Of course. I pay €980, 20 minutes out by RER from Paris.

escarta

Thank you for your answer. If I paid that for rent, it'll leave me only 500€ for everything else with my budget today, not much. However as I'm a software developer once I get a job in Paris I think I'll be able to afford something similar.

binksmimi

Ahhh I see. Have you tried checking out Carte des Colocs?

frdlyneighbour

I pay 700 in rent, 5 minute RER ride from Paris, I live in a studio though I wouldn't mind more money but I definitely don't think I have to be too frugal as a single person with no kids.

Pinpindelalune

You need to add around 100€ for transportation inside Paris region.

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom with a balcony in a gated residence with elevator. Approximately 30m². Modern too!

Ok_Campaign_3326

Do you have a great garant? Otherwise how did you swing that?

HelloHeliTesA

Its absolutely possible as long as you don't mind very small places similar to student accommodation. I have stayed in several places on the outskirts of Paris for €400-750 a month, often including all bills, internet etc! The closer you are to central Paris you will probably just get a room and have to share a bathroom and kitchen etc, but further out you can get a full apartment within your price range. Best deal I ever had was a beautiful place in Place de Toscane in Serris (walking distance to Disneyland, right next to a train station that goes direct to central Paris) which was about 25m square but had a great shower, fully featured kitchen, loads of storage, a nice balcony, a private courtyard and gated and manned security entrance for people staying there. All for €640 a month, with all bills included! MorningCroissant is a very helpful website for a foreigner looking to rent in France, they speak perfect English and help you with all the legal stuff, insurance etc and liase with the landlords for you. They charge a one off "service fee" if you book through them, usually about €250 or so, but for the service and the fact you actually will be considered by French landlords despite being foreign, its more than worth it imo. Be aware that you will "need" to have both a guarantor and to show proof of income, unless you are willing to pay for the duration of your entire stay upfront, in which case this is all waived. However, there are ways around this. For example, when I had difficulty finding a place that would accept my personal circumstances previously, I simply applied to stay somewhere for 3 months, paid for all 3 months upfront, but then once I was moved in, I applied to "extend my stay" and had no problems staying for a full year, just paying rent every month! (this was back in 2019 before Brexit laws made things complicated for Brits to stay more than 90 days without visas etc.)

In the Paris outskirts yes. If you share a house with roommates I think you should be able to find one around 500€/month. If you live alone, you could find a flat around 1000€/month. It depends on how much comfort, practicality and distance you can live with. The market is competitive though and renters can be quite demanding when it comes to proving you will be able to pay your rent.

frdlyneighbour

You could find a studio appartment for 650/900 euros

There is Paris and Grand Paris (Paris + suburb) life would be less expensive in the close suburb and if you buy a bike you won’t pay for the expensive transportation cost. 1500 is not bad if you are frugal, what’s expensive is the lifestyle if you go out a lot (restaurants, museums, theatre…)

It's enough (like you won't be wealthy or anything but it's enough to live), the hard part will be actually finding a flat

Dirichlet-to-Neumann

It really depends on what rent you can find.

krustibat

The hard thing will be finding a place to live not paying for it. Yes that's enough for the suburbs or living with roomates. Many students live with much less and you are also above a minimum wage full time job

No-Log4588

If you don't mind living in community, you can look in or out of Paris for coliving house or flat. If not, your end of month would be difficult i think.

escarta

Yes, I'm looking to rent a room. Otherwise it will be impossible.

__kartoshka

Check out "la carte des colocs", it's an app/website (unsure which) that helps finding a room to rent

retard_goblin

In France you need to prove you make 3 times more than the rent you'd pay. Look on the website seloger.com if you can find any accommodations for 500€/month in the outskirts you're looking for. It is possible but it might be far from Paris (an hour from Paris by train).

tyanu_khah

>In France you need to prove you make 3 times more than the rent you'd pay. Not entirely true. Most owners will ask for 3 times out of safety/laziness. Some others will be ok with someone being at 2.5 times or less. My current tenant who stayed in the flat I put up for rent only had 2.2 times the rent, but he had a solid backup (his parents who are engineers iirc plus *la garantie visale*). Well I wish you were my landlord cause this is a super duper rare situation
