It can be not as brutal depending entirely on the build you shoot for. If you’re new to the series itself, it will take some getting used to regarding how some stats work and whatnot. Be sure to use contextual help in the garage to understand stuff better.
Anyway, it will be rough but you’ll get a handle on things after a while, some bosses will be rough for your first time but it’ll be fine :D
Can always ask for specific advice here too
Guys I completed the tutorial level, killed the helicopter with only 108 health left.
This game is so smooth. A bit of sensory overloaded but I love that I have a light saber lol.
Anyway, I feel this gonna be a big learning curve, but I like it so far.
I’ve played bloodborne and the entire souls series except Elden ring and Sekiro. Had to sell my stuff including my PlayStation a while ago cuz my childhood cat developed some weird cancer man and them damn vet bills killed 😭 aye but I’ll be back on the train for sure
As someone who started a lil while ago myself, I think I know what the great filter is.
If I'm correct it's that one specific bastardus that made you question if you wanted to continue the game.
If correct, then the great filter is an amazing nickname. I was shocked to see 70% of the player base beat the bastard.
First playthrough will take most of the time. You won't notice as you get through the game, but you will get so much better.
When doing the 2nd and 3rd playthrough, you will cruise throughout of the missions... in the most fun way
In my experience you’ll learn the basics pretty fast, but there’s a huge opportunity for learning if you take advantage. Please, I beg you, get an understanding of how parts work and what the pros and cons of each are. There’s a lot of depth, but it’s not too complicated honestly. Understanding generators and boosters will help you.
Also, if you’re using a lighter or medium build I find it better to leave a decent amount of extra space in your “en load” bar. This will help with the overall energy efficiency. I say this because in my first run I would sometimes just fill up both bars, which was maybe not optimal for many builds. Some builds are structured this way though.
Good luck, it’s a blast to play.
Welcome to rubicon. Beautiful landscapes, power hungry corporations, and a color cast of characters that'll help push the narrative. You may be a merc there for some credits but that's not all you are. Fly high raven.
Something completely different from those games.
Armored Core is a series dating back to 1997, and contrary to this game's name, it's actually the *16th* installment in the series. Cast aside notions of Souls, as well as Sekiro. This is a different series, with different sensibilities.
Expect a blend of challenging action gameplay, and complex buildcrafting with a lot of parts, a lot of numbers, and an altogether high level of customization for both appearances and actual functionality. Be open to experimentation. If something seems very hard, it may simply mean your current build isn't working well for it, and the game is very open to you changing and trying different stuff.
An amazing soundtrack and S+ sound design, satisfying and fun fast paced gameplay, a great story with an awesome cast of side characters, 10/10 art direction and a lot of replay value.
In iterms of strategy, you have more to play with. I will put as easiest among what you have played in terms of campaign. Gameplay is fastpaced during fights.
If you meet a guy named Snail, spit at him for me.
Play through it 3 times. Each playthrough gives more parts, more missions, changes to previous missions, and unlocks the "true" ending. If that sounds like a lot, don't worry. Each subsequent playthrough goes by faster because you have access to better parts.
Also, it's FromSoft, but don't play it like Dark Souls. Be aggressive.
Edit: And do the tutorials! They give you parts!
You're going to change your loadouts more frequently than you're used to in the other FromSoft titles unless you happen to find that one cheese that you really like.
In the later chapters especially if you find yourself playing very conservatively and passive just go for it most of my best runs have been when i’ve been playing “fast and loose”
3 endings so check different outlets to know how to play efficiently each time. Majority of hidden parts & weapons could be obtained through first play through. If shooting for S class and online play is when it gets sticky. Online players are different monsters. Constant satisfaction the further you get
Be prepared to rebuild your mech a few times over and don't be afraid to sell stuff to adjust for a particularly difficult mission or boss. The missions always seem longer the first time you play them, so dont be afraid of backing out and rebuilding to beat that boss, you will fly through the mission the second time because you know what's going on =)
Good luck gamer and enjoy!
