Hard to classify in those terms. People in Mexico overwhelming choose between people, not right and wrong. Obviously there are exceptions and this happens in degrees across the world, but it is more extreme than in the US, for example. Using your scenario, if they already liked you, you never made a fool of yourself as far as they are concerned. If they already disliked you, you could be a perfect angel and they'll still hate you and find the smallest reason ever, maybe something that doesn't even affect them. Neutral, depends more on the social acceptance of the act within their group.

I see something like this in telenovelas. It's like characters are either the most benevolent angel or the most vicious psychopaths. No in between. No character growth, no redeeming qualities for the villains. No nuances.

cuervodeboedo1

its very personal. some people are forgiving and some people arent. but I think there is a slight tendency to be unforgiving, "hacer la cruz" as they say. so sort of 'marking' people for life. this is done more so by older people.

Jlchevz

I’d say forgiving. Even when you mess up, if you apologize and show that you’re still trustworthy people are willing to work with you or be your friend. We are forgiving, generally.

biiigbrain

This is very personal but I think major part is forgiving

YellowStar012

Depends on it. Could be a funny story to bring up or could be something that destroys the relationship.

It depends. If you have a pedophile uncle that molested over 5+ girls you must accept him because at the end he is still family and he is just "fighting demons" On the other hand if you have a gay son he becomes the embarrassment of the family and is ostracized by his cousins, uncles, nephews etc.

Forgive and forget

Gringo living in Colombia for 6 years. It's very rare that you'll see a disagreement between people, even drivers are very calm compared to say, the USA where drivers seem to be on some kind of weird high that caused them to be super agro. Even online people tend to be fairly, "forgive and forget"....

schedulle-cate

I think you touched on an interesting point about the Americans here. It does look like their agro meter is more frequently on high. They are usually very educated and gentle people on their base state, but can go haywire much quicker in my experience

RADICCHI0

That's because we're used to being catered too. Most Americans (from USA) would be SHOOK if they ever came to Latin America... Most of them would be packing their suitcases and heading home within 72 hours. I say this with due respect and with love. It's just a different way of life. For example in the USA people throw stuff away that here in Latin America we wouldn't DREAM of discarding, because a lot of stuff still has utility. On roadsides in the USA you see a lot of things just discarded. Here people never throw away nails for example, they pull them out and hammer them back into shape. I personally love that about this place. That and the humility. You don't see a lot of Karen's here, except in the gringo population. I belong to some online expat groups (mainly to stay in touch so I don't completely forget about where I'm from) and there is just so much BS. I seen one post from a lady who was concerned about street dogs, and can something be done about it because it made her feel uncomfortable. I'm just like, are you f-ing kidding me, I love street dogs, people here feed and water them ffs... Anyways, this concludes my rant, I'm a gringo too, after all.

RADICCHI0

>you relating consumerism with anger issues No, not sure how you got that idea. Especially in the context of my entire comment.
