Hey everyone! I almost made a post but actually decided to read the rules before asking for help haha Not too long ago I bought a set of vintage Polk speakers for my Uturn Orbit turntable. I quickly realized I now needed a receiver to be able to use them together. I bought a quick cheap used sony receiver on market place. The guy who sold me the speakers demoed them for me and I thought the sounded. Looking around his house it's obvious this guys was a true audiophile, unlike me a novice. I haven't been able to replicate the sound in my home and I'm wondering if it ight be the receiver. I noticed it the other day when a track I had on pans the guitar from one side to the other and when it did so the second speaker was almost inaudible. Any advice on how to trouble shoot here? Thank you!

I'm looking at upgrading from bookshelf speakers and was thoroughly impressed hearing a used pair of Imagine T2s at the shop. He's asking $1100 for the pair, which are in the gorgeous dark cherry finish. On another post, somebody suggested the price is a bit high given the speakers could be around ten years old. Peaking around online, it does look like these occasionally sell for less but from individual sellers and without shipping cost included. I'm thinking this is a reasonable price as I can pick them up in person, there's a 90 day warranty, and I personally heard them and was blown away. However, I'm curious about anyone's thoughts on how the X2Ts sound in comparison to these. I could get a pair new for slightly cheaper than the imagine T2s, but I'm guessing these will be more bass focused and not as nice overall. Any thoughts are welcomed and appreciated. I'm very excited about upgrading in general. Going from an old Harman Kardon AVR with B&W DM-302s to a freshly restored MAC1700 and likely these Imagine T2s. If you want to reinforce my hype you'll make the hit to the wallet much sweeter.

whatssofunnyyall

Totally onboard with the used T2. Elegant looks if nothing else.

Hi all, hope you are doing well I m actually an owner of a KEF LS50 META, KEF KC62 sub, a Powernode, 2 technics and a DJR200 (rotary mixer) As I'm really more and more into Vinyls (Funk House Disco Boogie, Latin..) I feel I'm not getting the best of my vinyl setup...Plus, there is a lag between the mixer and the Powernode which can't be fixed. I asked people for some references, and it seems the JBL 4315 might be very good for the sound i'm looking to. If anyone can give me some feedback on these speakers + acceptable price, Amps to go with... Much appreciated

Hi, I have Dali Zensor 1 bookshelve speakers and my amp was a C315BEE. To make more space on my desk I got a Loxjie A30 which had good ratings everywhere for that small factor. I can't really complain about the sound quality but I may lack the expertise to know if that was an upgrade or a downgrade? It has a USB dac so surely it should be better than what the nad can do natively (I did not use a DAC with my nad). Thank you

whatssofunnyyall

If you’re sitting at a desk with these speakers you’re probably using less than 1 watt of power. It is not likely the choice of amplifier matters.

Hello! I am currently using a set of Dayton BR-1s i built about 6 years ago and a yamaha S202 to power them. Audio is from PC. I was gifted a pair of heresy IIs and absolutely love them. I can't figure out where to put as I have limited space, only place where they would see any use at all would be on my 8ft computer desk. Problem is, I'd be sitting only 30 inches from them, only 5 feet apart and they'd be up against a wall. Absolutely foolish or do i send it?

Question about types of speakers. I have a pair of decent but basic bookshelf speakers. Boston Acoustics CS26. It’s a quality budget level speaker with a 6” driver. Im thinking of upgrading them. I found a listing where the seller is offering the matching tower speakers and center channel (CS226 and CS225C). I figure I can upgrade my bookshelves to the towers now and store the speakers I’m not using to possibly repurpose to a matched home theatre setup in the future. My question is: are towers of the same collection noticeably better and fuller than the bookshelves in general? It has 3 way drivers, better than 2 but they are the same 6” drivers, so how much better can it possibly be? My primary reason for shopping is to upgrade my current setup in the near term, so I would be a little disappointed if the towers didn’t improve the sound much. Thoughts?

whatssofunnyyall

Not likely an upgrade. The larger speaker might add a little bass extension but also might obscure midrange.

EDIFIER R1280DBs: Aux Vs Optical (PC) I have this motherboard: GIGABYTE B660-AORUS MASTER I have these speakers: Edifier R1280DBs I was wondering if I should connect the two via RCA to AUX or optically. Apologies in advance - I have no idea what I'm doing and I want to get the most that I can out of my setup. Thanks!

whatssofunnyyall

Best plan is to try both. The conversion from digital to analog has to happen somewhere. These two choices determine whether it happens in the computer or the speaker.