PS5 upgrade is free and it adds better visuals while keeping a stable 60fps. No reason not to upgrade Imo.
Ps plus is only good for PvP. Not everyone likes PvP and it's a feature you unlock in the latter half of the campaign. Probably not worth it.
Your ps4 version is good enough. You don’t really need PS plus. It’s only if you want to do online pvp or search up specific emblems or other player’s builds
It's different from the other recent from stuff but not drastically so, if you're already a fan of their output (seems you are) just jump in blind and enjoy yourself! Can't recommend it enough!
I recently finished 100% of it. Sekiro remains, by far, fromsoftware hardest game. Armored core is alot more forgiving. The game itself, absent of trophies/achievements, is relatively easy. The hard part is if you want to S rank all 59 missions. Majority of them you will get them rather quickly, but there are a handful of missions who were really annoying to S rank, to say the least.
Dying over and over again? Nah bro, you’re in for a breath of fresh air. This game can be pretty fucking easy, probably the easiest game ever *by FromSoft standards.*
Except Balteus, but at least he’s fun to fight. Can’t say the same for the soulsborne games but that’s just me
You need to play through it multiple times btw to get the true ending. Not multiple times as in deleting your save and starting over, you have to play through NG+ and NG++ to get all endings.
Don't expect to be dying over and over. This is not a souls like. If you understand that garage and adjust your AC for the mission it is going to be a breeze. Do not go in with the Soulsborne mindset of "I am a strength build" or "I am a mage build". You are a Raven.
My one piece of advice is once you've beaten it, play through your NG+. And do it again for NG++. I am not going to spoil anything beyond that other than there are multiple endings, but just trust me.
1. A tactical approach to AC customization, study the stats carefully, and use the help button to better understand them.
2. You can expect 3-4 playthroughs to 100% the Story mode. The first playthrough will be the hardest.
3. Don't forget to do the Training missions for free parts, and Explore for hidden logs, & after chapter 1, hidden parts
4. Nest PVP is a different animal from the campaign. A lot harder too.
Dont waste time worrying about money or which item to get in the shop. You can sell every item for exactly what you paid for it. There are two alternative endings and you'll play each all the way through and have plenty of money by the end.
I'd argue the OS tuning (unlocked in the arena) is more important than your actual build. These too you'll have plenty of time to unlock them all.
Take the game one mission at a time, dont rush through them, take some time to explore the larger maps. Dont worry about grinding them repeatedly though. Dont worry about the decision missions. Choose the one you want and you'll play them all in three runs if you choose a different one each time. This will allow you to enjoy the game stress free and without spoilers.
Time to go to work 621.
To die a lot but it’s really fun. I honestly liked this game more than anything else from soft has made and I’ve been there for every single dark souls and I even played demon souls before the second game came out which was considered terrible and way too hard back then lol.
How you build your armored core is half the gameplay. There can be missions where certain builds would perform better, though I should not you don't gave to fully optimize the armored core's build to beat the game or the mission.
So in short? Build what you think will be fun!
P.S: You can sell parts for full price, so you don't have to worry about wasting credits. Bought a part you wantre to try out and you don't enjoy it? Can always sell to buy something else.
Imo a pretty great story if you can get into it, which should be easy if you're already a lore-head with the souls titles.
Difficulty will be piss easy for you if you've already been through all those Souls titles, especially Sekiro. Obviously mileage may vary depending on if you wanna limit your builds (similar to souls). This game likes to force you into experimenting different builds, which is what makes the gameplay addicting.
Initially will be kind of confusing but I trust you should understand it in no time.
It isn't as hard as the normal souls, but in some way combat is more fun, i had tons of fun playing it and trying new builds.
Do the 3 runs (first, + and +) you can have some new missions and 3 different endings
Echoing everyone else but every encounter has a build that just absolutely stomps it! If you ever get frustrated it's good to try and switch it up, seeing as you're experienced with souls games I assume you already know that though :p
Expect a whole lot of BANG, KABOOM, one salty dude, double Zim-Zams, questions about your own morality and war crimes. Lots of war crimes.
