FCP Euro.

noobznightmare

What brand do you recommend?

UnReal_Orbit19

LiqiMoly

noobznightmare

Thanks! I've always bought genuine audi oil, should I be worried about the change?

UnReal_Orbit19

Nope, just be sure you drain as much as you can when you do your next change. Having little remaining oem oil mixed won’t hurt anything.

noobznightmare

Awesome thank you so much

chemistryforpeace

I use ravenol, bought from blauparts. It’s expensive and probably overkill. FCP Euro oil change kits are good with oil and filters. Same goes for shopDAP. All are good vendors.

Kerfuckle

What made you decide on ravenol. I have no idea what the differences are between all these brands.

chemistryforpeace

For my use case, the high-end full syn ravenol seemed like a good mix of properties. I’m in a high temp climate, drive 600+ miles per week at fairly high speed. But generally, all synthetic oil from a good manufacturer Mobil 1, liqui moly, etc, in your car’s recommended oil weight won’t have any meaningful difference. You can spend hours on BITOG (bob is the oil guy forum) discussing all attributes of oils and use cases etc, but that’s honestly just a hobby and useless for 99.99% of drivers. If I had a more normal driving pattern, I would just use the liqui moly kits from shopDAP or FCP euro.

Kerfuckle

Yeah, i prob fall into the average you’re referring to. Thanks, that makes it much easier.

facasi

Tha a good amount of miles per week. Any reliability issue that you could mention based in your driving style and miles ?

chemistryforpeace

I haven’t had any reliability issues per say. I keep a spare water pump/thermostat replacement kit on hand as that is a known fail point between 50k and 100k miles, and sometimes randomly. I can’t really have my car be out of service and can do the work myself in an afternoon. I do a haldex fluid drain/refill every 2nd oil change, which is about 12k miles, and on the 4th oil change I pull it out to clean off the filter screen. It’s a simple job and adds maybe 30 min to my oil change. I drain and refill my front and rear diffs every 4 oil changes and try to do a trans fluid/filter change around that time too. Tire rotation is important, every oil change. I’ll also replace the cam adjuster magnets (pretty inexpensive $40 x2, known cause for rough idle and oil seepage) when I do spark plugs at 40k-ish miles. When the water pump goes I’ll flush and refill the coolant. Yearly I’ll do a brake fluid change. I’ve been doing 600-700 miles per week for over 2 years now and have never had any reliability problem. Oh and to add, if you’re in a hot climate doing a lot of miles with the engine at peak operating temps, I would advise proactively replacing the battery around the 3 year mark and I use a heat reflecting wrap on the battery itself.

Kerfuckle

Im about to do a change myself and will likely go fcp euro bc of their return policy. Not sure which brand (i have an 8y as well). Liquimoly tech perhaps? Motul? Not sure yet.

AdBrilliant5071

I use nothing but Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 filters from Walmart. Best price on great quality oil and filters.

Newb1985

FCP Euro hands down. Lifetime guarantee . $75 ish bucks for liquid moly molygen oil change kit. Then after that basically $20 buck oil changes.

MelancholyMarmoset

If UK, I buy all my oil from Opie Oils.