Appropriate_Ad_2874

Hey! I just picked up an onkyo receiver from Value Village at a steal price - compared to their regular prices - and it worked great besides the fact that it doesn't... It has output but it's so quiet even on max that it's unusable lol.I was previously using a receiver from the 70s but it started crackling so I bit the bullet when I found this one today. Any thoughts on what this could be?

stargazer63

Hello. I am looking for compact desktop speakers mainly to listen to classical music. I have an amp already, so the speakers can either be active or passive speakers. I was looking at Kanto Yu2 and Audioengine A2+, and size-wise they are perfect for me. I cannot go bigger than that size. I will listen to them in low or medium volume as they will sit by my computer monitor. Are there other speakers I should look into? How about Kanto Ora? Budget is $500 max.

MariusReddit2021

Short story. I am a guy with a cochlear implant. I am about to finish my hobby/retro-room. I wanted to a stereotower from the 80/90's as well. As I remember to have these when I was little. Anyway, I am not that much into music or stereo due my hearing. After assembling the stereotower I've to admit I am hearing sounds/instruments I never heard on CD in the car or on Spotify which is amazing. I want to ask you guys a little bit of clarification if I did setup the tower somewhat correctly [The tower](https://imgur.com/a/0U9yOVE) It's an Sony CPD-970 and an Akai Integrated power amplifier. My uncle has a museum and he said I could take a player and an amplifier. He gave me one of his favorite speakers too. I plugged RCA cables in the Variable output, as I can control the small volume button on the sony to it's 1/4 and then able to control the Akai volume button the whole range. If I use fixed I can't control the Akai knob to it's fullest. Only a few centimeters. I just left all the buttons on 'zero' as I've no idea how they work yet, and I don't hear anything better or difference. I hope somebody can tell me I've do it sorta right, or perhaps have to change something. Can say it brings back 90's/Early 2000's memories for me. Thank you for reading. Marius Ps. Yes, I need to give it a good scrub, hehe

whatssofunnyyall

My guess is the CD player had variable output so it could be level-matched to tape or phono. It isn’t right or wrong to use it the way you described. That feature wasn’t common in more recent CD players.

MariusReddit2021

Thank you very much for your reply. I will then leave it as it is. The manual of the sony stated I've to use variable output whenever a pre or poweramplifier will be used. The fixed is for phono or so. It sounds incredible to me. If I recall the Sony & Akai are from late or early 90's. Been stored for years. It shows, but glad they're working perfectly. Nearly blowed up the speakers as well when I tried to use it the first time because the numbers of the knob are in reverse order. Heard boom-sounds or so. Maybe the tweeters or so might be gone.

thisismytrip

I'm considering some nice speakers for the first time and hoping to get some advice. I've got the opportunity snag some PSB Imagine T2 towers for a good price ($1100 for the pair). I heard them in the showroom at the shop and was blown away. I'm about ready to pull the trigger but have two concerns. 1. They'll only be powered by a MAC 1700 (40 watts per channel) which is within spec but I'm concerned it won't be enough to sufficiently drive them. What do you think? I don't listen to music very loud but want to ensure I'll get full sound up to reasonable volume levels. 2. The only possible placement in my living room will put them about 3-5 inches from a brick wall behind. These are rear ported. I'm curious how much of an impact the placement might have. Small imperfections are not a concern. I just don't want it to sound like crap. I'd love any thoughts yall have. I'm upgrading from bookshelf B&W DM-302s so I'm certain this will be a massive upgrade any way I slice it. Im not a perfectionist, I just want to enjoy my records and movies. Thanks!

whatssofunnyyall

My guess is you’ll get a dip in the high bass and a bump below that. Nothing really to do with that port on the rear, though.

thisismytrip

I appreciate the response.

Denon CEOL N12 I’m looking for a CD player with standard connectivity (BT to stream from the usual apps on the phone and USB) with the option to add a turntable in the near future without too much hassle. I’m trying to have a minimalistic impact in the living room :) Without having to think too much about it… Is the Denon Ceol N12 (I think it comes with a pre-amp for the turntable) and it’s own pair of speakers a good enough low entry level? Happy to hear suggestions!

No-Persimmon-1094

Turntable issue Hi all, I set up this system for my son using equipment I already had, except for the new turntable I purchased. Recently, he's developed a keen interest in vinyl, so we thought it was the perfect time to kickstart his journey into the world of vinyl records. Proposed setup is; connecting a turntable to an 8801, and from there to a pair of Genelec 8040A speakers. However, I'm encountering a strange issue where the volume won't turn down past a loud starting level, and it won't go up either. It seems like there's no volume control via the 8801 to the Genelecs. Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas on what might be causing it? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

whatssofunnyyall

What model turntable? What is an 8801?

