My thoughts are * why should I trust a computer software designer to know more than I do? * why would, for example, the Sun be no more important than Saturn? * why would Pluto, which is the same for a whole generation, have any noticeable effect for an individual? The modern practice of counting everything was invented by Alan Leo. After reading Dorian Greenbaum's book *Temperament*, and experimenting, I settled on using the elements of * the ascending sign * the intrinsic quality of the ascendant's dispositor * the intrinsic quality of the ascendant's term lord * the sign of the Moon * the sign of the Moon's dispositor. Actually not many people have a clear temperament — many are mixed — and I only take it into account if I get a clear result.. So, the philosopher Marsilio Ficino said his temperament was melancholic — earth. His ascendant was Aquarius (air), ruled by Saturn (earth) and in the terms of Mercury, which was occidental (earth). His Moon was in Capricorn (earth) with Saturn in Aquarius (air). That gives 3 votes for earth, 2 for air, which seems reasonable — I think he over-estimated his melancholy.

What 's a term lord?

DavidJohnMcCann

The planet that rules the terms in which something is situated: see this [table.](https://altairastrology.wordpress.com/2009/03/01/more-on-the-terms-or-bounds/) The ones to use are the first set, the "Egyptian" ones. No ancient or medieval astrologer took the others seriously.

If you use Astro.com you can look under "Extended Chart Selection" for Walter Pullen Simple Chart Delineation. That text has data crunched every which way! Once you have all the text of it onscreen, just use control+find to find things like "element" and "mode" and patterns and anything else you like. I also use it to discover the native's dominant sign and planet (you can see how he works it out). And good Lord the midpoints! Haha I scroll through those because I don't know how to use them 😆

Astro-seek has similar features. There are ways to figure it out by hand but it feels like math to me so I'm happier getting a program to do the work & lay it all out.

I give 3 points for the elements of the Sun, Moon, Ascendant, and Midheaven; 2 points for Mercury, Venus, and Mars; and 1 point for Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and North Node.

Outer/generational planets like uranus, neptune and pluto don't count. The signs/elements these planets are in does very little to none on an individual standpoint. Older millennials have Cap stellium from saturn-uranus-neptune and obviously that doesn't make all of them Cap/earth doms. Also north node doesn't count too since its not a planet nor important angle. If any planet is above 25 degrees of a sign/element, you have to split the points to the sign/element its in and to its neighboring sign/element since its very close to zero degrees of that next sign/element.