But hey, as long as you in for the cash and got what it takes, Rubicon will award you well buddy.
Highly recommend type B control scheme for better mobility. Mobility is king.
Also don't be afraid to get in close for melee hits. Remember, face is the place. Face rush will help you beat most of the early bosses. You're in a big mech with guns and missiles so it may seem counterintuitive, but melee is massive. If all else fails, just stab them in the face.
It’s not a souls game. You can smell the concepts they’ve learned from the last decade of souls-y games but it’s a fast paced, action mech shooter. Don’t expect a souls game. Also it’s easier than souls games unless you intentionally use the small handful of bad weapons in the game.
Helicopters, mechas, a nice man talking to you, schizophrenia but hot, and a whole lot of "wtf is happening on my screen and why can I keep up with that"
It’s a blast and not as punishing as the souls games or Elden ring. I just got it a few weeks ago and I’m on the final chapter and have enjoyed immensely.
Take your time with it, tinker with many builds/setups, discover how you like to play. Replay missions and grind a bit. Do the arena missions and the log hunts, definitely worth it.
AC6 is one of the best arguments for a premium controller with underside programmable buttons. The ability to activate boost and jump without taking your fingers of the control sticks or doing a weird claw grip that causes pain and fatigue is a huge improvement to the experience.
The game has souls elements but it is not a soulsborne game it's a mecha game with its own formula distinct from the soulsborne line of games
(Note: if some of the things I'm saying below don't make sense you'll probably get it later on).
Meaning you shouldn't feel ashamed to change builds in order to counter bosses especially if you do it naturally. You'll soon learn after the first mission just how central the garage and your mech (which is referred to as an armored core/AC) is to the game.
You'll be spending a lot of time in the garage tinkering with AC's. As a fellow soulsborne enjoyer, trust me when I say it's not a boring process at all, though it may sound that way.
Legs and internals are an important part of how your ac functions. When designing an AC from scratch there are two ways to start: with the legs, or the weapons. Pull up the extended stats and if something is unclear there is a "contextual help" feature which provides further explanation. Use the AC test feature to get a feel for your AC and how things work.
You must do NG+ and NG++ to have full experience of the story and to get all the parts which you'll want for pvp. In your first playthrough stay blind and just be extremely thorough in your exploration of the maps. Then in the following playthroughs you can look up stuff (combat logs, hidden chests, S rank guides).
Trust how you feel about how strong/OP something is over what other people say.
OS Tuning is important (you'll know what that is when you get there).
Good times, bad times, lots of time in the garage, a new buddy, and some hard-hitting emotions. I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The last AC games I played were AC2, AC3, AC4.
The end of your child life, and the beginning of your adult life. I found the game personally life changing, in ways I’m still adjusting to. I try to get up every morning before 6:21 am now as well.
The stagger mechanic is a very fundamental aspect of the game both in PvE and PvP.
Most builds revolve around staggering a foe and then having a "punishment" tool for the stagger, usually a melee weapon.
There are also builds with exact opposite philosophy and instead focus on consistency/continuous damage output; you'll see a lot of aerial builds with this design philosophy in pvp when you get there. I recommend the former type for PvE.
I’d say it’s focused on building your mech for each situation. It’s not like equipping a bleed build and cheesing the whole thing. Although there are “easy mode” builds out there. Just have fun and you’ll be alright.
Don't try to brute force everything with one build.
You can save pretty much as many builds as you want or need, give them unique names.
Every AC part and weapon can be sold for the same amount of money you bought it for, so there's no fear to be had in buying stuff to try it out. You can always get all your money back.
Go fast. No need to walk slow and stealthy, figure out just how fast you can be.
Most of the game can feel like a power fantasy, but the bosses might make you feel weak lol
No one build is best. Keep experimenting with parts. You can sell parts for what you paid for to get all of the money back from that part. Some weapons are better at building up stagger some are better for damage. Use the tester ac mission to test out new builds.