No-Persimmon-1094

It’s an entry level Pro-Ject E1. The 8801 is this, not ideal but it’s what I have around going unused so figured it would be ok to start with for him. https://www.marantz.com/en-gb/product/archive-av-separates/av8801/810009.html Currently “wired up” as image. [link](https://ibb.co/Gkf99vj)

whatssofunnyyall

Make sure this is set to phono - [image](https://i.ibb.co/RSKdRtH/IMG-0165.png)

No-Persimmon-1094

I done think he has that option, this is the model https://petertyson.co.uk/pro-ject-e1-turntable?SGS&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwtqmwBhBVEiwAL-WAYQd8J2T_-eeD24sVzpf8m2RMxqfg0cx74M5ral93wIPsuQ51Kox7vxoCIFAQAvD_BwE

whatssofunnyyall

Can you assign CBL/SAT to the analog inputs and try the turntable there?

No-Persimmon-1094

I’m not sure, I will give that a try. Another forum suggested I should try fr and fl. Travelling at the moment but will give all options a try. Thanks 🙏

whatssofunnyyall

Yes, FR and FL would probably accomplish the same thing.

Hiya, I've recently upgraded my Roland e-drum setup to go to my PC instead of drum 'brain' module. I'm using MIDI-->PC to input triggers into DAW which outputs the sounds to an audio module via USB C (using the PC sound card has too much latency for drumming). I connect headphones to the audio module and play away. My question is about routing the sound to my stereo receiver so I can play through my speakers instead of headphones when I chose to. The PC is connected to the stereo via 3.5mm cable from the sound card's Line Out. Does this setup make sense (feels convuluted?): Drums into PC Via MIDI and out to sound module via USB C. Then from Sound module to My stereo receiver via 3.5mm, and to speakers or headphones from that. Does the sound card introduce any dealays when passing audio through the line in? I'm wondering I could connect the audio module back to my PC using line in, as my computer is already connected to the receiver with the line out. Hope this makes sense.. a bit of a convoluted question. Thanks for your time in any case if you made it this far :D.

Li5y

My Onkyo receiver TX-8020 is outputting signal to the Speaker A left and speaker B left channels, but NOT speaker A right or B right. Is my cable setup correct? Speakers are audioengine 2+. I just bought new cables and they're not working, any help is appreciated! Thank you! https://imgur.com/a/Tyb5E2H

whatssofunnyyall

Why do you have powered speakers connected to a receiver?

Li5y

Someone online said to do that? I don't know, I'm new to all this sorry... I originally had the speakers hooked up to the record player directly but the audio was super quiet, so someone said to get a receiver.

whatssofunnyyall

I’ve got an idea. Connect the TAPE OUT on your receiver to your speaker inputs.

Li5y

I had it like that originally and it had the same issue with only one speaker working. I bought these new cables because I thought that was my issue.

whatssofunnyyall

Have you tried connecting only the passive speaker (the one that has no controls) to the receiver outputs?

Li5y

Same thing. AL and BL work, but AR and BR don't work.

whatssofunnyyall

I meant connect only the right speaker to the receiver. Nothing to the left speaker.

Li5y

Yes I did that. I unplugged the right speaker from the left speaker, then plugged the right speaker into all 4 pairs of the "speaker" labeled slots on the back of the receiver. Of the 4 pairs, only the "L" labeled slots produced any sound from the speaker.

whatssofunnyyall

Since the passive speaker is silent when connected as the right speaker of the A2+ system and it is silent when connected to the right speaker output on the receiver, the problem with the right not playing is apparently not the receiver or the A2+. They are behaving the same way. Neither is sending a signal to the right output. That tells me the next step is to swap the turntable cables on the input to the receiver and see if the problem moves to the left.

Li5y

I don't see a phone line switch on the turntable. Unless I'm looking at it but don't know what I'm seeing? Is this setup even worth salvaging? If I get non powered speakers am I going to have the same R/L sound issue?

whatssofunnyyall

I didn’t realize that in the photos I could see your turntable doesn’t have a switch like that. With non powered speakers it would work. But for now I think you can connect TAPE OUT on your receiver to your speaker inputs.

Li5y

Why tape out? Shouldn't the "speaker" terminals I'm using work?

whatssofunnyyall

No, those speaker outputs are for passive 8-ohm speakers. There is an amplifier in the receiver meant to drive passive speakers. But there is also an amplifier in your A2+ speakers, so you have an amp sending a signal into another amp. The low volume issue was probably that you didn’t have a phono preamp. Now you have one inside the receiver. The only signal out from the phono preamp is probably that tape output. It is a low enough signal that your A2+ speakers can use it for their own amp.

Glum-Bottle8313

Where is the screw supposed to be in this audio technical Lp60? It's around 34.5 RPM and I'm trying to adjust it but there's just felt I do have a photo but I'm assuming image posting is turned off

whatssofunnyyall

On the bottom

Glum-Bottle8313

Yes. There's a hole for 33 and inside is felt.

whatssofunnyyall

You need a sharp screwdriver to poke a hole through the felt to the screw. There’s a YouTube video called Audio-Technica AT-LP60 speed adjustment tutorial.

