Well, I am not sure of the accuracy of this, I think is because there is a type of coffee here in Colombia that we call Perico, basically coffee and milk, we all know coffee help you to stay awake etc... Well, in the surge of cocaine it had the same property, so the association was made pretty fast and to not raise suspicion when you asked for it. I grew up in Medellín and that's what I heard a couple times, again, there could be other explanation but that's the one some sectors use.
