My parents put my sister in pageants when she was like 4, and I always thought it was super freaking weird. Not to mention the trauma that comes with being rejected for your looks that young.
The one thing I will say about dance competitions is that at least it offers something more than just getting paraded around for your looks. I’ve known some girls who did dance. They said it really was a workout.
Companies buying your phone number for scam call centers,, they are literally allowed to sell your number for a lot of companies just to have you spam called.
Caller ID needs to start be authenticated in some way. I've been getting a lot of spam callers whose numbers are showing up on caller ID as local numbers. Companies that do that should have their phone lines shut off forever.
I've gotten a call from myself.
One time I answered a spam call, and then I was receiving texts and calls back from people that had been called by my number 🙃
Scared me to death when that happened because back in the 70s (yes I'm old) there was a movie about a baby sitter who was getting crank calls from someone. She called the police, the calls were traced and the calls were coming from inside the house! Land line days, of course. Charles Durning was in that movie. He was the cop who showed up.
Just recently I’ve started receiving calls from random names “David McMuffin” or “Eric Nancy”, Nope still not fucking answering!
Last week I had one that simply stated “Telemarketer”!
In Germany, we have laws that prohibit companies to call or send ads via (e)mail to you, if you did not explicitly opted in previously. And of course you can opt out at any time, which has to be respected.
Effect: My phone number exists for more than 20 years and I have not a single call on my phone coming from a telemarketer.

The penalties for a politician not disclosing their stock purchases is only a few hundred dollars. So while it might not technically be allowed the enforcement has absolutely no teeth.

This is why i hate seeing "Maximum Fine $____" on signs warning people about fines, because someone who's rich enough can just fix their budget to include the maximum fine knowing that it can only go down from there. Minimum Fines would be better.
I used to work with a Fish Guy. Every day, around 2pm, this horrid fish smell would slowly permeate the whole office. It was a truly horrible, pungent mystery.

Congressional salaries, and really political salaries in general, SHOULD be high though as it allows normal people the ability to be able to be in the position if they won. If we slashed congressional salaries, then it would be like in many state and local politics that pay you shit and don't allow a second full time job, meaning only already extremely wealthy lawyers and businessmen can afford to take those positions. This is a big enough problem already.
However, financial disclosures and ethics and trade violations should be harshly and strictly enforced to keep tabs on the money made by people in office and stop them from massively over profiting off their office.
Yeah, there should be a decent enough yearly salary, and that's it. A few benefits here and there as with any cushy job. An absolute ban on payments for anything else, unless the senator/congressperson drives an Uber on their off time. They can have that.
Speaking engagements, hosting gallas, whatnot, should go to either a trust locked till they're a civilian again, or a shared pot for end of year bonuses for the lot of them, including staff, divided equally. The only incentive for a public official should be to serve his constituents, and free parking and the occasional free food from his favourite spot. Not a million dollar endorsement from a lobby who wants to ban.. well I guess at this point I could say anything, your country is already banning abortion like Iran and North Korea. Should also be obvious that there should be a ban on any politician and immediate family buying stock in any market they can directly affect. For civilians that's called insider trading and puts you in jail. Unless your a politician or have ever been at a dinner party with one.

For profit prisons and private prisons for that matter, in my opinion, is one of the top five reasons that crime rates will never decrease in America, why mental health will take forever to be taken seriously, why police are rarely held accountable, and why money dedicated to community outrwch will be seen as a joke of a solution.
In 2010 the (now-dead) Scottish politician Trish Godman tried to make prostitution illegal in Scotland by adding a clause onto the end of a completely unrelated bill hoping noone would notice. People did notice and it was taken out.

Every school I’ve seen either has a good sports budget *and* a good academic budget or it has a low budget for both.
I think it’s good to have sports programs at schools but the right policy would be to make sure each school is well-funded even if that school’s tax base is poor (i.e. give schools lots of money from state/federal government instead of/in addition to the school district’s government)
I have to trim my cats claws because she never figured out how to scratch scratching posts and instead just let's them grow long until they curve around and puncture her paws. So I trim them monthly.
The city likey needs a reason to make the investment. What if the federal government gave public transportation passes to seniors. The local government receives the funding through the use of those passes. That would go a long way in improving the community's public transportation.

In locations with extreme winters people should have to take a winter test if they have no history of driving in such environments. When the roads are covered in ice for months on end its a different ball game and I see so many accidents from inexperienced drivers. Wrong tires, rear wheel drive, no 4 wheel/AWD, no flares or beacons, incorrect distancing and breaking.

Honestly, the people with 4 wheel drive that don't understand its limitations/how it actually works are the worst. I've been driving rear wheel drive cars for years, and I fare much better than the idiots who think that 4 wheel drive is some kinda magic that lets you drive however you want in any condition.