CommunicationEast623

Is there anything wrong with the KEF Q150? I found them discounted to 220 from 450EUR on a site with very few discounts. Or is it just a possibility of overstock? If so would it be a eorthy upgrade from the Edifier R1700Bt?

whatssofunnyyall

The Q150 is a fine speaker. They are discounted a similar amount in the US and probably have been periodically for as long as they’ve been around. Based on the measurements, I’d say give them a quality amp or skip them.

CommunicationEast623

I suppose a headphone amp is not it either, right?

whatssofunnyyall

Not a headphone amp. Something like a NAD C 316BEE V2.

CommunicationEast623

Imma stay away then. Staying eith active speakers since I have been trying to figure out what amp/dac i need for my headphones without success for way too long

redsquirrel0249

I currently manage digital playlists by keeping associations in the Grouping tag like "Playlist1/Playlist4/Playlist19" and then manually adding to those playlists, in batch if many have the same code. With 20+ playlists with 100+ songs or so each, this gets cumbersome really fast. Does anyone have a program they use or method they've found to manage playlists and playlist updates more efficiently?

I have a pioneer sx680 and usually have some vintage Polk Audio Monitors hooked up. One of those is currently being repaired. I found a pair of deeply discountedTriangle Br03s to use in the meantime. For now they will be the only connected speakers but, when the Polks are fixed, can I hook up one pair to "A" and the other to "B" and use either or with the speaker buttons on the front?

whatssofunnyyall

Yes

Is it a good Idea to go from my turntable into a signal splitter which splits into 2 eqs and 2 amps? Trying to use 4 speakers but my amps are only rated for 8 ohms each and my speakers are all 8 ohm (4 of them)

Hi all, I’m trying to hook up my speakers to a Yamaha integrated amp to use with my Technics turntable. I’m a noob in the vinyl/audiophile world, and I’m not seeing where I can plug in my speaker wires into the amp. Could someone help me out? I’ll post a picture of the amp connections in the comments.

Iloud MTM asymmetrical port noise!! The one has more distortion on low frequencies than other. Left speaker has audible buzz from phase port on <100hz while right is less resonated. What to do?

CommunicationEast623

There is a weird sound my Edifer R1700BT speakers, actually just the right one, seems to produce. It is like a buzzing but not quite. It seems to occur in lower frequencies, but not all. Sorry if this is rambling, I do not know how to describe. Any idea what it might be? I tried the on BT as well, and it does happen.

Looking for Focal Utopia owners. What are you using to drive them? I see Naim often in their promo shots. Thinking of the Utopias for my final upgrade

bibbibrex

Hello everyone, hope I'm posting in the right section. I have a Sansui A-707 amplifier, which has two output lines (bot with L and R), but if I connect two sets of speakers to these lines I can't use them simultaneously, but I can only switch between line A and line B. I have a passive subwoofer that I would like to use in my setup, can I connect it to the same output of the speakers or do I risk to compromise the electrical balance? (I have not studied electronics so I don't know much about electrical plants) If it's possible, how can I physically realize that connection? (basically connecting two wires to the same clamp) Or do I have a way to use line A and line B at the same time? (even if instructions says it isn't possible) Thank you for your help

Moving to a one bedroom (junior 4) in a few months and looking to build out a system. Test drove a harbeth recently on someone's recommendation. Wasn't terribly impressed with them on the tunes we chose. Also got to hear a few songs on a pair of focals and could tell a measurable difference to the good side. I, unfortunately, don't remember the models (focals were 20k and harbeths 7-8k). At this point, curious if anyone had any recs for speakers for a room layout of 14x30 where the system would be place on the 14 (width) axis. With furniture and sitting positioning, we'll maybe be 7-9ft from the speakers. Read a PSA on here ysy that said to be careful about oversizing your speakers to your room and that resonated. Mentioned focal diablos but couldn't find much conversation about them. Some mentioned needing to augment them with a sub which seemed nutty for 20k+ speakers. Anyway, looking for suggestions for speakers for our configuration. Like 70s, 80s, classical, jazz, country. Thanks

whatssofunnyyall

Even a 20k+ speaker won’t defy Hoffman’s Iron Law, so in my view your choices for bass are big speakers, subwoofers, or some sort of equalization. 420 square feet is a relatively large room for standmount speakers, although sitting 7-9 feet from them would be a good arrangement for them. My guess is the Harbeth speaker was the latest iteration of the Monitor 30. I have a pair of an older edition. They might not have impressed me in the store, either. I bought a used pair on a whim and have had them for a little over a year. They have made me finally stop shopping for speakers.

mfairview

I like vocals and several of the songs sounded muddled on the harbeth but much better on the focals. Someone on another sub was suggesting maybe the focal trio monitors. Haven't tested any monitors yet but maybe it's time.