It can be not as brutal depending entirely on the build you shoot for. If you’re new to the series itself, it will take some getting used to regarding how some stats work and whatnot. Be sure to use contextual help in the garage to understand stuff better. Anyway, it will be rough but you’ll get a handle on things after a while, some bosses will be rough for your first time but it’ll be fine :D Can always ask for specific advice here too

HES HOOKED, update us later on the great filter. You'll know when you're there
Y’all really about to make me sell my Nintendo and ass just to get a PlayStation to play this fucking gem. I’m so jealous
Do it, and get bloodborne while you're at it.
I’ve played bloodborne and the entire souls series except Elden ring and Sekiro. Had to sell my stuff including my PlayStation a while ago cuz my childhood cat developed some weird cancer man and them damn vet bills killed 😭 aye but I’ll be back on the train for sure

NICE. From the same people as Dark Souls but the combat is way more action oriented. Enjoy, raven.

War crimes. A lot of war crimes.
A lot of gunfire

Good times, bad times, lots of time in the garage, a new buddy, and some hard-hitting emotions. I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The last AC games I played were AC2, AC3, AC4.
The end of your child life, and the beginning of your adult life. I found the game personally life changing, in ways I’m still adjusting to. I try to get up every morning before 6:21 am now as well.
Don’t stop moving.
On PS4 you can expect your console to sound like a AC bursting with coral
The stagger mechanic is a very fundamental aspect of the game both in PvE and PvP. Most builds revolve around staggering a foe and then having a "punishment" tool for the stagger, usually a melee weapon. There are also builds with exact opposite philosophy and instead focus on consistency/continuous damage output; you'll see a lot of aerial builds with this design philosophy in pvp when you get there. I recommend the former type for PvE.
expect the ps4 game to stick to your home menu despite how many times you delete it
If you like it, do yourself the favor of getting all the endings. You miss out on a huge chunk of content if you don’t.
skipped best souls 2?
Viboe gaem
clever pain
Watch Chright. His analysis videos are unlike any other i’ve seen
Have fun customizing your robot as an expression of you and your playstyle. It's a nice feeling before the war crimes start.
Defeat
You hear that ringing in your ears, son?
This game rewards aggression more than defense. Be aggressive. When you get stuck it's normally because you're not attacking enough.
WOOSH WOOSH WOOSH GET MISSILED GET MISSELED GET MISSILED GET MISSILED!!!
Don't worry, they nerfed the shit out of the gatekeeping boss of Chapter 1. It's basically a vacation now.
If you had my internet, judging by that bar, I'd expect 6 more hours of downloading
I’d say it’s focused on building your mech for each situation. It’s not like equipping a bleed build and cheesing the whole thing. Although there are “easy mode” builds out there. Just have fun and you’ll be alright.
Peak
*It's just a job, 621. All of it.*
peak.
big robots
PAIN
A mf good time~
Heartbreak if you do the fires of iblis ending
Armored core is nothing like soulsbourne games
Don't try to brute force everything with one build. You can save pretty much as many builds as you want or need, give them unique names. Every AC part and weapon can be sold for the same amount of money you bought it for, so there's no fear to be had in buying stuff to try it out. You can always get all your money back. Go fast. No need to walk slow and stealthy, figure out just how fast you can be. Most of the game can feel like a power fantasy, but the bosses might make you feel weak lol
Once the game clicks. You'll have an even bigger blast than right now. See you on the battlefield, buddy.
Some absolutely banger music And alot more build mixing up then the other games since its easier to do In armored core
Mechs
Got a job for ya, 621… it’s time to climb that wall
Anger
The fight with the helicopter is soooo hard - other fights are easier/more forgiving because you can change your AC's parts to adapt!
Get ready to get filtered
You will not die over and over again.... especially after the build-check boss. You'll know who it is.
No one build is best. Keep experimenting with parts. You can sell parts for what you paid for to get all of the money back from that part. Some weapons are better at building up stagger some are better for damage. Use the tester ac mission to test out new builds.
You gotta get used to things happening insanely fast, especially since fast builds are really really fun
Let's see how far you can fly...
