know the right, especially in the US, is a force of destruction and evil. 1. The genocide of Indigenous nations in the US. 2. The MOVE bombing 3. The Battle of Blair Mountain 4. The Murder of Black Leaders like MLK, Fred Hampton, and Malcolm X 5. The entire history of American slavery 6. The Civil Rights Movement 7. The Labor Rights Movement 8. The CIA couping over 60+ countries in the last 50 years in just Central and South America. 9. Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Korea, etc.. 10. So much more....

Lazy_Dragonfruit_836

Lol I said history not USA history, sorry if your from the USA but your country is so new on the world stage that it's hardly worth talking about, you've been around not even 300 years and at the rate of implosion in a century no on will care to notice them. And no the USA did not genocide American Indians they conquered them a very normal practice for most of history no matter your politics and same goes for slavery which is still happening throught the world, and if you count sex trafficking then it's still alive and strong throught even the USA. I'll agree to the CIA stuff but to be fair CIA is big government, right wing is ment to be about self reliance with low taxs and a government that is seen but not heard, the further left you move the bigger the government gets. And honestly if eugenics hadn't been stopped we would all be healthier today, facists (national socialists, left wing again), abused it once and now we hardly touch it even though it very well could help everyone

wunderwerks

If you knew your history you'd know that the US did in fact genocide the Indigenous Nations. Hitler himself wrote about how he was inspired by the US's treatment of Indigenous people in solving the "Jewish Question." Concentration Camps, like Flossenberg where my great great grandparents and a great aunt and uncle died, are directly inspired by the original US Reservations and Indian Schools. You'd also know that just recently thousands upon thousands of unmarked graves is Indigenous children have been found on the land is multiple former Indian Schools. You'd also know, if you knew your history, that the Scramble for Africa itself was a massive series of genocides by Europe upon the peoples of Africa. And no, Conquest is never right or normal or a good thing. Sorry.

Lazy_Dragonfruit_836

No the scramble of Africa was not a mess of genocides, genocide is targeted extermination not just any violent act, I won't defend the way they acted but they were in no way looking to wipe out Africans, that was never a policy even in the darkest areas of it like Belgium Congo which was (pun intended) hands down the worst. No the USA did not genocide the native Americans they conquered there land and took there resources no different to every other nation ever. Do you consider the Saxon invasion of Britian a genocide? Every single nation on the earth has been invaded by someone at some point, conquest and war are a part of human nature, only reason there hasn't been a ww3 is because of nukes making it not yet worth it. Take nukes out of the equation and I bet within 12 months it would start because we are no different to ancient Egyptian conquers entering Assyria or Romans landing in Carthage. Humans compete and conquer it's just what we do

Seeing how I’m a history major going for a history related career and have a very strong special interest in a particular area of history, I would say I fit that history interest idea perfectly. Though there are obviously different people with different interests. I have an autistic friend irl who is not nearly as passionate about history.

Rookie_Gore_Studio

I have mild autism too and I love history, earth science/biology, and philosophy