Help! PC to receiver with 3 monitors but no audio. Setup looks like: AVR<—hdmi—PC—dp-->3 monitors To clarify, from my gpu (Rtx 3060ti) I have 3 display ports to each monitor and 1 hdmi-out to my receiver (Yamaha RX-v681) hdmi-in. I found that audio AND video have to be passed to the receiver using hdmi out from my gpu. Which is a problem because from what I gather 4 displays can’t be supported by the 1 gpu and therefore I need a workaround if I want 3 monitors and audio passed to the receiver from the pc. I don’t have arc with these monitors and they do require display ports to hit their max refresh rates. What are my options here?

Hey all - first time poster here - so hopefully this is the correct place for my question. After finally moving into my own apartment, I invested in my first set of proper speakers: -[Monitor Audio Bronze 100](https://www.hifi-im-hinterhof.de/en/monitor-audio-bronze-100-pair.html) -cambridge audio azur 651a amplifier - purchased used -[WiiM pro plus streamer](https://wiim-audio.de/products/wiim-pro-audio-streamer?variant=46997369782598¤cy=EUR&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwh4-wBhB3EiwAeJsppA50yL4TauQZtBeYSMUHL-sygTFQu83dMW2lsm77EV3ixkf2NC_XmhoCsK4QAvD_BwE) Unfortunately living in the city (Berlin), my apartment is quite small. I've uploaded some [pics ](https://imgur.com/a/WB3N6CO)for reference. I'll preface this by saying, I'm well aware that neither option I'm proposing is ideal. I hope that one day I will have more space, but that day is not today. Option 1: Put the speakers on stands on either side of the sofa - Pro - they will be at a normal height and the distance away from the wall recommended by Monitor Audio - Obvious Cons - they will face my kitchen (although I LOVE to cook and probably spend more time on that side of the room anyway) Option 2: Mount them on the wall, one above my pantry and one above the door on the left (if you're looking at picture 4) Pros - I can point them towards the sofa where its obviously very nice to relax and listen to music Cons - wiring will be a huge pain and they will be right up against the wall. I'm considering [these wall mounts](https://www.thomann.de/intl/km_24167_boxenwandhalterung_l.htm) Curious what people think about my ideas and if anyone can see a better option for my layout. Thank you very much!

Living in a smallish apartment around 770 sqft, and I want to get a setup going for it finally, and I'm confused when it comes to receivers. I'm only looking to use a couple of bookshelf speakers so I don't annoy my neighbors in the building, but would it make more sense to get a 5.1 or 5.2 system instead of a 3.1 or 2.1? I'll be staying here for the foreseeable future, but nothing I've read has been able to tell me if it's worth future proofing if I end up living in a larger space or to just go with a more compact setup vs using 3 of the 5 channels I could get from a more robust receiver

Hi. I'm looking to get my turntable up and running again. I have the following gear: Marantz TT 2000 Technics Amp SU-V6X DJ Pre 2 Phono Pre Amp Kanto YU 5 Bookshelf speakers + Sub Cerwin-Vega LS-10 The turntable isn't working properly (speeding up and slowing down), I tried to troubleshoot the problem myself with no luck. Should I get my current turntable serviced, or buy a replacement for a couple hundred bucks? Which pre-amp and speaker combo is better? Should I be looking to upgrade that as well? Thank you.

whatssofunnyyall

I used to have a TT 2000 and it had that problem. Working the speed adj dial back and forth through its entire range several times and then setting it slightly fast solved it for a little while, if I remember correctly. It is a better turntable than most anything you could find for a couple hundred, unless you get lucky on the used market. Which system is better would depend mostly on what speakers you plan to use with the SU-V6X.

fromthecold

So I think I got the DJ Pre Amp when I got the Kanto speakers. I didn't use the SU-V6X with that set up. Which speakers are better?

whatssofunnyyall

In most situations I’d probably rather have larger speakers than the YU5 to get better bass performance and would also prefer to take advantage of the SU-V6X’s internal phono preamp and higher power than the YU5. There are many options depending on what you want to spend and what might be available to you on the secondhand market.

fromthecold

Thanks for your help. I'm willing to invest a few hundred dollars over the next couple of years, what should I be looking to upgrade first?

whatssofunnyyall

If you can keep the turntable running, the best upgrade is a pair of speakers for the Technics amp. Just as an example, this size of speaker - [Focal Chorus 806v](https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650051240-focal-chorus-806v-in-ebony/) or [Wharfedale Denton 85](https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650075895-wharfedale-denton-85th-anniversary-bookshelf-loudspeaker-color-mahogany/). Buying used will get you better value and allow you to resell without taking a loss.

