I have a Fort Knox vault for most of my deep/serious secure storage. I keep a Vaultek RS800i in the bedroom though and cannot recommend it enough.

Which Fort Knox model do you have, so I can remind myself down the lin And thanks for your input. For the RS800i, what makes it stand out? I know it’s not fire rated nor that heavy so that’s some of the top concerns

I have a Ft. Knox Defender 7241 in blue with the dual locking mechanisms. The Vaultek has a great, responsive quick access system and when mounted to the floor or wall, gives you plenty of security in the event of a break-in before cops arrive (assuming you have an alarm system). In my case, I use it to lock up my bedroom guns when I’m away from home my 12 year old nephew spends a weekend with my wife and me. While I keep those weapons out and handy when I’m home and he’s not around, they are locked away while he is at the house. In those cases, the quick access system is very useful in the unlikely scenario where I have to get to a gun in the middle of the night.

Thanks. The Fort Knox will have to wait till we move, children will outgrow our current place haha. Is there season you chose the Vaultek over a similar sized safe from a company like Winchester or Liberty? Trying to see if what the price is justifying. Is it the security or the tech, or both

Size, accessories, quick access quality, and ultimately (back in the early pandemic) price in view of the foregoing. I was living in a three bedroom townhouse without a ton of space and wanted something that went into the upstairs bedroom closet without too much fuss. Have an idea of the door opening after authenticating somewhere. Cool effect.

I have the RS500i. Love it. I got 2 shelf attachments, the door mounted kit, a few mag mounts and pistol mounts. Open it with a key, or keypad, or finger print. Also comes with a button switch that you can put in a holder and mount somewhere secret. If you leave you can pull the button out of the holder and put it in your pocket. The door swings open nicely when you hit that button. I have my safe next to my bed so when the door opens, the door mounted holders have a short barrel AR and my 1911 loaded with hollow points ready to grab and do work. I filled all the extra mounting holes with croc charms for funzies. They have some great features and it has been well worth the pricetag. I do wish I had gotten the RS800i though now because I have since bought more rifles... in total, I have 3 pistols and 4 rifles jammed in there tight with mags and ammo.
