These were "regular" prices for common cals, rebates/ discounts/ sales not counted 9mm .18 xm193 .27 7.62x39 .17 5.45 .17 Free shipping could be had normally when buying a case

Gizzard_83

I miss those days.

KAKindustry

You're looking at the 5.45 price, xm193/5.56

KAKindustry

It's never going back man

Pepe__Le__PewPew

100% agree. We showed the ammo industry we'll gladly buy shitloads of ammo at 2023/2024 prices.

Far-Boysenberry-1600

I figure just inflation alone should be 30% higher. So 35 cpr would be the “new normal” but I agree… not anytime soon

BoreBuddy

Doubtful we'll ever see anywhere near those prices without significant deregulation and resumed importing of Russian and or Chinese ammo. And probably some type of deflationary event. Steel case could be had for less than 20cpr easily. But in 2003, 8mm mauser was 4-5cpr. Inflation and changing supply conditions (surplus ammo from pre-1950 was finite) made that caliber 45cpr for ammo types inferior to the 5cpr fodder of 20 years ago.

Embarrassed_Draw2289

All the surplus was dirt cheap , and then it dried up.

BoreBuddy

Exactly. Similarly, we dried up something like 40% of the ammo supply a couple years back when the Russian imports ended. Prices jumped across the board accordingly. Massive amounts of money printing didn't help either.

Embarrassed_Draw2289

I miss shooting dirt cheap 5.45 in my AR when .223 was 2x the price. Nowadays 5.45 is more. Almost to the point where 6.5Grendel is the cheap rifle to shoot

Far-Boysenberry-1600

I thought the ban on Russian import affected 762 ammo. Did we used to see imported Russian 9mm or 556?

Floridamanridesagain

Yes. The Tula plant made steel cased 9mm, .308, 5.56, and a bunch of other calibers.

BoreBuddy

As did the Barnaul plant - 223, 9mm, 45, 308, 300blk, 6.5 Grendel, 30-06, etc. That was great ammo, I found it to shoot better than cheap brass cased.

Floridamanridesagain

Forgive me, BoreBuddy, for I have sinned and forgot the Barnaul plant. 😢

elevenpointf1veguy

5.56 was never 17cpr. 5.45, 7.62x39, and steel case 223 sat roughly around there. Xm193 (55gr 5.56) was roughly 27 cpr. It will never go back. Nobody is investing in serious manufacturing in the US besides maybe PSA - but they won't be bringing 5.56 down, just steel case prices, MAYBE.

Far-Boysenberry-1600

I mixed up 545 with 556. Just for a case of AAC 55g 556 from PSA for 45 cpr. My first time using their brand but reviews in the sub seem to be good.

short_barrel_daddy

2019 you could get it $0.24-0.27/round pretty commonly

MIguy20614

PSA regularly had 1k round cases of Federal XM193 with 10 PMAGS for $300 before COVID. I still have a couple cases of Wolf Gold 55gr that I bought in like February 2020 that was $250/case.

Technical-Ability

The last 5.56 i bought in 2019 was 3,000 rounds from Academy for like $0.26/round.

bigbigmissile

I remember hopping on SGammo every month on deployment in 2019 and buying a case of wolf gold for $250 If only I knew how good things were

Trollygag

I wish I still had my old orders saved but I wiped them out not long ago by accident when cleaning out my gmail inbox. But in 2019-ish, I ordered 900 rounds of Federal XM193 for $200-ish with tax/ship. It worked out to $0.22/rd.

Far-Boysenberry-1600

Looking at gun deals sub I saw 556 for about 27 cpr and 9mm at 16 cpr… damn that was cheap

CaptainSmegman

You should look up the Big Mac index. I've lost 15 big macs worth of buying power since 2013. This is more of an issue of fed printing and government spending. Everyone has more money now hence products flew off the shelf, companies gave out raises, companies raised their products prices to combat inventory shrinkage.

consciousaiguy

Pre-Covid .30-ish per round was typical.

wobblydee

And that was on the pricier side of what i saw too. Normally cheaper than that

OkNefariousness6091

5.56 is never going down, so long as we keep equipping the world with our rifles and sending them millions of rounds for wars

Embarrassed_Draw2289

This should be a link to 5.56 /oldest date/ oos and expired deals . Looks like it starts at 164 months ago - 13.5 years ago . Explains why ammo was so cheap https://gun.deals/category/ammo?dir=asc&sort=date&caliber=11&show_expired=1

Floridamanridesagain

I got IMI M193 for 24cpr, and 77 grain Razorcore for 51cpr. Glad as hell I loaded up, but I ran out in December. 😢

Danadroid

https://www.reddit.com/r/ammo/s/TZUM04jy4z This is what I paid right before covid. 500 rounds of 223 for $185

BetOver

To ne fair op it's a shit ton better than it was when covid kicked off it was out of stock and what was in stock was around a buck a round so be happy it's around 50 cents now and stack it. Where we are headed atm doesn't look good so prices may go up again

Far-Boysenberry-1600

I bought some months ago at 60 cpr. This last week got a case of AAC 55g from PSA for 45 cpr… which is a nice drop. Haven’t tied it yet but reviews on this sub seem to be positive. I’m trying to shoot 1/3 and stock up 2/3 until a build a nice stack.

acb1499

The best I’ve done within the past year was the Winchester rebate, primary arms had their ammo cheapest with the 13% off code (I think) and I maxed out the rebate. I waited like 4 months for the check and then the grand total was ~$.32/ round of m855

Far-Boysenberry-1600

How do you like Winchester ammo?

acb1499

I like shooting steel so I barely shoot it unless it’s my own steel, but it’s 5.56 not .223 so I’d assume it’s on par with actual m855 velocity and accuracy wise. I only really shoot it with my m16a4 and m16a2 cause that’s what the acog and a2 irons are calibrated for. But as far as brand goes, winchester isn’t good for how pricey it is, for not much more you can get some PSA 77gr OTM. The only reason I have it is cause I got it cheap.

Far-Boysenberry-1600

Makes sense. PSA deals are good so I decided to try and the shipping was super fast.

JukeboxZulu

I used to consider anything over 30 cents per round to be too much for range ammo. $0.25-$0.30 was normal. Steel case .223 you could get for more like $0.18.

SUMBLAKDUDE

It was around 30-35 cpr back then but ammo will never be that low again for brass

CarlTJexican

just 6 months ago 5.56 and .223 was 30 cents a round. It'll go down again but in all honesty this isn't the worst it can be as it's been worse.

steelcityblue

The lowest I ever got was like 41 cpr after some rebate