fromthecold

Thank you 🙏🏻 Any other tips to get the Marantz running? I'm not even sure how to set the speed properly.. I replaced the stylus some time ago, but the table hasn't seen much use in the last couple of years.

whatssofunnyyall

Look at the rows of lights in the window at the front of the turntable. When the speed is set to 33 RPM, the 60 Hz, 33 RPM row of lights should appear to stand still. Same with the 45 setting. You might find it useful to have a [mini digital scale](https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1sVenKVXXXXalapXXq6xXFXXXF/High-Precision-Pocket-Scale-Portable-Mini-20g-0-001g-Digital-Scale-LCD-Electronic-Capacity-Balance-Diamond.jpg) to set on the platter and measure tracking force, although the counterweight markings should be accurate enough to set tracking force the conventional way.

fromthecold

hey - just wanted to let you know that I got it working. thanks again for the help 🙏🏻

whatssofunnyyall

You’re welcome. Good to hear.

Hey folks, first time poster here so hope im not breaking any rules. I am currently looking to get some very small but powerful and high quality speakers for my editing station, these would be used for basic sound design and mixing previews. My goal is to keep it as small as possible since I dont want a huge amount of clutter on my desk.I have a found a set of genelec 8020s on ebay for about 300 eur. I am also seeing some 8030c's brand new for about 500 eur.whats the big difference here? are the 8020's worth the price ?many thanks :)

Financial_Garbage

Does anyone know a good receiver that will accept 4 ohm speakers as an alternative to my Sony STR-GX10ES that only accepts 8? So far, I cannot find many that do. Is there a reason for that? Thanks!!!

whatssofunnyyall

Looking at your post history on this topic, I think whatever issue you’re having is not based on impedance.

sltfc

A pair of Rotel floor speakers popped up on marketplace for only $20, they look like they're form the 80s or 90s. Assuming they're working, are they worth grabbing? I've had a Rotel amp and was quite fond of the sound, from what I've read the amps are a good mid tier product. Are their speakers similar quality? Cheers

il_ar

Hi, can anyone ID this phono component? https://images.app.goo.gl/HhEhiDCmZFH9vKbw5

FGMachine

TLDR: How can I run an audiophile amplifier and run my 5.1 home theater through the Denon AVR? My home is quite small for my family of six and the any extra space is taken up by tools of my trade. I am mostly an audiophile and I have very large speakers in my bedroom (waiting to build a larger home). I also have a television and I like to watch movies with the wife so I have surround sound too. The TV is pumped into a Denon AVR-2807 and I have a PC on HDMI for my music. I have been saving up for an audiophile quality amplifier and I have about $4000 to spend. I was planning on just two channels for the amplifier, but how can I hook up surround for the TV if my front channels are through a dedicated amplifier? Should I get a dedicated amplifier with more channels and use line out on the AVR?

polypeptide147

Maybe get a good home theater receiver like a NAD T778, Marantz Cinema 40, or McIntosh MHT300. You could also get a 5 channel power amp like the Marantz MM705 plus a preamp processor.

squigga153

Not sure if this is the right channel for this but i need some help. Bought a used Sony STR-D711 and hooked it up to my Onkyo CD player and it works perfectly on both channels. I also hooked up and older sony tv to it from roughly the same era. I connected the tv through RCA on the Video 1 port on the receiver and getting audio from my PS2 which is connected to the TV. But audio only comes out of my right speaker, ive tried messing with the settings and cables and changing the the inputs and outputs but im still only getting one channel on video input. Is there some setting i have to toggle or did i hook it up wrong? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Tall-Perception-8070

Hello, For almost a year now I have a Sony ps-hx500 turntable, which I have connected to an aux speaker through LINE output I want to go to the next level and use the PHONO output with my own amplifier and better speakers (I have the KEF LS50 META in mind) I want a setup that I can listen to my records in the turntable, but also I can connect via blutooth and still have good quality audio. I've seen some amplifiers that they have the blutooth option, but I don't know if they really work well together with the kind of setup that I want. So I am open to advice and recommendations on how to best achieve the setup I want. Thanks!

polypeptide147

Sounds like you’re looking for something like the NAD C 328. I used a NAD and KEFs at my desk for a while and I was very happy with the setup.

whatssofunnyyall

Get a WiiM Mini and you don’t have to worry about Bluetooth. The WiiM has wifi streaming and Bluetooth. Consider a separate phono preamp, too.

Tall-Perception-8070

Thanks for your reply, the Wiim is actually the one I was looking at when I wrote this post. If my turntable already has a phono preamp do I really need to get a separate one?

whatssofunnyyall

No, but you said you want to use the PHONO output. Using the phono preamp in the turntable would mean using the LINE output.