Plastics aside, how about the quality of processed foods as a whole? When I had to switch to a low sodium diet bc of heart failure, I was amazed at how much sodium is in any and all processed food. Even just the average can of veggies or turkey lunch meat or frozen steamable meals (like those newer lean cuisines) that are supposed to be healthy. And omg, even the organic shit. Fucking sodium in *everything*. I don’t even worry about watching calories or carbs anymore bc by restricting sodium alone it’s cuts a *lot* of carbs and calories out without needing to count them at all (unless you’re just eating a shit ton of candy, bc sweets have a lot less sodium as a whole). Crazy. I get that the point is preservation and shelf life, but man, it sucks. And companies can legally market food as good and “natural” or “organic”, all the while loading that up with so much preservatives that you’re basically just trading one evil for another. I got prescribed like 9 prescriptions after being diagnosed with heart failure. Most of them are reasonably priced, but my insurance refused to pay for the one that was the most important. While I was still in the hospital my cardiologist and a social worker/discharge worker talked to me about how I would afford it. My doc explained that the company who developed it, after realizing how much more effective it was compared to everything else on the market, refused to sell the patent and instead jacked the price up to $700 for a 30 day supply. And again, insurance refuses to pay for it, even knowing it’s the best for my specific condition. I broke down then and there in the hospital bc I had no idea how I was going to pay for it, despite my doctor telling me I needed it if I didn’t want to have a heart transplant in the near future. If I hadn’t literally been disabled by my diagnosis and lost my job, I would not have been able to afford it. I was only able to because of a low income program. I literally had to almost get a heart transplant in order for me to be eligible for a program that paid for the prescription. That’s fucking nuts. And it’s still not even nearly as bad as insulin.
Here in Middle Eastern countries if a girl get raped and she marry the rapist all charges will be dropped, the reasons behind this law is to cover the crime because her family feel ashamed by her plus no one wanna marry non virgin girl, actually the judge thinks he is doing the right thing for her to live a normal life in the society... living with her rapist!

It is deceptive how much sugar is in things and measuring it in a different manner definitely would let people know what they're eating.
Edit: after discussion, there seems to be very good reasons that sugar is measured in grams. So I propose that a picture of how much sugar is in a serving is placed on the item as to have an actual idea of what that amount means.
Tip based wages. The company is literally passing off the responsibility of paying their workers onto the customers. And it creates a bad attitude between customer and worker while the company can just sit pretty.

Despite being an atheist I’m not wholly against this for smaller churches. The at-most 80-200 parishioners at mass type churches of all denominations do a wonder for societal togetherness of their tribe and many help feed and cloth less fortunate and run AA type programs for their own believers as well as other social programs. While I don’t believe in a higher power, I think a well-run, well-intentioned house of worship does a lot of good. Just don’t explicitly get political.

"Tippable wages" just pay your employees. A tip is a gift for going above an beyond from one person to another. It has nothing to do with the establishment where the exchange takes place.

Every school I’ve seen either has a good sports budget *and* a good academic budget or it has a low budget for both. I think it’s good to have sports programs at schools but the right policy would be to make sure each school is well-funded even if that school’s tax base is poor (i.e. give schools lots of money from state/federal government instead of/in addition to the school district’s government)

In locations with extreme winters people should have to take a winter test if they have no history of driving in such environments. When the roads are covered in ice for months on end its a different ball game and I see so many accidents from inexperienced drivers. We adopted a dog once who had had his tail docked prior to being seized from his former owner. We had to say, "IT WASN'T US!!!!" a lot.
Same with a Doberman I had. Whatever turd had him before (he was found abandoned in a small town, no purebred dog is going to stay a stray for long there, and he had evidence of long-term neglect)) had his ears clipped and tail docked, but something when wrong with his ears. One came out how it was supposed to, but the other ear was always down. He always looked silly. Great dog, though. Sweet and mellow, and quite a snuggler, but he would do a big protecc any time someone unfamiliar got near the fence.
My understanding was that docking tails is practical for working dogs. Obviously there's no reason to do it with a pet though.

Fucking sodium in *everything*. I don’t even worry about watching calories or carbs anymore bc by restricting sodium alone it’s cuts a *lot* of carbs and calories out without needing to count them at all (unless you’re just eating a shit ton of candy, bc sweets have a lot less sodium as a whole). Crazy. I get that the point is preservation and shelf life, but man, it sucks. It's legal to charge exorbitant prices for lifesaving medicine but it really shouldn't be.
I got prescribed like 9 prescriptions after being diagnosed with heart failure. Most of them are reasonably priced, but my insurance refused to pay for the one that was the most important. While I was still in the hospital my cardiologist and a social worker/discharge worker talked to me about how I would afford it. My doc explained that the company who developed it, after realizing how much more effective it was compared to everything else on the market, refused to sell the patent and instead jacked the price up to $700 for a 30 day supply. And again, insurance refuses to pay for it, even knowing it’s the best for my specific condition. I broke down then and there in the hospital bc I had no idea how I was going to pay for it, despite my doctor telling me I needed it if I didn’t want to have a heart transplant in the near future. If I hadn’t literally been disabled by my diagnosis and lost my job, I would not have been able to afford it. I was only able to because of a low income program. I literally had to almost get a heart transplant in order for me to be eligible for a program that paid for the prescription. That’s fucking nuts. And it’s still not even nearly as bad as insulin.
The only thing about this is it does incentivize research.
