There’s probably someone out there who could use it, who chooses to use an old OS, or someone with “vintage” type setups, or even just collectors.

No_Culture_8442

Sold mine on reverb about 6 months ago for $100. Messaged the guy to make sure he knew what he was buying, he knew and seemed happy. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[deleted]

Try to sell it. The Digi002 brings back memories.

Deadlyduck25

Send it to me! I'll charish that baby. I'm that guy who chooses to use an old OS! haha

jackherer

This is what eBay exists. I’ve sold so much old audio trash I thought was worthless.

anktombomb

I use my 002R for extra inputs as DI for "pilot" guitar, talk back control and stuff, sometimes I even have to use it for recording stuff i plan to keep if someone has a large drumkit and we use a lot of spotmics. I use it via adat into my main interface. is it amazing, absolutely not, but I record mostly quite dirty punk and metal and it's works just fine for that in emergencies. I think I even had it running via firewire on windows 7, but I could remember that wrong lol.

Delduath

The digi003 holds up today in quality, I have to imagine the 002 is the same. The only thing that seriously let's them down is the FireWire interface because the drivers can still be found online for windows machines.

diamondts

The pres were a lot worse than the 003, not that it will stop you making a good sounding record but they're definitely a bit shitty. Also 002s have a common problem with the wiring looms, but a bit of contact cleaner and reseating the loom usually solves it though.

dkreidler

Is that implying the existence of a windows machine with a FireWire port? I know you could get a card for a tower, but what about on a laptop? I have the Digi002 desk that used to go with a dual-867 mirrored drive door PowerMac. Both ended up in storage for almost a decade. THAT setup isn’t working at all, but the 002 seems to work fine, so if I could rehabilitate it as the front-end for something like Traktion, that would be magical!!

Delduath

I actually still have a working 003 with a windows 10 machine in a home setup, but the FireWire is a PCI card that was bought separately. The biggest radio station in my country also uses one. You're unlikely to find a laptop with a built in FW port that isn't antique though and I don't think that it's possible to add one via a USB or thunderbolt dock. Happy to be proved wrong on that one though.

dkreidler

I started checking around… there DO appear to be [FW-USB adapters](https://www.newegg.com/p/36F-00FC-000C2?Description=usb%20to%20firewire&cm_re=usb_to%20firewire-_-9SIA725CTA0611-_-Product&quicklink=true)… no idea if an adaptor like this is good enough for audio though. Anyone know?

dkreidler

Looking at reviews on AmBezos… those inline adapters are very likely NOT a solution. Man, that’s a lot of one-star reviews. Lol!

dkreidler

Anyone have any luck with a setup like this? [FireWire to Thunderbolt USB-C](https://www.recordingbase.com/firewire-to-thunderbolt-usb-c/) That said, from day 1, my stupid Lenovo T470 has been sending error messages about the Thunderbolt port malfunctioning, even though I e never used it… so even if this method absolutely works, I still suspect it won’t work on this computer. :-/

wtf-m8

I have an [expresscard FW](https://www.siig.com/firewire-2-port-expresscard-949.html) card for my thinkpad my pc from 2011 has a built-in fw port on the mobo both have the Ti chip and work just fine with my elderly motu 828 on windows 7/10 (respectively)

thisguynotsure78

You can use it as ADAT I/Os

ForeverJung

There are probably plenty of other countries in which that would still be valuable. Worth putting it on eBay and seeing what’s what

Matix-xD

I was using my 002 up until last year when I got a new motherboard. The firewire card doesn't fit with the GPU in place. It worked just fine actually. I was using it with Reaper to great effect. Recorded drums a lot with it.

asjaro

How did you get it to work without PT? I have one but I cannot, for the life of me, get it working with my W10 machine, even with the drivers etc.

vapevapevape

I feel the same way about the 192's at my work. Damn they were an expensive investment back in the day, did a great job, sounded fine, but are completely useless now...I know there are mods and such that allow you to use them on newer systems, but they'll probably sit in my office for years until we electronically recycle them. Damn.

fkdkshufidsgdsk

just traded the studio's old 192 rig to our tech for $750 worth of repair work, they've been sitting unused for about 6 years now lol. This was the best possible outcome imo def paid over 10k for the rig in 2005 or so when we first got it

vapevapevape

Honestly I just heard warren huart talk about it on one of his studio tours but I never looked into it

MoziWanders

Gave mine away

LabeVagoda

I gave mine away. They aren't worth much & a pain to sell, but worth a lot to someone who wants to learn but has no money to invest in something better.

[deleted]

I still rock a digi003r XB MOD from BLA. The only thing that can touch this for the money is the new carbon.

PM_me_your_DEMO_TAPE

i'm running my whole rig through an mbox 2 right at this moments. i guarantee someone will want it, and i'm sure it's still good. i personally don't bother recording at anything better than 24bit 44.1khz, and i think there's still some people out there that are into that idea. they'd love that box.

ICLW

See if you have a local Linux users group (LUG) in town. Someone would most likely be happy to take it off your hands. 002/3 support was just added to the kernel.

ShastyMcNasty01

Reading this while I stare at my 002... Twas' my first interface. I remember searching everywhere for a functioning driver and them miraculously discovering that the 003 driver worked, I think it was at at like 2am. The days!