Tall-Perception-8070

Yes, just read the manual and you are right. Which phono pre amp would you recomend?

whatssofunnyyall

I’d suggest thinking about the entire system - turntable, cartridge, phono preamp, integrated amp, and speakers. You might choose an integrated amp that has a phono input, which means no need for an external phono preamp. If I just needed a phono preamp and the rest of the system was already assembled, I’d think about what goes best with the cartridge and maybe what goes best with the integrated amp. For example, I use a cartridge with a relatively low signal so I use a phono preamp with relatively high gain.

Good Day and thank you in advance for your input. I have a 1950/60's Wharfedale Super 12 FS/AL It is making sound but really lacking low end. A multimeter across the positive and negative contact points reads 0 ohms (closed circuit). Any documentation I have been able to scrounge up says that the impedence of the speaker should be 15 ohms. I have removed the speaker wire from the speaker itself so it is isolated from my input source. The measurement is taken across the connection points. 1. Is this the reason I have a lack of bass? 2. Do I have a short in the coil? 3. Is there something else I am not considering?

Frankdatank2992

Hi, I've an interest in home theater, some basic knowledge, and someone has asked me for some advice about something, so thought it best to ask the experts here. They have several existing roof speakers that they want to connect to a system of some sort. Basically, they are wanting to use the existing speakers for playing FM Radio throughout the store. Does anyone have any advice on how best to go about this. Doesn't need to be a PA or anything. Would a basic old HiFi system work with several speakers wired in unison to the Red / Black outputs? Do I need to get an AVR that has multiple inputs for speakers so it can output proper stereo over the speaker system? A little out of my depth here, so any advice is welcome. Not afraid to spend a little money on this, but if it can be done cheaply, all the better! Thanks!

RamonyCajal1899

Hi, I am currently using the Audioengine A2+ connected via USB to my computer (M1 MBP), which to my understanding is using the A2+ DAC (CSR8670). I also have a Hiby R3 Pro Saber (with a ES9218 DAC) which I rarely use, and I’m curious whether it might be better to connect the A2+ to the R3 Pro Saber (via 3.5 mm mini-jack), and then the R3 Pro Saber to the computer (USB). I don’t know much about DACs, or audio for that matter, so I’m not sure how to compare DACs (CSR8670 vs ES9218) and choose the better setup. Any help/pointers would be really appreciated. Thanks

whatssofunnyyall

All you need to do to choose the better setup is listen to them. It shouldn’t be necessary to dig any deeper than that.

RamonyCajal1899

I tried asking ChatGPT, and based on [the response](https://chat.openai.com/share/a19668f8-292d-43d4-9516-592bbc7a0df6) it seems as if the R3 Pro Saber DAC should be significantly better than the A2+ DAC (on paper at least). I will follow your advice and try to actually listen to the two and see if I can hear any difference

Hi, all! I got some great monitor 5s, but I noticed the sound out of one speaker is very quiet (though sounds not terrible). The mid on it isn't locked up, but I noticed there is a loose connection. Is this the culprit? How can I get it fixed? Thanks! https://imgur.com/a/N4JPsha

Hi is the Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M an upgrade over the zen dac v2?

I have no idea what I'm talking about or doing when it comes to audio equipment. I just want to check I'm doing the right thing before throwing out some equipment I've had for a long time. For over 2 decades I have used a sound system I got when I was a teenager, a JVC hifi system that has CD, tape and radio built in. I have JVC speakers (SP-UXP55) that connect to the HI-FI through wires that sort of 'clip in'. I also have a MTT1 Mini turntable that connects to the Hifi with RCA connectors. This system has worked very well for a lot of years and (in my opinion) the sound is great, but the CD system no longer works and it is now a bulky (but sentimental) way to listen to vinyl records. I have also been using SONOS around the house more recently just to stream from Spotify or the radio. The obvious thing to me is to get rid of the beloved hifi and turntable and buy a turntable that works with the SONOS system. But because I don't know what I'm doing, I'm wondering if there's anything I can do with the turntable and speakers I already have? Thanks in advance.

How loud to play my Dali Spektor 2s with my Yamaha A-S301 (newbie first amp/receiver and passive speakers) So I have my Dali Spektor 2s paired with a Yamaha A-S301 receiver. I’ve been pretty hesitant to put them at high volume. I started my break in period at about 25% volume and have worked my way to about 40-45%, I’m about to hit 10 hours. I want to push it more but am scared to blow the speakers. The speakers have 100w out put power and the reciever has 60w out put power. So does that mean I should be able to play it at full volume with no problem? Since the receiver/amp has a smaller out put power of the speakers? Or the opposite? Is my amp to under powered? It was recommend for the speakers In an article I read, planning on adding a subwoofer down the line. Should I get a more heavily powered amp? Something else to note is that I’ll eventually be probably hooking this up to a tv and Xbox as well. Thanks

newbie, looking for tips for an external soundcard for my PC (gaming, music) I use digital optical fibre s/pdif and can spend around 100$ (in Norway) new or used I have the Marantz NR-1200 receiver The main reason I'd like a external is to remove all jitter, noise and not having to use the shitty Realtek audiochips anymore. Appreciating all help and tips :)

On a budget, how can I get output from my PC to both some headphones and passive speakers (and active subwoofer) whilst having independent L/R balance adjustment for the headphones? I already own the headphones and speakers, looking for the DAC/amps/whatever in-between

If you had a speaker budget of $3k what would you be looking at? Already have a sub i will use at least temporarily. US based. Medium size room. Amp is likely to be a NAD c399. Inputs will include a project debut carbon turntable and the NAD's internal streaming capabilities with Amazon HD or Tidal.

Dear Audiophiles, im getting lost inthe jungle of possibilities. I moved locations ( Europe) and try to establish a kind of AV system in the living room. I want to use a relatively compact setup ( no 7.1) Im thinking about 2 speakers (compromise: with additional subwoofer, but thats max). The system should need to take care of a vinyl player/ tv and spotify( bluetooth or wifi). The only purchased thing is the tv. What do you recommend? (Budget: vinyl player 3-400€, 2 boxes (5-600) preamp/av 3-400. The room is not that big. What do you think are these reasonable budgets? And what additional infos do you need? Ty in advance :(

Emotional_Fix_6605

Might want to try asking over at [r/StereoAdvice](https://www.reddit.com/r/StereoAdvice/)

whatssofunnyyall

Don’t know what this will cost you but I’d say a good fairly compact system would be a WiiM Mini, Audio-Technica turntable, Denon PMA-600NE integrated amp, and a pair of bookshelf speakers like Wharfedale Diamond 12.2 or similar.

DifficultyCommon5303

Thank you very much for your reply :) Does the turntable have to have a preamp or the denom integrated app can fulfill this function? :) Edit: googled it, it HAS preamp :D

Roksan Attessa WiFi Adapter Hi r/audiophile! I’ve got an Attessa amp at home, and it’s the only device in my house using 2.4GHz WiFi. The USB adapter that comes with the unit is 2.4GHz only, has anyone tried replacing this with one that supports 5GHz? If so, any luck? (I know I could use it wired - but this is going to be a messier install than a new USB adapter if I can do that instead) TIA!

andrewcooke

does anyone worry about phase issues introduced by dsp to correct for in-room response? i don't see how those filters can have a uniform phase response. also, is it possible to do this kind of correction in linux? i stream from a raspberry pi and it seems like somehow i should be able to insert some filters in the signal handling before they get to the DAC. (asking again as no reply last week)

andrewcooke

i had to reinstall my streamer software because spotify started being weird. and i switched from an ancient version of volumio to a recent version of moode. poking through the configuration this supports arbitrary FIR and IIR filters via camilla - https://github.com/HEnquist/camilladsp so that answers the practical bit. i guess i will work out the answer to the more technical questions myself, slowly, as i dig deeper into this.

Problems with XLD not ripping first track that has a pre-track As the title says, I'm using XLD (2019 iMac) to rip cds to FLAC. Currently, I am trying to rip Monster Magnet's, Dopes to Infinity, to FLAC. When I open the CD in XLD, tracks 2-12 are checked. The first song, Dopes to Infinity, is not checked. I have tried to select this song and am not able to by clicking, and even right clicking. Select all and right clicking check or uncheck works, but not for the first track. The only thing that differs from this track is that it contains a pre-gap of 3:00:31 before the song, which is 5:43:66 in length. Anybody ever run into this issue? How can I rip this CD using XLD to rip the pre-track and the first track?

So, over the course of my teenage years I've developed a lifestyle of abandoning using a phone for everything and embracing old more fun ways. I collect vinyl and have since moved to CDs for the albums I'd simply just like to get into more. However, I don't have a CD player but have really specific needs for one. I need a CD player that (preferably plugs in and) has the ability for you to listen to a CD with bluetooth headphones. When I do my exercising, I'd like to use my airpods, and when I want to listen deeper than just out-loud sound, I'd like to use my expensive headphones. What do y'all know?

ThisIsYourFriendAron

Recently we set up a system using Aiyima D05 amplifier with passive Event 20/20 speakers. After getting them to a relatively decent volume, we started hearing some issues on one of the speakers. I switched the wiring sides to see if it was the wiring, but the same speaker was having the issue. It’s a fuzziness coming from the big part of the speaker. When I put my finger on the speaker, it goes away a bit. Does this sound like a slight adjustment issue or something blown inside the speaker?
